ZLM 7.3 on ESXi 4.0

Just curious to see if anyone has set this up ? I'm having time sync issues with my Primary. Just wondering if anyone else has run into this issue.
I've followed VMware kb with no success. Funny thing is ndsrepair -T reports no sync issues. However, iMonitor indicates major issues.
Thanks

  • Error "A web exception has occurred during file upload" when trying to import ESXi image file into Update Manager

    I'm encountering this error and not sure how to fix, I'm quite new to vCenter so please bear with me.
    I'm trying out vCenter 5.1 with Update Manager 5.1 right now.  No license key has been entered and I still have 50 odd days to try it out.
    2 ESXi hosts are being managed by this vCenter, and they're both running ESXi 4.0
    I'm looking to use Update Manager to try to upgrade the ESXi 4.0 hosts to ESXi 5.1
    I downloaded the image file VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso from VMWare website, and is looking to import it using the Update Manager so I can update the ESXi hosts, but I keep on getting the error:
    File name:     VMware-VIMSetup-all-5.1.0-799735.iso
    Failed to transfer data
    Error was: A web exception has occurred during file upload
    I tried importing it by using vSphere client to connect to vCenter server both remotely and locally, with firewall disabled.
    I've read http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1026602
    I've disabled firewall, and there is no anti-virus program on the server.  I've also restarted the machine several times, to no avail, I didn't reinstall update manager because the whole Windows and VCenter installations are clean from scratch.
    I logged into the vSphere Client using Active Directory credentials, and I've made all Domain Admins (which my account is a member of) part of the administrator group on the vCenter server. I can't log in using admin@System-Domain because it tells me I don't have permissions for it, I still haven't really had the chance to figure out why that is and not sure if that makes a difference.
    Also, I'm fairly certain I'm using the right image file, as I've burned some DVD's used that image file to upgrade some other ESXi hosts.  Unless there's a special image file I need to download?
    I'm at lost on what I can do to make it work.  Please advise.
    Thanks.

    The ISO file you mentioned is the one for vCenter Server. What you need is the "VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.1.0-799733.x86_64.iso" (or VMware-VMvisor-Installer-201210001-838463.x86_64.iso) for the ESXi host.

  • ZLM 7.3 - zlmmirror: patches stored in wrong folder

    I'm trying to perform a zlmmirror from a primary server in one management zone to a primary server in a different management zone. The catalogs and package bundles were created in the proper folder, but all the patches are being stored in the base folder and not in separate folders like the original primary server.
    For example, on the original primary ZLM server:
    Bundles/Prod/OS/
    -> SLES10-SP3-Updates-patches (Folder)
    -> SLES11-Updates-patches (Folder)
    -> SLES10-SP3-Updates-bundle (RPM Package Bundle)
    -> SLES11-Updates-bundle (RPM Package Bundle)
    -> SLES10-SP3-Updates-i586 (Catalog)
    -> SLES10-SP3-Updates-x86_64 (Catalog)
    On the new primary ZLM server:
    Bundle/Prod/OS
    -> SLES10-SP3-Updates-bundle (RPM Package Bundle)
    -> SLES11-Updates-bundle (RPM Package Bundle)
    -> SLES10-SP3-Updates-i586 (Catalog)
    -> SLES10-SP3-Updates-x86_64 (Catalog)
    -> patch-slesp1-apache2-mod_python-4449_SLES10-SP3-Update (Patch)
    -> ....
    -> patch-slesp1-rsync-4798_SLES10-SP3-Update (Patch)
    -> patch-slesp1-sapinit-4913_SLES10-SP3-Update (Patch)
    The patch folders, on the original primary ZLM server, were created from downloading the patches from Novell. They were not manually created. I'm curious why the structure wasn't retained during our internal mirroring?

    The folder paths hierarchy at the remote server is not maintained while zlm-zlm mirroring . It is currently designed to follow only user defined folder structure as set in mirror config file, uses to fetch the each assigned catalog , its bundles type objects and dumps them in local server specified folder path .

    Hi,
    At which specific percentage will the setup hang? Vuk is right above, but it's really hard to say what's the cause of your case.
    Please first take a look at this KB article and see if it is helpful for you:
    Microsoft Office 2013 or Office 365 hangs during setup
    I would suggest you go and check the setup log files to troubleshoot the issue, which is the best way to narrow down the issue I think.

