ZFS Webconsole Broken
Hi,
I am having trouble with my Solaris 10 x86 webconsole, in particular, the ZFS Administration. I'm not exactly sure when it broke but it was either after and update to CAM (Common Array Manager) or any number of other patches that I installed.
After updating the CAM software I no longer had the ZFS Administration option in the webconsole so I tried to manually re-register it with smreg add -a /usr/share/webconsole/webapps/zfs (I think - I got that from bash history so that could be incorrect).
But after doing that I now have the option but if I click on it, It only partly comes up and the left hand frame with an "Unable to Connect ....host:6789", the right hand frame is blank.
The top frame displays the normal "application", "version", "logout" and "help" buttons and the version button works and says "ZFS Administration 1.0 ..."
Clicking on the "Applications" button brings me back to the web console login and said the Session Time Out (even though I just logged in less than a minute ago). The other Application("Sun StorageTek(TM) Common Array Manager") works fine.
Can anyone suggest a possible solution or what to look for?
Thanks,
I think waiting for a patch might be indefinite, Since I had the problem before 10/08 was released so I don't think it would be specific to the 10/08 release. I've been waiting for a "patch" since June and still no fix. I'm thinking that it's more of a configuration change that occurred and until we find the config that is causing the problem we will continue to see it through any additional patches.
We had this happen with the Sun Java System Calendaring system where a patch installed properly but when running there was a config option that was interpreted in the previous release (either due to a bug or some other issue, I don't think it was deprecated) that was no longer interpreted after the patch was applied and subsequent patches did not help since the config should not have been interpreted as correct in the first place.
Just my .02,
If I ever get any time to really investigate this in any great depth I will update this post if I find an answer. For now I'm being content with the command line (which I usually prefer).

Sun Java(TM) Web Console is running -
Hello all,
I have a T2000 (sol10 8/07), OBP 4.27.7, SUNWldm 1.0.1, zfs version 4 that post os patching (using the Sept 08 Recommended patch cluster) now cannot use zfs volumes as virtual disks. Files on zfs filesystems used for boot devices however work fine (ie the ZFS for boot disk setup as described in the admin guide). Whenever I try and "bind-domain" on a guest domain using a zfs volume I see the following in /var/adm/messages on the primary domain...
Sep 3 15:16:56 isdsyddev13 specfs: [ID 853503 kern.notice] NOTICE: spec_getpage called for character device. Check any non-ON consolidation drivers
Sep 3 15:16:59 isdsyddev13 last message repeated 25903 times
syslog tail spins and chews up close to 100% of the cpu. The only way to recover the primary domain is to reboot it (and in some cases power cycle). On the system console I also see the following..
message overflow on /dev/log minor #6 -- is syslogd(1M) running?
NOTICE: spc_getpage called for character device. Check any non-ON onsolidation drivers
A guest ldom config that contains use a zfs volume which kills things when you run bind-domain below..

There is only one service domain (primary) and it runs the only virtual disk service. Entries for the above vdisks on the primary-vds0 are...

subset of zfs output below. The os boot files are clones of a snapshot.

Note that if I remove vdisk1 from the guest domain, bind-domain works fine, no issues. So this is an issue just with the zfs volumes used as virtual disks. I also created a new zfs volume, added it to the primary-vds0 and the guest domain. However on bind-domain, same error/issue.

