Zesm and mcafee

We are having horrible performance issues with zesm and mcafee 8.7 with epo installed on our windows xp workstations. PC utilization is fine, but simply the operation of windows is unusable with both applications installed. (firefox takes minutes to load... removal of zesm takes 1/2 hour to unload) Once unloaded pc works fine.
Curious if anyone has ran into this....

What version of the Endpoint Client are you using?
I came across this during testing with the 3.x client. I would also add exceptions to EPO for endpoint:
C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks Security Client
STEngine.exe
STUser.exe

  • Need help if you run Windows 7 and McAfee

As I posted to other thread, I was not able to do auto-updating of CS5 since CS5 was installed.  The problem seems to be related to firewall settings.
I am running windows 7 and McAfee Security Center.   I turned off Firwall from McAfee.  But I am getting the same error.
As shown in the top figure, it show Firewall was turned off by McAfee (see red arrows).
When I opened windows firewall, it described that these settings are managed by McAfee (see below).
What I see is that Under domain Profile, windows firewall is off (red arrow).  But Firewall in both  private and public profiles are on (see blue arrows in the above figure).
What I want is to turn off McAfee firewall in order to perform CS5 autoupdating.
Could someone help me with my problem?
    Hummer

    What exactly is a firewall:
at its basic level, a firewall is a barrior that is designed to keep threats out.
Some firewalls do a better job then others but ultimately its the "people" behind the firewall that is responsable for security.
Many firewalls have both incoming and outgoing rules to help keep PC's safe.
McAfee intigrates into the operating system, thats why it changes the windows firewall rules and why you see the windows firewall is no longer manageable by normal means. it may even hook in a use portions of the windows firewall and expends windows built in security from that point.
Before you attempt to uninstall it, I highly recommend you put everything back to its normal running state, then after uninstalling from add remove programs also use their removal tool to insure all registry enteries are also removed. This "should" put everything back to factory default settings for windows firewall rules.
    http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS100507
I am of the opinion that McAfee, in its quest to secure its "customers", customers PC's with the least amont of end user interaction, it became blind to the fact that sometimes you need to reset everything back to factory default and simply start over, It may even be there but its not easly found or wasn't last i used it. Even their virus scanner is difficult to disarm once activated. They hook into many aspects of the operating system in an effort to keep you safe weather you like it or not.
An old saying comes to mind, Freedom comes with a Price.
I'll not say McAfee software is bad, I think they lost touch with the end user is all, They are more interested in the dollar then the end user. The ISP's line their pockets and are their real customers, you didn't really think the software was free did you? What the big ISP's want in there for security is what they tend to put in there. Almost all ISP's in the states provide free McAfee or Nortons security with their service plans and every new PC has either one in there "free"
I would personally try to uninstall McAfee completly, if that fixes the issue you can always put it back if you choose or some other security suite.

  • Why do your updates delete my toolbars and mcafee site advisor?

dude i am sick of this happening. every time you send me an update you eradicate my yahoo toolbar along with all my quick launch apps. and my mcafee site advisor also gets taken from me. one more update like this and i'm deleting mozilla.

This is not a mcafee issue. Its a mozilla update issue. Every time i get an update from mozilla i have to download my yahoo toolbar and mcafee site dvisor all over again. Anyway lets drop it because mozilla obviously doesnt care. Thanks for nothing mozilla.

  • Why does Adobe think we want addons Chrome and McAfee added to a simple FLASH update???????????

Presenting an update with addons like Chrome and McAfee to be installed nefariously directly run from the site is not good.  Downloading the file after unchecking the box that I don't want  mcafee messing up my computer one can install the update without that garbage.  I don't want Chrome either..  Sure I have used it in the past but I don't want it now.  It is just about impossible to use the web these days without flash activated unless you are an people and don't get it anyway.   Trying to piggyback that unwanted software on top of a Flash update is not cool!  Its bad enough 3rd party downloads come with  things like that but whats next some adware?    Please rethink your update policies as getting that stuff installed is doing no one that doesn't want it any favors at all.