  • Memory on ESXI 5.1

    Dear All,
    my Lab ESXI has 16GB memory and I7 Processor, however i run out of memory and my MOBO doesnt support more than 16GB,
    i was thinking to buy SSD HDD to use it as memory,
    is this possibly on ESXI ? if yes how can i configure it ?
    thank you

    You could buy an SSD and use it as cache/page file. ESXi Host > Configuration > Under Software, Host Cache Configuration.
    Here's a good article to read: http://www.yellow-bricks.com/2011/08/18/swap-to-host-cache-aka-swap-to-ssd/

  • Unable to ping ESXI host

    I have an out of state Esxi 4.1 host that is working fine with 12 virtual servers on it. The problem is I cannot ping (IP or name) or connect to it using vSphere from my current location. The only machines which see the host are the VMs it is hosting. So to connect I have to remote desktop to one of the VMs and run vSphere from there. Any idea why I can't connect from other PCs on the network?

    Welcome to the Community,
    that's interesting. From what you say, the Management Network on the host seems to be working fine. Can you please provide some information about the host's virtual network configuration as well as the physical switch port(s) configuration?
    What's the result of running "Test Management Network" from the host's DCUI? Maby restarting the Management Network will help!?

  • VNICs (both uplinks and VM's vNIC) are blocked on N5K DVS after upgrading to ESXi 5.1

    Hello Gents,
    I cought into weird situation after upgrade VMware ESXi 5.0 to 5.1 on UCS C200M2. Before upgrade I have had server with configured static adapter-fex VNICS and floating/dynamic vm-fex interfaces working perfectly in DirectPathIO mode for VMs. Initial deployment was done according Cisco N5K VM-fex operation guide for   NX-OS 5.1(3)N1(1). There were vCenter 5.1, 2xN5K and 2xC200M with ESXi 5.0 integrated so that N5K DVS was brought to vCenter and hosts could be added to DVS. One of C200M2 (still on ESXi5.0) has no problem while operating VM-Fexs and adapter-fexs while part of its uplinks are on VSS and othe part on DVS (in fact there are none VMs on VSS, so all the workloads use DVS).
    But upgraded C200M cannot operate with DVS correctly: any vmks, vm networks, VMs connected to DVS lose network connectivity.
    Attached picture illustrates diag of connectivity status (uplinks/ets are blocked).
    VEM are fresh and running:

    Do anybody have an idea why it is going wrong?

    Of course they exist.There is unpatched server with ESXi 5.0 near upgraded server and it works perfectly.
    Finally I downgraded server to ESXi5.0 again and VM-FEX functionality restored.

  • Windows 7 client can't connect to Server 2008 R2 Print Server VM (ESXi 5.5)

    I have an issue today that is driving me bonkers.
    I recently came on-board to a company in my area as the system administrator and this network has everything and the kitchen sink wrong with the network layout, probably the worst I've seen and I'm slowly but surely fixing it day by day.....
    Well today I decided I was going to spin up another VM from a template and make a Print Server, seems harmless right? --- I thought so too, added all of the printers to the server and did test pages, all was dandy, but then I tried to add the printers to
    clients and other server and the real fun has begun, I'm truly perplexed now...
    I added a VM to my esxi 5.5 cluster at work that is a 2008 R2 server with only print management on it. I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via
    DNS. I can test printers directly from the print server successfully printing out test pages however whenever I try to map printers you know from the directory in 'devices and printers' from any of the Windows 7 clients or any of the other 2003/2008 servers
    I get the classical "Windows cannot connect please check the network connection and make sure sure the printer is turned on". I disabled the windows firewall and I made the point to print GPO set to disabled and still no luck. Again I can print to
    all of the printers internally inside of the VM (so I know it communicating to all of the printers), I just can't connect to the printers listed in the directory on any of external desktop/client, it's like so annoying. spent about 6 hours until my brain just
    couldn't think anymore, was about to go BS on the VM.
    The only thing I can think of, as I was driving home, is that there is a GPO on one of the DC that has a desginated print server policy set. But prior to last week the forest leve was 2000 and now it's 2003. I just don't know Server 2000 enough to know if GPO's
    worked in the same way they do in 2003.
    Right now printers are connected to other servers in a ad hoc mentality it seems, there has never been a true print server.
    Anyone ever have this problem before?
    I'm truly puzzled...

    Hi Mid.Hudson-IT,
    Before we begin ,we should ensure we have configured the printer server correctly .
    Here is a link for reference of configuring the printer server .
    Print server role: Configuring a print server
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc775791(v=ws.10).aspx
    "I can map all of the printers on the network to the print server as-well as install the drivers correctly and I can resolve the IP and server name via DNS"
    From this sentence ,I can`t figure out whether you have tried to ping the server both with the IP adress and name adress from the client ?
    If we can ping the print server from the client,we can ensure the connection to the printer server is good .
    Then we can try to install the printer driver directly to have a check .In the adress bar of Windows Explorer ,input "\\server name \the printer name"
    If we cannot ping the print server ,we should troubleshoot the network issue firstly.
    We also can check the event viewer for more information to troubleshoot this issue .
    Best regards

  • How to move from vmware ESXi 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2 on same hardware?

