.zip files no longer open

I just downloaded the automatic update to version 3.6.9 of Firefox but I can no longer open .zip files on a certain page which I access using Firefox. I am using 7-zip. Normally, I would just click to open them, but now the screen flashes black for less than a second, not allowing them to open.
Any ideas? Thanks.

  • Why does a link to zip file on server open a blank web page?

Using CS6, I created this page:  J & B Computers - Projects I've uploaded 2 zip files and linked them from this page with this code:  <a href="Zip Files/CheckIPApp.zip" target="_blank">Download a zip file of the IP Checking utility</a> When this link is clicked, it opens up a blank tab instead of prompting for a download. I've tried it with and without the target=blank, I've also tried target=new... I've tried it in Chrome and Firefox. I've tried it on different computers. I've searched for an answer for hours...  what the heck is going on? I want the link to open up the save/download box and it just won't... TIA if you have a resolution!

Since it's a file download, there's no reason to add the target="_blank", I'm guessing your file is 404 for some reason which would give you a blank window per the target.
Make sure the case structure of the file and link are identical. Servers are case sensitive, a server sees CheckIPApp.zip and checkIPApp.zip as totally different files. Your local OS sees them as the same thing so during local testing it will work, when uploaded, it won't.
Make sure you've loaded the file onto the server at the exact location specified by the link. It should be in a folder called "Zip Files" that resides on the same directory level as the page that the link is on.
You may also want to normalize your file names. They should be all lower case alpha-numerics without any spaces (use hyphens or underscores instead) and without special characters ($%&*). You can use DW's Files window to change names and DW will fix the links automatically.

  • BO Live Office - Excel files no longer opening

    Hi all,
I've been running into a problem and only encountered it when installing BO Live Office. On my old computer, I used to be able to click on an Excel file that was on my desktop, for example, and then Excel would automatically open up and open the file. Then when I downloaded Live Office, I was no longer able to do this. Now everytime I click on an Excel file (no matter where it is located), I keep getting an error. Excel opens, but it tells me "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
At first I thought it was just my computer messing up and or something else was going wrong, but now I'm not so sure. I just recently got a new computer and I tried out opening an Excel file (from my desktop, for example) and it worked. Then I went and installed Live Office with the latest FixPack, etc. Once I installed it, it would no longer let me open an Excel File by clicking on the file. I keep getting the same error - "There was a problem sending the command to the program."
On my old computer, I had Office 2003 w/Windows XP and now I have Office 2007 w/Windows 7. It doesn't seem to matter if I have the latest software or upgrades/fixpacks. This error still occurs. I've tried turning off/disabling the Live Office Plug-in, but this has not worked either. Has anyone run into this problem before? I'm not sure how to go about fixing it. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Charlette

    Hi,
I also had the same issue (from couple of months) after we upgraded and it was very very frustating until I saw this post.
    Thanks a lot Tracy.
I added "%1" at the end in the field labeled u2018Application used to perform action:u2019
    "......\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE" "%1" /e
The excel files are now opening. But there is also a message along with it. It says as below.
    >>>
Windows cannot find '<excel file name goes here>'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To searcg for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
    >>>
It's odd that the file is opening fine even though the above message shows up. This happens to every .XLS and .XLSX file. Atleast the file is opening now, which is great!
I am not sure how to fix the warning message.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks again.

  • Cp4 - project (.cp) files no longer open

    Hello folks,
Since upgrading to Windows 7 64bit, I can no longer rely on the integrity of Cp4's project files. Again, I have another three .cp files that will no longer open in Captivate 4. When I attempt to open them, absolutely nothing happens... that means no error message, nothing...
But I know the files are not actually 'bad' because they will all open successfully in Captivate 5.5 beta. Unfortunately, neither 5.0 nor 5.5 offer backwards compatibility in Export or Save As.
I have also tried opening the .bak file (renamed) and previous backups. It seems to have become corrupted during the last major change.
I have encountered this problem far too many times. Perhaps it is time to finally upgrade to Cp 5?
Has anyone else encountered similar difficulties?

You could try creating a new Captivate 4 file (Keep the same dimensions)
Then try importing the slides, File / Import / Slides/Objects and select the 'corrupt' file and see if the slides are appearing there to import . I've had issues in the past and this normally gets round it.
If all else fails feel free to send a copy up to yousendit.com (or another similar site) and PM me the link, i'll take a look at it for you
On my laptop I cant open a particular Captivate 4 file (Think memory issues) yet it opens fine on my desktop PC.  The file 'opens' but theres no slides or anything, the toolbar says the name of the Captivate 4 file but theres no slides.
    Cheers

  • Mac zip files won't open in Windows PC

I have been right clicking and compressing raw .mov video files to send from the UK to Australia via wetransfer. I am using a Macbook Pro with Mountain Lion. Each set of zipped files is between 3GB - 8GB in size and they (compress) and zip and send fine. But my client is on a Windows PC and only now tells me they are having problems opening the "zip" files I have sent them. They get the message that the zip is "invalid". Any ideas what can be wrong here? I tested them on my Mac by reopening and they work file.
    Many thanks in advance.

