ZFS (ZEVO) formatted drive can't be used as event/project drive

Started using Zevo ZFS recently and notices that a ZFS formatted drive doesn't show up in drive list where the events and projects are. Same disk worked before when it was HFS+ formatted. Would be great if FCPX would also support other filesystems. Exporting and inporting is fine, it's just that the ZFS drive is not shown in the event/project list.
Regards,
Peter

This is true of many of the Apple applications which are designed to make use of features of HFS+. So the use of them on other file ssytems as you have discovered is either not possible or thy fail to function fully.

If it has been wiped clean then you will not be able to locate it, it will be essentially a new iPhone.

  • HT1338 If I have OS 7.5 installed on an external drive, can I start up from the external drive in that OS when my macbook pro is 10.7?

If I have OS 10.6 installed on an external drive, can I start up from the external drive if I have 10.7 installed on my macbook pro?

Provided that the MBP supports booting from that version of 10.6, and the install was from a retail disk (not a different Mac model), then yes. If it's a newer Pro that came with Lion, it may not boot to 10.6.

  • If I have a Mac Mini ( no Disk Drive ) Can I Still Use Boot Camp ?

Hi, I have a ma mini... but i have came to a conclusion that I have no disk drive... so can i still use bootcamp ? I was wondering because all of the tutorials I watch, they tell me to insert my disk into the disk drive.
    -Thanks for The Help

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you have a Mac mini without a built-in SuperDrive, you have two ways to install Windows on your Mac using Boot Camp:
    - If you have Windows in a ISO file > open Boot Camp Assistant, tick the option to create a Windows installation USB drive and follow the steps.
    - If you have Windows in a DVD > buy an external optical drive, connect it to your computer, open Boot Camp Assistant and follow the steps to install Windows.
Don't forget to download Windows support software, and install it just after finishing the Windows installation.
If you need help installing Windows, print this file > http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf

  • HT201250 If using Time Machine with an external drive, can I just use it occasionally for back up, say once per week and have it disconnected in between backups?

When using TM with an external drive, can I connect and use it occasionally for backup and disconnect it between backups, say one backup per week?  Or does it need to be connected all the time when the computer is on?

TimeMachine works better if it's nearly always connected.
For addtional backup like what your needing, consider a bootable clone in addition to TM.

  • Can I restore using an external DVD drive?

Hey everyone, I've got a unibody MacbookPro with a broken internal disc drive.
My roommate has a new external USB super drive. Can I reinstall my OS using his external CD drive? Or will I need to make a DMG of my original install disc and do it that way?

As far as I am aware you should be able to reinstall your system software without any issues using your roommates external disc drive.

  • Can itunes run from a personal cloud drive, can itunes run from a personal cloud drive

can itunes run from a personal cloud drive?   I currently have my Itunes  media files stored on an external drive because it is over 1.5GB with movies.  Does anyone have experience with a WD My Book Live wireles cloud storage device?    I would love to not to have to always be in the same room as my storage device
    Thanks

It will work if it's used as a network drive which contains your iTunes library in the same way your external does now. Although it will demand more from your network than your current configuration does but shouldn't be a problem if your network is working correctly.

  • New drive -  can i not use on mac and windows?

A year ago i bought a usb 2 wd external drive which i formatted on windows so that i could use it on both mac and osx - No probs.
I now have a seagate 750gb firewire 400 drive (thats formatted to NT) i want to do the same as i did with the usb2 0 ie format on windows so that i can use on mac and xp.
In the seagate manual it says that swapping data between windows and osx is BAD and YOU WILL LOSE DATA if you do this (it says i need madrive - but what if i want to get data of a college drive, or someone who doesnt want macdrive installed?)- is this manual statement true? i havent lost any data between my usb2 drive in the year ive had it!
Also, formatting the seagate drive to ms-dos file system on mac - this makes it mac only doesnt it?

    Hi,
I do the same with my two WD externals.
You would need MacDrive if you want to use the NTFS (NT filse system) with the Seagate.
But if you choose FAT32 (that's what OSX calls MS-DOS) you don't need any kind of extra software to access (read/write) it from both Mac and PC.
One minor issue with FAT32 (MS-DOS) is, that the file size of a single file is limited to 4GB.

  • How much Ram can my Macbook use?  What Hard drive should I upgrade to?

    Hi Everyone.
I have a 2008 ish macBook with 4gb of Ram.  I use vmware Fusion to run Windows every day and I also use Aperture on a regular basis.
I'm looking to breath some life into this old machine and want to know how much ram the motherboard will support.  Here are the machine's specs.
    Hardware Overview:
      Model Name:          MacBook
      Model Identifier:          MacBook4,1
Processor Name:          Intel Core 2 Duo
      Processor Speed:          2.4 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          2
      L2 Cache:          3 MB
      Memory:          4 GB
      Bus Speed:          800 MHz
      Boot ROM Version:          MB41.00C1.B00
How muck Ram will the machine support?
My Hard drive is also nearly full and I would like to upgrade to a 500gb drive.  Any suggestions on which drive to choose?
    Thanks!!