    I have Vmware ESXi 5.5 Update 1 with two disks, called RAID0 (3.6 TB) and RAID5 (10.9 TB).
    I am tired of having to rebuild ESXi every sixty days for home use so I am planning on moving to Hyper-V, but I'm a little nervous. I don't have swing kit, so will have to repurpose my existing 1 year old quite powerful machine (Intel i7 32 Gb RAM two sets
    of RAID storage internal), 3 NICs. Features I need from VMware are:
    Ability to snapshot and revert to snapshot (running and stopped VM)
    Ability to move VMs between my different storage areas (RAID0 and RAID5)
    Ability to set up internal networks to the Hyper-V host so I can set up virtual labs on their own virtual networks
    USB pass through to the VM
    Auto start VMs with the host.
    Auto shut down VMs with the host.
    Templating of OSs - mainly Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2, but also Centos 7. Can I convert my ESXi templates to Hyper-V?
    Good performance from both Windows and Linux machines
    Easy management from a workstation on the network.
    Install Hyper-V to USB flash drive plugged in to the server.
    Can Hyper-V do all that?
    Also, I have a migration plan. Will this work?
    In ESXi move all machines for migration from RAID5 to RAID0 storage.
    Install Hyper-V on the host to USB flash drive (16 GB)
    Format RAID5 storage so it can take vhds. (NTFS?)
    Set up networks - have three NICs on the host.
    Install management software on my workstation
    Convert VMware vmx machines on RAID0 storage to vhd based machines on RAID5 storage. How to do this? My machines vary from v8,9 to vmx10.
    Power on VMs and perform checks.
    Any comments? I'm particularly concerned about the conversion process from VMware to Hyper-V and the reliability of it. Total size of VMs to convert is just under 3 TB.

    Hi Mark. The short answer is yes to all. The more detailed answer is:
    Make sure you're installing Windows 2012 R2 on the bare metal. All the following refers to 2012 R2.
    I recommend you take some time and go through the
    Hyper-V Best Practices Guide
    Ability to snapshot and revert to snapshot (running and stopped VM) => yes, standard feature. Keep in mind this is meant to be a short term measure, not something you keep around for long time.
    Ability to move VMs between my different storage areas (RAID0 and RAID5) => yes, storage migration is a standard feature that allows you to migrate a VM storage while the VM is running.
    Ability to set up internal networks to the Hyper-V host so I can set up virtual labs on their own virtual networks => yes. An external vSwitch is one that's attached to a physical NIC. I recommend you review Hyper-V networking. It's a bit different than
    VMWare.
    USB pass through to the VM => not exactly. Some work around options exist, including sharing the USB drive on the host.
    Auto start VMs with the host => yes, standard VM setting. You get to choose per VM whether to always start, start if it was already running, never start, or start with a given delay.
    Auto shut down VMs with the host => yes (like save state) - defined in each VM setting
    Templating of OSs - mainly Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2, but also Centos 7. Can I convert my ESXi templates to Hyper-V => yes, native in VMM, plenty of Powershell examples available online. Manual steps in Hyper-V Manager to re-use a
    sys-prepped OS image is also available.
    Good performance from both Windows and Linux machines => yes, depends mostly on hardware
    Easy management from a workstation on the network => yes, from a Win 8.1 workstation, install RSAT
    Install Hyper-V to USB flash drive plugged in to the server => yes. 16 GB is a bit small. I recommend a pair of mirrored 128GB SATA SSDs - should be inexpensive.
    In ESXi move all machines for migration from RAID5 to RAID0 storage => All you need for migration is the VMDK files for each VM. VM should be offline.
    Install Hyper-V on the host to USB flash drive (16 GB) => see recommendation about a pair of boot SSDs above.
    Format RAID5 storage so it can take vhds. (NTFS?) => yes, NTFS, 64KB allocation unit
    Set up networks - have three NICs on the host => in a single host environment / lab, you'll use 1 NIC on a single external vSwitch I guess. Or you can NIC team them then attach vSwitch to team.
    Install management software on my workstation => RSAT on Win 8.1
    Convert VMware vmx machines on RAID0 storage to vhd based machines on RAID5 storage. How to do this? My machines vary from v8,9 to vmx10. => try
    MVMC 3
    Power on VMs and perform checks. => no comment :)
    Did I mention the

  • Install CUCM 8.6 on VMWARE ESXi 5.0 Failed

    Dear All,
    I want to install CUCM 8.6 on Virtual Machine. I'm using VMWARE ESXi 5.0 version for the VM server.
    The installation CUCM 8.6 failed with error says:
    "the hardware you are using is not supported for this prodcut"
    I already disable LRO on the host ESXi 5.0, but still failed.
    is need to install the VMTOOLs before I install CUCM?
    CUCUM 8.6 support VMWARE Version ESXi 5.0?
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Krisna

    Actually for CUCM 8.5 and before it's RHEL 4, for CUCM 8.6 it's RHEL 5 (32 bit).
    I used the available OVA for my lab and it worked fine:
    1 vCPU
    2304 MB RAM
    80 GB HDD
    Not sure about compatibility with ESXi 5 and the VM machine v8 but above works for ESXi 4.1.
    If it still doesn't work, try using the same settings as you would in a ESXi 4.1 install.

