ZLM66 & VMware WS 4.5 problem

Hi
I recently installed ZLM66 on SLES9 and added my first workstation
without any problem. On this workstation, VMware Workstation 4.5.2 is
installed (and running). As soon as I activate the next machine in the
network that also runs VMware something strange happens:
- Alias "machine1", IP: 10.0.0.150 (<--- before 2nd activation)
- Alias "machine1", IP: 10.0.0.166 (<--- after 2nd activation)
The new machine is assigned the alias of the old one. And the old one
gets kicked out. On the machine summary page, the IP address shown is
still the one of the first machine, but the hardware and software tabs
shows all the info of the second machine.
I found out, that ZLM lists the network devices in reverse order (vnmet8,
vmnet1, lo, eth0). Unfortunately, the VMware-devices
(/dev/vmnet1, /dev/vmnet8) do always have the same MAC address. Does ZLM
just compare the MAC address of the first network device listed?
Thanks for help,
Daniel

Is you VMware shairing the NIC or are you masquarding with the host OS.
If you are masquarding then all system will look like the come from the
same IP.

    Hello,
This is my first post in the community so kindly inform me if there are some rules that i need to follow. Now getting to my problem.
I downloaded SAP Java trial vmware on suse linux. I extracted every this in one folder and ie all java trial rar and suse linux rars. When i start the virtual machine it starts and i press alt+f2 to see back ground processes.
After starting central instance and SCS it just keeps on showing various processes screen with port number 4076 in the last. And after sometime a blank screen with a underscore is present without any data on the screen.
But when i tried ABAP + Java trial version it started and worked fine. But i want only EP to practice.
My laptop  is AMD core 2 duo with 2 gb ram.
If i have provided less info or you want to know some other details kindly post. Any kind of guidance is very valuable to me.
    Regards,
    Elnino

    Hi Raghu,
Actually i am not even getting the login screen of Linux where i have to login using root. So i am unable to check anything.
Basically all instances gets started when i see the details using alt+f2 but after that it just shows several processes in list format and others and does not move forward.
I would post screen shot if possible.

  • VMWare Integration Pack SOAP Problems when trying to Runbook Tester

    All,
I am hoping somebody out there can give me some help and hopefully a resolution to my problem.
For several weeks now, I have been successfully using the VMware Integration Pack in Orchestrator. However, as I tried to make my Runbook's more user friendly by replacing fields with variables I encountered a problem.
When I now try to run my Runbook via the Runbook Tester when I start to step through I get the following error when I either try to step through the Clone Windows VM or left click on the Icon. (Actually this error occurs for all Integration Pack Objects).
    ---- THE ERROR BELOW ----
    Details:
    Required parameter password is missing
while parsing call information for method Login at line 1, column 218
while parsing SOAP body at line 1, column 207
while parsing SOAP envelope at line 1, column 38
while parsing HTTP request for method login an object of type vim.SessionManager at line 1, column 0
    Exception: IntegrationPackException Target site: ServiceBase.Design
    Stack trace at
    Microsoft.SystemCenter.Orchestrator.VIQIK.ServiceBase.Design(IActivityDesigner designer)
    ---- End Of Error--------------
So steps to resolve this issue so far.
1-  Remove and redeploy IP Pack
2 - Remove Orchestrator Database and Redeploy Database
    3 - Uninstall and re-install Orchestrator
    4 - Restart Servers
The problem is that when you actually look at the property pages in the Runbook Designer  it talks correctly to the VSphere Server, and you can alter them, but it still won't run.
The firewall is off, and the VI Client talks to the VCentre server.
And I have looked in the Runbook Tester logs but it doesn't seem to show any errors.
So can anybody shine a light on where to look for the problem or how to debug it.
    Cheers
    Alixx

    Hi Frank,
you should be able to use Variables and Published Data in the Integration Pack for VMWare vSphere.
If you use a Variable or Published Data in the connection setting you experience an error while designing the Runbook. Use here the Name (one Name) of the connection setting you specified for  VMWare vSphere.
Make sure, you use the up-to-date version of this IP, until today:

  • W510 - VMware Workstation 7 USB Problem.

