Zfs iscsi small issue

Hi, I set up a test volume on zfs to use for a xenserver SR. I can connect it up to xenserver without issues if I do not use a hostgroup.
When I try to use a hostgroup xenserver cannot discover the lun, below is my hostgroup config
Host Group: xenservers
Member: iqn.2010-08.com.xenserver-03:41f109c8
Member: iqn.2010-08.com.xenserver-04:0ccdd701
Member: iqn.2011-07.com.xenserver-05:225d43ba
Member: iqn.2012-03.com.xenserver-06:9534d6a3
those are the 4 xenservers, does anyone have and idea why this isn't working? I don't like adding a view to ALL hosts if I don't have to.
Thanks

Kyle P,
Check this observatory from Oracle!: https://blogs.oracle.com/observatory/en_US/entry/iscsi_san
It explains all the related configuration for both sides, server and client (including windows based clients). You have might missed something as if it related to configuring LUN, adding views, targets, and most importantly, client discovery.
Just a reminder, it is a two pages article.
Cheers.

  • Just three small issue...

    Hello All,
    Well after a few months of delay (First me damaging the bois chip then me burning out the motherboard) I finally got my computer up and running. I do have some small issues that I hope someone may be able to help me with.
    1.   When I shut down the computer it restarts itself. The only way I can shut it down is to hit the power button in the back of the case.
    2.   When I do attempt to shut down the computer and it restart on it’s own I get no video. It also gives three long beeps. Now please understand that the video card works fine when the computer is on or when I do a manual restart. This only happens when I try to shut down the computer.
    3.   When I try to use the RAID by plugging up two hard drives the computer well get stuck at the screen where it read the array configuration.  The configuration can be correct with the RAID set for stripe two (WD 13GB and a WD 7GB hard drive) Western Digital hard drive’s.
    Any type of help would be great. Here are the specs to my computer.
    KT3 Ultra2-R
    AMD 2100+ XP
    512MD DDRAM
    WD 20GB
    Goldstar 40x12x40
    Acer 52x CD-Rom
    Jaton Geforce 2 MX/MX 400

    wd also have funny jumperless master with no slave setting
    normal master only if it has a slave
    why raid none matching drives
    a stripe will only be 2x smallest and a mirror size of the smallest

  • ZFS iSCSI and free capacity in VMFS

    Hi all,
    I use ZFS in FreeNAS 8.0.4 and use iSCSI to provide a LUN to Vmware ESXi 5.0.
    I post it at http://forums.freenas.org/showthread.php?10990-Memory-utilization-and-performance-problem/page4, but I believe people here may have more expertise on ZFS.
    FreeNAS doesn't have iSCSI unmap. I have create / move / delete virtual machine between ZFS iSCSI. After a while, zpool list report 95% capacity used. However, Vmware shows VMFS only uses 50% capacity.
    AFAIK, when creating a virtual machine, zvol allocated disk space.
    However, when we moved / deleted virtual machine, zvol didn't update / didn't aware to update the free capacity.
    [root@data1] ~# zpool listNAME SIZE USED AVAIL CAP HEALTH ALTROOT
    data1 2.25T 2.07T 185G 95% ONLINE /mnt
    Now, I believe due to the wrong free capacity reported in zpool list, the performance is deeply affected.
    How I should do to let ZFS know the real free capacity.
    Thanks million.

    Unfortunately there is no easy solution. When you have a filesystem sitting ontop of the ZFS volume (i'm assuming you created a sparse volume), that filesystem may be placing blocks of data all over. Even if its not using the space anymore there was no way for the zfs volume to know that.
    Only way I found to alleviate it, is to use utils on whatever filesystem is ontop of the zfs volume to zero out unused space.. Usually a defrag first if (ntfs or fat32) and then zero out the free space. If you are running linux in the VM, then zerofree is a nice utility.
    One other thing I noticed. Is when zfs sending a volume to another server, it seems to deflate a bit. I am not sure why, probably because once the sparse volume has grown and claimed the blocks, it will not let go of them, but when zfs sending it may only be sending used blocks.
    Also consider turning on compression, even light like lzjb. No reason to not run with it on, it does wonders when you have VM OSs using volumes. My volumes using gzip-5 for Windows 7 VMs typically run at 2.00x compression and Linux VMs run at 2.5x compression.

