Zero k file calculation

I recently installed a new hard drive and in doing so decided to upgrade to Tiger. One quirky thing I've noticed is that when I create new files, whether they're PDF's, InDesign, Quark, etc., the file size in the finder window shows "Zero k". I have to close the window and reopen in order for it to show the correct file size... has anybody else encountered this? I've tried Repair Disk Permissions but that hasn't helped. Thanks for any thoughts!

Some, i.e. those set in Finder Preferences, but nothing critical. Specifically:
• The Finder > Go > Recent folders menu will be cleared.
• Specific search locations for Find.
• Favorite search criteria for Find.
• The panels opened in Get Info windows.
• Finder Toolbar items.
• Items you have added to the Sidebar.
• View Options for your desktop and Computer (Finder > Command-Shift-C).
Note that some of the information above is from the "Finder" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X, Tiger Edition.
Good luck!

  • Zero byte files not transferred with FTP Adapter

    All,
I am seeing that zero byte files are not being transferred using FTP Adapter (SFTP type). Is there a known bug around this? Please respond if anybody have seen this behavior and resolved this issue. I am using 10.1.3.3.0
    Thanks,
    Dipal

    Thanks Marc,
I still have doubt if that is the case. When I tested the same from 10.1.3.3.1 windows platform and FTP being windows OS zero bytes files transferred OK. Do you think this is to do with OS or SOA version?
    Thanks,
    Dipal

  • Copy doesn't work and creates zero bytes files that I can't delete.

After installing Yosemite (I am now using version 10.10.1) I had problems copying files.
Sometimes (not always) it doesn't copy files from a folder to another using the simple cmd-c cmd-v procedure. Even if both folders are on the desktop. It creates many empty files (white icons, zero bytes) named as my files, but the copy isn't happening.
The main problem is that I cannot delete the files anyhow. If they are in a folder I can delete the whole folder and empty the trash.
It doesn't happen everytime, but yesterday I had the same problem copying a few videos to the desktop and I can't get rid of them (because I obviously can't delete the desktop folder...).
Can anybody help me? I need to be able to delete those zero bytes files that are now on my desktop.
I tried to drag them into a folder but it wouldn't let me. As well, I tried to copy the same files to the desktop to see if they disappeared, but the new files copied were renamed with 2 (ex. I had the zero byte file called IMG_0705.MOV on my desktop. I tried to paste the same file and it appeared named as IMG_0705 2.MOV).
I don't know what to do...
    Thanks

Take it to an Apple store or AASP. How much it will cost will depend on their determination of the problems. To bad you didn't purchase extended AppleCare. No you don't get your money back for purchasing Lion.

  • Folder Action + Move Finder Items = Zero KB files

I've got a folder action set that is supposed to run the Automator Action "Move Finder Items" on any file that gets placed in a specific folder (called "Folder A") and move it to "Folder B". I'm having an issue with larger files though.
As soon as I begin to transfer the file to "folder A" , the folder action runs and results in a "Zero KB" file in "Folder B".
Is there any way to keep the Folder Action from triggering until the file has completely copied to the folder with the Folder Action attached ("Folder A")?
A side note: I have this same folder action running on an iMac with Mac OS 10.6.3 and it works great . (This one was made with the newer version of Automator that shipped with 10.6 vs. Automator on 10.5 which made the action I am having trouble with)
    Any input would be appreciated!

There is a check in *Snow Leopard* to see if the items have completed their copy/download, but Leopard does not do any checking - the script is triggered immediately. You can add your own delay with a *Run AppleScript* action, though, for example:

  • Zero sized files and client download errors..

Frequently I see zero sized files being downloaded into the patch proxy spool area.
Sometimes it is the detectors file. Other times it is a whole heap of all_signed<patchid>.jar files. This basically breaks all future downloads of these patches to the clients.
If I go into the spool directory and delete the offending zero length files and re-issue the download command it works.
Also, on especially large patch files, the client will report errors during the download. The patch proxy is still downloading the patch in the background but the client times out waiting for it to come down.
I will paste logs etc when I see it again.

  • Zero Byte Files

When I ran a smart folder consisting of all files with Zero bytes, I got a dozens of them (including a lot in the preference folder).  Is this normal?  Should I be trashing any of these or do they serve some purpose?  I have a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.4.

This turned out to be a user error. However, I realized this after fixing the error by deleting the follwoing files:
Check if the issue exists with another user? Continue if the issue is not reproducible.
Delete all the preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/*.*
This fixed the issue. However, while deleting the plist files, I realized that the issue was as a result of bad task I created in Automator. The process was replicating the zero byte files. The issue could've been resolved had I traced my steps back to the time when I first saw the problem. Could've save me some time in customizing my desktop from scratch.

