Zip Drive and Mac Files

I have a grey G3 with an internal zip drive. I need to save my Mac Zip files onto my PC. I have an external PC zip drive that does not read Mac zip discs. Is there any solution???

Use Disk Utility and format the zip disks as MS-DOS. Or use the PC and format the disks as FAT.

  • External Hard drive and dmg files not mounting

External Hard drive and dmg files suddenly not mounting. Im running Mavericks on 27" iMac. Anyone have a fix or has anyone else suddenly had this problem? There was a Mavericks update a few weeks ago, but things were fine until today. This is weird. Ive checked in disk utility and can see one of my two external HD's, the one that I back up. But not even this will mount. Ive tried repairing HD thinking it was damaged but now see that all my ext hd's suddenly dont mount. Ive tried several mac restarts.

Solved the problem. My external HD is a WD (My Book Studio). I needed to install updated driver manager and this fixed it:

If you have a WD external HD goto the above link and search for your model and a list of updates will be shown, Yay!!

  • How do I download firefox to a disc (or zip drive) and transfer it to another pc (one without a browser)?

I updated firefox to the newest version and it wouldn't work (something about the proxy server) so I stupidly tried to fix it by using the restore program. I then realized that the old firefox was uninstalled when I downloaded the new updated version and now I have no way to get on the internet at home. Some very nice people told me I could download firefox to a disc or zip drive and then install it on my computer at home. I couldn't save the stupid thing, it just installed itself on the computer. I know this is a ridiculous request, but could someone please, please, please give me a step by step? It would really be appreciated.

Lindsey, go to the web page that cor-el refers to in his/her reply. You will find a grid with all of the different languages that FF comes in.
Select "english (US)" and click on the "download" link for your operating system. You will go to another page where it states that your download will begin automatically.
You should then see a message box come up and ask if you want to save the file. Click on "Save File" and save it to whatever device you are using to transfer it to the other PC.
Take the device with the file and plug it into the other computer. Using "My Computer," navigate to the device and double-click on the file. It will then start the FF installation process. Follow the on-screen directions from there. The file is about 8.2Mb so allow yourself enough space on your device.
I hope this little note will get you where you want to go, but remember; "No matter where you go............there you are."

Attempting to upgarde itunes and I get an error message looking for "an alternate path to a folder containing 'iTunes.msi' location.  I've searched my hard drive and the file doesn't exist.  What to do?

This worked...found on a prior discussion:
Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page)...
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
From the link above (near the top of the page)....Under 'download locations'   click on 'download@majorgeeks'
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you just downloaded and ran.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    Restart your computer.
Re-download Itunes (latest version form Itunes website) and install.  It worked!

  • Is it OK to use USB 2.0 connection for Glyph external drive and Mac Pro as project drive?

Is it OK to use a USB 2.0 connection for Glyph external drive and Mac Pro as project drive? I was told by Sweetwater tech support to use Firewire, but both the FW400 and FW800 connections crash my audio interface software mixer (Presonus' "Universal Control" software).
Both Firewire connections also create a 10 second hang for each Command-Save that I do.
USB 2.0 for the external drive seems to be working so far, but is there some reason I should be wary of using this as my go-to project drive? In other words, I am imagining that there was probably some definite reason that the tech support guy mentioned not to use it. But maybe not. It's a brand new Glyph. In any event, it's nice to have the 10 second hang eliminated, and I was just looking for some advice, since digging into the Presonus software issue could take some time.

If you have a mac pro, why not stick the external HDD inside via one of your many SATA cables & have it run 9 times faster than your USB?
Or stick a HDD CADDY in your mac pro, so you can slot in a full sized 3TB HDD for recording, and when you are done, pull it out & slip it in an external enclosure if you need to take it places?

