Zire 31 ebook reader problem

I've been using a program labeled arpos_winv20enu (file version 2.11.15.0) on my Zire 31 for a few years now. I started using it because no other software would read italics on my device. Everything worked well together for a while and then I couldn't Hot Sync without running this software each time, no matter what I did. I didn't care as long as I was able to get my ebooks on my Zire. Now, however, when I try to run this software it won't go through the Wizard application to completion like it's always done before. Nothing happens whatsoever, so now I can't Hot Sync at all, put new books on my handheld, etc. I don't remember now where I even got this software to redownload it, though I do know it had to be either information from forums here or at Adobe, so I'm leaving messages in both places hoping to find an answer to the all-around problem.
Does anyone know if this software even still exists? If it does, do you know where I might get it again?
Or is there new software that will now read italics for the Zire 31? I know that was an issue a few years ago and that's what led me to the current software I use, but since I've been happy, I haven't checked any further.
Or is there just another solution altogether that will help with my italics problem?

You are referring to Adobe Reader for Palm OS. It pobably is on your install CD that came with your Zire 31. If not, you can download it free from Adobe by selecting "Palm OS" on THIS page.
This program converts pdf files to a form the handheld can view, but it hasn't been updated by Adobe in a long time. You can try a free newer program that reads native pdf format (you would use a card reader to transfer the files to your flash memory card. The program is called Palmpdf and is available HERE.

LR (2.7) and Nook ebook reader Problem

I recently purchased a Barnes and Noble Nook to read ebooks on.
The problem is that when I plug the nook into the computer, LR (2.7) starts up and tries to import photos.
I deleted the only "photo" file from the Nook (a book cover image) figuring that would solve the problem, but now LR starts up and displays a message "There are no photos to import". (WELL DUH!!!)
I also checked in my LR preferences, and opening import dialogue when a memory card is inserted is still unchecked.
Any solution? It is rather annoying!
(And yes - Barnes and Noble did say it was an ADOBE problem, not a NOOK problem.)

Change your autorun settings for the device in your OS. LR is an innocent bystander in this case.

Problems with authorizing ebook reader

Hello!
I bought a Kobo ebook reader. When I try to authorize my reader via ADE with my Adobe ID I get an error message "activationserver error, Code:E_AUTH_NOT_READY". I need to authorize it to copy ebooks on it. What should I do? Is it a problem of ADE?

over, and expecting a different result.
I had the same issue - and eventually I was able to get through. If your
computer has both a LAN interface and wireless, try whichever one you are
not using normally and see if that changes anything. Sometimes it does -
sometimes not.

Plug in second eBook reader, can't read library book on PC

I'm not quite sure how flexible overdrive Library loans using ADE are meant to be, so maybe I'm trying to do something I shouldn't, but the behaviour is very odd.
I have been using my local library and reading loaned books on a Bookeen Opus; using ADE as a necessary intermediary.
This has worked fine (apart from an ADE irritation mentioned in another post, but that is pretty much a side-effect).
I can read the books on the PC if I want to (which I generally don't), and on the eBook reader.
My wife recently got a second reader (Sony PRS-350) which we have registered with the same Adobe id.
I have transferred a bought DRM book to it and that worked fine, we can read it on PC or either reader.
However, I am getting very odd effects with library books.
I've transferred books from her library account and mine onto the PC, and on to the first reader.
No problems, all behaved as before.
BUT ... when I plug the new reader into the computer, ADE gets upset and refuses to go near any of the library books.
When I try to copy a library book to the reader, I get a message 'CE_COPY_NOT_ALLOWED - No permission to copy the book.'
And when I try to read one on the PC with the new reader plugged in, I get 'Unable to open ... No record for this loan is found on this machine.'
Unplug the new reader and I can read the book on the PC; but obviously can't copy it.
Is this a feature of ADE and Adobe DRM rules on library books, or a bug in ADE, or a problem specifically with the Sony, or ...???
Googling gave me various people with 'No record for this loan is found on this machine' issues, but they all seemed different.
I guess I could install ADE on another machine with another adobeId for my wife, and register her reader with that id, but that seems a bit complicated. And not possible for lots of people who don't have a second PC.
Can anyone suggest a way around it?