    Hi, all
VMware Workstation 7 have a feature allow user to use USB Devices in the VM instead of using the drive in the host. However, my USB HDD failed to connect to the VM when it is connected in any of the 2 USB 3.0 port. It would only work when my USB HDD is connected in Powered USB2.0 or eSATA2.0/USB2.0. Is there any solutions?
All BIOS, drivers updated, but this problem still exist. I am using VMware Workstation 7.1.3
    Any Ideas?
    Peter

the USB3.0 doesn't work with VMware
    I have tried also.
You can untick the high speed usb 2.0 and it will work.
however esata/usb and the USB port behind the computer are not the main USB they are so called usb HUB..

  • Network problems with Oracle Linux 5.7 on Vmware ESX 4.1

We recently installed Oracle Linux 5.7 64 on Vmware in order to run OVM Manager 3.02. The VM experiences random frequent network connectivity problems. There are no errors showing up in the network stats. The Vmware environment hosts many production VMs with no issues. We did have some trouble configuring Vmware tools with the uek kernel, so we booted the vm with the base kernel and we were then able to configure Vmware tools with no problems. We have tried running the VM on two different ESX servers with no improvement.
The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions.
I am not very experienced with linux, being primarily a vmware and aix admin. Any tips on stabilizing Oracle Linux on Vmware are greatly appreciated otherwise, I will have to beg for a new server to host the OVM manager.
    Thanks,
    Bob

The network connectivity problems persist even with the base kernel. We get random ping failures into and out of the VM, and random disconnects of ssh terminal sessions. Before you check on software and driver updates you might want to check your hardware settings. I've seen problems like this before when using a bad network cable or having a duplex mismatch. The later can happen when changing from a router to a network switch and configuring the switch for fixed full duplex. Depending on which end you sit you won't even see any network errors, but packages will disappear depending on traffic. Make sure you have set server's NIC and network switch port to the same topology ie. fixed or auto-negotiate, but not mixed. You can use the "ethtool" on the Linux system to verify the current settings.

  • Not able to install server 2012 R2 on a VMware Workstation 10 .

    Dear Team,
    Thanks in advance.
I am facing an issue when installing server 2012 R2 on a VMware Workstation 10 .
This is the error message i get ''windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms. make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.''
i have tried changing the initial install option of OS  to ''other''. But still its the same.
Finally i have installed it without adding the OS disk in the initial setup. But the problem here is that its asking me activation key.
if you have the activation key for 180 days please let me know.

I have the same problem here.
With VMWare Workstation 10, downloading and using the Windows 2012 R2 ISO evaluation to test.
Shortly after booting up with the ISO, it complains about this message:  ''windows cannot find the microsoft software
license terms. make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation.''
BUT, if you uninstall VMWare Workstation 10 and install VMWare Workstation 9, no problem.
Something wrong with either VMWare Workstation 10 or Windows 2012 R2.

  • Plugins that i know are compatible in version 7.0.1 are reporting as not compatible when i try and install then in the same version running inside of VMware.

    Greetings ..
I am trying to run Firefox inside of VMware Workstation V8 in Widows 7 and Fusion V4 in Mac OS X 10.7.2.
I first tried to restore a working profile backup of Firefox made with FEBE in windows inside of VMWARE, when I load Firefox more that half of the plugins that were working in Windows and OS X natively, are reporting as not compatible with this (V7.0.1) Firefox and will not update to a working version, as in many cases they are the latest version anyway.
Also it is inconsistent, as i have tried several times to install Firefox and restore the profile and each time it is not all the same plugins that are disabled and reporting as incompatible.
I have also tried to do a clean install of Firefox and going to the website and installing the plugins directly, and while i have not tried all of the disabled plugins, I am unable to install plugins that i am currently using in the same version of Firefox outside of VMware that are working and or can be installed when I am not running Firefox inside of VMware.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 8.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • VMware Player and mouse not behaving correctly with the vmmouse driver

I'm running Arch on VMware Player and having problems with the mouse behavior.
    - Arch is updated, 32 -bit
    - VMware Player 6.0.1
    - Host is Windows 8.1 64-bit
    - XFCE 4.10
If I install xf86-input-vmmouse, the following happens:
    - If cursor touches the edge of the screen when scrolling a window with the scroll bar, scrolling stops. If I continue pressing the mouse button and moving the mouse (and not touching any edges), the scrolling starts working again after two seconds.
    - When opening any new window, hovering and clicking will register only after two seconds. This is very noticeable when opening the application menu and trying to launch any app - first click never works.
Uninstalling the vmmouse driver fixes the above problems. The mouse "feeling" gets very bad though, it seems jumpy and the acceleration is crazy and can't be tweaked to be satisfactory with the mouse settings. With vmmouse the mouse feels otherwise just fine.
Installing or uninstalling Open-VM-Tools doesn't do anything.
I tried this, but it had no effect: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … s_expected
Happens both in fullscreen and windowed, scrolling behavior happens every time, hover/click lag is not so predictable (seems to happen 50 % of the time).
Might there be any easy fix for this?