  • Desktop full of zero KB files

What's the name of those zero KB files? Can you delete them if you reboot?

  • ITunes Zero KB files

    Hi all,
On a regular basis (every few weeks or so), I discover some mp3 files that were always fine before, but suddenly have the tag "Stream" in the column "Size" in iTunes. When I go to the actual file in Finder, the size of the file is "Zero KB". Which of course means that these files can't be played by iTunes anymore. Fortunately I regularly make copies, so I always have been able to restore them.
A few weeks ago this happened to 40 or so CD's. You can imagine I wasn't amused. I restored all damaged files and double checked that all files were fine before making an extra backup of all my music (physical copy). The last few weeks, all seemed fine. I checked almost every day with a saved Spotlight search if there were any Zero KB mp3 files, and the issue seemed solved, — there never was any.
Until today. This morning I discovered that again 4 files had "Stream" as size in iTunes, and the files were indeed 0 KB. When I went into my Time Machine backup, travelling 2 weeks back, I discovered... that the same 4 files also were empty there! Although I'm sure everything seemed fine in iTunes at the time of the backup and also in the days that followed. Even yesterday, when adding some CD's to the iTunes library, there weren't any Zero KB files reported.
This really starts to be very, very annoying. I don't trust iTunes anymore. I've got a 100+ GB library of music in iTunes, which obviously can disappear at random at any moment. Because even after looking at all the logs in the Console, I can't figure out what's happening. There simply is no record of this behaviour.
I contacted Apple Support, but they didn't have a clue. Therefore, you are my last resort. What can be going on here?
And is it possible that files, once backupped by Time Machine, get corrupted afterwards when the source file gets screwed up at a later point in time? (I know it shouldn't be the case, but I observed it myself.)
Of course, the iTunes issue is the bigger one, and I really want to get this solved. I don't want to use another media program, and I don't think it should be necessary.
    Any insights?
    Thanks in advance,
    Henk.

I can tell this has you all puzzled as well, considering the huge amount of responses...
    Let's make things even worse.
A thing I forgot to mention (and which makes it even more mysterious): this only happens to CD's that belong to artists whose names begin with a "B", "C" or "D". But then not necessarily for all CD's of that particular artist; and not all artists whose name begin with "B", "C" or "D" have one or more CD's/songs "emptied".
For instance: I have 9 CD's of Bruce Dickinson in my iTunes Library. 5 of them were gone, the rest was still there.
Yesterday 4 songs of a Black Sabbath CD were gone ("Stream", "Zero KB")... but the other 6 songs of the same album were there!
Some CD's of Celtic Frost were deleted, some CD's of Crimson Glory also... but the CD of Chickenfoot was untouched.
Well, as said: an addition to make things worse. But maybe this triggers someone to a hint in the right direction of this issue.

  • Zero size files in Sender File Adapter

    Hello!
I have the problem with my Sender File Adapter (ftp).
Sometimes in ftp directory there are empty files or messages with a zero-sized payload.
This situation cause an error and Adapter "sleep" until I save-active it in a configuration. (before I removed the 0-size file...).
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks
    Alessandro

    Hi ,
What the note states is that if your Sender File adapter picks up and empty file, then it would not trigger any message at all.
So, if what that note says is correct, then I guess for the empty file, the adapter would not ve passed any message to the integration engine.
Is there any entry in SXMB_MONI? If yes, then it means some message is actaully being passed by the adapter engine to the integration engine which shouldnt have happened at all.
What does the error message in the File Adapter state?

    Bhavesh

  • Visual Studio Projects Not Showing FileVesion Leading Zeroes in File Properties

I created a simple Visual Studio 2013 windows form application setting the AssemblyInfo.cs file as show below.
// You can specify all the values or you can default the Build and Revision Numbers
// by using the '*' as shown below:
    // [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.*")]
    [assembly: AssemblyVersion("1.0.0.0227")]
    [assembly: AssemblyFileVersion("1.0.0.0227")]
    [assembly: AssemblyInformationalVersion("0.0.0.0227")]
I built the application and went to the Windows File Explorer and brought up the file properties. What I see is that the product version showing the leading zeros, but the file version field does not show the leading zeros.
It appears to be a bug either with Visual Studio or with Windows. Which one is it and is there a fix?

    Hi Sarah,
We can't see the screenshot. Do you mean you use Windows Explorer to browse to the AssemblyInfo.cs file and check the property?
If you change the product version or the file version from the AssemblyInfo.cs file, you need to firstly rebuild the assembly, then if you go to the debug/release folder, check the property of the assembly file, the Details tab will show you the corresponding
changes of these properties. It's the assembly property but not the cs file property.

  • Funny Zero-Kb files on Desktop that won't go anywhere!