  • Two small issues switching from Leopard to Snow Leopard

    Hi,
    I just recently switched to Snow Leopard from Leopard. I was considering Lion, but heard some bad things about it.
    Either way, I noticed two small issues. The first was a hot key set on my Logitech mouse. I had a button preset to all windows expose. In the software
    for the mouse driver you can set it to expose specifically. (Its not just setting it to a certain F key). For some reason this doesn't work anymore.
    The other problem is when I link my mac book pro to an external monitor thru an hdmi cable, I notice on the tv screen it reverts back to the default
    desktop background. Instead of having the picture I set, it shows up on the big screen the blue and purple space image.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply,
    The Logitech mouse driver said there were no updates available so I figured the expose had something to do
    with the new OS system since it now said expose and spaces, which Leopard never had spaces.
    So what I did was figured out how to just set it up with the F keystroke and it worked!
    When I link my Mac Book Pro to my tv, I use an external keyboard which is more up to date with the quick f keys up top and the arrangement is set up differently [ such as the volume keys are now f 10 and 11 instead of f 3 and 4 or something like that] Hopefully when my mbp is linked to this the keystroke I have set for expose still works. I believe it will.
    And as for the desktop bg, after unplugging my tv I notcied it still stayed on the space theme. So I believe I know what may be the issue. I set that bg off of a picture on an external hd, and never saved the image on my computer hd. So I'm assuming it saved the desktop picture in some cache thing or something and once it got linked to an external monitor it got refreshed.
    I now how that image on my computer and set, so hopefully the next time I link my computer to the tv, it'll stay.
    Thanks!

  • Help on small issues after WinXP downgrade from Vista

    Lenovo 3000 v200
    I recently downgraded from Vista to WinXP Professional, and I must say I'm much happier with XP.
    Some issues on the install: although I downloaded all drivers from the Lenovo site, the install didn't work from my usb floppy drive.
    It recognized the floppy on the F6 portion of the install, but then later it kept asking for the disk to be inserted (it was already in the drive).  Workaround was to install by changing to "compatibility mode" in the BIOS, and after install, loading all drivers and changing BIOS back to SATA.
    All features of the laptop appear to work perfectly; camera, fingerprint reader, wifi, etc.
    HOWEVER: in the device manager, there are 3 yellow exclamation points in the "Other Devices" section, and each of them is labeled "Base System Device."   Does anyone know what these are?  Why are they not recognized as specific devices?  LenovoCare doesn't recognize them either, and I have no idea what drivers to attempt to install for mystery devices.
    Also, "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus" won't install.  I have the current driver, and I've tried updating from LenovoCare, but no luck.  As I don't use a modem, this seems irrelevant, but I'd like to install it just the same if possible.
    Finally, the LenovoCare recognized a need to install a "Hotkey" update, and it claims to successfully install, but everytime I run LenovoCare it says I need it again.  Any comments or observations?
    Again, the computer works just fine even with these small issues.  In fact, it is better than fine; it is a joy to use and a real speed demon with XP instead of Vista.  So I'm not trying to do any rocket science or potentially screw up a very nice situation, but I am trying to iron out these small nuisances.
    Thanks to all of you who consider my trivial problems.  I really appreciate having knowledgable individuals like yourselves help out a very modestly skilled, but reasonably ambitious user.
    Cheers,
    Fred

    Hello Fred,
    I created a blog on this forum called.... "I Explain How To Downgrade From Vista To XP Successfully On A 3000 N100 Laptop" Locate this message and read through it. Try the "Auto Detect This System" I Talk about. It will load the latest drivers and the latest...BIOS..... for your particular model if you have not already upgraded it. You did not mention if you had upgraded your BIOS...... if your running an  "OLD" version.... THIS..... could be your problem.

