.zip icon is blank white rather than the default Tiger .zip icon.
Recently I removed StuffIt from my Mac and now when I have a .zip file sitting on my desktop it has a generic white icon rather than the default .zip icon (which I seem to remember was white with a zip through the middle).
I was wondering if there is way of getting .zip files associated with that icon once more. I realise this is a pretty minor issue, but I'd like to be able to fix this.
After searching the discussion pages I came across this page - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=733697򳈁 and a user linked the poster to a page that had a terminal command to fix this issue - unfortunately the link is now dead.

List Template Always Defaluts to 'Current View' Rather than the Defaulted ' All Tasks' Veiw
I have created a task list template. I have selected all of columns and deleted all others. I have created only one view clled 'All Tasks' and set it to my defult, in addition I have deleted all of the other views. However, when I instert
the task template on another page or when it's used as part of a site template it reverts back to 'Current View' and shows a bunch of columns that I deleted. I am forced to change the view everytime I insert it on to a page. Under the List Settings
I don't even see anything called 'Current View'.

According to your description, I did a test in my SharePoint 2010 as the followings:
1. Create a task list named ‘Task template’, create a custom view named ‘View1’ different from All tasks view, and set the view as the default view
2. Add some items into the tasks list
3. Delete other views except the view1
4. Create a page, add the tasks ‘Task template’ into the page
5. Then the web part displayed like All Tasks view in the tasks list
6. Create another tasks list ‘Tasks2’, create a custom view named ‘View1’ diferent from All Tasks view, and set the view as the default view
7. Reproduce the step 4, then the result is same with the above test.
8. Then I tried to set the system view like ‘My task’ as the default view, then reproduced the step 4
9. The web part displayed as My Task view.
For this issue, it seems to be happened on the custom view, if you want to display the custom view for the tasks web part on a page, you can do as Edit Web Part-> selecting the custom view under Selected View.

Mail - why does it use Firefox rather than the default, Safari?

I have both Safari and Firefox on this iMac that's running 10.6.8. Safari is my default browser.
Within Mail Preferences, the Default RSS Reader is set up to use Safari. However, Mail always links to Firefox. Why is this and how do I change it?

Is there a way of displaying the various item in my Downloads folder as icons arranged in order of Date Created, such that the most recent items appear at the bottom, rather than the top? I know this can be done when they are displayed as a list, but I want icons!

when you open your 'Downloads' folder choose 'View' in the Menu bar and choose:
'as List'
'Show View Options'
In 'View options' window you tick:
'Always open in list view'
'Date Modified', or
'Date created'
Now inside the 'Downloads' folder click on 'Date Created' (or 'Date Modified')
column to get items alined from oldest to newest date (or reverse)… -
When I turn on my MacBook Pro and when I am at the login screen, the background is white rather than steel gray. What is wrong and how can I fix it?
It turns out that iCloud caused this issue. When I turned iCloud off my login screen was completely normal.

I have a Macbook Air 13.3" 2012 model. For a couple of days my Macbook does not shuts down. It just stops at a blank white screen with the cursor still hovering around it. I have to shut it down forcefully every time using the power button.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamps of the BOOT_TIME log messages, which refer to the times when the system was started. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
For example, if the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down for three minutes before you forced a restart, post the messages timestamped within three minutes before the boot time, not after. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract—not at the beginning.
If there are long runs of repeated messages, please post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
☞ When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Step 2
In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A crash report has a name that begins with the name of the crashed process and ends in ".crash". A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". A shutdown stall report has a name that ends in ".shutdownstall". Select the most recent of each, if any. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot. It's possible that none of these reports exists.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
☞ If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash or panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

How can I make ringtones show in my Tones tab rather than the Music tab?
I just bought my first iPhone 4 and uploaded a bunch of music ringtone files to iTunes and changed the default preference to display the Tones tab. However, the ringtones all got added to the Music tab rather than the Tones tab. I have a number of questions:
I'm used to other phones where any music file can be set as a ringtone for a particular contact. Is this the case for iPhones too?
If so, how can I set a ringtone for a contact from these music files?
If not, how can I get the ringtones to appear in the Tones tab? I assume that I would have to do that to sync ringtones to my iPhone ringtone "folder".
Is there another alternative? I read on the forum something about dragging ringtone files to the iPhone. Not sure I understood that! Does this mean I can drag a music file from the Music tab to the iPhone icon and have that file end up in the iPhone ringtone "folder"? If it ends up in the Music "folder", how do I access it to set it as a contact ringtone?
Thank you for any light you can shed on this.It would be good if this was made a user-defined Option (Tools -> Options -> Tabs) in the next update of Firefox rather than having to install an add-on. I currently keep Firefox open to view my Accuweather.com add-on running or because I know that I will be returning to Firefox in short order. (I do close Firefox if I have visited a sensitive or secure site to ensure better security.) Every time I want to go to a bookmark, I must open a new "(Untitled)" tab before selecting my bookmark using the keyboard (I'm a dedicated keystroker; it's much faster for me). This way, when I close the website, I have an "(Untitled)" tab displaying so that Firefox doesn't close. Why can't I set an Option parameter that will result in me not having to go through this? Alternatively, allow users to set an option to keep Firefox loaded and open in the event only one tab is open and maybe if only one Firefox application window is running (I avoid having more than one Firefox window open as much as possible). I've addressed this last issue in the past but have seen no change when one closes the last tab in a Firefox window. As general practice, I would think that Firefox would run better if options, like I have described above, were part of the Firefox application code and not given to needing an add-on which may cause instability in Firefox as they have in the past, even with author verification and certification.

Every time Firefox openedDavid. Thank you very much. The problem was not with the canvas but rather the Viewer. But the solution was the same. Somehow, the Viewer window was re-set to Alpha. I changed it back to RGB.... and the picture is back. These issues are often very simple.... but they can drive you bats if you don't know the answer. Very grateful. Tim

How can I create a slideshow that depicts only a version of a photo rather than the original? Since the original and new versions are saved together, the aperture slideshow often choices the original rather than the desired version to display.
There are two things we use the name "Slideshow" for in Aperture: a Slideshow Album, used for making Slideshows, and the Slideshow that is made. (Imho, it is a design mistake to not call the containers used to create Slideshows, Books, etc., "Albums".)
The Slideshow will use the Album Pick from any Stack. A good way to use Aperture is to promote the Image you want to regularly use (such as, for example, a Version with adjustments) to the top of the Stack. This makes it the Stack Pick, and will be the default Album Pick. If you haven't done that, you can still change the Album Pick for any Stack in a Slideshow Album. Expand your Stack(s), select the Image in each Stack that you want to be the Album Pick (and thus shown in the Slideshow), and "Stacks➞Set Album Pick". (Note the keyboard shortcut; there is also a Toolbar icon for this.) The change is immediate. The Slideshow will always show the Album Pick (or, if there is not one, the Stack Pick) for every Stack in your Slideshow Album. -
when i open a new tab, rather than the curser flashing in the url window it opens a new search page. a new tab used to open at the url - how do i get it to do so again?
A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

I notice many good programmers use this following method rather than the usual Paint_Event when painting to the form.

Also, maybe the jumpy graphics is made worse because the animation output is not synced with the video hardware refresh rate. We can get around that slightly by using a very high fps.

I tried modifying your code using a GraphicsFrame class that I wrote a little while back, the class utilizes the bufferedcontext/bufferedgraphics, instead of using the forms graphics directly. In theory, all objects should be rendered to the buffer before
the forms graphics object. Is this less glitchy/faster on your pc? It seemed less glitchy/faster on mine..., and previous benchmarks show that using buffered graphics in this manner improved render time.