Step one would be to try them on a local windoze box. That should give you some indication of what might be wrong. Alternatively, try the Terminal command gzip. Read about it by typing in man gzip in a Terminal window and then pressing the return key.

  • Zip file won't open

I have lost a few photos transfering files from the macbook g3 iphoto to the aluminum macbook and iphoto 8.0.4. The info (name, size, date) are visible but no photo. I was short of space in the ibook so I backed up iphoto on a thumb drive and 'archived it' into a .zip file. This file will not open in the macbook. (Error 1 operation not allowed). The file is 516 mb zipped. The ibook has 1.75gb available on 10 gb HD but part way thru the unarchiving process it announces the startup disc is almost full and then the ibook screen goes black. Any idea how to get at this data.

Some of the issues you relate to may have something to do with
the differences in iPhoto versions and the possibility of their being
not so directly compatible when moving images the way have did.
The compressed file should be transferred unopened to a larger
external hard disk drive or somewhere the file can be put on to
a DVD or other media, should the lack of free space in which
to open & view the compressed file be a problem in a hard drive.
Although it may not help the situation, there also are other
unarchiver software types out there which could also open
the compressed file; but only if there is adequate space in
the location (or another location can be selected) to do so.
The Unarchiver - an alternative to BOMArchiveHelper. app:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/theunarchiver.html
    The problem sounds more complex, perhaps, than it is;
or maybe it really is complex due to how you have made
this archive of the iPhoto image library from the older
iBook (? you say Macbook G3) and its iPhoto version.
Accessing the jpg images should be relatively easy if they
are not messed up in some odd copy of the actual iPhoto
version from the older OS. This is where your description
is a bit lost on me. There is a way to make backups and
also copies of the iPhoto libraries themselves; but there
have been some issues (supposedly addressed) in how
older iPhoto images were seen - or not, by the newer
    version of iPhoto.
If there is not enough free space in a computer to open
a large compressed file (and run the apps, swap files
and other Virtual Memory the computer needs to work)
then the file should be opened elsewhere.
A computer's hard disk drive, where the system resides,
should never be more than 80% full. Mine are 50% full.
Backups to DVDs of images, music and other works in
progress could be made to safeguard them. Some types
of libraries may not be the best way to do this; in the case
of my own images, I do not use iPhoto. My jpg and other
images are saved by date into folders, by year; any edits
are saved in their own folder in the date folder, direct from
the camera into a new folder on the desktop. One of my
favorite apps is ToyViewer for image editing, a freeware.
{My edits also are not very complex since I try to duplicate
my skills as a film photographer, in the new digital world.
Photoshop & other alterations take away from experience.
If I were to take 10 hours painting my images fantastic, I
could hardly justify not just taking up fine art. I can do it.
    Simple resizings, rotations and rename images= editing.}
Please explain in more detail about the way the image in
the older computer were archived, and where; and what
they were a part of. I don't know if I understand correctly.
PS: If the image file you compressed (assuming it is only
images and not part of the older iPhoto app) you could
try to see if using FireWire target disk mode could be used
to get the files direct from the iBook hard drive into another
computer; not sure what MacBook you have, some new
ones lost the FireWire ports. The compressed file could
be moved from iBook to another computer & opened there.
    Good luck & happy computing!
    edited.

  • My music files no longer open...

The icon next to each music file has changed colour ( black on white to white on blue symbol) & iTunes no longer opens files with the blue & white symbol, Any ideas please??

I'm having a similar problem, if you could help me out.
I just barely installed Office 2011 on my Mac (10.5.8) and now I can't access any of my old word documents.
When I try to open them, it says it is "blocked from opening in this version".
when I open it from word (file-open), it says that it's locked for editing by another user, and I can only open it read-only. When I click read only, it says
"word cannot open this document. the document might be in use, the document might not be a valid word document, or the file name might contain invalid characters."
just an hour ago, when i had the old version of word installed on my computer I could access all of these files, but now I can't open any of them. Any ideas?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you! Merry Christmas!

  • .nef files no longer open in Photoshop CS3

    Hi
I have  Nikon D60 and recently started shooting in raw when I discovered that Photoshop allows you to then edit the files to a much greater extent before converting them to .jpg.
.nef files used to open automatically in Photoshop (in a separate window, seemingly a sort of add-on designed for raw files?). Now when I try, the software tells me that they are 'the wrong kind of document'.
What's changed / broken? Or have I suddenly forgotten a vital step....?
I've tried downloading a newer version of camera raw, to no avail...
    Thanks for your help

The D60 was first supported by Adobe Camera Raw version 4.4.
Make sure you update your ACR (Adobe Camera Raw) plug-in to the latest (and last) version of that plug-in compatible with CS3, which is version 4.6.