  • Scanner not found after HP driver and Mac OS X 10.5.5 updates

I had my HP C5180 All-In-One connected to my network and working fine with my iMac before the recent HP Driver and Mac OS X 10.5.5 updates from Software Update. I could print and scan with no problems. After the updates I get an error message from HP Scan Pro that there was a communication error and the scanner was not found. What's interesting is that if I start with the Scan Menu button on the printer I can get all the way to HP Scan Pro launching on my iMac before the error message appears. Apparently the iMac and C5180 see each other and can communicate.
I had this problem the last time both the HP Drivers and Mac OS X were upgraded through Software Update. HP Support's solution was to uninstall the entire HP driver software package and reinstall with the download from HP's site. That is **** poor and really unacceptable. I really just expect stuff not to break when Apple or HP suggest an update through Software Update. My philosophy of running Macs at home is that I don't have to think or work too hard to adminster them. This is proving me wrong on that idea.
    Thoughts, comments, suggestions?

I feel your pain brother. Just posted with the exact same problem. Looks like the "fix" is to uninstall/reinstall?
Yeah, they are definitely seeing each other as is the case with my setup. While it is a band aid and not fixing the problem, it you really really have to scan something, open up your browser and type in the IP address of your 5180. If you don't know it, you can find it by going into the configuration menu in the 5180 until you get to network. From there, you can scroll down to view settings for wired/wireless (don't know how you're connected to network). Once you get your IP address, type it in the browser. At that point the configuration page of the 5180 should come up. On the left, there is a application heading and under that a "webscan" feature. Click on that, then choose the option that applies to you. Once that's done, click preview. Once you see the image, right click on it and save it somewhere. If you hit the scan button, you will also save it, but it's anyone's guess to where it's saved to or what it's named. Again, not the ideal solution, but if you have to use it, then better than nothing.
FYI I have a C7280 so not sure yours will follow the exact same instructions, but should be close.
    Good luck

  • Internal Zip Drive and Internal DVD Burner Question:

Where can I find an internal Zip drive for my b&w g3 desktop?
Or should I just get an external USB or 1394 Zip drive?
+(I have a 20gb hard drive that doesn't have its computer anymore and I connected it to a Gateway 2000 and the hard drive has Windows 98 SE with lots of files...jpegs for example...and I am going to get the files off of the hard drive before I erase it and put it on another desktop. The only way I can get it off is with a Zip drive. The USBs wouldn't work).+
Besides that one reason, I was going to get an internal Zip Drive for my Apple desktop anyways.
I have a DVD Rom in the apple desktop. I also want to upgrade it to a DVD Burner / DVD+R/RW or whatever it is called. Is that possible?

I have a B&W G3/400 purchased in '96 which I've upgraded with the PowerLogix 1.1 GHz Zif Upgrade. When Apple introduced OSX I also installed and ATA hard drive, and a few years ago I replaced the original Apple CD ROM with a Pioneer DV D-RW DVR-111D (which surprisingly burns DVD's faster than my new iMac 2.8GHz Intel Core2 Duo). The Pioneer DVD burner works like a charm. There were no issues at all when it came to the instyallation: rebooting, reading installation CD's or what have you. It was true, PLUG & PLAY.
    The G3 is currently running:
    1) OSX 10.4.11, on an ATA drive (Maxtor 6L100PO; 93.37GB) &
    2) MAC OS 9.2.2 on the original equipment 9GB SCSI Drive
The G3 cannot take advantage of the ZIF processor upgrade in OSX 10.4.11, and I am in the process of downgrading OSX to 10.4.9 so that I can take advantage of the faster processor. According to PowerLogix the ZIF upgrade is not compatible with a later version of OSX after 10.4.9 as they have been unable to keep up with the changes Apple has been making in the OS.
    I hope this helps.

  • AUDIO SAMPLES FROM IOMEGA 100 ZIP DRIVE TO MAC BOOK PRO / LOGIC?