It's like this: my brother came with a CD full of holiday photos which he wanted to show us. Only some of them he preferred not to show us (...)
To accomodate him, I set up a new standard account on my Powerbook, fired up iPhoto 6, put the CD in the Superdrive, and showed him how to import all the photos (without making copies on the hard disk, that is), then to filter out the ones he wanted to omit and allow everything else to be included in the Slideshow.
Just to embarrass me and show me how things can go wrong on the Mac, he thought that deleting photos from iPhoto meant selecting them and dragging them out of the main iPhoto window and into the trash in the Dock By mistake he selected all 280 photos and dragged them onto the Desktop (obviously missing the Trash icon in the Dock) at which point the Mac seemed to freeze. The desktop filled with the 280 photo files (or references to them, I'm not sure, each of them being 'Zero Kb' in Get Info), piled icon upon icon on the same space on the screen, so much so that the cute shadow around the Preview icon for each of the 280 files becoming so black, it looked ridiculous.
Anyway, when it came to tidying up the mess, the files on the Desktop refused to be Trashed or moved into another location within the same account. I got messages like
"The item "DSC04166.JPG" contains one or more busy items that cannot be changed. [OK]"
when trying either trashing or moving them.
When I tried to double click on any of the 280 photo files, I got the message
"Item "DSC04166.JPG" is used by Mac OS X and cannot be opened. [OK]"
In the end I just logged into my own account's Terminal, issued a sudo -s, then used rm to trash the things. Weird.
Anyone knows what went wrong? Many thanks, as always.

  • Variable substitution: (delete leading zeros from file name)

    Hi All,
I am configuring an IDOC to FILE (fcc scenario) with a requirement of using the IDOC number in the output file name.
Using variable substitution, I manged to get the IDOC number from incoming Idoc-control record but it comes in its entitre length with a few leading zeroes like '00000001234'.
So my output file name looks like 'Output_000000001234.txt'  . I want it to be like 'Output_1234.txt'.
Is it possible to achieve it ?
    Thanks
    Shirin

    Hi Shirin,
First supress the leading zeros of IDOC number by using the following code:
Create a user defined funciton zerosuppress and take the cache as value and take one argument input. Then put the code below:
    //write your code here
    String output = input.replaceFirst("^0+","");
    return output;
Then use variable substitution for generating ur IDOC number in the out put file name.
    Regards,
    Vinod.

  • IPhoto '08 created 26,000 zero KB files on my desktop. help me delete them

i have a 26,000 picture iphoto '08 library. when i had all pictures selected, a lagging finder response led to me accidentally dragging those files to the desktop. realizing my error, i force quit everything. i ended up with literally 26,000 zero KB "hidden" jpeg files on my desktop. this makes my finder extremely slow and virtually useless.
i tried deleting these zero kb gremlins, but i am prompted to confirm every single deletion, which ***** worse than you can imagine. apparently they are in use by a program, even though i have since deleted iphoto, hence the prompts for every file. (fwiw, i now use aperture 2.1)
i had this problem once before and i found a unix prompt on the internet that moved everything on the desktop into a folder. then i used another prompt to delete that folder, and that was that. basically i bypassed the finder, and all of the associated confirmation pop-up messages, using my imac's terminal.
i've spent about a week searching for this prompt, but to no avail. then i tried learning basic unix commands, but i really have no idea what i'm doing. i tried this command and it didn't work:
    piahi-imac:~ dan$ mv /Users/dan/Desktop/*.jpg /Users/dan/crap
-bash: /bin/mv: Argument list too long
i called apple care's legendary tech support, and the guy said "uh, we don't do terminal support. you can really screw up your computer that way." he then suggested i just click "confirm" 26,000 times.
    any suggestions?

  • Zero bytes files

    Hello.
I'm facing this problem for a few times now and it is very frustrating that I keep loosing all my work.
I use MS Office 2011 (latest install 14.0.1) in my iMac OS X version 10.9.4.
I store my documents in my iPod formatted with MS-Dos Fat32 so I can use it both in Windows and Mac.
A few times now, I came upon excel and word files with Zero bytes losing a bunch of working hours.
The first time it happen after I saved and close an excel document. A couple of day after when I tried to open the document, I realized it was empty. I tied a couple of Office rescue softwares but nothing worked because the file was simply empty!
A second time this happen with a word document. Exactly the same way.
My guess is that has something to do with the file system in the iPod Fat32 (where all my documents are stored) but what is very annoying is the fact that I didn't get any error or so. I saved the documents correctly and closed the programs just to realize that my files are empty.
This problem probably happens with other files as well but I only notice the office documents as I put a lot of working hours on this.
I can't find a solution so far and it's very time consuming to once and a while redo all my work.
    Does anyone experience similar problems?
Urgent solution to solve and/or prevent this problem is needed.
    Thanks
