Thanks much for the info on Vista Quick Installer.   I just downloaded it from BT SOLVED but it won't let me even test it unless I pay for it.    I just got a new PC with Vista on it and have a Zire 71.    How can I be sure it will work before I purchase it?   Has anyone tried this yet?
Thank you SO much.....

  • Palm Quick Install in Windows 7

        OK I have posted that you can use the Palm desktop 4 versions on windows 7 and they work. They do but the only way to load a file was to right click on it and chose send to / Palm Powered (TM) Handheld. I decided to see if I could make everything work normally. I managed to accomplish it. I did not need to hack the registry either. The first problem was getting the Palm Quick Install icon to show up on the desktop and then open up the program. When I loaded the TX software on two other computers it did not load with the Palm Desktop and DTG icons.
    1: I went to start/all programs/palm folder/ and right clicked on the Palm Quick Install and sent it to the desktop. It went there but would not open on one of the computers. I tried a couple of times. I then right clicked on the icon and choose Restore Previous Versions. I chose the compatibility tab and selected the help me choose the settings. I did this several times and also rebooted the computer and unchecked the open with administrator in properties. I was finally rewarded with the Palm Quick install opening up when I clicked on it.
    2. Clicking on a palm file or dragging it into the Palm Quick install application had no effect. A warning came up stating (There was a problem sending the command to the program.) I plugged this into Google and came up with several sites. There is in Vista and 7 a file association of some sort missing. I was reading on how to hack into the registry and really did not want to waste any more time on it. I was about to give up when I decided to attempt a Microsoft solution. They have all kinds of fixit registry programs for all kinds of tasks. I typed in Microsoft file type fixit in Google. They have a little program that scans your system and then gives you several choices to select. I selected them all when the choice came up. When it finished I exited out of the web page and clicked on a palm file. It worked. I deleted the file and attempted to drag it into the Palm Quick Install this also worked. File and Folder fixit

    Great!  Glad to help.
    AFAIK, there is no such version - 6.2.2 is the latest Access made before ceasing support for the program.
    MicroSoft has had a typo on their support site for a long time now.  Is this the version number you are referring to?

  • Best way to install XP AND Vista

    Being an accountant, my girlfriend has no choice BUT to have a windows partition on her macbook. Even worse, she HAS to have XP AND Vista installed. What's the best way to do this?
    I assume there's no way to create 2 boot camp partitions on one OS X partition.
    But what if I created 3 partitions via Leopard's Disk Utility, using one for OS X, one for XP, and one for Vista?
    Or can I only install a windows OS through bootcamp? Meaning no windows without Leopard?
    Is my only option to create an extra large boot camp partition and then partition that partition via the windows install?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    Just got an x200s with Vista installed. I would love to do a clean install of XP. I've noticed 2 other partitions. Lenovo describes them as ->
    C: is your available file storage space.
    S: holds critical start up (booting) information.
    Q: contains the critical data needed for system recovery.
    Okay. So if I want to do a clean install of XP on my system, are either S or Q needed if I never use Vista again? And what would be the best/safest way to install XP on my machine? I don't want to delete anything that cannot be replaced or is vital to functioning of the machine under XP.
    Thanks!
    im not too sure about "S" but "Q" wont be needed anymore if u dont intend to use Vista anymore. "Q" will restore your system to Vista state if you perform recovery. before you start, remember to backup all the stuff u need. If you have a XP disc, just insert it into the drive (make sure your boot sequence is set to detect optical drive 1st) and perform a format on C drive. avoid using the quick format. after formatting it, just follow the instruction on screen and install XP. i doubt there are any safe method to install XP. pretty straight forward thing.

  • Reader for Palm OS 3.05 and Vista

    I'm trying to install the programme to Vista, but the installer
    'aborts' after copying files. I find the processes running in my
    task manager, but there's no programme running in the Applications
    section. It never installs anything.
    Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did they work
    around it-and get the bloody thing to install?
    I'd really like to be able to read my e-books on my Palm T/X and
    synch them from my new PC, which uses Windows Vista with all the
    most recent patches.
    Any advice would be most welcome.
    Kind regards,
    Niniri

