Blue screen/Computer shuts down is almost always a hardware malfunction or a driver problem.

What camera model took the pictures?  It is a question of when your camera was added for support. Check the following list and find your model. That will tell you what is required to work with your files.

  • Lightroom 2.1 / Camera Raw 5.1 Confusion

    Hello,
I installed Lightroom 2.1 and when I go to the About menu it shows me correctly, that I have 2.1 but it still says: Camera Raw 4.6.
I have Photoshop CS3 and when I tried its automatic update option it did not find the newest Camera Raw 5.1.
    I installed it manually.
But Lightroom still says: Camera Raw 4.6.
Do I have it or do I not??
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

"You are going to send JAO into cardiac arrest. Could you just this once; TRUST what he is saying. It is a simple concept, maybe to simple for you to under stand."
It's a pity that asking a fairly reasonable question here prompts such a patronising reply!
"Maybe we should try this tack.
THERE is no ACR in LR:::: None, never was, never will be.
LR uses the pipeline that was developed for ACR and THATS all.
That curent pipeline version is 4.6"
Never said there was, simply asked about the confusion that is the statement in LR and how it relates to PS ACR, i.e. in 'About PS LR' it says 'Camera Raw 4.6'. Now, if you can't see how that causes confusion for users of the 'other' Camera Raw 4.6, then I think it's me who's going to have a cardiac arrest. I think most people would find that totally confusing.
"NO ACR in LR. Repeat there is no ACR in LR."
No, but there are statements about Camera Raw versions and there is a cameraraw.dll in the LR folder.
"Users of PS 3 cannot not use version 5.1"
There is no confusion about that.
"PS CS 4 uses versions 5.0 and above. Always will."
No, it probably won't use version 6.0.
Many people have posted on various forums about the confusion over Camera Raw in LR, so it isn't obvious. The fact is that although LR doesn't actually use an ACR plugin, there has been an assumption by many users that it does use the same engine as ACR, and the fact that it states a Camera Raw version number within the software adds to that reasonable assumption.
Up to CS4 the Camera Raw version in LR has been consistent with the latest CS3 ACR version which also adds to the confusion.
I think one of the main concerns that some users have is that LR will not continue to support newer cameras. I mean for example, when the 5D MkII is incorporated into ACR version 5.x, will LR Camera Raw version be shown as 4.7 or will it revert to consistency and call it 5.x?

  • Package of Lightroom 5 and Camera Raw 8 ?

I heard that the Camera Raw 8 is supported the RAW file of some aged Leaf Digital Back, is that mean if I buy a Lightroom 5, the Camera Raw 8 is included in the package?

Camera Raw technology is built in to Lightroom. Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in. Everything that Camera Raw is capable of doing is part of the Lightroom program. So if you look at the list of supported cameras for the current version of Camera Raw or Lightroom you will see the list of cameras that are supported by either Camera Raw or Lightroom.

  • Can I upgrade my Lightroom 3.6/Camera Raw 6.6 version to the latest 5.2 version?

Can I upgrade my Lightroom 3.6/Camera Raw 6.6 version to the latest 5.2 version?

“Camera Raw” is the name of Adobe’s photo-processing engine that supports raw files.  The phrase commonly refers to the Camera Raw plug-in for Photoshop; however, less often, it merely refers to the version of the Adobe engine whether it is that of the plug-in or in LR, itself.  Unless you are talking about Photoshop then just say LR 3.6 and there’s no need to also say Camera Raw, because that will be confusing to people who are also familiar with Photoshop.
If you are interested in buying LR, then go to Adobe’s Updates page and download the LR 5.2 update and use it in Trial mode for a while to make sure it works correctly on your particular computer, then you can go buy LR from Adobe.com and input the serial number you get into the trial LR but there’s no need to download and install the LR 5.0 version because that’ll be older than the 5.2 update you’re already using.

  • Lightroom warning about Camera Raw update I already have

When trying to open a RAW picture into Photoshop from Lightroom 2.2, it is giving me the following warning:
This version of Lightoom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 5.2 for full compatibility. Please update the Camera Raw plug-in using the update tool available in the Photoshop help menu.
Thing is, I've already installed Camera Raw 5.2. If I open up the About Lightroom window, it tells me that I'm using Camera Raw 5.2.
Do I need to put a copy of the Camera Raw plugin somewhere else than where it is?
    I'm using Lightroom 2.2, Photoshop CS4 Extended, on a MacPro w/ Leopard 10.5.6.

