Zire 21 in Windows 7

What do I need to do to connect my Zire 21 to my new Windows 7 PC? The downloads for my device don't seem to suggest that they support Windows 7.

  • Bluetooth HotSync Zire 31 & Windows Vista 64-bit

I'm having trouble setting up HotSync between my Zire 31 and a PC running 64-bit Windows. I'm on theProduct Support web page for the Zire 31 and have followed the instructions after buying a Bluetooth adapter and installing the software.  In the Bluetooth Radio Properties Options I have checked "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer" in the Discovery box and, in the connections box, I have checked both "Allow Bluetooth devices to connect to this computer" and "Alert me when a new Bluetooth device wants to connect."  The Bluetooth adapter is on.   I have downloaded and installed Palm Desktop by ACCESS 6.2 and have selected Bluetooth in the Connections screen of the HotSync manager.
When I go to the Prefs application on the Zire 31, the screen looks completely different from the instructions on the Product Support web page.  I click on connections and Bluetooth is not included in the list of Available Connections.  There is no opportunity to set up a Bluetooth HotSync or select my computer from a list of devices.
I've spent several hours on this problem, and, after reading on the Product Support web page for the Zire 31 that I needed Bluetooth to HotSync with 64-bit Vista, I ran out and bought the Bluetooth adapter.  According to the Bluetooth Radio Properties window, the adapter and the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator are working properly.
Please don't tell me that the Zire 31 doesn't have Bluetooth capability.  I only got into Bluetooth after reading the Product Support web page for the Zire 31.  I'd appreciate any help that you can give.
    Thanks,
    Carolyn

Hello cgg2000, Welcome to the Palm Support Community.
Have you ever seen any reference to BlueTooth on your Zire31?  That's because it does not exist on a Zire31...
Sorry.  Your options are to use an IR (beaming) adapter, or depending on what version of "Windows" you have it might be able to run in "XP Mode".  There are several threads concerning this option, but I've never done it myself since I don't own the most expensive versions of either Win7 or Vista64.

  • Synchronizing Zire 21 - Windows 7

    Hi,
I've got a new laptop with Windows 7 and (still) Office Outlook 2003. I can't make synchronizing between Outlook and my Zire 21 get to work. I´ve tried to install from my original CD and also to install from the Palm Support download (version 4.1.4). Neither of them works.
It looks that the installation went ok. However, when I try to sync by pressing the `Star` on my PDA it is giving a connection error.
I'm getting really mad about it. Who could please, please help me.
    Kindest regards,
    Saskia

  • Calendar doesn't sync: Zire 31 & Windows XP Pro

Friends, this is similar to another posting but I couldn't understand the replies.  I got a new PC at work, installed my Palm software and successfully synced, except Calendar data did not transfer to/from Outlook.  There were some other oddities too, noted below.
Here is the sync log I got last week:
    OK Quick Install
    Outlook Notes
    - Recovery Sync
The Outlook conduits have been upgraded from a previous version and the first synchronization was successful.
    OK Outlook Notes
    Outlook Calendar
    OLERR:0D-000F
    OLERR:0D-0004
    OLERR:0D-0001
    - Recovery Sync
    Outlook Calendar synchronization failed
And here is one I got this morning:
    OK Quick Install
    OK Note Pad
    OK Tasks
    OK Memos
    OK Photos
    OK Calendar
    OK Contacts
-- Backing up Saved Preferences to C:\Program Files\palmOne\HublerE\Backup\Saved_Preferences.PRC
    OK Backup
HotSync operation completed on 04/16/07 10:41:10
    Still, no data transferred.
Other oddities: there was an error message at some point about several appointments from 1970 and 1971 (which of course don't exist); and the Contacts categories that I had set up on my handheld were wiped out and replaced with the factory defaults.  Any contact that was in a category that I'd created myself is now "unfiled."
    Thank you.

to have palm desktop work, you must install it on the account that you are going to sync it with, and that account must have administrator privileges, fast user switching is located in control panel, select classic view, and double click on user accounts click on "change the way users log in and out" then un-check"use fast user switching!

  • Zire21 not synchronizing with Outlook

    All,
Clean installation of HostSync Manager 7.0.2 in Windows XP and the sync process is unsuccessful
The program in windows notifies the process finished successfully, but in the Zire a window asking for reset pops up.
This behavior happens over and over again.
The log notifies the sync.  was successful, no errors, but after resetting the Zire the handheld continues clean
    Any help appreciated
    Regards