Adobe does not think that anyone wants these 3rd-party add-ons.  However, they have to fund a development team for the free software they provide; that's why/how they try to recover some of that funding.
I can understand they need money for their product yet they are the ones that bought macromedia and supported it on the web for years.  I can remember when pdf files were new so new it stopped BART from allowing it through the network I was on.  Do they not make enough money off of Photoshop?  I realize if a network wants to support flash on macs they need to buy a another server option to make it work.  I just find it deplorable the way it is done.  In fact the check box is somewhat skillfully camouflaged on the update page.
Updates should not come with trickery in the update choice to tick the correct switch off (check box) to not have 3rd party unwanted choices.   The difference between the save vs run update from their site makes a difference in which way it comes to you as the default run from the adobe site is it comes with mcafee and chrome browser not the OS.  This is not useful for the average jo computer user that has no clue.
What is next Babylon toolbar?    Have you ever seen the video of John McAfee explaining how to uninstall mcafee av? Perhaps you would understand the frustration of the users that encounter this.
How To Uninstall McAfee Antivirus - YouTube
This is a user forum; it is not "our" policy!
It may be your forum but its at adobe.com and supposedly the place found to ask questions.  Its the only place I could find without writing a letter to adobe.
At least a dozen times every day someone posts the links to the offline installers, which are not bundled with any 3rd-party software.  Why not use these instead of complaining...?
You might put up some links too the offline installers,  however why should I trust some offline installer that may have adware, malware, or some other chumpware silkroped to it?
On top of that its adobe's updater that is notifying the user of update needed.      It appears the updates can come two different ways from adobe and may depend on if it is updating for ie or mozilla too.

  • Has anyone had the same problem with IOS 6 install and McAfee flagging certain IOS 6 install components as Malware?

I was using ITunes to install IOS 6 on my 64GB IPad 2 when McAfee on my IMac (Software  OS X 10.8.1 (12B19)) reported that it had found Malware and had put the offending file into quarantine. The IOS 6 install process then tried to re-write the file. This happened with three seperate files that the IOS 6 install process was attempting to write, effectivley causing a stall in the process. The only way I could get the install process to complete was to go into the McAfee preferences and change quarantine to notify. The process then completed.  Has anyone else come across this problem?

Hmmmm... That did not work.  I did the full restore on the ipod touch (Losing that is the lesser of the two evils if I screwed it up) and before I resynced it, I unplugged it and tried to plug it into the wall adapter.  But it would not charge.  Plugged it back into the computer and it popped right up with the lightning bolt on the battery and began charging.
So I resynced it and at least all my stuff is still there.  Not going to bother trying with my phone if it didn't work on the ipod touch.
I can assure you my 4s is out of warranty.  I've had it for 2 years.

  • Rescue and Recovery and mcafee endpoint encryption

just an fyi. Maybe it will save someone hassle. Apparently mcafee endpoint encryption and rescue and recovery are not compatible My company uses mcafee solution to protect data. IT installed corp image and wiped recovery partition. They also missed most of updated lenovo drivers. I have installed Lenovo solution center and followed all suggestios to update drivers etc. And then I followed its solution to install rescue and recovery... And after reboot i got a mcafee message that endpoint encryption is not installed... Apparently rescue and recovery modified MBR of the disk making laptop unusable. Now will have to chase IT guy who installed my laptop in order to recover it. Lenovo developers please add additional check into rescue and recovery install to at least warn user of potential issue if mcafee endpoint encryption is installed. Thanks.

I'm not sure what answer you are looking for.  R&R modifies the boot loader, and other software can also modify it.  From R&R perspective, we can't possibly know every other piece of software that modifies the boot loader, or know when an existing boot loader is already installed which is incompatible with R&R.
If your company uses Sophos Safeguard or WinMagic SecureDoc, instead of McAfee Endpoint Encryption, the same scenario would work.
More information about the R&R boot loader is in the R&R deployment guide here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM007642
McAfee should have tools that can repair its boot loader.

  • Acrobat Reader and McAfee and GetPlus?

Adobe have you lost your mind?  You are (and really are) tricking people into installing McAfee and in my opinion this is just as bad as those antivirus credit card theves.  Funny that this is McAfee working with you to Bloat up my system and try to steal customers without there concent.  Don't touch my system except for what I am trying to install.  There are hundreds of thousands of people that agree here so stop Hijacking our computers privates storage space.
I have managed to stop the installation when I noticed the computer was asking for permission to install things i didn't ask it to.  Now every time I try to install acrobat reader it shows that McAfee is already downloaded and queued to be installed.  This is even after uninstalling more bloatware called GetPlus.  I feel violated by Adobe here.

Yes I know, but Adobe offers no outlet for their users to express their thoughts without signing up for a bunch of things.  And personally I think Adobe would be (or is) stupid if they never look at these forums.  I have looked at complaints by others about this accross the net and I feel unloading it here on Adobe's doorstep is the best place for it.  They can walk over it every morning if they like, but it would only be insult to injury.
I think I have a good reason to be annoyed by Adobe's actions on this and I feel this is how I want to express it.
If anyone knows of an email that goes to Adobe Acrobat Team or some sort of website feedback then I would much rather send it there.  Adobe has not made it obvious to me how to do that.
    Thank You.