    I used to checkout ebooks books from my old library to read on my Palm, but after I moved I found that my new library didn't offer them yet. Well, my library finally started making Adobe ebooks available for checkout, and I ran into this same problem. The instructions on the library website helped me fix it though http://overdrive.chipublib.org/F15652B9-E6EE-47B0-8CD5-179ACD3CB69D/10/305/en/Help-Reader -Format50.htm.
    It explains that you can't transfer files to a PDA with Adobe Reader 8, so you have to uninstall version 8 & then install version 7 instead.
    Here's some of the information they have on the site: "If you use Adobe Reader to transfer Adobe eBooks to your PDA, or if you use downloaded Adobe eBooks on multiple computers, it is recommended that you not install Adobe Reader 8 with ADE. Adobe Reader 8 with Adobe Digital Editions do not currently support transfer to PDAs or Named Activation, the process that allows the sharing of eBooks between multiple computers.
    Note that Adobe Reader 6 or 7 may check for updates and download Adobe Reader 8 automatically depending on your current settings....You have to turn off automatic updates, so this doesn't happen.
    Click here, or visit http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2_allversions.html, to go to the Adobe Reader download page.
    The 'Download new and previous versions of Adobe Reader' screen is displayed.
    Complete 'Step 1 of 2' by selecting your 'Operating System', 'Version', and 'Language' from the dropdown menus. If you have Windows Vista, select 'Windows XP SP2' as your Operating System."
    I did what they recommended & so far everything is working fine. I did get a message saying that version 7 has a known compatability issue with Vista, but like I said it's working so far.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate Quick Install for Tungsten E2

    Well, I have a Tungsten E2, which I use commenly, but not often. I just got a my dad's old computer for Christmas (which is a huge upgrade from mine, which was made in the 1990's I think), and he got me Windows Vista Ultimate for it. I can do everything with it; Palm Desktop, Hotsync, etc. except for using Palm Quick Install. I really don't feel like posting a picture, so I will just describe it. First I have to allow it to run, and then it checks Microsoft for a solution to use it. After that it says "palmOne Quick Install has stopped working
    A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.

  • Windows 7 and Vista hotsync instructions here

    Recently I have seen a lot of older devices and the question asked. How to hotsync my device to Windows 7 or Windows Vista? Well there are three ways.
    First is good old USB. This depends on if your new OS is a 32bit system. How to tell if your OS is a 32bit system, go to: Start-->Right click on Computer or My Computer and select Properties. Look for the System Type. If it says 32bit then all you need to do is download Palm Desktop 6.2.2 (Download Here) and a 3rd party program from Pimlico Software located here: http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/, and look for a free program at the bottom of the page called: “PalmHotSyncSetup”.
    [UPDATE]  Aceeca has come out with 64bit drivers for PalmOS devices!  It works with Vista64 and Windows 7 64bit versions!  See this thread for download links:   64bit Drivers are HERE!
    If you have a 64bit OS below is the only two options you have to sync your Palm OS device. If your computer does not have a Bluetooth or IR adaptor be sure to get one that is compatible to the PC you are using.
    Second is Bluetooth. Now if your handheld has a Bluetooth radio you can hotsync though this and not have to worry if you have a 32bit or 64bit OS. To set this up download Palm Desktop 6.2.2 and then look up this link: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/49229_en.html. Depending on your PC you may need to buy a Bluetooth dongle or adaptor. Be sure to get one that is compatible with your system.
    Third and last is IR or aka Infrared. This is for the older handheld that do not have Bluetooth. You will need to have an IR port on your computer or find an IR dongle or adaptor for your PC as well. Once you have one look at this link to see how to set one up: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/1941_en.html

    1)     If you have a Windows 7 version that is compatible with the Windows XP Mode (Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate), go to the Microsoft website and download Virtual PC and the Windows XP Mode application files (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx). Install both;
     2)    Install Palm desktop while in the Windows XP Mode;
     3)    Launch the hot synchronization manager while in the XP Mode;
     4)     Connect the handheld using the USB cable;
     5)      Make sure that the handheld is listed under the USB option in the Windows XP Mode toolbar on the top of the screen (you may have to expand the XP Mode window to see it);
     6)      Start the hot synchronization operation;
     7)      Go back to the USB option in the Windows XP Mode toolbar and choose “Add” for the Palm devise.
    This will start the hot synchronization all right. Tip: If you choose "Add" before starting the syncronization operation, it will not work; follow the sequence above. Obs.: I used the older version of Palm desktop (4.2).
    Also as a heads up we do not support Windows 7. The directions here are to help and give a work around for this OS.

