  • Zone Alarm Issues

    +This isn't really a question, more of a suggestion.+
As of today (11-12-09) Apple hasn't solved this issue that deals with Zone Alarm software. Maybe in the near future they will, but who knows. Anyways, I'll start with the problem:
A month or so ago I had the dreaded RESTORE LOOP problems when I updated my iPhone to v3.0. After many days and hours of attempting to resolve the issue I figured my phone was fried and no longer usable. I took it to the Apple store and told them of the issues and they gave me a brand new one, no questions asked. Thanks Apple! The new phone had v3.1 installed on it so I figured the problems with updating were over, WRONG. I took it home and a week later they released an even newer version of the software along with the AT&T carrier settings update. Before updating I synced some songs, music videos, and tv shows. When I tried to play the songs back every one had a really high pitched squeal or would stop playing halfway through. The videos were all choppy and had little green boxes scattered across the screen every few seconds. I erased everything and updated the phone and iTunes to the newest version hoping to solve the problems. Nope, but I did eventually find a solution over the next day or so.
    Problems:
    1. Phone stuck in RESTORE LOOP when trying to update to any version.
    2. Music is choppy and sounds like a dial up modem.
    3. Videos are unwatchable due to small green boxes all over the screen.
    Solution:
    1. SHUT DOWN ANY ZONE ALARM PRODUCTS RUNNING ON YOUR COMPUTER BEFORE RUNNING iTunes.
I consider my knowledge of computers and software to be above average and in no way claim to know everything. This solution to a seemingly stupid problem was stumbled upon by the old "trial and error" method. Please respond to this post if you know the technical reason why this problem occurred.
Best of luck, and I hope this solution helps others out there work around this issue until Apple fixes it (hopefully soon).
    +*Zone Alarm Security Suite v8.0.400.020*+
    +*iTunes v9.0.2.25*+

I did contact Zone Alarm via email, but as of today they have not yet responded with any answer.
This is an issue that both Apple and Zone Alarm need to address, not just Zone Alarm. I posted this in the Apple forums because the problem did not exist before the iPhone v3.0 firmware and iTunes (I don't remember what version) updates. If you roll your phone firmware and iTunes software back to a previous version this problem does not exist. In a perfect world all software would learn to get along with each other.
I have not updated my Zone Alarm software in the last 5 months, and have not made any firewall changes either. So, obviously the changes made by Apple were the ones causing the problems.

  • Firefox 6.0 will not run if Zone Alarm is active, gives error: XULRunner, Error Platform Version 6.0 is not compatible with minVersion + 6.0 maxVersion = 6.0

    Windows 7
If Zone Alarm is disable Firefox runs

Try to ask in the ZoneAlarm forum.

  • 7.4 upgrade causes super slow start up and won't allow Zone Alarm to open.

I recently upgraded my pc to iTunes 7.4 and until now have never had a problem with iTunes on my pc. After restarting it, it goes through the normal start up procedures until it shows my desktop image then it hangs there. After 5-10 minutes my desktop icons show up and the pc will work fine, itunes included with one exception. Zone Alarm now doesn't start up. Tried to reinstall but it still hangs in the same spot on restart and does the 'no icons's or pc use for 5+ minutes', then it's back to normal except no Zone Alarm.
    Any ideas? tia.

Repairing permission daily is a complete waste of time and will not help you. In fact, repairing the disk permissions needs to only be done about 2-3 times a year at best.
You say you verified the disk but did you repair it? Did you get a message that the "disk appears to be o.k."? What kind of install did you do? My guess is you did an archive and install.
Onyx is a troubleshooting tool and should not be used on a regular basis for anything. Caches do not need to be cleaned on a regular basis and everything else Onyx and similar utilities claim to do are handled by the system automatically. Do not use these utilities unless you are having a problem.
My guess is you have a serious problem with file corruption.
Have you tried creating a new account? Try that and see if the problem follows to the new account or not.

  • Need to download 3.6 in order to use Zone Alarm, ver4 not compatiable

I use Zone Alarm firewall. I downloaded Firefox 4 and installed it, not knowing it was not compatible. I would like reinstall 3.6, but cannot find a site to download it. All sites (that I find) have been changed to to version 4. WTROTT

Did you ask Clarion?  I know of no other car systems that require an iPhone app to work.