  • Problem with Reader download and McAfee

I am the administrator of a small charity with a number of very naive users. They need to be able to read PDFs and so must have a PDF reader. I can tell them the link to download the Adobe Reader but unless they untick the McAfee box they will install McAfee. Most of them will then be thrown in unrecoverable confusion. It's no great help if I warn them that they need to untick the McAfee box - many will forget. And uninstalling McAfee will be way beyond many of them.
Is there a link I can give them which will enable them to download the Reader without getting McAfee by default?
I could find an alternative non-Adobe reader and give them the link to that, but there is a further complication that we have got some more competent users who need to edit and return the PDFs I send them. Is there an alternative product which would enable them to do that?
I don't want to have to provide two links, one for naive users to a non-Adobe reader and the other for more competent users to the Adobe Reader with a warning about unticking McAfee.

Many thanks to Pat for the very prompt response.
I followed the link suggested by Pat and requested the right to distribute the Reader as the Administrator of the charity. The email granting the right gave me a link to a window from which I was able to download the Installer for the Reader, an executable file, without having to untick McAfee. That is what I would like our members to be able to do, but it seems to me that the only person allowed to use this link is me as the Administrator - I don’t think I can pass it on to the members.
I think that instead I am expected to pass the installer executable file to the members. The email says I would do that, for example, as a download bundled in with the Distributer’s installer. We don’t have anything like that. I assume that in principle I could attach the file to an email and send it to the members, but it is far too large for an email attachment. Other means of getting it to the members, such as a private Dropbox, would get too complicated for our least technically able members.
I can’t find any way to email Adobe Support about this, so hope that pat or other people in this group might have some ideas.

  • Mac os x 10.5 , filevault and McAfee Virusscan mac 8.6

some users at Ohio State University are having problems with this product set. with filevault turned on, after logging in to filevault, or giving their userid/password, and it starts up, they navigate to various files and all of a sudden the rolling beach ball comes up and their are more or less locked up. One user reports: I had file vault turned on, opened Mail, it commenced downloading new messages and
as it was doing that I was browsing my folders of old email in the
program. The beach ball came up, I could move the mail window but not
use it. I couldn't get other programs to run either, this continued
from roughly 12:45 pm until about 130pm.
Mcafee cited KB report 3162553 (set on access scan to "on write"), which one user said alleviated the problem, but for others they still lock up. when filevault is not started the problem goes away.
has anyone seen anything like this? I work with site licensing and so am reporting this on behalf of others.

I am running a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and would like to simply purchase the I Work ( $ 79.00 one in disk form ) from the mac store and run it.
iWork costs $79 on the Apple online store. But it's a bit cheaper buying it from the Mac App Store (you have to buy them individually for about $20 each). The only catch is the Mac App Store is a program that comes with OS X 10.6, so you'd need to upgrade OS X on your Mac.
Will my ( now older ) computer run it and will it recognize my pages documents that exist on my computer?
Pages 4.1 requires OS X 10.6.6 or newer. So you'd need to update your Mac from OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.6.

  • BB Link and McAfee Web Proxy

I'm having an issue getting any BB10 device to connect to BB Link.
I've managed to figure out the issue is related to McAfee Web Proxy that we use, since if I uninstall the software or allow it to be disabled for a period of time, I can connect the device without any issues.
While I know the BB Link software has no options for proxy settings, I'm hoping someone would be able to help me figure out what sites the software tries connecting to, so I can bypass them and resolve my issue.
Already tried talking to McAfee, but they won't help me as apparently they don't support smartphones/tablets, even though their software isn't running on any of those, but the Win7 computer with BB Link.
    Thanks!

    Hi ApolloX2,
First of all, a few thoughts about the problem you're facing here
    1. Actually deciding if the server is not available is not an easy task: a server can be slow to process a request and send the answer but still be available. On the other hand, the server can answer, but return an error (anything from "410 Gone" to "500 Internal Server Error" to redirects). Did you consider all these cases?
    2. Detecting when/if all the resources on a page have been loaded is another hard to solve problem: there's no event on the HTMLLoader to signal when *all* content was successfully loaded, and the matter is even more complicated when you consider dynamically generated/loaded content via JavaScript/AJAX.
Of course, things can be simplyfied if you don't want to load "free-form" (arbitrary) web content but rather your application will load only content with a previously known structure/in a previously known setting. Either way, you'll still have to manually identify the resources you want to save and save them.
If you have some prior info about what you're going to display (and save), you could parse the HTML loaded inside the HTMLLoader. The HTMLLoader object exposes the DOM nodes as dynamic properties. You can take a look at how that's done inside the AIRIntrospector framework that's shipped with the AIR SDK. You can find the source in SDK_PATH/frameworks/libs/air/AIRIntrospector.js .
    Hope this helps,
    Mihai

  • Adobe flashplayer and McAfee security, why?