  • Some UI papercuts and smaller issues

    The CS6 Beta, while generally awesome and full of plenty of new things, has plenty of smaller issues too. I know and understand that this is pre-release software, however I fear that some of these might be missed on release which would mean that they would never get fixed. Just personal experience with big software companies, nothing personal.
    So here are just some that quickly caught my attention:
    Hex field in color picker, while extremely useful, is awkwardly sized (especially as Hex values are only 3 or 6 symols long)
    Ruler tool would greatly benefit from the info tooltips introduced for the Selection and Move tools. Same would probably apply to the Eyedropper tool.
    Clicking on a shape layer's thumbnail no longer hides the shape's outline (I know that there's a global setting for this, but I heard some people disappointed with this on Twitter)
    Combining of all Workspace layouts into one dropdown menu. I personally loved the rapid switching possibility provided by the button layout in CS5.
    Additionally, I noticed a rather annoying bug with Type tool: Activating a text layer with the Type tool doesn't update the information in the toolbar nor in Characters panel (try it with two differently-styled text layers — the information for the old one is still displayed even though the new one is active).

    I can't reproduce that.
    Here's what I did:
    1.  Create two different text layers, with different fonts, different colors, different sizes.
    2.  Click on the T in the Tools Panel to activate the Horizontal Type Tool.
    3.  Now if I click on each layer all of the things you mention are updated with info from that layer.

  • A few small issues I can't find fixes for

    Hi everyone, I've been using arch for a little bit now and really enjoying the experience. I have run across 3 small problems and other than that everything thing seems to be running flawlessly. I'd appreciate any help with these, and thanks in advance. I have googled trying to find solutions and searched the wiki but either none of the issues were listed or the fixes for them didn't seem to have an effect, but if I missed something sorry, just if you want to point me in the right direction that'd be appreciated.
    So some specifics about my system first, I'm running on arch linux 64bit using KDE as my desktop environment.
    Okay so problem number 1:
    Sometimes when arch goes to boot it fails to mount /dev/sda2 which is my root partition, This doesn't happen everytime but I'd say 50 or 60 percent of the time, but when it does I give it a restart once or twice and it loads into arch just fine. I can restart my computer if anyone wants the exact wording I get, but it goes along the lines of "failed to mount /dev/sda2 you are now being dropped in to a recovery shell" Now I'm not sure but this might be because of the weird way I set the harddrive partitions up, but it worked in all the distros I used before settling on arch, but to give you an idea, I'm using 2 300gb hard drives, I have them split so that 1 hard drive is completely devoted to my / and /boot partitions, the other one has /usr /tmp /var and swap on it. In addition I have a 1tb drive for storage that is devoted to /home. If it is causing the problem and I have to reformat and go to a more conventional partition scheme I will, but I'd prefer to avoid that if at all possible, just because I am rather settled in to this install.
    Problem number 2:
    Amarok takes forever and a day to load, somewhere in the area of 60+ seconds, when I start it via the terminal I get this output:
    KGlobal::locale::Warning your global KLocale is being recreated with a valid main component instead of a fake component, this usually means you tried to call i18n related functions before your main component was created. You should not do that since it most likely will not work

    ** amarok --debug                                                                           **
    I thought maybe it was the gstreamer backend because the wiki said it might cause problems and to try using xine instead. However doing this didn't seem to help at all.
    Problem number 3
    Flash is all weird when I use Kwin, when I use compiz it works near flawlessly but my issue with that is then kde doesn't act nearly as smooth as it does without compiz. When I use flashplugin from the repos I can't go fullscreen because it makes everything freeze up, and when I try flashplugin-prerelease from the aur flash is always in the spot where it loaded meaning if I change tabs in firefox it goes through the other tab and if I scroll it stays stationary and everything else scrolls behind it.
    Again I apologize if I missed it in the searches that I ran and these have been solved elsewhere, but thanks in advance for all help given.
    Edit: Installing pulseaudio and using that instead of alsa seems to have fixed amarok starting slowly.

