ZIF Connector Issue

Hi,
I have a late 2008 macbook pro 2.0 ghz, which I'm aware did not originally come with a backlight. My Macbook, unfortunately, was in the 15% that didn't come with the necessary connector to support a backlight. Essentilally, I need to know the name and size of the connector so that I may solder it to my logic board. Can anyone help me with this?

Ok....
Go to powerbookmedic.com and order your keyboard from them - you can get a used one.
On the dropdown menus - select the 2.4GHz Macbook Unibody since that's the one that came with backlighting on their keyboards.
From there - you can also pick and choose which parts you want to buy.  You can buy new or used parts.
Ifixit.com also sells these parts but they only sell new ones which is more expensive.
Good luck - and i hope you get it working so you can be one of the few with a 2GHz Macbook Uni with a backlit keyboard.
Let us know when you get it up and running.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Where can I find a ZIF connector for a DV7T-6c00?

    Hello,
I recently had a problem where the cooling fan wasn't functioning properly in my DV7T-6c00 Laptop.  When I was trying to replace it, I broke the ZIF connector which holds the keyboard in place.  I have no idea where to find one - I tried searching Ebay, and called the geek squad and nobody has one for my laptop.  My computer isn't in warranty anymore, so HP won't be any help.  Is there a list of HP authorized service centers somewhere?  All of the numbers for ones in my area on google that I called aren't in service anymore.  Any help would be appreciated.

This is a common problem and question and there is just not any good news to give. The zif connector is not a separate part. A broken zif connector means a replacement motherboard. The only remotely workable solution I know of is to find a "parts" motherboard on eBay or find a vendor who sells parts motherboards and sometimes you can call them and ask them to send you the zif connector.
Here is an example. I know this is not your board but the zif connector for all the dv7-6xxx series, if not all the dv7 series entirely, should be the same since the keyboard ribbons are the same.

  • G60 (WA573UA) - Zif Connector for Power Button ribbon connector

Anyone know the best place to find a zif connector for a G60 (WA573UA) laptop that connects the power/wireless button rubbon to the system board?  I can post a picture if needed.

There is really not a market for them. The best way is to find a parts motherboard on ebay.

  • Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector

I have an HP Mini 1030nr.  Want to replace the keyboard.  The instructions say Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector.
Dont know how.  Another posr  for a different computers said something about releasing the side tabs.  Please I need help

This one is tough. It actually hinges up and you have to pop it loose and let it come up so you can get the ribbon cable out. The zif connector is very fragile. Try not to completely remove it just hinge it up lifting the back of it and leave the front in place.

Look carefully on video 2. The tech pops the zif cable up and you can see it in the hinged open position while he is doing other stuff.

  • TX2 1020ea Laptop ZIF Connector - How Does It Open?

    Hi,
I have a HP Touchsmart TX2 1020ea laptop which is currently in pieces. I've stripped everything down as per the HP service manual but am having trouble with a ZIF connector that connects the audio board housing the earphone and microphone sockets to the motherboard. HP refer to it as a ZIF but is not like the traditional type with the bar that presses down on the cable. All the other ZIF connectors in the PC have opened with no problem. The one I'm having problems with is different in that in addition to the cable going into the connector, there is also a plastic tag sticking out. There is no easily identifiable moving part to the ZIF. Now, tempting as it may be to use the plastic tab as a grip just to pull out the cable, I also need to be able to reinsert it when putting the PC back together.
So does anybody know how this particular ZIF works please? Some photos are attached.
    Thanks.
    This question was solved.

Thanks for the reply. I have been tempted to do that but figured that it would be difficult to re-insert on reassembly.Any advice?  Any ideas why HP would have one different connector design compared to the other ones in the PC?
    Thanks.

  • Model: NB103UA  HP Pavilion dv5-1250us NB PC US / Part needed: zero insertion force (ZIF) connector

Having trouble locating part needed for HP Pavilion dv5  :
Zero insertion force (ZIF) connector clip which holds the keyboard ribbon cable in the slot located on motherboard. It holds pressure down on the ribbon allowing the keyboard to function. I cannot find this part anywhere and most used computers already have them removed.
Anyone out there know where I can obtain one or more of these clips?
    Thanks
    Dave Rush

HP does not sell this part separate from the motherboard, not sure where you can get one, maybe from a donar notebook someone is scrapping out. Inquire at some local notebook repair shops in your area.

  • Dtm4 Keyboard Zif connector

I need to identify the zif connector for my dmt4 keyboard.  I broke the black locking tab and need to buy a replacement connector so I can use the locking tab.  Evidently there are diffeent types of zip connectors.