  • Virtualizing whole infrastructure - vmware, virtualbox, oracle vm ?

    Hello All,
We have the project of virtualizing the infrastructure (consisting of DBs and iASs on Red hat 4.6 (no RAC or ASM)).
I have used vmware and know the procedure: you install vmware server, you create VMs, install an OS, access the VM, and then install what is required. Similar on virtualbox.
1 - Is VMware or virtualbox certified for oracle? or only Oracle VM?
2 - The procedure on Oracle VM is the same? After installing the VM Server, can we create VMs on any OS? Or are we limited to templates?
    I visiited

    and

but didn't come up with any clarifications.

UPDATE well , I suppose that the note
Oracle Linux Support Policies for Virtualization and Emulation [ID 417770.1]
answers my questions #1. "no for vmware/virtualbox. yes for oraclevm".
Edited by: Pinela on Jul 4, 2012 10:48 AM

There are two important points that you should understand:
    1. Oracle tries to spread FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) and running Oracle database on VMWare. They suggest that they don't support it, but they DO support it, when they're pinned down. We've been all through this at my workplace. The situation is: If you run Oracle on VMWare, and have a problem, and open a service request with Oracle, IF (and this is a big IF) Oracle thinks the problem you're having may be caused by running on VMWare, they MAY require you to show that the problem exists on a non-VMWare platform. But almost ALL problems you'll have with the database will not fall under that "IF".
    2. But here is the killer reason why you might not want to used VMWare: If you run Oracle DB on VMWare, you must license EVERY core in that box. If you think about how many cores are in a small 2-socket server (the ones we just bought have TWELVE), the cost to license Oracle on a $10,000 server may be far more than you can afford. And if you can't fully load up all those cores, or if you are running things besides Oracle on those cores, you're paying for cores you can't use. HOWEVER, on Oracle VM, you pay ONLY for the cores that you allocate to the virtual machine(s) that are running Oracle DB.

  • Solaris 10 virtual machine for VMware

I've tried the "Solaris 10 OS, AMD x64 Platform - Solaris Enterprise System Virtual Machine for VMware (Solaris 10 11/06) 3.0". I've d/l the virtual appliance for vmware one can find from there : http://developers.sun.com/solaris/downloads/solaris_apps/index.jsp#vmware
    I encountered 2 problems :
The first was the network (netcard) wasn't recognised at all. It's strange because the settings should be the same for every vmware virtual machines. It may be because I'm running the latest version from vmware (10.0.2). The default option was NAT, and I tried the others as well. All other systems I'm using with vmware are working correctly, including the opensolaris "Nexenta".
The second one was with the screen resolution, it was excessively huge, around 2800 x 2000. I couldn't change it in the gnome desktop (the option had no effect). I managed to change it by altering the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. The same was for the keyboard settings, I couldn't switch to azerty (french) keyboard. I had to change it in xorg.conf file.

im new to vmware too, but just wan to share my experience with you.
5.5.1 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - my NIC still define as pcn0, encountered packet drop network issue
    - dtlogin doesn't work properly with my screen resulation, mouse work fine without pressing ctrl+alt key to get out from vmware
6.0 vmware workstation with vmtool installed.
    - no more packet drop issue, especially when i ssh from pc to vmware.
    - gdm fit to screen, GUI work fine.
    - my shared folder working now, mount as /hgfs.

  • 2009-001 Security Update Has Broken Printing From VMWare

Are Apple aware that their latest security patch has affected the ability to print from a guest OS in VMWare Fusion?
I've installed Adobe Reader 8 since the update, and that won't print too, though I can still print PDF's from Preview, perhaps the update has affected CUPS.
Since Apple recommend VMWare (quite rightly) in their online store, I hope that they feel an obligation to help solve this!