    Did you have a Bluetooth adaptor before you installed Palm Desktop?
    You may need to do a clean uninstall. Here is the directions on how to do that:
    You should first make a copy of your data. If you have Palm Desktop 4.2 and lower you can copy your user folder by going to C:\Program files\Palm or PalmOne. Once in here look for your username and right click on it and copy it. Then open up My Documents and Pasting it in here. If you have Palm Desktop 6.2.2 go to My Documents/Documents --> Palm OS Desktop. Copy the folder(s) in here and Paste them in My Documents/Documents
    Now you will need to uninstall Palm Desktop. First go to Control Panel and in XP go to Add and Remove documents, in Vista Programs and Features. Then look for Palm Desktop and uninstall it. Then go to C:\Program files\Palm or C:\Program files\PalmOne and delete this folder. If you have Vista you will need to go to here:
    C:\Program files\Palm
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\Palm or PalmOne
    *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go into your Control Panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck hide hidden files.
    One this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of your self see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything they need to delete. To help against this we need to do a backup.
    Go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    Easiest way to make sure your doing the right one highlight the key i.e. Palm Quick Install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The Registry keys are as follows (Note: some of these Registry keys will not be here but if they are, delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you did not sync before create a hotsync name.

    Palm desktop 6.2 was designed for Vista but has reported data loss. If Palm desktop is left open when the system does an update or is shut down, it can lose data. Palm desktop 4.1.4e should work on Vista and will not see the data loss.
    What version Vista are you running? On the PC, right click on my computer or the computer icon in Vista. Go to properties and look on the screen for the version, is it 32 or 64 bit?

    I'm new here so if this has been covered somewhere just let me know where to look.
    I just purchased a Z22 and I haven't opened the box yet.  I want to make sure that it is compatible with Vista.  I downloaded PalmdesktopWin62 and ran the install.  It stopped partway through and said it could not upgrade the version already installed.  Well, I haven't installed anything yet.  but if I go to Control Panel, it shows that Palm software has been loaded (I suspect it is really showing the partial installation I was running) but when I try to uninstall it, I eventually get the message that dll PalmdevC is missing and the uninstall terminates.

  • Using VMWare Fusion and Vista for NetFlix Watch Now

    Hi, I have installed Fusion and Vista in order to use NetFlix's Watch Now feature on my MBA. The installation was easy and Vista seems to be working fine. However, I can't get the Watch Now movie going. The film will start (after NetFlix determines my internet speed, etc.) and alternate between play and pause. Has anyone used this combination with success? Would a downgrade to XP work better? Or I should just use Boot Camp? Thanks.

    I've used WinXP with Fusion on a MacMini and it was fine (but faster in BootCamp). I'm currently running Vista Business on a MacBook Pro in Parallels and while it isn't slow, it certainly is slower than in BootCamp. I expect Fusion would run Vista a bit faster - Fusion does tend to be a bit faster than Parallels but Parallels seems to get along better than Fusion with one of the applications I'm using.
    There are advantages to BootCamp and BC isn't incompatible with virtualization. I suggest that you go ahead and install Vista in BootCamp. If you haven't already bought Fusion, download the demo and see how it runs using the BootCamp installation and compare that to BootCamp itself. Then decide.

    The downloadable Desktop 6.2.2 for Vista has a replacement to Quick Install that does work - but the Desktop itself is truly terrible and loses many other functions (Expense, NotePad, VersaMail, colour-coded events, Birthdays and Anniversaries) that you may have come to expect from your Desktop.
    If your current Desktop is otherwise working as expected, you should know that an alternative to Quick Install already exists on your machine and this does work on Vista. The easiest way to access it is to right-click the program you wish to install, then  > Send to... > Palm Powered Handheld. This is a shortcut to the program instapp in the Palm folder.
    An installation window will pop up (a UAC confirmation *may* pop up and can be dismissed) showing the chosen program ready for Hotsync. At this point you may also Add other programs/files. Hotsync when ready.
    A further alternative that I understand works with Vista is the freeware Pilot Install (  http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/simplyinstall-pilotinstall.shtml ) and which bypasses Palm's software entirely.
    Hope this helps!

  • Help re: Palm Zire 31 and Vista

    Hi- I can't get my palm and Vista to hotsync.  "the connection cannot be established." and " software not found"  I've downloaded the 6.2 version and still no luck. I have spent so much time trying to figure this out and I'm getting nowhere!Help!
    Post relates to: Zire 31

    Same question we ask everyone else who asks this question - which version of Vista?  32bit or 64bit?
    64bit Vista can only be synced by a wireless method.  See the many sticky threads in the Windows HotSync section.