    What the heck..

    Hi mate,
    What does RTMT or CLI show about CPU memory and process usage?
    Probably should not affect GUI but is correct VMware tools installed as well?
    Once you verify apps check what VMware says about performance.
    What size ovas did you use? Are you over subscribed?
    How long have you waited? Is it just cups performing sync and hogging resources for example

  • Windows 2008 R2 / ESXi 5.5  - 10 GBit Network Performance

    Hallo,
    maybe my problem is by design, but I hope anybody has a solution to improve the transmission speed between Windows 2008 R2 Guests.
    In my Test-Environment I have 2 Windows 2008 R2 Guests on 2 ESXi Hosts with Intel 10 GBit Nics which are Cross-Connected.
    Between these VMs the maximimum transmission rate with iperf is 2.1 Gbits/s (Debian: 9.28  Gbits/s).

    Well, if you could reach 8.9 Gbits/s with these settings then I guess it's alright and I should rather say iperf requires a lot more custom tuning of options to reach a similar level of efficiency under Windows compared to it's Linux counterpart, which barely requires any custom options for maximum throughput.
    I have tried the psping utility and it achieved better results than untuned iperf tests, though results were mixed overall:

    Hi,
    We have a system installed with solaris 11 and created 4 luns and exported to ESXi via iSCSI.
    We could able to see 3 luns. One lun is not getting listed in ESXi under configuration --> storage adapters section.
    Is there any logs, we can check to troubleshoot this issue?
    We have created another lun and exported.We could see the newly created lun.However we could not see the old lun. Do you have any idea?

    Thanks Pat
    Please help me with the below queries :
    1) How should I check whether the extended font pack is installed on the server or not ?
    2) As per the Adobe extended packs link http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4885
    It says these extended packs are needed only if the reader of the document wishes to interact in some way with its content, for example, by collaborating, commenting, or filling out forms. Whereas in my case the exported pdf is just required for view purpose. So will it really be helpful ?

    I have gone through quite a few links related to the BCM5708 and one of the links suggested I turn of MSI-X in vmware.
    The link was kb.vmware.com/.../search.do;cmd=displayKC&externalId=1029070
    I have since reverted back because it did not help and I also read somewhere that MSI-X does not apply to the BCM5708.
    There were some other articles related to the BCM5708 and changing the Rx Buffer ring size value as per this URL "support.qlogic.com/.../2756;popup=true". The above setting did not help either. I went as high as 4080. The default was 255.
    The weird thing is that I have another server with the exact same hardware specs but it runs an older firmware and driver which I cannot seem to find and that's working fine. Just for reference the other working server (separate physical server) has the following firmware
    /var/log # ethtool -i vmnic1
    driver: bnx2
    version: 2.2.5f.v55.6
    firmware-version: bc 2.9.1
    bus-info: 0000:09:00.0
    Strangely the working server does not mention anything about UMP, which I believe is Universal Management Port, so am wondering if that is what is causing issues because even after updating firmware on the non-working server the UMP version has not changed. I believe BMC & IPMI are disabled on the non-working server but regardless the settings for that portion are similar across both devices except for the firmware version of the BMC which is lower on the working device. These are the settings for BMC on the non-working device
    Attribute
    Value
    Name
    Baseboard Management Controller
    IPMI Version
    2.0
    Number of Possible Active Sessions
    5
    Number of Current Active Sessions
    0
    Firmware Version
    2.37
    LAN Enabled
    No
    Can someone please advise what the issue might be and why is it that every few hours the VM associated with this vmnic0 get disconnected. vmnic1 on this same non-working server appears to be running absolutely fine without any issues. Thanks

    Hi Josh,
    This is a new install. The vmnic's are not going to the same vswitch. I am not using the dell version of ESXi but the other working server is also not using the dell version either. There are 2 vmnic's configured on this device and only one vmnic is having this issue. Currently there is only 1 VM on this ESXi machine. The other vmnic (working vmnic) is being used for mgmt to provide VMs with mgmt connectivity. Thx