    Hi,
Thanks for the link but it did not help.
Summary of all actions undertaken since my last post:
     - Contacted the vendor as I was suspecting a hardware problem. He agreed to perfrom a swap of device, so I sent him back my previous BB Classic, and he sent me a new one. Result: same issue with another brand new device!
     - Retried again to install diffrent versions of Link: same issue
     - Reset to factory settings, tried again some tricks found on the net: same issue
     - Even when trying to copy files from my pc to the device, after some minutes, the connection is lost
     - The solution I found to synch my contacts and agenda:
         - Created a dummy webmail address, on which I copied all my contacts
         - Deleted the contacts I do no wish to be synchronized on my BB Classic (a way to reduce the number of contacts, 230 less)
         - Allowed that dummy address to see my calendar in view mode
         - Synchronized my dummy email address contacts and calendar with my BB classic (not the emails as I don't want them to be synchronized)
I know it's a twisted solution but that's the only way I found to fix this BUG on the BB Classic!
It "works" but that's not what and how I wanted to do it, and I have lost a lot of time!
With my previous phone, the Bold 9900, things were quite straight forward and very easy!
I searched for days in multiple forums, it looks like this issue is well known, and that there's no resolution yet.
BlackBerry should really fix this asap, it's a shame for such a good device to not be able to do basic things such as synchronizing outlook contacts and agenda!!!
Another issue popped-up recently: I tried to do back-up of the device through Link, it starts ok and then fails in the middle of the process, connection is lost...

  • Hot sync says Palm Zire has successfully synced but no data (using Windows 7 32 bit)

We have a Win XP desktop on which an older version of Palm Desktop has been working for years and been able to sync with my Palm Zire and my husband's Palm Z22.  Now that we have to decomission Win XP desktop have installed Palm Desktop by Access v6.2.2 and Hotsync v7.0.2 on Win 7 32bit laptop.
My husband has a Palm Z22 and has had no problems setting up user and syncing using Palm Desktop by Access when using Windows 7.  However, although the Palm Desktop has correctly indentified by device as a Zire and hotsync via cable says it completes successfully no data appears on the Desktop.  In reverse, when I add a new contact on Palm Desktop and sync it does not appear on the handheld.
Have tried downloading and installing driver from:
    http://aceeca.com/support/sales-support/downloads/product/drivers-32-bit-usb-windows-driver-for-palm...
However, when I followed the instructions provided with teh 64 bit download my laptop said I already had most up to date driver!
Please help as I rely on my Zire and need it to back up successfully.

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!
The Aceeca drivers are ONLY for 64-bit Operating Systems.  Since yours is 32-bit, it's not needed.
Try right-clicking on the shortcut for Palm Desktop, then choose "Run as Administrator".  See if the data appears.
Another suggestion would be to turn off "UAC" or User Access Control.   Control Panel/Users/Turn off UAC.

  • How to sync my Zire 31 with the palm Desktop Software on a Windows 7 PC

    Hi everybody
My notebook died (vista) so I had to buy a Windows 7 hp model.
Now I could install the software but the PC doesn't recognize my handheld device.
    A sync is not possible.
Can anybody tell me how I can make my device known to the system or do I have to leave the Palm world altogether an buy me an ipod?
I would really like to keep syncing with my palm.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Windows Vista 64 bit Hot Sync w/Zire 71

The Zire 71 is not a wireless unit so I can not sync via Bluetooth.  I tried infra red, and although the PC and the Zire can connect, they can not communicate.  It seems before we can use an infrared sync, we must sync via cable.  But Vista doesn't recognize the Zire when hooked by cable, and Palm has no fix.
Anyone find a fix to this?  I like the Zire and it's perfect for me, but Palm doesn't support hotsync with the new Windows O/S.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks
    Post relates to: Zire 71

    Thanks for your input ...
When trying to sync, the IR icon in the PC tray shows communication with a device, but nothing further happens.  After 20 seconds or so the Palm times out and displays an error message ..... Connection with PC failed.
I have the Palm set to local and to IR/PC connection.  The Hotsync connections are set to IR, and USB.  There is not a local selection choice in Hotsync connections.
Any further thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks for taking the time to help.

  • WINDOWS 8 DID NOT SUPPORT MY PALM ZIRE 72 PROGRAM. LOST ALL DATA.

My new windows 8 computer does not support my Palm Zire 72 software. I had my handheld charged, but unplugged and lost all my data since there was no backup. I have my old hard drive with most of the backup on it. Is there any way I can get this data back. It was YEARS of contacts that I lost. Thanks for your help.

    vhk,
Win 8 does support Palm desktop software for Zire 72.
I have been using it for 3 months with no problems.
If you have 64bit Win 8 you need to download and install the Aceeca driver to HotSync.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Palm-OS-WinMo-Hardware-and-Software/64-Bit-Windows7-8-8-1-USB-drivers-f...
I have my Windows UAC (User account Control) set to Never Notify.
I set the Palm Desktop/ Properties/Compatibility to  Run this program as administrator
I use the same PD software (4.14e) on Vista, Win 7, and Win 8 ( I HotSync my Zire 72 on all 3 PCs weekly)
When you install the PD software skip check the  internet for updates step.
If you can find your Palm desktop user folder on the old hard drive you might be able to copy it and paste it into the palmOne folder when you have Palm Desktop installed on the Win 8 PC.
User folder path for PD 4.1for XP & Vista is: Computer (C drive)/Program Files/ palmOne/User ID (same as Zire 72 last Hotsync)
User folder path for PD 4.1for Win 7 & 8 is: Computer (C drive)/Program Files (x86)/ palmOne/User ID (same as Zire 72 last Hotsync)
If you had a long user ID on the Zire 72 it will be shortened to 5 or 6 characters in the palmOne folder.