Posted: Fri, Feb 15 2013, 1:27pm    Post subject: AUDIO SAMPLES FROM ZIP 100 TO MACBOOK PRO / LOGIC?
    HI THERE
I HAVE LOADS OF OLD AUDIO SAMPLES ON ZIP DISKS ( ZIP 100 using akai cd3000 sampler ) THAT I WOULD LIKE TO TRANSFER TO MY MAC BOOK PRO FOR LOGIC EX24.
IS IT A SIMPLE CASE OF A 'SCSI TO USB LEAD' , WILL MY MAC BOOK PICK IT UP FROM THERE OR DO I NEED SOFTWARE OR DRIVERS FOR MY MAC TO BE ABLE TO SEE THEM?
IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE AT ALL?
    THANKS

    Hi guys
Sorry for the delay in coming back. I bought a zip drive pretty cheaply then and it has only just turned up. However when I put my old ZIP disks in, it seems like the ZIP drive reads them at least but the MACBOOK comes up with the following message...
'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'
Does this pretty much mean a no go then?  Or can I put the samples from my AKAI sampler back through the old ZIP drive,  reformat some new disks in a certain way on that drive so that my MAC can read them?
All its for really is mainly to take old tracks that used these samples and getting them set up in my mac.  Also there was some good bits and pieces there anyway and would like to keep using those samples for newer projects. I could of coourse resample them from the AKAI straight to the MAC but would be not as practical and would take alot longer. The 13'' macbook pros input is not digital, only its output.
    thanks

  • Log into TC Drive and Mac Pro  Drive

I am able to log into my Mac Pro's drives, when file sharing is turned on in the OSX preferences, over the wan using TC which is very cool. Port forwarding works as it should. I use the Connect to Server under the Go menu , all is good. However, is it possible to access both the Mac Pro Drives and TC's internal drive from the wan? I don't need to access them simultaneously. But it would be nice to log into one or the other at will.
It seems that if file sharing is turned in the OSX preferences. I cannot log into TC's drive even though File Sharing and wan are both turned on under the Disk tab in TC. By the way, I have assigned a different name and password to the TC disk.
Does anyone know how this is done, or if it can be done?

I need to reply to my own message. As I mentioned at top of this post I am able to get into my Mac Pro’s drives using file sharing just fine. (read above) I now can get to TC hard drive as well with this set up. I know the IP address of TC. XXXX.XXXX.XXXX.XXXX found in the Internet Connection tab of the Internet menu in AirPort. Lets say its 12.12.12.12
I set up AirPort this way:
Disks -> File Sharing. Check both Enable file sharing and Share disks over Ethernet WAN port.
Disks -> Accounts. Click on the + to add a User
Enter a name and password, set the File Sharing Access to Read and Write
    Click Done
Advanced -> Port Mapping then Clicked the + to add a new port
I did nothing with the Service dropdown. Although I enjoyed gazing at it.
Set Public UDP Port(s) XXXX (4 digit number lets say 7878)
Set Public TCP Port(s) 7878 (same number as Public UDP, 7878)
Set Private IP Address to the IP address of my Mac Pro
Set Private UDP Port(s) to 548
Set Private TCP Port(s) to 548
Clicked Continue and entered Description name Clicked done then Update
    On my Mac Pro
I turned on File Sharing from the Preferences -> Sharing Panel
I drove to the office, which is generally how I get there. Powered up my Mac. Clicked Go -> Connect to Server. From the Desktop menu.
To connect to TC hard drive:
In the Server Address: field I entered afp://12.12.12.12 then Clicked Connect.
In the Name field I entered the user name and Password from the Disks -> Accounts dialogue in AirPort Utility (the stuff I set up earlier).
I Clicked Connect and saw my TC’s drive.
To connect to my Mac Pro’s Drives
In the Server Address: field I entered afp://12.12.12.12:7878 (followed by the port number I set up earlier. From the Advanced -> Port Mapping in AirPort)
In the Name field I entered the name of the login on I use on my Mac Pro and its password
Clicked Connect and saw all 5 drives installed in my Mac Pro
I sat put back, put my hands behind my head and smiled. Shear poetry. And that’s why I buy apple.