  • Post external hard drive crash, imovie6 files no longer open despite all data being present

    my external hard drive crashed.
Thanks to ontrack, I recovered most if not all of the data, and this included the iMovies, I was told, but not one iMovie will open.
The data size is the same as when they were functional. Yet, when clicking on the icon for the movie, it opens and then I see a prompt that says, "A project file is missing..." If I ignore all, the movie never opens. I dont ignore all, the movie does not open.
    My questions:
    (1) can I fix these files myself? If so, how?
    (2) If this is too hard for a novice, is there a company who can look at priceless imovie files and fix themquestion
    (3) is this a lost cause?
I've lost upwards of 15 imovies (and the countless hours and love put into each). I'm willing to go to some lengths to fix them, including paying someone.
    Thoughts/advice/suggestions?
    Thanks.
    Damon

I'd like to amend my original post... This should be helpful to anyone out there...
    my external hard drive crashed.
I DID NOT have documents backed up properly.
    ....I KNOW....
    sigh...
Thanks to Ontrack, I recovered most if not all of the data, and this included the iMovies, I was told.  Yet, when trying to open each file, none will open.
    I've tried almost everything, including:
    (1) show package contents (and trying to drag and drop "TimelineMovie.mov from cache to new iMovie)(nothing happens when dropping it into the new iMovie--quicktime opens but then nothing)
    (2) show package contents (and clicking on the backup copy with ~ in the file name)(again, nothing happens)
What I know is the following:
    (1) The data size is the same as when they were functional.
    (2) Yet, when clicking on the icon for the movie, it opens and then I see a prompt that says, "A project file is missing..." If I click "ignore all", the movie never opens... i see it loading, loading, loading, and then it stops about 3/4 in.
    (3) If I dont "ignore all", the process is the same.
    (4) when I go into the media file, i see that all of the data is there
    (5) while my new external hard drive(S)...lol... have plenty of space, my current macbook pro is maxed out and I operate with just under 1gb of available memory
    My questions:
    (1) do I have any hope here?
    (2) If so, how do I fix these priceless files myself? I know, if priceless, why not backed up?  again, sigh...
    (3) If too hard for a novice, is there a company who can look at priceless imovie files and fixes them?
Again, I've lost MANY imovies (and the countless hours and love put into each). I'm willing to go to some lengths to fix them, including paying someone.
    Thoughts/advice/suggestions?
    Thanks.

  • Open zip file with the OPEN DATASET statement.

    How?
The zip file is a text file compressed.
    Thanks for answers.

in application server no ZIP files exist...as such flat files exist which can be read using DATASET concept.

  • Canon .MXF Files no Longer Opens in AE

This is for .MXF files shot on a Canon XF300.  Things were working fine, but suddenly I am unable to open those mxf files in AE CS6.  Even projects previously created with AE CS6 now won't open, and give me the 'file damaged or unsupported' error message in AE. The file locations are identical.   I've found workarounds, but they fall a very long way short of the convenience of using Dynamic Link from the Premiere Pro CS6 timeline.  There are lots of hits if you Google, but most go back a version or two, or suggest converting the MXF clips to an AE friendly format.  Like I say... doable, but it used to work fine, and I'd love to fix it so I can get back to using AE direct from Premiere Pro.  Any help would be much appreciated.   [EDIT]  Other file types are working fine.

Hi Klaus, and thanks for responding.   When I first got the error, I went back to older comps made with MXF files from the same camera, and now they are problematic as well, but not in the same way.  Any new MXF file I try to use in AE, whether from a PP timeline, or open directly from the AE projects panel, gives me the 'file damaged or unsupported' error message.  One of the older projects created with MXF files does in fact open, but is badly broken up when scrubbing the AE timeline.  That seems to be similar to problems I've found with Google.  It used to work fine, and now it doesn't. AE is 11.0.2.12  which I suspect is a new version than when I made the last project.  System is Win7  3039K @ 4.2Ghz, 32Gb RAM, and GTX570.  Project drive is raid0 with two 2nd gen Velociraptors.  One other raid0 drive.  Lots of drives totalling 14Tb.    It won't be the end of the world if I have to transcode a few clips, but it used to work, so I'm thinking it should be fixable.

  • .dmg files no longer open in the finder

I just did an archive and reinstall (to solve some unrelated problems). Most things seem fine, but now .dmg files show up on the desktop without any icon, and when I double click them they open Disk Utility instead of mounting in the finder.
It's possible to mount them from within disk utility by selecting the .dmg file and clicking on "open" ... but this is an odd bunch of extra steps, and it seems like something's wrong.
in get info I tried to change the default app to the Finder, but it wouldn't let me.
I've repaired permissions, rebuilt the directory with disk warrior, restarted, etc. .. no luck.
    any thoughts?

The application to choose in "get info" >>"open with" is "DiskImageMounter".

  • Multiple DomainSite files no longer open after Lion upgrade

I have at least 6 separate Domain.Sites.2 files that use for domains that I maintain using iWeb. Since I upgraded to Lion last week, I've discovered that no matter which DomainSite file I've tried to open, it continues to open the last site that I worked on before my system upgrade.
Have I lost the ability to use those files?
I'm in big trouble if there's not a fix for this! Big trouble!!
    Thanks for any help,
    Bob

Here's another solution to your issue:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