The version of ACR indicated in LR's help/about is the version of the RAW engine internal to LR, and not the version of ACR you actually have installed for Photoshop.
What does CS4 / Help / About Plug-ins / Camera RAW say the version is? And are there two versions of Camera RAW listed in the About Plug-ins.
Maybe there are multiple versions of ACR installed and LR is finding an old one, or perhaps LR is opening a file that was originally opened in a prior version of ACR/LR and LR can tell this by looking at the XMP or the LR database so is warning it may not be compatible even though it probably wouldn't matter. I don't have a Mac nor CS4, yet, so can only guess.

  • Lightroom 3.6 camera raw 6.6: pictures destroyed

    Dear Support-Team,
I am using a Canon Rebel T3i and have problems while importing my raw-pictures into my lightroom 3.6
In the importing window - all pictures look great and good. As soon as they are imported, some of them get destroyed (half of the picture that shows a lot of stripes) and you can't indentify the picture anymore. Is the camera raw version of my canon not supported with this lightroom version? How could I solve this problem? It is not a problem of my SD-card - since it happens to all my cards and pictures are shown the right way before really importing them. Also: not all the pictures get destroyed while importing.
    Thanks,
    Corinnafe

Thanks a lot for your answers. The problem happens after importing into the libary and exists afterwards also in the developing tool. I don't think it's a cable or USB port problem, since I can see how the image has to look like before and while importing. So - the original data is probably not damaged. I also tried it already with the DNG converter. Unfortunately this didn't work either.
I am using LR just for a couple of months now. I had no problems at all at the beginning. But by now, more and more pictures turn out to be damaged... And I didn't change any settings in LR...

  • Lightroom using Adobe Camera Raw Cache

Just noticed I have a lot of large files accumlating in C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache.
Is this normal? Should it clean out automatically (does not seem to be) or can the size be limited?
    Appreciate any insight.
    ~Bob

    Hi Bob,
SIze limit on the camera Raw cache file is controlled in the FIle Handling tab of the Lightroom Preferences (Lightroom|preferences). The default setting for LR 2.0 is 1 GB. BE aware that this setting is also controlled by any other Adobe application that supports Camera Raw (Photoshop CS3, Bridge, etc.). So, if it is changed to 4 GB in Bridge, it is 4 GB in LR. It is a cache used by the Camera Raw and it speeds up Camera Raw applications. When you have finished, you can purge the cache at any time by pressing the Purge Button in the same section that contains the maximum cache size.

  • Problem going from Lightroom 3 to Camera Raw 4.1

I edit in LR3 then export to the original folder. When I open the edited photo in Camera Raw it is completely different. Not only is it different but it looks terrible. I'm making sure that when I export it from Lightroom that I have the correct version of Camera Raw chosen so I'm not sure what the issue is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Lightroom 3 is using the equivalent of ACR 6.x so ACR 4.1 cannot use the develop settings from that version of LR.
Lightroom 1 is fully compatible with PS CS3 ACR 4.x

  • Curious question about Lightroom previews and Camera Raw Cache

Posted in the Flickr Lightroom Group as well:
I have noticed something about the Lightroom (3.6) previews and Camera Raw cache that have me puzzled.
I create a brand new empty catalog and purge the Camera Raw Cache.
Then I import ONE Nikon RAW (NEF) file with dimensions 2592 x 3872 (10 megapixels - 10,036,224 pixels).
Next I export that NEF file to an uncompressed 8-bit TIFF file. You would expect the size of that TIFF file to be roughly 30 megabytes (10 megapixels x 3 bytes per RGB value) and in fact the TIFF file is 30,135,830 bytes in size. If you export the same TIFF file but specify ZIP compression the resulting file size is 10,834,038 bytes. Obviously the compression obtained here is going to be highly specific to the image but so far no surprises.
During import I specify render 1:1 previews and I go into Loupe mode and view the entire image at 1:1 size. I also visit the develop module and do a bunch of manipulations on the image but no cropping.
At the conclusion of all of that I exit from Lightroom and examine the size of the Camera Raw Cache folder as well as the Lightroom previews folder. It would be my expectation that the previews folder  should have a rendered full image and that the Camera Raw Cache should also have a rendered form of the raw data. What would you expect the size of those respective folders to be?
In fact - in my trials the previews folder totals a mere 1,675,264 bytes and the Camera Raw Cache which contains one DAT file corresponding to the one cached image is merely 267,374 bytes. This does not seem like nearly enough bits to preserve the rendered image nor is there a full size image tucked away in the actual catalog either - that file is not large enough to contain that. And yet I can use Loupe mode at 1:1 size and move from image to image with no loading delays (even when importing multiple files).
I'm wondering if I've missed something obvious in my analysis and if not, whether someone might care to speculate as to what magic Adobe is practicing here. Even if we grant them some special algorithm to compress their previews I don't see how they can achieve a compression so much greater than the ZIP-compressed TIFF file achieves.
And for those that might think to ask - I've repeated these experiments with multiple raw images and on both the PC and MAC platforms.
I look forward to some answers or interesting theories or perhaps someone might replicate the experiment and report findings.