    milomouse wrote:Maybe you should use UUIDs instead of /dev/sd* to avoid any possible device confusion (type 'blkid' to see your UUIDs), though from your first post about "cannot mount /dev/sda2" it still appears to check for root device correctly.  At any rate, in your grub or lilo or syslinux (whatever bootloader you have) config you could also change root=/dev/sda2 to root=/dev/disk/by-uuid/YOURROOTUUID (however your bootloader can handle it) to help further reduce possible errors.  (helpful link: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pe … ice_naming )  Trying to think of what else it could be since it only happens every now and then, which is a little strange.
    Oh my bad I forgot to say I'm using grub, but yeah I went through and did that, That seemed to stop me being loaded into a recovery shell or whatever, but when arch started to boot about 2 out of the 5 times I restarted to test it, it said file systems didn't check and had my log in as root to try to remount the partition. Also I got a COMERROR=-32 after which it said it was doing a comreset and would retry in 8 seconds after doing that 3 times it booted almost every time unless it ran into the filesystem check.

    Hi Dudes,
    I have small problem in Process chain.
      1)Start
      2)Load  :
      3)activate : Always
    when i ran my PC ,due to some problem my Load Process type got fail.
      But after that i have actiavte Process type(PT) which should run whether Load PT is in success or fails .
    But it got stuck due to message "Status Change of Process LOADING ZPAK_EFAJ6WFZPJPA7MWVSZXETN4PE.
    Save Status and Trigger Events if Appropriate"
    with two option yes and no.
    when i click on yes then only it goes .
    But if i would run and nobody around then i would gets stuck at that point only .
    Is there any solution for that !!

    I do understand what u r saying.
    But I have given an example. Why that message box comes.
    Can’t we suppress automatically?
    Suppose had I been have a process type which send a mails after load status whether it fails or success at that point this could be an issue ??.
    So if it would be stuck like this then it could not send a mail.
    Hope u have understood my problem .
    or if u want in detail give me ur id i send u screen shot

  • Should I buy a new MBP?  (Lots of small issues with mine)

    Hi,
    There are a number of small but irritating problems with my MBP. Talking with a friend who has had her macbook into apple service 3 times now for replacements a lot more serious than my problems, I'm sure Apple won't replace the computer. A friend who has bought a couple MBPs now (later week version) has had very little problem with his.
    Specifically, the issues I'm having are as follows:
    1) CPU whine (I know this can't be fixed)
    2) Fan "moo"/clunk. The computer sounds like a small helicopter at times and at the best of times is always noisy..
    3) Heat issues - using the comp anywhere but on a flat surface (i.e. on my lap) and it heats up intensely. I know this is an issue with all computers, but compared to my powerbook it's night and day.
    4) Lag Issues. Doing ANYTHING takes a "long" time. I need to reformat but from opening firefox to booting up the computer or even sometimes mousing over the icon tray.
    5) Red headphone led. My internal speakers no longer work. I've read the problem has something to do with the headphone jack being stuck. Some fixes I've read include using a match stick, plugging in the headphones again (doesn't work).
    6) My display flickers slightly now also. Seems to synch with the fan "moo"ing.
    I'm using macintosh now because I like avoiding hassles. I switched from PC a few years ago after going through lots of issues and the powerbook was AWESOME. I'm assuming the macbookpro is going to eventually stabilize and work well also, is it there yet? Shall I buy a new one and just dump the current or will it be the same thing all over?
    Macbook Pro / 12" Powerbook Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Thanks for all the advice, it's appreciated. Particularly the advice to go down to the mac store and talk to a guru. I'm going to do that tomorrow.
    I've been able to tolerate things up until the latest bug, the fan now periodically starts spinning like a helicopter. It's way beyond anything I've dealt with.. I can't listen to music it's so loud and it disturbs anyone else around (clearly needs a fix).
    I can't send it in to be repaired as I can't do without a computer for that long. This said I thought to connect the new and old machine and copy the most important files over.
    (No I won't dump this lemon on someone else without letting them know about the issues. It may well be worthwhile to someone willing to nurse it through the various mac warranty & update issues. Eventually they may well end up with a new MBP).