Problems with Solaris Web Console on Solaris 10 x86
I recently installed Solaris 10 x86 (10/08 release) on a Sun x4450.
I have installed the Jan 14, 2009 patch cluster.
I was having some problems connecting to the Web Console to do some ZFS administration. That's when I installed the patch cluster.
After the patch cluster install I couldn't connect at all. This problem was resolved here: http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5249136
Now when I login to the Web Console I get a message that says:
"+No application is registered with this Sun Java(TM) Web Console, or you have no rights to use any applications that are registered. See your system administrator for assistance.+"
I'm logging in as root, so it shouldn't be a rights issue.Quick Solution to the problem you are facing
How to configure ZFS Webconsole Administration
run this command
wcadmin deploy -a zfs -z zfs /usr/share/webconsole/webapps/zfs
you should be able to see & Manage ZFS in Applications area of webconsole.
Enjoy ! Cheers -
Webconsole does not display ZFS after patching
I patched my server with smpatch and after the reboot was not able to see the zfs adminstration in the webconsole. No applications registered.
After searching I found how to register the app but not sure why this is broken.
wcadmin list -a did not show zfs
wcadmin deploy -a console -x zfs /usr/share/webconsole/webapps/zfs
now it does.
This server is from a fresh install and had nothing attached or installed other than the latest patch cluster.The file "zfs.reg" is put in an incorrect location so OS upgrade removes the file. You are on the right track to redeploy the application by the wcadmin deploy command. Now if you still cannot log in to the console, or see a JVM crash after clicking into the ZFS GUI, follow this:
==================================================================================================================
First, S10u6 has a different security setting when the server communicates to the outside world.
Run this:
# svccfg -s svc:/system/webconsole setprop options/tcp_listen=true; smcwebserver restart
Now log on to the console: https://<server_name>:6789
Now you should be able to see the GUI. Install this patch if you see a JVM crash. This will happen if you have at least one zpool configured in the system. Thus, it also happens to servers that use ZFS as their root file system.
For S10 - SPARC,
http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-21-141104-01-1&searchclause=141104
For S10 - x86,
http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-21-141105-01-1&searchclause=141105
Run "patchadd" to install the patch. Make sure you restart the web console by running "smcwebserver restart". -
Webconsole with ZFS does not work
Hi,
if I try to open the zfs GUI in the webconsole , the smcwebserver dumps a java error and restarts itself.
what can be the reason for this behaviour?
the head of the dump-log file looks like
# An unexpected error has been detected by HotSpot Virtual Machine:
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0xfeae30c0, pid=4767, tid=27
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (1.5.0_07-b03 mixed mode)

Thanks for your help and cheers, MichaelFirst, S10u6 has a different security setting when the server communicates to the outside world.
Run this:
# svccfg -s svc:/system/webconsole setprop options/tcp_listen=true; smcwebserver restart
Now log on to the console: https://<server_name>:6789
If you do not see the ZFS Administration GUI showing there, do this:
# wcadmin deploy -a zfs -x zfs /usr/share/webconsole/webapps/zfs ; smcwebserver restart
Now you should be able to see the GUI. Install this patch if you see a JVM crash. This will happen if you have at least one zpool configured in the system. Thus, it also happens to servers that use ZFS as their root file system.
For S10 - SPARC,
http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-21-141104-01-1&searchclause=141104
For S10 - x86,
http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-21-141105-01-1&searchclause=141105
Run "patchadd" to install the patch. Make sure you restart the web console by running "smcwebserver restart". -
ok so Apple removed zfs from any doco regarding 10.6 some time ago but didn't complain or warn that I had the read/write kext installed on upgrade, no big deal, I go to reinstall the read/write and the system seems to accept it (I can load the kernel module) but when I attach disk I get a neat little warning that though a ZFS formatted disk is present and its data is intact it is not able to be mounted.
Anyone else see this? a simple warning would have allowed me the chance to migrate or simple not install this but now I am faced with having to back out to 10.5 to recover 1TB of iTunes data.
help? even allowing read only would have been nice but this is just not cool.Read only support was in 10.5, read/write was experimental and a call to support on this proved to me more than useless, three escalations and a consult with the server group about this strange word 'RAID' and I decided to try to force import the storage pools (as I could see the kernel module loaded) it works, looks like the upgrade 'cleaned' /etc/zfs/ and its association with this pool. We will most likely never know why ZFS isn't cool enough for the Apple brain trust but having used it in an enterprise setting for quite some time I wouldn't trust my data anywhere else; I have lost more to HFS/HFS+ than I have to 'experimental' ZFS. thanks for the reply just the same.