  • External drives and dmg files mount fine, but won't show on desktop

Recently purchased a new Mac Mini 2.3 ghz i5 with OSX Lion. Everything is updated, repaired permissions from the check disk utility.
Still my firewire drive, and any DMG files from software I'm looking to install are not showing up on the desktop. They mount fine, I can write to them, see them on the Finder left siderbar, share them on my intranet at home and use Back to Mac and Screen Sharing without any problems.
Anyone have an idea why this peculiar flaw is occuring? Is it a "feature" of Lion?

Much better: I was in the same shoes once as you

  • External Hard drive and .avi files ?

Ok so I just got an Iomega 500 GB external hard drive. I am using it mostly to transfer a lot of movies from my Mac hard drive. Most of these movies are .avi, and I've just recently noticed that when I connect the external hard drive to my computer or another computer and open these movies.. the quality is significantly lower. Way worse than the original copies on my mac hard drive.
Is there a way to copy or transfer my movie files to the external hard drive while retaining its original quality?

    Hi,
If you are able to successfully transfer your .avi files from your laptop to your external HD, there is no way to you should loss in quality. When you observe the loss in quality, you are reading your .avi files from your external HD!?
You might observe some lag due to the transfer of data from your external to your software on your Mac that reads the .avi files, but if not, I really can't see where that loss in quality comes from. I've been reading .avi files for years from my external hard drive and I've never seen loss in quality or lagging...
May I recommend you observe which programs use most of the RAM/CPU while you do so in Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor. Maybe not having enough available RAM is the culprit. If not, you should bring back your external HD and trade it with another to see.

  • External Drive and Duplicate files

I moved my images to an external drive through LR5.2.  Everything is working great except there are 6 files (organized by date) that LR says already exist on the external drive.  They are not on the external drive and I can't seem to get LR to move them.  Everything is in date order, so it's easy to see thay they are not there.  Any ideas on how to move these files?  BTW this has happened with more than one batch move... now I have a few dates from each move that remain on my computer leaving holes in the file dates on the external drive.
I'm using Mavericks (10.9) on MacBook Pro.

    Hi,
SElect the dublicate images and press ctrl-s (cmd-s on mac?). This saves you developments as xmp files. Now sync the target folder. Perhapst Lr states the dublicate images as missing - remove than.
DO the same with the source folder.
IF you removed the images from one of your folder, everything is ok.
IF not remove then from the target folder and move than.

  • New hard drive and mac OS installation question- tiger?

I have arrived at the sad conclusion that my iBook is needing a new hard drive. No better time for an upgrade. I have the iBook Dual USB, 800mHZ.
I noticed that OS Tiger requires a DVD player to install correctly? If so, what am I going to do? I only have the cd player on board. If this is the case, am I going to be stuck loading Jaguar on to the hard drive and then upgrading? If so, where does one find a retail copy of either Jaguar or Panther? (I noticed Panther also says it requires a dvd player to install?)

    Hi PFMbyNight!
    Here is some additional information.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (US).
Panther, is no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
A Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Panther is only on CDs, not DVDs.

Once Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the PPC 10.4.8 Combo Update.

  • Can I connect an externa hard drive and access files from 2 or more computers wirelessly?

Is there a way to connect an external hard drive to my linksys modem and access the files wirelessly by 2 or more computers?
I have a wireless G wrt54G modem working on windows XP a desktop and laptop on my home system. I have a WD “my book” external hard drive with a usb interface. My modem does not have a USB interface.
At work I also have 4 laptops  using XP and vista and looking to have them all access an external hard drive and printers. I have not selected a hard drive for the work system.
If yes can I add 2 or more printers and print form all connected computers?
If yes, is it possible to access the files of the external hard drive (home system) via the internet?
Thanks in advance for all your help

First, your WRT54G is a router, not a modem. Different function.
Yes, you can  "connect an external hard drive... and access the files wirelessly by 2 or more computers," just not that external hard drive. You need one that supports network attachment, with an ethernet connection.
And you can print to printers from various computer, again if the printers are made to support that.
The answer to your last question is maybe. Oh, it's definitely possible, but may require learning about static IP addresses, dynamic DNS, firewalls, port forwarding, file sharing...