  • Small issue in small program(code) that need to be fixed ...

    Hi Guys ,
    i need ur help in some kind of issue( technique thing ;) ). i have done small program that ask for numbers then print them and told u how many Odd numbers.
    the issue that i have it, is that the program when print the result (the numbers) it print them correctly but print with them word "null".
    i need ur help to avoid that word.
    How???
    sorry for my bad english, since i don't know english well.
    and thank u soo much for ur help ;)
    this is the code:-
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
         // takes number from the user and show u the odd number and print them
    public class Odd {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              String n,m;
              int a=0;
              int x=1;
              String result = null;
              n=JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,"How many number do you want to check for the odd ? ");
              int n1 = Integer.parseInt(n);
              int array[]=new int[n1];
              for(int i=0;i<array.length;i++){
                   m=JOptionPane.showInputDialog(null,"Enter number "+x);
                   array[i] = Integer.parseInt(m);
                   result=result+array[i]+"\n";
                   x++;
                   if( array%2 !=0 )
                        a++;
                   JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,"The Numbers Are :\n"+ result);
                   JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,"The Odd Numbers are:\n " a" Numbers");

    First of all you don't need to feel yourself sorry. Here is a Java forum not an english literature forum and at least I can understand you. At least you don't try to write in your language which we probably may not understand.
    Secondly if you initialize your String value like that you have the null value. You can initialize it like
    String result = new String(); and try it again.

    The workaround is to delete and re-create all pools after the ZFS server reboot.
    I use the VDI broker as the ZFS server which mounts an iscsi volume from a Linux box. The following shows an error in sharing a ZFS snaphoot via iscsi after a reboot. Not sure why. The same seems to happen with zfs clone as shown above.

    I'm a bit desparate as i cannot find a solution. VDI 3.2.1 is really good but the above behaviour in deleting and re-creating vdi pools after reboots is not sustainable.
    Thanks

    After the ZFS server reboot, the desktop providers are not able to access the virtual disks via iscsi.
    This is what is see when listing the targets:
    Target: vdi/0fe93683-91ca-4faf-a4db-d711b8c1a1d3

    PID: SOLARIS
    Type: disk
    Size: 20G
    Backing store: /dev/zvol/rdsk/vdi/0fe93683-91ca-4faf-a4db-d711b8c1a1d3
    Status: No such file or directory
    zfs list -Hrt volume vdi | grep d711b8c1a1d3
    vdi/0fe93683-91ca-4faf-a4db-d711b8c1a1d3 0 774G 8.69G -
    The vdi/0fe93683-91ca-4faf-a4db-d711b8c1a1d3 was cloned from a template prior to the reboot.
The same seems to happen with zfs clone as shown above.
    vdi/ad03deb8-214f-4b8a-bd51-8dc8f819c460 114M 765G 114M -
    vdi/ad03deb8-214f-4b8a-bd51-8dc8f819c460@version1 0 - 114M -
    zfs set shareiscsi=off vdi/ad03deb8-214f-4b8a-bd51-8dc8f819c460
    zfs set shareiscsi=on vdi/ad03deb8-214f-4b8a-bd51-8dc8f819c460
    cannot share 'vdi/ad03deb8-214f-4b8a-bd51-8dc8f819c460@version1': iscsitgtd failed request to share
    I'm a bit desparate as i cannot find a solution. VDI 3.2.1 is really good but the above behaviour in deleting and re-creating vdi pools after reboots is not sustainable.
    Thanks
    Thierry.