ZFS root problem after iscsi target experiment
Hello all.
I need help with this situation... I've installed solaris 10u6, patched, created branded full zone. Everything went well until I started to experiment with iSCSI target according to this document: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5093/fmvcd?l=en&a=view&q=iscsi
After setting up iscsi discovery address of my iscsi target solaris hung up and the only way was to send break from service console. Then I got these messages during boot

thanks in advance,
BerroschOK, i've tryied to install s10u6 to default rpool and move root user to /rpool directory (which it is nonsense of course, it was just for this testing purposes) and everything went OK.
Another experiment was with rootpool name 'root' and root user in /root, everything went OK as well.
Next try was with rootpool 'root', root user in /root, enabling iscsi initiator:
# svcs -a |grep iscsi
disabled 16:31:07 svc:/network/iscsi_initiator:default
# svcadm enable iscsi_initiator
# svcs -a |grep iscsi
online 16:34:11 svc:/network/iscsi_initiator:default
and voila! the problem is here...

Seems to be a bug in iscsi implementation, some quotas of 'root' in source code or something like it...

Zfs kstats changed in Solaris 11 - breaks arcstat
I maintain the arcstat tool here:
[https://github.com/mharsch/arcstat]
I've identified some changes in zfs kstats that have broken this tool for Solaris 11 users. My analysis of the issue is here:
[https://github.com/mharsch/arcstat/issues/4]
Would someone from the ZFS team be willing to work with me to reconcile the kstat changes so users of the arcstat tool can get running on Solaris 11?
The easiest engagement would be in the form of a github pull request, but I'll take anything I can get.

Webconsole - menu only for root
Hi,
I can only log into my webconsole with root. If I use another user the webconsole permits to log in but no applications (ZFS, Sun Cluster, ...) are available.
Solaris 10 u6 (Generic_138888-03)
Sun CLuster 3.2 u2
Regards,
MIkeSome applications only allow you to administer if you log in as root. It all depends on the application itself. Check the document of the ones you feel you can log in as a non-root user.

Hi there.
I'm receiving posts from my solaris box reporting a broken cron that runs every night. It does a backup of a specific directory to another replica server. This has always ran ok until recently and i can't figure it out. Any help please?

We have embarked on implementing SAP WebConsole in our main distribution centres using Intermec RF devices. Following our testing we have an issue when logging off SAP WebConsole were we recieve an error of "connection broken". This same condition is experienced when using Internet Explorer. The detailed information from explorer is as follows;
<html>
<head>
<title>SAPConsole Offline Page</title>
</head>
<body>
<b>Connection broken</b>
</body>
</html>
I appreciate that this may be standard behaviour when using this functionality, however, logic states that this is simply a logging out procedure therefore there should be no "error" condition experienced by the business.
Is there a way that when logging out of SAP WebConsole we can redirect the page with the default SAP WebConsole logon page and eliminate the "Connection Broken Error"
Any assistance would be appreciated, we are using SAPWEBCONSOLE 6.40, currently SAPGUI 6.40 patch level 17No, absolutly not. I did nothing with j2ee when I install with SAPconsole/Webconsole. Also, I helped someone in the ABAP forum a couple weeks ago with this, and I told him to skip that part in the instructions, he got it working.
I have mine setup to run with IIS.

Webconsole - shows nothing about cluster
Hello,
This is 2 node solaris 10 cluster.
After changing the Service properties tcp_listen = true, I am able to access the 6789 port from other machine's browser (https://ip:6789)
Now funny thing is when I click on Manage Sun Cluster application, it takes me to a page where it does not show any information, no status, blank frames.
I'm uploading screen-shot here :http://i38.tinypic.com/2eol9o0.jpgI have tried from both the nodes, it does not work. What does work is zfs configuration. It shows status of pools and a lot of other information and seems like I can use it in future.
Can anyone help me with Cluster Management with webconsole? Btw, cluster is working fine, verified with scstat (-g)..
Please help,
Thanks.

Thanks
Btw, is there a way I will be able to restrict port 6789 to a particular IP in the network? I'm only using
TCPwrappers and don't believe it is going to help here anyway.