  • Hi I have installed Firefox 4.0 i got information that Firefox 4.0 don´t support my firewall Zone Alarm seco

Firefox 4.o gave me the information that it doesn´t support this files and further more it doesn´t suppurt microsoft.net framwork assistent 1.2.1 either.
I have XP service package 3 as my plattform.
Now i have removed Firefox 4.0 from my computer, could and should i reinstall Firefox 3.6.16.1 to get firefox at all?
    With warm regards
    Carl-Rune

Until Zone Alarm updates it won't be compatible. You do have an old version of Microsoft.net Framework. The most current is for 3.5, you can update your Firefox Add-on here: [http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=cecc62dc-96a7-4657-af91-6383ba034eab&displaylang=en Update to .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 for the .NET Framework Assistant 1.0 for Firefox ]
You can actually have both 4.0 and 3.6 on your computer at the same time (unlike Internet Explorer). If you want to keep 4.0 until Zone Alarm is supported, just go to [http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html Firefox 3.6], download and run the installer. Click Next on the first screen the select the Custom radio button, Next. In the Destination Folder box just rename "Mozilla Firefox" to "Mozilla Firefox 3.6", Next. The next screen is for where you want the icons, deselect where you don't want the shortcut to appear, Next. The next screen is where it'll add it to your Start Menu, just click Next, then you can click Install if you want 3.6 to be your default browser (just deselect the box if you don't). That's it! If you want to remove 4.0, just go to Add/Remove in your Control Panel and uninstall it but keep your personal files.

  • Previous version of Firefox killed Zone Alarm - has this problem been corrected?

While installing the previous version update of Firefox it showed a box on the screen saying it had found an incompatible file in Zone Alarm Ultimate Security and was deleting it. No further explanation - and no way for me to say 'yes' or 'no'. Sure enough, the ZA panel showed that I was not protected. Unacceptable. Went to IE, with the MS firewall and anti virus, crossed my fingers, toes, eyes etc and got back on line. Finally managed to download Zone Alarm again - took a big chunk out of my monthly Verizon data allowance. Switched to Chrome, it plays nicely with ZA, but I would much rather use Firefox. So - has this foul-up been corrected. Is it safe to come back to Firefox? May 23, 2014

Thanks for the explanation - and I must admit, somewhat more polite than my post. I don't want to have to again go through the trauma of having to keep my firewall/anti-virus program working properly, I guess I'm stuck with Chrome.

  • Where can I get a copy of Firefox 5 to use while waiting for zone alarm to be compatible with Version 6

Zone Alarm is not yet compatible with Firefox 6 so I want to go back to Firefox 5 temporarily so I can continue to use Firefox. I can't seem to download Version 5 - where can I get a copy to use temporarily?

    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/
    all the versions
edit: replaced unofficial download site link.

  • Firefox has become a bloody nightmare!!- what on earth have you done at the update?! how do i stop any 'new' opened tab opening as 'zone alarm'??!!!

I have had to reset my homepage to my regular one (msn.com) as Firefox suddenly put 'zone alarm' into my home page (default ) and also the search bar (instead of Google). I have reset the Google in the search bar, and have reset my homepage to www.msn.com - yet, despite this, every single time a new tab is opened low and behold it opens up as the Zone Alarm home page.
I either need to solve this immediately, or Firefox, you're history on my laptop. Utter trash !!!

Do you have ZoneAlarm software installed?
If that is the case then you need to check this in that software or contact ZA for support.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

  • After installing zone Alarm extreme 10, firefox.exe 32 stays running in the background after closing, making it not possible to open it again.

After installing the latest Zone Alarm Extreme v10, on windows 7 x64, when I close firefox, the window closes but firefox.exe 32 remains running in the background, which makes that when I want to open firefox again, after about a minute I get the error that an instance of firefox is still running. I go to task manager and end task of firefox.exe 32 and then open firefox again.
    This is now happening regularly.

This seemed to come out of the blue, very much as described by anima42. I also am a Ubuntu 10.04 user. I have pondered on the first reply above, and though I don't, and didn't, use Tabberwocky, I was using Tab Mix Plus. Having removed this, the problem seems to have gone away. Another possible clue as to what went wrong: I use a constant Firefox profile located in my home directory. I dabbled with Ubuntu 11.04 a week or so ago, which runs (I think) a more updated Firefox. This Firefox was operating on my default profile, as you would. It may have broken something so it now doesn't play nicely with the 10.04 setup. Just surmising.

  • Problem with zone alarm.

Hi everyone, this is the first time I get a Toshiba Lap top and I had a problem after installing Zone Alarm PRO edition. The module is just not starting, the icon appears but nothing else happens, I already tried with an older version and cleaning the system with Tune Up. I was checking in some forums I found some information about that Zone Alarm is not compatible with some Toshiba Satellite models (mine is L305-SP6912R).
Can some one please help me to find what is the problem, because I really need to use Zone Alarm on my LapTop.
Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

I'd say you're in the wrong forum. Try the Zone Alarm folks.

    Good luck!
(Be sure to come back here with Toshiba problems.)

  • Is there a conflict with latest version of Zone Alarm Extreme Security?

Every time I try to open Firefox, I get an error message and nothing further happens. If I close down Zone Alarm, everything is just fine. I am running Firefox 3.6.19 as later versions mess up my password software.
Error message reads: Platform Version 1.9.2.18 is not compatible with minVersion >= 1.9.2.19 maxVersion <= 1.9.2.19. I have no idea what this refers to. Please can someone help as I hate Internet Exploder!

