Zfd 4.01

I am dealing with a server I did not build It crashed and I have recovered
it. However ZFD workstation import is not working. I am trying to do a
reinstall of zfd 4.01 rf 7 but for some reason it is not creating the
Inventory Service Object in eDirectory. I have followed the documention
for reinstalls
http://www.novell.com/documentation/zdpr/index.html
and it does not give me an error.
Any ideas?

  • MM services on ZFD server

Can I install MM services on a ZFD server? Environment currently is a single
ZFD 6.5.1 (Netware 6.5 sp3) server built as a stand alone INV server with
Sybase DB. I wish to install many Zen Server management components on
Windows 2003 server but realize the Management and Monitoring services must
be on a NetWare server. Before you ask, it behooves me to include a Windows
box in this scenario. I know this info is probably some place in the
interoperablity documentaion, just looking for short version. I can dig into
    docs if answer is yes.
    Thanks

  • Windows Installer 3.0 and ZFD 3.2

We just got an application that uses, and requires, Windows Installer 3.0
upon deployment. None of our Windows 2000 or Windows XP computers has that
    version of installer, yet...
What issues are there with installing the installer and this application
    with ZFD 3.2?
    Thanks.

the password for those users is "novell" must be all lower case. You
also try and see if you can attach through Novell's ODBS driver. It
should have been installed on your server during the ZfD install.

  • Explorer crashes after installing ZFD 3.2 SP3

    I have a server running NW5.1 SP7 with ZFD 3.2. Over the weekend I
installed ZFD3.2 SP3 on the server. Now I'm having problems with people
    crashing at random.
Random people at random times with get a message that says:
    Explorer.EXE - Application Error
The instruction at "0x71739dfc" referenced memory at "0x0294fde4". The
memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.
When the user clicks OK their desktop disappears and they have to reboot.
I've had some users get this every five minutes.
I've tried upgrading to the latest Novell client but that hasn't helped.
Has anyone else had this problem?

  • SceCli 1202 warnings after installing ZFD 4

    Hi there,
Here's my problem. I'm trying to roll out several standard images to all
the workstations for our company. There are 3 types of computers and for
each I'm making a standard image that is to be distributed through ZenWorks
Imaging. For 2 types I'm already done and didn't have any problems, but the
last one keeps giving me headaches.
The procedure I follow is simple, I install Windows 2000 with SP4 with all
updates. From this clean image I already make an image for when I mess
things up. After that I reroute "zenwsimport" to localhost so I'm not
importing the workstation into eDirectory automatically. After this I
install Novell Netware Client 6.5 and Novell Zenworks Client 4, and after
    this I reboot.
Now everything seems to be going alright, but booting up is a little slow,
but after I log into the machine I get several warnings that I'm unable to
    remove.
    =====================================

    =====================================
Especially the last one is a pain, because they want to start using Roaming
Profiles. This would hamper that I think.
One intersting sidenote is that directly after I installed ZFD 4 and
rebooted I got a message that Zenworks Imaging is doing some final tasks
and may need to be rebooted. I didn't get this message with the 2 other
PC's, and I think it shouldn't happen since it's a newly installed system,
    not an image.
Also I get several errors in %WINDIR%\Security\Logs\Winlogon.log

I recently checked the application log and this "user" is not the same one
that is specified in the application log entries from the ZFD installer.
Now all things lead me to believe that the "Imaging tasks" that are
performed after installing ZFD is the wrongdoer.
Anyway, I'm out of ideas. If you have any, please help me :P
Many thanks for at least reading thisfar, and many more thanks for any

  • ZFS and ZFD 6.5 Databases

    Hi
I am having issues with the databases in ZenWorks 6.5. I have one server
that has ZFD and ZFS installed. I am having the darndest time getting the
Server Management Database and Desktop Management Databases to start or
collect anything. The ZFS SM DB object was created during the ZFS
install, but all the DB usernames and passwords were blank and the JDBC
driver info was blank. So I filled these in, but not sure what port
(2638?) or what the flags (?ServiceName=zfslog&JCONNECT_VERSION=4) should
be set to for the JDBC driver tab on ZFS SM database object. The ZFS SM
DB tells me it isn't running, and the ZFD NAL DB says "this db is not an
inventory db or you are trying to access an older version of the inventory
db". There is only Zen 65 installed in this tree.
I got the ZFD inventory of 2 workstations, but not sure how to get
inventory of a ZFS server at this point.
    Help??