    I have both
    Me too!
in my experience Parallels is a lot more twitchy and problematic than VMWare.
I'm not sure about the definition of "twitchy" in this (or any) context.
That doesn't mean that VMWare is perfect; it's not by any means.
I've never seen any software that is prefect and without bugs. I want to sound fair and unbiased, but I can honestly say that I have never experienced any problem, of any kind, in Parallels. It has never failed me.
I cannot say the same for VMWare. I tried it, found numerous problems immediately. The 2.0 version seems better. It doesn't appear to make the Mac itself unstable, even when VMWare isn't running.
But I've found it to be much more stable than Parallels (either v. 3.x or v 4.x).
For all tasks where printing isn't required I assume
It is not my intention to turn this thread into yet another Parallels vs. VMWare flame war. I have seen a great deal of disinformation targeted at Parallels over the past couple of years. I have made it a personal goal to do my part to fight it whenever I get the chance. So that is why I seem a bit testy and defensive - because I am
Neither you nor the original poster have said anything derogatory towards Parallels. Both Parallels and VMWare are fine products. In this case, VMWare has a bug. That is unfortunate for them. I haven't installed the security update myself to see if Parallels is immune. But I'm guessing it is unaffected considering the level of trashing that Parallels gets even when they don't have bugs.
It is unfortunate that the original poster was misinformed about Apple recommending VMWare. Apple will help market just about any Mac software, but I don't think Apple would ever recommend any 3rd party product over another 3rd party product. They sell both VMWare and Parallels in the Apple Store.
I am sure that VMWare will find and fix this bug fairly shortly. I'm sure Apple will help them if they ask.
I am sure that Adobe Reader 8 will not be updated to fix its bug. Adobe Reader 8 is already obsolete. Adobe Reader 9 may not have the same issue. I can't say myself because I don't use Adobe software to read PDFs. I prefer Preview, Skim, or PDFClerkPro.

  • Help with SAP GUI on Trial VMWare Edition

I currently have a trial version of NetWeaver installed (SAP NetWeaver 7.0.1 Java + ABAP Trial VMWare Edition), but having problems getting the GUI to work.  The VM is using GNOME 2.12.2.
I'm currently having trouble with SAP GUI.  According to SAP help, a requirement to run SAP GUI for HTML is Windows NT 4.0.  Since I'm using GNOME, I tried to get the Java version to work.
When I try to launch SAP GUI, it gives me the following error:
    http://i.imgur.com/0ZBVI.png
I wasn't able to troubleshoot the error, so I'm in the process of uninstalling this version of SAP GUI, and try installing again.  However, I'm having trouble performing the uninstall.  I did some reading, and it says to either run the SAPsweep.exe utility or NWSapSetup.exe.  But I can't find either of them on my machine (tried doing a system search, no luck).
I found this thread to be helpful: Re: sapsweep.exe for SAPGUI 7.10 ?, but I'm not running on Windows.
Thanks in advance for any input

    Hello Anoop.
The error occurs because you have selected OLE DB for OLAP Provider in the Business Explorer selection.
You can tell this from the following line in your sapsetup
00:43:58 NwSapsAtlC  1W  Marking package SAPGUI_7.30 ({57F4A687-AE41-4BEA-9553-F852C36F8C1E}) as disabled: selected node OLE DB for OLAP Provider ({5390360A-98D9-4377-BD41-9A147392D000}) has failing condition.
Since you don't have Office installed, you cannot use the Business Explorer modules.
Run the installation again only selecting the components you require.

  • 10.4.11, VMware Fusion and Windows XP (Home Edition) works just fine

OK, so I'm through the installation of VMware Fusion and Windows XP (Home Edition) and I have to say that it was pretty much point and click as advertised. All network services seem to be working and I'm running both OS side-by-side with out a hitch.
Haven't put the system through any rigorous test yet, like VPN, network printing or rending large graphic files, but the installation, setup and normal operation went smoothly taking about an hour in total.
Machine: MacBook Pro, 1.8Ghz with 1G of RAM memory and dual monitors.
    Host OS: MacOS 10.4.11

I now have installed XP Pro into a Boot Camp Partition. Basically point and shoot. Then while booted in XP I used PC Mover to migrate my old PC to the Boot Camp partition. With the exception of one program and my virus and firewall programs all went well, almost point and shoot. Then I installed VMWares Fusion and used my Boot Camp partition as the source. If you follow instructions from VMWare things work relatively problem free.
After posting questions on VMwares site about processing video and compiling DVDs in Windows using Fusion I decided that such processor intensive requirements are best handled in the Boot Camp (native) mode.
The biggest problem I have encountered is that Microsoft Office constantly asks to be reactivated when switching between Boot Camp startup and Fusion. No solution I know of, except not to use Office in Boot Camp Mode. Secondly XP Pro required a re-authorization from Microsoft so I could run it in both Boot Camp and Fusion modes. Obtaining the authorization (activation code) from Microsoft was not a problem.