You should not make generalizations based on your experiences with
DRM-protected library ebooks that don't allow copying and then say ADE
won't copy ebooks to a PRS-350. That's not true. I have a PRS-350 and I
am able to transfer ebooks to it via ADE. The difference is DRM
protection, which you've overlooked in your previous postings. THAT is
preventing your copying an ebook via ADE to any ereader.
I didn't say ADE wouldn't copy DRM-protected books, I said that it wouldn't copy DRM protected library books.
As I had mentioned in previous postings, it will transfer other DRM protected books with precisely the same copy protection information (except for the time expiry on the library books).
I should have been more precise: ADE 2.0.67532 won't copy Overdrive library books borrowed from Hampshire County Library to my Sony PRS-350 on my machine with Sony Reader 2.0.01.11080 installed. Others have similar issues. As Triantiwontigongolope20notes above, My Sony ereader worked fine with the old version of ADE but the new version is causing all sorts of problems. If you have sucessfully transferred DRM Overdrive books to your PRS-350 using ADE, can you please let us know the version level of ADE and Sony Reader (it's probably the underlying driver software which it installs that matters) you have installed? That might help us narrow down the bug that undoubtably exists.

How do I get my Sony ebook reader to show up ("be recognized") in the top left corner of the window. It never shows up and I cannot transfer books from my Mac computer to ADE. I am using Sony Reader Library but it is developing problems!! Can anyone assist??

No solution yet. One would think that Adobe would recognize that several complaints have been reported on this problem. Obviously, nobody knows how to fix it!! Sorry I can't be helpful!!

Aobe ID is not excepted by PC, only by ebook reader? Why?

I bought a tolino ebook reader, bought 3 books from Weltbild, downloaded the files as acsm. Established an Adobe ID, had already another ID with Weltbild. After several attemps a could copy the downloaded acsm files from my PC to the ebook reader. There it was possible to make them readable as epub files. I tried the same on my PC, nothing was accepted. My Adobe ID was not accepted so that I could read no file. I have no idea what happened with die DRM trash.
Cab somebody help me?

Adobe Reader cannot open these file types; only pdf files.
You may need to use Adobe Digital Editions, and post in that forum if you continue to have problems.

ovi doesn't have any readers i can find
pls suggest a compatible ebook reader for the n8

How to authorize an ebook reader on ADE?

I downloaded Adobe Digital Editions from the website so that I can borrow ebooks via the public library system. I was able to authorize my computer, but can't figure out how to authorize by ebook reader (Kobo Touch) - without authorizing the device, I can't transfer the ebooks from my Mac to the Kobo Touch. Any information on how to authorize the ebook reader would be appreciated!

I too am having this same problem but I have not seen ANY solutions for it. Looks like Apple is ignoring it!!!!!!!!?

Trackpad has nothing to do with any of the applications installed or microsd card. My first recommendation is, if it still in warranty get it replaced, as it is related to BB manufaturing problem itself. Otherwise try to update it through Desktop Software, if there is any new update available.

MobiPocket (ebook-Reader) on E61

Hi,
I´ve installed the MobiPocket Reader on my E61, an ebook-reader. Next I´ve downloaded a few ebooks (in *.txt format) from Project Gutenberg. But I can´t seem to open those from the MobiPocket Reader application - when I press , I´m only given the option of connecting to the MobiPocket website on the internet which I don´t want. And of course I can´t open it from the File Manager because then they are recognized as notes and displayed accordingly.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix that?