MadMan and Hal - thanks so much.
So that was my D'Oh moment of what I was missing - the use of re-rendered JPGS as previews. That certainly does fit with the file sizes I am seeing. I had naively assumed that the previews might have tried to preserve the full fidelity of the image - But as you suggest that full fidelity is likely only there in the develop module.
This perhaps explains another observation from the Develop module - moving from one image to another might display "Loading" either briefly or across a longer duration. My guess is that the length of the loading process might have to do more with what is cached in RAM than cached on disk in the camera raw cache. More of a shame then that 64-bit Lightroom on 64-Bit Windows cannot grab more RAM than it seems to do at present.

  • Brown splotches on image in Lightroom but not Camera RAW?

I'm using Lightroom 4.1 and Photoshop Camera RAW from CS5 version 6.6
In Lightroom I'm getting some brown splotches on the faces of the groomsmen to the right.  These splotches while less noticeable also appear on the bride and groom.
Process the same RAW file in Camera RAW and there are no brown splotches anywhere on the photos.
Any thoughts on how I can get rid of this anomaly in Lightroom?
See attached photo.  Lightroom file on top and camera raw file on the bottom.

That catches most at some time!!!

  • CS5 and Lightroom 4-different camera raw versions

Lightroom 4 has a camer raw version 7 and my CS5 has 6.7? Trying to figure out the easiest way to get them both to be 6.6 which appears to be the latest versions and I have no idea how I got the versions I have. When converting from lightroom to CS5 the photo don't look the same and I assume this is the reason why. So, what do I need to delete to get these versions the same?

The ACR 6.7 is a beta which should be superceeded by the final relase soon. In terms of LR4 yes it's based on ACR 7 from the upcoming Photoshop CS6 (whose beta is out) but there is no way to back LR4's version down...
When opening from LR4 into Photoshop CS5 you should select the option to Render in Lightroom. That will have LR4 correctly render the image into Photoshop.

  • Lightroom Photoshop and Camera Raw Converter

    Hi,
I use Adobe creativ Cloud with Lightroom 5 and PS CC CS6. And I installed Topaz Adjust as a Plugin. On my Computer is Windows 8.1, 64 Bit installed,
I tryd to open a Photo *.CR2 in order to develop it with the Camera Raw Converter from PS CS6, but the converter does not start, it opens only PS CS6
Can any body help me with this Problem?
    Thanks a lot,
    Trusty

The support for that camera was added in the very latest release of Lightroom, version 5.7.1. Having downloaded Camera Raw 8.7.1 will have no effect on Lightroom because Lightroom doesn't use the Camera Raw plug-in. You need to make sure you have updated Lightroom to the very latest release in order to have support for that camera.

  • Can Lightroom import/use Camera Raw saved settings from Photoshop CS2?

Before getting LR, I used CS2. I would load my CR2 files from my cam into CS2 and Camera Raw would pop up for raw editing. I would edit the photos, but sometimes save the settings to a XMP file. Those files would then be available for any raw photo, i just had to select that setting.
Is there any way to import those saved settings files into LR? There's just text in them, what about importing the text somewhere? I dunno... I really want to use these settings files in LR!!
Also, If I change things to a photo in LR, does it have a similar save-the-edit feature like camera raw?
    Thanks!!
    -Ziv

If you import images with those side car files, you'll get those settings automatically. If you've already imported the images without the side cars somehow, you can put the side cars back and do read metadata from files.