  • Installion problems on multi distro machine [solved]

Started with 0.7.2 i686, but had problems with that so I was advised to try 0.8. Just downloaded base-0.8-beta1-20070122-i686.iso image. Mdsum5 and burn verify no problem. However, I'm having lots of bother getting it installed on a machine containing other distros. So I tried installing on VMWare and had no problems whatsoever with either with the iso image or the burnt CD.
I had to use ide-legacy to boot the real machine. As the disk was already prepared I went straight to option 3. Set Filesystem Mountpoints and set the swap (overwrite), / (ext3/overwrite) and boot (ext2/no overwrite) partitions. Then on selecting all base packages I get I get error

Continued with 4. configure system anyway and a get a load of mount point errors and the chroot fails. When I edit (vim) the list of configuration files, they're all empty and if I try to add anything I get error E212: Can't open file for writing. Obviously I can't set the password either.
So I thought I'd try the ftp base installl. The network set up was fine. Instead of the above package integrity error, I get
error: the following file conflicts were found :
    grub: /mnt/boot/grub/menu.lst: exists in filesystem
errors occured, no packages were upgraded
    Package installation failed
Also I get a load of errors on trying to install the kernel, but at least there was no package corruption.
I tried both methods a number of times. With the CD install I sometimes get more CD errors. With ftp base install I get exactly the same problems. I also tried preparing the disk within the install using cfdisk. However, when I deleted /dev/hda10 and created a new one, cdfisk wanted to rename most of the other partitions, so i didn't go ahead with that. I've seen this problem with cfdisk before.
I know I could move the virtual machine to the real machine, but I rather not have the hassle. Anyone got some workarounds?

    Thanks for your reply mutlu_inek.

Yes the installer gives the option to format or not, selected partitions during the installation. The app uses the terms overwrite/no overwrite.
mutlu_inek wrote:Maybe your designated /boot partition is corrupted (or not actually ext2)? Maybe you should try formatting it.
The /boot partition was ext2 and I wasn't aware of any corruption. The fsck check on booting was fine and no other distro was having problems. However, removing the kernels and config files or reformatting the /boot partition seemed like good option that I hadn't yet tried. I backed up the partition and allowed the installer to format/overwrite it during the install. This fixed all the problems.
mutlu_inek wrote:The partition naming/numbering sheme is ordered. If you delete a partition and then re-create it, it will have the same name. If you just delete it, names of partitions with higher numbers will change. That is not cfdisk specific, not even Linux-specific.
My disk has 10 partitions. Within cfdisk I deleted /dev/hda10 created and recreated it. However, rather than getting a new /dev/hda10 the partition was designated /dev/hda7 with the original 7, 8 and 9 all reassigned. I'd say this was a bug.

  • GDM errors on VMWare after system upgrade

After a system upgrade today, I'm getting this when GDM starts:
gdm-binary[595]: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server for log errors
There aren't any errors in the Xorg log. The vmware driver is explicitly listed as being loaded:
    Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/vware_drv.so
    Modul vmware: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
vmware: Using vmwlegacy driver everything is fine.
vmwlegacy: driver for VMWare SVGA: vmware0405, wmare0710
When I run gdm, I get this:
    ** (gdm-binary:970): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome/DisplayManager
** (gdm-binary:970): WARNING **: Could not acquire name; bailing out
There are several gdm processes running. When I kill them, they're all restarted with the same results.
    I've reinstalled xorg-server, xorg-apps, gdm, and xf86-video-vmware.
From what I've gathered, there's a problem with the video driver.
    Any recommendations on troubleshooting this?

Solved for me using the solution in this post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 3#p1072193
I wouldn't mark the present thread as solved, however, since the original poster was experiencing issues with VMWare, while my own problems were on VirtualBox.