I have been using adobe products both professionally and at home for some time now. Last time I updated adobe flash player it gave me the option of not loading mcafee security and I therefore didn't load it as it causes serious conflicts with much of the software that I have. This time, without warning, mcafee security has been loaded and I am now stuck with trying to solve many conflicts. I therefore have 3 questions:
1/ Why does adobe insist on bundling software, that people don't want want, with their software without telling them?
2/ Does adobe look at the web forums, other than it's own, prior to bundling software with their products to see what reactions people have towards the bundled software?
3/ Has adobe got a contract with mcafee to get their product bundled as many people may be moving away from mcafee due to security issues?
I used to use mcafee for my virus protection (newly updated) until I had some software deleted by AVG (which at the time was over 20 days old) due to a malicious trogen virus embeded in the software. From that point on I have not trusted mcafee.
If possible I would like these questions answered, as would many others worldwide.

Unfortunately any image you uploaded, to show the location of the checkbox to disable McAfee, was stripped out of the reply by adobe.
I am usually pretty thorough when going through menus on loading products or updates and there was no warning and no checkbox. Thank you for trying to help.
What I have done so far is set my firewall to kill any attempt of McAfee updating or running, in the hope that this works.

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 and McAfee Email Gateway appliance

I have been connecting to my company's exchange server without incident until the IT department installed a McAfee Email Gateway. Now I cannot connect and the IT department tells me there is nothing they can do. Has anyone encountered this issue?

If server has enabled ActiveSync you can use Windows 8 Mail Client - works almost like Outlook.
AFAIR Outlook 2013 can't work with Exchange 2003.

  • SCCM and Mcafee anti virus

    Hi all,
we have been running SCCM for about 5 years now, both 2007 and now 2012 versions and in that time our only Anti Virus product has been Mcafee (unfortunately in my mind).  over this time we have had no issues with the AV blocking anything to do with
SCCM but in the last 2 or 3 months I'd say, I have noticed a few issues that I initially thought to be issues with Microsoft security updates, but have subsequently realised it is in fact Mcafee causing the issue.
basically what seems to be happening, and I have only noticed this on Windows 7 and server 2008 computers (don't have many win 8 computers yet to notice if there is a problem there too), is that when software updates are advertised to a computer and installed,
the updates install perfectly well but when it comes to the reboot phase, the computers start to boot, generally get to about 32% of applying the updates and then do another reboot, then try to carry on the software configuration bits only for them to
uninstall themselves again.  if I look in the windowsupdate.log there will be numerous errors regarding being able to apply the updates with access denied errors with associated error code 0x800007005 or something like that and if I look at the corresponding
logs in mcafee, they tie up with the timestamps of the access denied messages in the windowsupdate.log and blocking messages in Mcafee AV.
If I disable mcafee service, install the updates with SCCM, reboot etc etc. they install fine, reboots fine, applies updates during boot sequence fine etc. no problem
if I use windows updates via the control panel instead of SCCM, the updates also, install fine.
so.... after all that background my question is this.....
what other SCCM files, other than ccmexec.exe should my security team be putting in the exclusion lists for Mcafee that could be causing it to roll back the Microsoft Updates installed via SCCM 2012?
ie. why will the AV allow normal windows update to install the MS updates but block SCCM from doing this?
also, I would have thought that after the updates have been installed by SCCM and it reboots the computer or the user manually reboots, at that point SCCM ceases to be part of the equation and the computer should just update the registry etc as required
without AV blocking it.... is there any part of SCCM that could be causing AV to block the final stages of applying the updates during the boot process? it seem unlikely, however there is no question there is a relationship between the two based on my testing
    outlined above...
anyone who may have come across as well and have any pearls of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.
    regards
    douglas

thank you Gerry, appreciate the response.
I notice most of the recommendations refer to the actual SCCM servers themselves in order to increase performance.
My particular problem is around the clients rolling back updates due to anti virus software not liking something to do with SCCM at the moment.  I notice there is reference to the softwaredistribution folder which is probably worth checking out with
the security team that that folder is not being scanned, but not sure if that would be why the updates are not installing as this issue is a relatively new issue and I would have noticed that a long time ago.
thanks again for the post and I'll get those added.  if anyone else has experienced this issue with clients not installing updates due to Antivirus software, would appreciate any help?
    thanks
    doug