You can install up to 6 GBs of RAM. There are any number of good choices for a hard drive replacement. I suggest visiting OWC for information on pricing, makes, and models. They also provide video tutorials on how to replace a drive in MacBooks.
To prepare for the upcoming release of Lion I also suggest spending $29 to buy a Snow Leopard DVD and upgrade your OS.

  • The audio file 'example' has a 0 bit format and can't be used. What do I do

I get quite a lot of these messages when trying to sample loops and use them, but only certain ones for some reason. I don't know how this could have started to occur and nothing that I tried in any audio settings seems to work. I tried searching for any topics with a similar problem but I can't find any. What can I do to get these loops working again? How do I fix this bit format?

    Try this:
download Switch form here http://www.nch.com.au/switch/plus.html (it's free, you have to pay only for the plus version, if you like).
Open the file inside the Switch and convert to another format (like wav, aiff or mp3 too).
Try again to import the file in Logic.
    cheers

  • Error message: "The audio file ___.caf has a 0 bit format and can't be used

I keep getting this error message for a bunch of the audio files in Garage Band 3 that I am trying to use. What can I do to access these files?

You need to use GarageBand 4 to open them. GarageBand 3 doesn't recognize that format.

  • Can I run use the traditional NIDAQ Driver with PCI-6259 M

I'm trying to run the Matlab signal processing toolox with my PCI-6259 M series DAQ card. I know that
I can't use the DAQmx driver and Matlab signal processing toolbox together. NI is obviously in competition with
Mathworks b/c there aren't any mathworks products listed although VB are listed. Is there a way I can use the traditional NI-DAQ driver with my card. Yes, I've read the discussion about using the NI commands in Matlab using a the dll. I have signal processing toolbox and I want to use it b/c it's a lot easier.
    Thanks

    nsm...
Unfortunately the answer is no, you can't use the 6259 with Traditional DAQ. It is only supported in DAQmx

  • Internal hard drive- can it be used as an external hard drive???

Well, this may be ranked right up there with dumb stupid questions but I have to ask. My sons both have iMacs- one has a new 80G internal hard drive. The other has the original one (600mhz iMac). I have the 20G internal one that was removed from iMac #1- is there any way that can be set up for iMac #2 as an external drive? I don't believe there is anything wrong with it and iMac#2 user would like to have more hard drive space...... Thanks for any help with this! Judy

    mrstee,
Before I upgraded my iMac, I went looking for an external 3.5" enclosure. I went to BestBuy and then CompUSA. There are more choices at CompUSA, and yet, I left CompUSA empty handed because their choices were 1) clunky looking, 2) pricey, and 3) the specifications on the enclosures left me wondering about their (intended) compatibility with OS X.
I purchased my external 3.5" enclosure from CDW/MacWarehouse. It is a Macally PHR-100AF (strictly firewire) enclosure. They also have the PHR-100A (strictly USB 2.0), and PHR-100AC (USB 2.0 and Firewire 400). Mine was $48 + shipping. Macally shows these offered at CircuitCity, CostCo, and Fry's.
Positives: Aesthetic appearance. Simple transplant of internal drive to external enclosure without jumper change. Only two screws and ten minute task. Very fast and simple solution. Works perfectly with OS9 and OS X (10.4.3). Atractive price. Positive online reviews.

    Negatives: None.

I have no financial interest in Macally.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I tell which drive I am currently using...muptiple drives.

I am very new to Mac and multiple drives. I have 2 internal drives - one is a bootable partition ( a Sandbox or safe clone ) - made with Super Duper that shows up on my desktop as a seperate Drive. So, I have 3 drives mounted - is there any way to tell which one I am working in at any given time - they all pretty much look the same since I use them to update each other.

I looked in About this Mac - under Serial-ATA.
There is something called a BSD name...is this what
you are talking about? If the one I'm booted from
is always on top of the line up on my desktop, I
guess that would be the most obvious way to tell. I
just want some foolproof way to avoid making
mistakes when I backup from one to the other.
You're looking in System Profiler. You only need "About This Mac" from the Apple (top left corner of the screen) menu.
In the "About This Mac" window, don't click "More Info....".
Just above the "More Info..." button it should display "Startup Disk".

  • Can iPhone be used as a target drive like iPod for.....

    Thanks for looking
I'd love the ability to have iPhone be used as a target disk for storage of small files but more importantly to, via USB, download my Digital images from my camera.
So, can I use the usb to download from the camera?
Asking too much would be having the iPhone's app put a album togeather when you download jpg's etc... but I could really use the storage of images etc...
    Thanks

The iPhone does not support disk mode.
The only way to transfer data to and from the iPhone is via a USB connection to your Mac. You can import photos taken by the iPhone to iPhoto just as with a digital camera and you can transfer photos (select photo albums) from iPhoto to the iPhone.
