Zoom H2n and Garageband on MacBook Pro

I just bought the Zoom H2n. I want to use it primary as a handheld recorder, what it is, but I also want to use it as a USB audio interface connecting to Garageband. The first tests are very promising. I have a question though.
When I connect the H2n to my Mac I try to set the input levels to 48 kHz and 24-bit. I do this in Audio/Midi configuration. It seems that the default setting for the H2n are 44,1 kHz and 16-bit and I cannot change that. Even if I change the record settings in the H2n itself to 48 kHz and 24-bit in Audio/Midi Configutation it still reads 44,1 kHz and 16-bit.
The internal mic of my MacBook Pro on the other hand can be set up to 96 kHz and 32-bit.
Am I doing something wrong?

Sorry I haven't replied earlier. Congrats on buying the Zoom H2n.
I mainly use the H2n for my guitar lessons. On one hand I record the sessions with my teacher, then I place the H2n in between us and I record in 2CH mode. My guitar on one channel, my teacher on the other. When I just record myself I choose the XY mode.
The recorded sessions I then import in Garageband or Audacity (the latter deals best with the multitrack modes, both 2CH as 4CH). When I record (and film) my guitar homework, I use Final Cut Pro to merge video and audio.
Since I record several times a week I tweaked down the wav-settings to 44,1kHz /16bit. I find it offers the best compromise in sound quality and disk space. Recording in WAV 48kHz / 24 bit filled up my HD far too fast.
I don't know if you already noticed that creation date of the audio files doesn't transfer to the mac. Every single file has 1/1/70 as creation date. I use BatchTouch to add a creation date to the imported files.

Quite right, but as the OP does not have component or composite connections not important.
To the OP, this does work, but is not the cheapest, and as it appears that Apple no longer sell an SVideo adaptor cable 3rd party it will have to be. -
How can I set up Cinema Display as a main screen and leave my macbook pro as a second screen instead?
I learned that the Dock is positioned at the chosen edge of whatever Display is positioned farthest to that side. E.g. for the Dock to be positioned on the right side of the Cinema Display (instead of the right side of the MacBook), the Cinema Display must be oriented (by dragging) to the right of the MacBook monitor on the "Arrangement" tab of the Displays Preference Panel.

I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and now my MacBook Pro won't start up.
I was messing around with .kext files in the MacintoshHD and moved the system.kext and two others to my desktop and deleted the originals and now the MacBook Pro won't start up. All I get at start up is the apple icon then a bunch of text shows up part of which says Mac OS version: not yet set. then the apple icon turns into the power icon and tells me to turn off the computer. I've tried reinstalling from the install DVD by holding down option when powering on and selecting the install DVD and it just goes to a white screen with the apple icon and stays like that. I didn't have the disk utility on my Mac before this happened because I deleted it to make room on my computer a while ago so I'm not sure if that's why it won't load the install DVD but anyone who knows the solution to this with out going to get it repaired would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Never mind my dad just found the original install DVD and that worked. Before I was using an install disc that Apple sent me for another issue I was having, but thanks for replying so quickly and trying to help on this Thanksgiving day!!!

I have installed Thunderbird on my IMac and on my MacBook Pro. I have already completely set up Thunderbird on my MacBook Pro. How can I transfer all of my settings, bookmarks, etc., from my MacBook Pro to my IMac? Also, can I automatically keep both copies of Thunderbird synched so that changes on one computer are recognized on another computer.

Providing specifics on all the ways to do this will take more time than I am willing to spend here these days. You can do some of this with Home Sharing. You can transfer the entire library from one computer to another, If you do that you can delete what you don't want from the transferred library.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder. If you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there. (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
You do not want to use a new AppleID. Change the AppleID on the new phone to the old ID. Purchases made with one AppleID cannot be transferred to a different one and it will be a royal pain to manage two Apple IDs.
Change iTunes Store account on an iOS device - Log out of your current account with Settings.app > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) > tap on your AppleID. Log in with a different account. I am traveling from the US to France and have a Macbook Pro. Can I just use a plug adaptor or do I need a power converter to plug in?
Just an adapter to change the US plug style to the one in the country you are going to. The AC charger will do the rest. It is rated for 120-240 volts and will adjust on its own.

Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.

Have just installed Mavericks and restarted the MacBook Pro. That was 3 hours ago and after logging in, I got my wallpaper and dock, but none of my desktop icons, just the spinning coloured wheel. It's been like that for 2 hours. Is this normal? What should I do, please?
I tried holding the on/off switch down to make it shut down, but when I turned it back on again, the same thing happened and none of the keys etc makes any difference.

Try booting whilst holding down the Shift key - this will allow you to boot into Safe Mode, disabling third-party kernel extensions, etc. Your Mac will be slow to boot and will operate sluggishly. That's normal. If you can get in using Safe Mode then you have some start-up item that doesn't play well with Mavericks.

Try resetting your modem. Power it down. Wait a moment, then power it up again. While it resets, do not change what is connected to it.
In another, though unrelated article, Apple recommends the following:
If you have configured your Wi-Fi base stations in the past, it may be helpful to do a factory default reset of each Wi-Fi base station that will be part of the wireless extended network before you begin.
This step really ought not be considered optional for the configuration you propose. If the problem persists after resetting your modem, reset everything else too. -

Governments and ex's will/may have recourse to the legal process (or in the case of the Gov they can choose to ignore the legal system if they feel like it) when they want to see something of yours, good luck hardening your Mac against that. The best way to avoid the possibility of snooping over public networks is to avoid them but if you can't then Kappy's suggestion will help.
Strong passwords (everywhere) and don't use the same password in multiple locations.
If you really want to secure your home wireless use Mac address connection authentication, do not allow unknown Mac addresses to connect. It's much stronger than a WPA password alone.