  • ZFD 4.00 update options

    Hi,
I have ZFD 4.00 in my NW 5.1 environment. NOT 4.01, just original out of
the box 4.00. It does everything I need it to do; imaging, policies
(including group policies) remote control, app objects and NAL delivery.
It has been working great since day 1 and Ive imaged and deployed about
120 PCs with it, all XP with sp1.
Problem: Time to deploy more PCs. I know at least 2 things; 1, I will
not be able to image them with ZFD 4.00 because the NIC wont be
understood. 2, There may be some policy problems or weird goings-on
because these new PCs will have XP sp2 on them.(I still have to check the
Cool Solutions site; I recall that there was an entire thread on sp2
issues so Im not too worried about that)
OK, I know one more thing; Im EXTREAMLY APREHENSIVE about patching ZFD
and breaking what I already have!
    Questions:
1.Where to start? All of the patches I see refer to the baseline as ZFD
4.01 (such as zfd 401 ir6.) Can I even do anything with 4.00? Going to 7
isnt an option at this time; too many technical and monetary hurdles.
2.Can I update just the imaging pieces so I can somehow do imaging with
what I have? (To make matters worse, I have no Linux experience or Linux
box to gen imaging files with.)
    All suggestions GREATLY appreciated!

  • DHCP Conflict between ZfD 4 Agent and Novell Client

I am having problems with the use of Novell Client versions that support
DHCP settings tab (Tree, Context, Server).
This is in this board because my problem is only reproduced when ZENworks
for Destkops 4 (IR5 and IR7) Workstation Management component is installed.
    THe problem is this:
Every now and then, logging in with the novell client displays 886f errors
in the login results window, and other strange communication errors.
If I release and renew the IP, it works fine after that.
If I reboot, there is a chance I get the same problem.
This absolutely does not happen when I have the two options for DHCP
settings in the Novell Client unchecked (Server->Binary Data).
Now, is ZfD Workstation Manager getting the Preferred Server IP from DHCP
as well during system startup? Is this clear? Happens on both Windows
    2000 and Windows XP.
I have no access to the router serving DHCP so I don't know the details on
    that end.

There was (is?) a conflict that is supposed to be solved,
but I'm not 100% convinced that is true. Since I always
use Client32 I remove novdhcp.dll in my ZfDAgent transform,
even now with ZDM7 because I've seen the "semaphore" error

  • Error 1456 when trying to remote to Zfd Agent 6.5

We are upgrading from ZEN 3.2 sp3. Our clients were upgraded from 4.83
sp1 to 4.90 sp2, but as we load the 6.5 Zfd Agent we are finding a number
of them are lossing remote-ablilty from ConsoleOne 1.3.6d w/6.5 snap-ins.
    we get the error 1456:..
TID 10091097 says this was fixed with ZENWSREG.DLL dated 2/17/04. We are
running ver 6.5.1.0 dated 1/24/05 and the problem still occurs. I have
found uninstalling the Remomte Management from the General tab under Local
Area Connection fixes this most of the time, however not always.
Does anyone have a silver bullet solution for this problem?
We are not using a Middle Tier Server.
    Thanks.

    >I have anumber of TIDs on this issue. I tested Friday and the one thing
that looks promising is to delete the workstation object, have the PC
reboot. Uninstalling the Remote management service does work but it is
not permenent. TIDs 10093784 and 10091097 were enlighting. I was not told
of such problems between ZEN 3.2 and 6.5. It would appear that
integrating the client within Windows, Novell has fallen victum to Windows
    compatibility traps.
With all the problems I've seen in this upgrade I would caution Novell to
do a lot more testing. And maybe invest in a Microsoft Active Directory
    domain for thier test lab.
Hmmm..there should be nothing to uninstall under LAn connection.