  • Sync'ing a Palm Zire 72 with Windows 7 (Home Premium 64)

Ok I am probably a dinasour but have relied on my Zire 72 for years for all the contacts and calendar items I don't want to keep on my phone but now cannot get it to sync with Windows 7.  I never used Vista, migrated straight from XP to Windows 7 but have read all the threads on Vista and hot sync'ing.  I know I apprently can't use the direct USB cables as there are no 64 bit drivers from palm for this so I purchased the recommended USB-1510 IRDa adaptor.  Even though Cables Direct does not seem to have Windows 7 drivers, Windows 7 appeared to recognize and accept the Vista 64 drivers and the adaptor seems to be recognized.  I am using Hotsync 4.1.0 and Palm Desktop 4.1.4.  Have tried everything, soft resets of the Palm, reboots of both the computer and palm, reinstallation of the software, etc and cannot get these to sync.  I either get the message that the connection cannot be established or once or twice that the port was being used by another process.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I competely give up.  Many thanks!
    Post relates to: Zire 72

I have hotSync Manager 6.0.1 and while the Zire 72 will NOT sync over the USB cable it will sync over a Bluetooth connection. You need to have a Bluetooth interface either built into the computer or a Bluetooth USB plug in device. Then you have to set up the channel by making both devices visible to other devices once they recognize each other you have to follow the dircetions in Windows 7 for making it a trusted device. After they are trusted devices they will sync over Bluetooth which is slower that using a straigth USB cable but it works.
This is also the way you can sync a Palm LifeDrive and HP Ipaq with SW on Windows 7. Yes I have all three and this was the easiest way so  I could make them sync up suing the same interface. The Lifedrive and HP Ipaq can also sync over WIFI but this was easier for me since all the devices use the same interface, i.e. no remembering special setups.
I am running WIn 7 Home Premium and I am using Palm Desktop Application 4.1.4 for all Palm syncs. I have 2 Zire 72 Palms and 1 Life drive. They all come up in that Palm Desktop Application allwoing me to copy things from one to the other.

  • Windows 7 and Zire 21

I have a Zire 21 which is working fine and I hot sync on a Windows XP home edition computer.  I would be lost without my Palm - I am in need of a new computer and have been told in order to hot sync and use my old friend I will have to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for and additional $89.00.

The CD that came with these handhelds does not have a 64-bit driver. Neither does Palm Desktop 6.2.2. But the company that took over PalmOS did make one.
Read this thread for information on installing the Palm Desktop 64-bit drivers.
Note: these are 3rd party drivers and not supported by HP.

  • Palm desktop for Zire 72 with Windows Vista, 32 bit

I've tried the version 4.1.4e offered on the website, it is not working, though one page on the site seemed to omit that it would work for Vista.  What is strange is that it was working on my system just fine until a month ago.  I've uninstalled what I had, reinstalled, and still nothing.  Need help now!  Thanks.
    Post relates to: Zire 72

Hello godsey and welcome to the Palm forums.
Palm Desktop 4.1.4e should work on Vista, but in my opinion, Vista is still a bit quarky.  I moved up to Palm Desktop 6.2 on my Vista box.  The Zire 72 has the newer Palm PIM applications so it will sync to PDT 6.2.  If you are still having trouble, you might want to try the upgrade.  (I would encourage you to export your data from Palm Desktop 4.x before upgrading.  The upgrade process converts your data and there is no going backwards without a prior data backup.)
Also, before downloading and installing Palm Desktop 6.2, make sure you read and understand the differences between Palm Desktop 4.x and 6.x.  There are some changes, and in Palm Desktop 6.2 by ACCESS for Windows there are some features that have been taken away.

I am trying to sync my palm zire 31 to windows 7 via bluetooth. So, far no luck! i want to know if it is even posible with my zire? I recently purchased my zire via ebay. So, I have yet to hotsync! help me      Please! And, is this the best way for me to try to hotsync in the first place? I have tried repeatedly to hotsync via usb.....but no luck!
    Post relates to: Zire 31

The Zire31 does not have a BlueTooth radio in it... The method you are trying will not work.
There are no USB drivers in Vista64 or Win7 64 bit, so syncing via a cable is out too.
Your option is using IrDA (Beaming).  Please read the large "Windows7 and Vista HotSync instructions here" thread for some guidance.

Sorry to repeat this ageless thread but I am lost. I tried following the instructions previously posted by downloading Palm Desktop 6.2.2 and the pimlico, this failed to sync. Programs seemed to load ok but the hotsync stilled failed. It was suggested to do a clean uninstall of the palm desktop program files. However, the only instruction I can find are fro XP or Vista, nothing about Windows 7. Am I just not looking in the right place or is this so old I'm just SOL?

If the folder doesn't exist, then create it using a Card Reader connected to your computer.   Any SD card formatted in the Palm device itself will create the above folder, plus /AUDIO (for music files) and /DCIM (for pictures and videos).