  • Small issues with iOS4, and iOS4.0.1 update

    Hello all, I'm posting this as a general area where those using iOS4 / iOS4.0.1 on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 ca report any little niggles they've noticed with the most recent updates.
    As I'm quite fond of my gadget, and it would be rare to see me glued to anything else, I've noticed a few. So I created this feed to show others these problems, at least to stop some worrying that its just their phone!
    This is what I've found thus far:
    (1) Firstly, the screen magnification function no longer works. I noticed this on the Messages application. If the 'lens' is active on the screen, with the usual prolonged hold on the screen, the entire thing is white. The same white as behind the message bubbles, wherever on the screen you hold the lens. The only thing you might see is the blue flashing place marker, which itself is not magnified either.
    There is obviously some glitch that stops magnification and display within the lens. I use a 3GS, and have looked at 2 other iPhone's, a likewise 3GS and an older 3G both using the first iOS4 update.
    (2) Next, I noticed some keyboards were not aligning to the crrect rotations on some third-party applications. When in portrait, if the keyboard is activated and then the phone is rotated, the narrow keyboard is displayed on the far left of the screen, in place of the wider landscape pad. The same is true, in reverse, if the phone is rotated from landscape when the keypad is activated.
    (3) One other issue is that some of the text alignment can be off, resulting in images and text and symbols being misplaced. I noticed this on the iPod application, on some music videos the small TV icon Apple uses for denoting videos is halfway across the screen, and the name is pushed away from the track numbering column.
    These are the issues I've seen so far. This is not me complaining, it is just a place where fellow users to report issues they've noticed and make others aware.
    I don't know if this has been done, and even if it has, its good to have a new comprehensive and up-to-date list.
    I would be interested to see what other issues users have encountered so please share. Any issues at all.
    I have some screenshot images of the problems I've listed should anyone wish to see what I mean, sadly images cant be uploaded on this forum.

    *BUMP* Does anyone have any ideas? Or has anyone managed to fix this problem for themselves?

  • MSI GX630 Small issues

    Hey guys,
    So I have a MSI GX630. I love this laptop. Its been amazing to me for the month I have had it. I just have a small question.
    My problem is that I am having issues playing league of legends. I don't have problems playing any other games at all! I just started playing Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning and it plays flawlessly!!!! But for some reason League of legends does not like my laptop. I get FPS drops even though the graphics requirements are way low. Even if I drop my settings in game down to low it still happens. I have read that League has issues with AMD processors and there timing issues. I have installed AMD CPU fix that is SUPPOSED to help with the timing issues. But it did not help. I tried setting the affinity of the game to run off of one processor but that did not do it. Does anyone have any ideas what would fix this? I have most recent BIOS and NVIDIA drivers installed. Any ideas? Thanks in advance guys!

  • Iscsi trustee issue

    Hello everyone,
    I have connected a Netware 6.5 SP 8 running edir 8.8.4 to my existing tree and configured it as a iscsi target and am attempting to use a Xen SLES 10 OES2 SP2 guest as an iscsi initiator. I am running into a slight issue though... In console one I can see my netware server and iscsi target objects, but cannot see my OES2 server object so that I can assign the trustee rights. If I log into imanager I can see the OES2 server object, but no iscsi target object and no Netware 6.5 server object... I cannot properly setup my initiator... If I try to create a connection I get an access denied message on the netware logger screen...
    Thanks,

    But that has absolutely no connection to Netware, nor iSCSI. If you
    don't see your OES2 server in ConsoleOne, it isn't even in the same
    tree. Please ask in the OES2 install groups.

    Nice. Not. You have obviously two entirely seperate eDir trees here. You
    really need to solve this first, assuming you want both servers to be in
    the same tree.