  • Installation of ZFD inventory services

We have been using ZFD 3.0 SP1a for quite some time but we
haven't installed Inventory Services so far, which we'd like to do now.
How can we install Inventory Services in addition? (It's not a
re-installation but we want to do it for the first time.)
Is it enough to rerun ZFD 3.0 SP1a and select all the components
including Sybase or do I have to go back to the basic installation of
ZFD 3.0 and then install the support pack afterwards again?
Is there any danger of corrupting our present configuration?
We are running Netware 5.1 SP6.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Gerhard

    Gerhard,
besides that Zen 3.0 and NW 5.0 is no longer supported there is no
    danger :)
Just rerun the setup and choose all components for inventory including
the sybase option. Afterwards re-apply SP1a.

  • Help a bonehead - ZfD server modules for desktop agents?

Ok guys, I have to be honest I was really versed on ZfD but it has been a good number of years since I've really touched it. Here is what is going on, we are migrating fully to OES2 SLES10/OES11 and removing all our Netware servers over time. We are at a point where we can retire 2 of our 3 remaining Netware servers if ZfD doesn't require them. We are in the process of also going to Windows 7 on all workstations, we'll use ZCM 11 for them. Here is my question....
What does the Windows Desktop Agents rely on for user related policies? Does it connect to eDirectory directly and read the policies? In other words we have Windows XP Pro workstations running the ZFD Agents. We are only are using the user associated policies for DLU(mandatory remaining profiles) and user associated group policies. We'd like to keep these running and if memory serves they don't call any specific NLMs on the Netware servers, they just read eDirectory for their information.
Is this correct? Please be kind, my ZfD 7 knowledge is simply fading away. Thanks.
    -Nyle

    Thanks Craig,
I really appreciate the confirmation. That is what I had thought but you know what assuming does. We aren't using any software bundles or Workstation assigned policies only user policies so it sounds like we should be good to go.
Only one more Netware 6.5sp8 server to go, I'm kind of sad to see the end of such a reliable legacy. I hope that Novell can infect the Linux side of the house with the idea that with power, management complexity doesn't have to be the norm. 8^D

The two main server functions are the Inventory Server and Workstation
    Import Service.
If you are not worried about Inventory, then the Inventory Server does
    not matter.
Workstation Import Service is not required, though not having it is a
slightly larger issue. There are two main things you lose if the WS is
    not imported.
#1 - You cannot assign Bundles/Policies directly to Devices, only uses.
    Duh :>
#2 - The System Account will not have any File Rights for running User
Associated Bundles set to run as System Directly from a Network share.
However, you could run the bundle as Logged on User or 1st copy the
files local and then run an install as System.

  • ZfD and ZfS on same server? Centralized monitoring of disk usage? ZfS 6.5 or 7?

We have ZfD running on one server for approx. 600 users (Sybase db on
    NetWare 6.5).
We use it for; WS registration, WS Inventory, Application Mgmt, NAL
    database, Imaging)
I have a mixture of Microsoft Windows and Novell NetWare servers.
    Approximately:
    30 Microsoft Windows servers (2000 and 2003)
    10 Novell NetWare servers (NW 5.1 SP7 and NW 6.5 SP3)
Q1: Is it feasable to have the ZfS backend running on the same server that
    hosts the ZfD backend ?
We are trying to find a way to monitor all server for disk usage. Ideally
we want to get a view/report of all servers (regardless of Novell or
Microsoft) to see where each disk is at with regards to available space and
also see historical trends for disk usage.
Q2: Can ZfS do this for us? We are licensed to use it but so far we've
only implemented the ZfD 6.5.2 and are quite please with the results.
Q3: Also, since we are licensed to use the latest ZfD and ZfS, any reason
to implement ZfS 7 instead of ZfS 6.5? We know that ZfD 7 is pretty much
the same as ZfD 6.5.2 so we've decided to hold back on this upgrade. If we
move forward with ZfS, I'm guessing that sticking with same version being
used with ZfD is a good idea?
    Thanks for any answers!

Yes, it's very workable with both ZFD and ZFS on the same box. ZFS can
monitor any of these features. It uses SNMP to do this on both netware and
    windows.

Glad to hear ZFD is working for you.

Yes, although ZFS7 subscribers can run on XP, but I don't think 6.5 can.
In a way, zfd and zfs are very separate and the patches do not have to
match, but if you can keep it the same, than do. :)
    Hope that helps.