As Miriam has helpfully pointed out, Pith Helmet is a Safari plug in. You won't find it in Applications, rather you'll see it in your home folder's Library/Application Support.
As you have now added, these difficulties are being experienced with all three browsers, then you can discount Pith Helmet as it is Safari only, but it was a relevant suggestion based on your first post. I use it to cut out a lot of the 'ad noise' you get on sites.
As Nathan has said, 10.5 should be working fine on your hardware, and agree with his fresh approach suggestion. But as you don't have the 10.5 disks to do this you need to get your own set of disks. Disks are not just software, but also have utility functions that you may require in the future. Also with Apple, legally, you must own the operating system installed. Currently you don't.
As you got the computer for free, buying a set of Retail Leopard Disks, has you still in front.
Prior to this, you could remove Firefox completely and download and install it again and see if that works properly, but that would be surprising as it appears to be some system wide defect and your thoughts about a malfunctioning Java runtime is a likely cause.

  • Zone Alarm In Xp

    Hi Guys
A little enquiry as i am a little worried about something.I was on the net and my zone alarm firewall came up with a pop up message which i must of said yes to.When i looked at the listing of all the access denied etc, i noticed there was (DLL run as app) in there and with a destination address of (resolver1.svr.pol.co.uk) anyone know what that maybe and if any harm would of come to my computer.
    Many Thanks
    Giuseppe

  • Question re Zone Alarm and WRT54G admin page display problem

First - thanks to all who posted about Zone Alarm - I was going to exchange my router this weekend - I spent an hour on the phone with tech support and she was trying to get my router updated with v9 through a roundabout way, but I kept getting an error that said my Flash could not be erased - so she thought the firware on my router was somehow corrupted. But I'm definitely going to check out the Zone Alarm idea first.
My question is - can someone tell me exactly how to disable Zone Alarm? I thought I had done so, but I guess not - I'm not very familiar with Zone Alarm. Also - I had purchased Zone Alarm about a year ago, (was using it with a Linksys wired router) and suddenly I am getting messages on restart telling me my "trial period is up" - of course I can't find my original packaging to enter a serial number (altho one is already entered and they say it's not *valid*) so I have to select an option that tells me I am no longer protected. (unless I pay another $40 to re-register it!!) Could this be part of the problem?
Final question - sorry for being such a newbie - but do I really need both Zone Alarm and the firewall in the router?  ZA says it has caught thousands of attempts on my system - while it was running with my non-wireless router installed - is that a crock? Or is actually good to have both software and hardware routers?  And if I do need ZA still - does it have to be disabled everytime I want to access the admin page? Then turned back on?
    ugh!
    thanks -
    Mary

LOL - This forum is great, I've been here 5 minutes and now have some fresh perspectives on a couple of problems.
I would NOT recommend paying for ZA. What the heck were they thinking when they created their 'Zones'? They should have named it something else for one, like 'Complicated rules and policies that are guaranteed to hack up everything you try to do (and it gets even worse when you restore the settings you tweaked back to their defaults)' But I guess that's a little too long.
Marynospam: Your Windows firewall (if ur on windows) will do a pretty good job of keeping out unwanted visitors from the Internet. It will NOT stop malware from calling out! Modern day scumbags slip you a trojan that will spy, record, copy, and call them back with whatever they want from you. If you are using Microsoft Windows DO NOT TURN OFF your 3rd party firewall! Of the firewall/security vendors I have experience with, McAfee is the best. I have only used their firewall and viruscan, and don't have experience with their 'spyware' package.

  • Zone Alarm Extreme compatibility

Who is responsible for compatibility between Firefox Browser and Zone Alarm Extreme?
Zone Alarm as yet only supports Firefox up to and not including Firefox 6 and 7. ie Firefox 5 is ok.
The site check in the toolbar does not work.
I do not like this constant update of Firefox because Zone Alarm is slow to respond.

There is no scheduled release yet for the update according to this thread: [http://forums.zonealarm.com/showthread.php?t=77781 Firefox 6 support - ZoneAlarm User Community].
Because Firefox is several security updates behind, you have a difficult choice between losing your ZoneAlarm add-on features and running a secure browser ([http://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html Security Advisories for Firefox]). It's your call, but I recommend upgrading the browser.
When Firefox disables an add-on, it usually is because it includes a list of compatible Firefox versions and it hasn't yet been updated for Firefox 7. If it works on Firefox 5, there is a reasonable chance it will work on Firefox 7, but no guarantee. This is something you could search about before going to the next step.
You can force Firefox to ''ignore'' add-on version restrictions by (what else) installing an add-on. Then you can test whether the add-ons important to you actually work in Firefox 5.
    [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ Add-on Compatibility Reporter :: Add-ons for Firefox]
After you install this add-on and restart Firefox, there will still be a message that "--- is incompatible with Firefox 7.0" but the add-on will be enabled and a Disable button will appear for that entry.
Unfortunately, some add-ons really are incompatible and can cause stability issues, so please bear that in mind.