I use the MobiPocket on my E63. You have to down load the Mobipocket software, that is mobipocket creator on your pc and reformat the book in the mobipocket format, which is quite easy. Works like a dream, really fast. My only problem is I cant use the 'Find'/'search' function on my phone, which makes some of the text books i load quite useless. Any suggestions?

Difficult to find the adobe ebook reader

Good evening, sorry to trouble, but I have a problem. I downloaded an ebook from www.ibs.it. ... next to the name of the book was written that I had to download Adobe Digital Edition ... I downloaded, I put the book.
I closed Adobe, I connected with a USB cable to my Sony eBook Reader PRS-T1 I opened Adobe, but this program does not find me .... my readers and therefore can not download the book ... anyone can help me ... I do not know what to do .... thanks a lot

I think you're relatively new to the ebook world. Just a guess, so forgive
me if you're an old hand.
When you buy an ebook reader such as a SONY, you are encouraged to go to
their website and register it with them. Ditto with Adobe Digital
Editions. And, to make things simpler yet, if you use the same User ID and
password with both sites, it makes it much easier when you want the ereader
and Digital Editions to interact. You indicate that you plugged in the T-1
first, then brought Digital Editions up, but the T-1 did not show up. To
clarify, if the computer recognizes the device, it will place it in its
device list - probably as an external hard drive or some other device that
has some storage in it. That has to happen first, if Digital Editions is
going to recognize the device. So, when you connected the T-1, did you get
any messages from Windows saying that it found a new device, and that it
was ready to use? If you did the first time, then the next time, Windows
won't tell you anything, but you can look for the device in Windows
Explorer (NOT Internet Explorer) or by using Windows Control Panel. Once
this is done, you can bring up Digital Editions. If Digital Editions
recognizes the device, it will show it in the Bookshelf pane (left hand
side) of the Library view. If it's not there, you can try to add your T-1
to Digital Editions' authorized list manually, by using the control key
combinations that are explained in Digital Editions Help (F1 key). That
'should' work, but there's no guarantee. Try it and see....

Cannot activate my computer with my Adobe ID after having activated my ebook reader

I cannot activate my computer with my Adobe ID after having activated my ebook reader with the same ID. I get the error message: "You cannot authorize this computer with an Adobe ID that was previously used to authorize another compuer or moblie device". Shouldn't it be possible to use the same ID on more than just one device? I would like to read the same book on my ebook reader and on my computer.

Unfortunately, you de-authorized your computer but NOT your items.
Once a book is accessed on one ID, it cannot be used on another ID.
I am afraid you may be stuck ... if you are lucky the vendors will give you a second chance.

This is a vicious trap that Adobe lays for unsuspecting customers.
When you register 'without ID', ADE creates an anonymous/implicit ID with limited powers (eg can't be used to share with other devices).
Whenever you first load a DRM book, that copy of the book is associated with whatever ID the computer is registered to at the time.
Any book you load while this anonymous ID is active gets associated with that ID, and can't be read on any other device.
When you properly register your computer with a real ID, that old anonymous ID is lost.
Now you don't have any devices that can read the book.
I think that even if you de-authorize again and revert to anynomous authorization, it will be a different anonymous ID, but worth a try.
Not helpful for you if reverting to anonymous doesn't help, but general comment that might help other readers .....
The only way I know round this is to use a DRM stripper such as epubee BEFORE you deauthorize the device.
I do NOT advocate using such code to get around the valid limitations placed on a DRM book.
However, where the problem arises only because of the ineptness of Adobe's ADEPT DRM infrastructure and its implementation,
such a measure is totally justifiable.

Looking for ebook reader app with good annotation features

I'm looking for an ebook reader app to use on my iPhone and iPad that will allow me to do this:
1. In a book, Highlight a selection of text, and make that a note or annotation
2. Be able to see all my annotations/notes for a book in one place
3. And here's the one I can't seem to find: Be able to generate a file with JUST my annotations in it so that I can save it off or email it or dropbox it or something like that.
Does anyone know of such an app?