That is what I am trying to tell you. That information is not available. HP has the whole motherboard fabricated in China and there is no record available about there the assembler buys the components. Maybe you can find a picture of the motherboard and try to tell by looking what kind it is. Here is an eBay auction with a motherboard and a fairly large image so you can see the zif connector. It is on the image on the right: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-DM4-HD5450-1GB-Intel-Laptop-Motherboard-s989-6050A2314301-MB-A04-616244-001-/140966376531 Closeup of the keyboard ribbon: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=hp+dm4+keyboard+ribbon+cable+pins&view=detailv2&&id=8AD1CD9E136872E0E9BDD3E53D0248083E5CE170&selectedIndex=0&ccid=u5R%2bkYbm&simid=607991697011903328&thid=JN.qFN44wpOBqpC4xyRSeiHhA&ajaxhist=0 32 pins? Good luck

  • Keyboard ZIF connector on G60-235DX

The end clips on the ZIF connector are missing; so how do you secure the connector to the cable and the board?  I still have the remaining part of the plastic connecor.,

Okay, I've found some helpful links for other's in the same dilemma.
Start with this one for how to fix the curse of the zif connector:
    http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2009/11/17/fix-broken-keyboard-connector-on-laptop-motherboard...
Note: If you look closely at your connector, you will see that there are two (2) rows of pins. The ribbon cable goes between them. I also, since the ribbon cable is very short (grrr), positioned the cable and then taped it in place. placing the tape as far back on the cable as allowed, so that I could have easy and free access to the connector. Also, the cable on the keyboard side is attached with an elastic glue. I GENTLY pulled the cable off of the the keyboard metal backing a LITTLE bit. This gave me more slack to work with.
And for those who are thinking of doing it themselves, go here first:
    http://www.insidemylaptop.com/replace-keyboard-in-hp-mini-1033cl-notebook/
Above is is not for the dv7, but pay attention to the part where the removal/opening of the zif connector is discussed. It may save you some aggravation.
The alternative is to have HP tech do it for between $250-$350. OUCH!

  • ZIF connector for Keyboard ribbon cable.

Anyone have success for locating replacement ZIF connectors for motherboard on dv8?

HC-Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, while replacing the keyboard on this dv8 (fading keys), I broke the locking tab. Hopefully I've not jimmied the socket also. I'll take a look at the Ebay listings. Thanks again.

I have run into this problem before with a number of members here and you will have to get a defective motherboard to salvage the locking tab, this is assuming the locking tab is the part that has broken or went missing.
A "parts" HDX18 motherboard locking tab will work and it is more likely you will find one on ebay then one for a dv8.

  • Help with Keyboard-Motherboard ZIF Connector

I have a 1033CL Mini - I replaced the hard drive and in the process broke most of the motherboard-keyboard zif connector -
I am able to put the cable back in and close is with about half of the damaged zif but only abpout half of the keys work now -
I hate to have to buy a new motherboard to fix this problem -
    Any ideas?Thanks

The only fix I have ever seen is to epoxy the ribbon cable in there...apply some type of pressure while the cement dries...not a certain fix but you can't hurt anything trying it. You are likely going to need a new board and I hate to use you as an example but it illustrates why you should not casually try to repair a laptop. Even an experienced tech is one slip of the screwdriver away from a boat anchor. Think back to the old phrase frm WWII and gas rationing..."is this (repair) really necessary?"

  • Need help reassembling Touchpad ZIF connector!!

My model is dv6871us and lately it has been having trouble with overheating. I researched a lot over a period of 2 months and took my laptop to various techs who wanted too much just to clean the laptop from the inside. It was definitely determined that the fan was clogged with debri. Simply gassing the vents did not solve the issue so I learned that the only way to really get to the heat/sink is a complete disassemble (bad design tsk tsk HP.....).
So, I don't have the cash to pay a tech and decided to do it on my own. I opened my model's PDF manual and went for it. Meticulously unscrewing and cracking part by part. I was successful in cleaning it very thoroughly, but now I'm stuck on the cover in attempting to reassemble the laptop. I am having trouble with the touchpad's delicate little strip connector. I was able to remove it, but I can't insert it back in again. Is it supposed to lock into place when properly placed or does it hang out halfway because I can't seem to place it back in. I've been at it for 2 hrs already! I don't want to place too much pressure on the ZIF because it is so fragile looking.
Any tips on getting that little sucker back in??!!!

    CANCEL CANCEL!!!! I did it!!!
I finally did it. I was supposed to pull back the little grey latch back outward AND THEN insert the little ZIF back into place and finally lock it in.....
In case anyone needs to know.....
    There you go. Hehe!

After the server process shutdown and recovered , While  all other connectors  working fine why oracle connectors have problems?
Is it due to oracle driver issue? or any other issue related to Netweaver.
    Please help.

  • Win 8.1 Connector issue

    Hello folks,
I have been having this annoying issue trying to Join my windows 8.1 desktop pc to my company domain, whenever I run through the connector software (Windows server 2012 essentials) it fails with "an unexpected error has occured" just after you
    put in the domain credentials.
I've removed all connector updates and software installed on the pc and tried fresh...still no joy.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jordan

    Hi,
Please ensure you uninstall those connector software completely and unjoin you computer client from the network. Meanwhile, please make sure the client computer
is not joined to any other server networks. Then check if you can join in your company domain.
Based on your current description, please refer to the following path on the client computer: %programdata% /Microsoft /Windows
Server /Logs and find the ClientDeploy.log to narrow down your issue.
By the way, would you please provide a screenshot for the error message (you describe it "an unexpected error has occurred")?
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu
