Zoom H4n Stereo Audio Plays Only Left Speaker - How to Double It?

Hello Everyone,
I've been working on a few projects and noticed that the audio captured by the Zoom H4n will preview in both speakers (and before I drag it to the timeline I can right click -> Modify ->Audio Channels and get all the options there as well as hear it from both speakers) but as soon as I drag it onto the timeline it will only play through the left speaker.
Any ideas of either where I'm going wrong or how I can double the audio? It's all already cut together so I'm hoping there's a fix that is semi-time efficient to apply lol. Thanks so much for your help,
-Karl

Glad that helped! Next time, you can use the Modify > Audio Channels command to handle this before editing. If you only have audio on the left channel of your stereo source clip, or don't care about what's on the right, you could set the stereo audio to be treated as dual mono. When you put the mono source tracks into a sequence with a stereo master track, the mono source will automatically be routed to both stereo output channels. You can then use the Pan knobs in the Audio Mixer to position each sequence track in the stereo spread. This has to be done before you use the source clip in a sequence, however.

  • Mono audio playing from left speaker only

For websites who have mono recorded (single channel) podcasts, audio in firefox will only play from left speaker instead of picking center channel.
If audio is downloaded and played on seprate dedicated player it defaults to center or if same site is played in IE also defaults to center.
Stereo recorded podcasts have no issue.

I assume that not a Flash player is used in this case, but that this is an issue with the (built-in) HTML5 media player and the audio tag is used.
    Is that correct?
The Flash player should show the Flash context menu if you right-click the player area.

  • Stereo audio plays back left channel only - premiere pro CC2014

    Dear All,
I recently upgraded to premiere pro CC and find that (just like sometimes in CS6) when i place an audio track (or clip with audio) to the timeline it plays back LEFT channel only. When I move the same clip to another (existing or newly created) sequence it becomes two channel stereo and plays back OK.
The question is, since i created sequences with the very same audio settings, what might cause this issue.
(fill right with left channel does not work because it IS a stereo track i suspect sg is wrong with my sequence settings- but i cannot figure out what exactly.)
I hope it's not a bug and it is just me doing sg wrong. all input is highly appreciated! THX in advance!
    Misi

I know i just happened to be mid-project when trial period ended...
Still looking for the why's though, since I asked around and there ARE some people who expőerience similar issues!
    Thanks in advance (Ann, too)

  • Audio Plays on Left Speaker Only?

When I recorded my footage, I had the audio running into my camera from an XLR cable connected to my shotgun mic. It was connected into input 1, which records the audio into the left channel.
When I edit the footage in Final Cut, I delete the right channel, which has no audio, and I duplicate the left channel and drag it onto audio track 2. I then make audio track 1 and 2 a stereo pair. I do this for all of the clips and I then send the audio project to Soundtrack Pro.
Once the project loads in Soundtrack Pro all I hear is the left channel and I'm unable to pan the audio to hear it from both speakers. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

    Ken,
Check your Submix. Make sure it is set up as a Stereo output.

  • Arcam rDac plays only left channel. OSX is 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.1. Have somebody similar problem ?

I have usb audio dac Arcam rDac and Mac mini 2011. Everythings was working without problem, but propably after  upgrade OSX on 10.7.4 and iTunes 10.6.1 Arcam plays only left channel. Have somebody similar problem and sollution ? Thank you very much for your help.

    Did you solve your problem?
I have the same rDAC and Macbook pro. And I have sound in both channels, but I have popping and crackling distorted sounds at low frequencies, in left channel.  Very very annoying. I have looked at every forum, and it seems like Mac has this problem very often, and there is no viable solution so far.
Like many others, I too am very disappointed with this very expensive computer I bought only 4 months ago.

  • HT3699 only left speaker playback when narrating with USB mic

When I record using my USB mic, the audio only comes out of the left speaker; how do I fix this ????

Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI setup > Audio Devices > Audio Output:
both channels 1 & 2 should be set at value = 1 (sliders all the way to the right)
and that mute is not checked on any channel

  • My dvd only plays the left speaker of my song...

Hello everyone. I recently exported onto a dvd from adobe premiere 2.0 that included a song that i had recorded in mp3 format.
In the song, some of the instruments come out of the left speaker, and some come out of the right. When i play this video on a standard dvd player through a television, the mp3 only plays the audio that is supposed to come out of the left speaker, but it plays it through both speakers. This renders many of the instruments unhearable.
When i play it through a computer, though, with a dvd decoder, it plays everything perfectly.
    What should I do?

MP3's are very often problematic. First, I would check your source file in G-Spot, to see what it reports, 2-channel, or 1-channel.
Personally, I always convert ALL MP3's to PCM/WAV and Import those. This eliminates the issues, and Audition (or the freeware, Audacity) can do this easily. The only exception will be tiny SFX files, and most are mono anyway. Where did your MP3 come from?
Good luck, and let us know how it goes,
    Hunt

  • Buzzing audio out of left speaker only during dvd playback

Anyone else have this problem. I can play cds fine and all other audio sounds fine, but when i play a dvd i get a weird buzzing out of the left speaker. I should also note that it is not constant, it occurs with things such as loud voices and some music.

Now i can confirm that it happens in quicktime as well. Is this hardware or software related? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Also, it isn't so much a buzzing as it is almost like an echo after some loud speach.

  • Stereo audio works only in FCE

I know this has been covered before but I would like some help to get from where I am now, out of the hole I seem to have dug.
Briefly, VHS video with HiFI stereo audio was converted with a Sony DCR TRV355 camera to DVPAL 720x576. Audio 16Bit 48Khz. Firewire cable plugged into the MAC running FCE4 and captured using 'capture now'. So far so good. I drag the clip to the timeline and the two audio tracks and the video track appear. The three names are all underlined. The two audio tracks are linked (the two arrows point to each other like an hour glass where the two tracks touch). The audio plays in stereo. I do nothing to this file, and quit FCE. Now, if I play that untouched captured file on a MAC or PC, in Quicktime, Windows Media Player, FLV whatever, the audio is mono, not stereo. Possibly only one leg of the stereo pair, or possibly left and right summed to mono, it's not easy to tell.
So I have two questions really:
One (not relevant to this problem as I cannot recapture the clip), what do I need to do differently next time to avoid this incompatibiliy?
Two, how do I get from here to being able to play the .mov file in any player in stereo, without degrading the picture? Thanks in advance.

This should have worked fine.  A few questions -
Did you use the TRV355 as a converter between your VHS deck and your Mac, or did you record the VHS video to a tape in your TRV355 ... and later use FCE to capture from the TRV355 tape?
What Easy Setup did you use in FCE when you captured this video?
Exactly what versions of FCE, OS X and QuickTime are on the Mac you used to capture the video?  Do you have QuickTime7 installed on this Mac?
Did you experience the "mono problem" playing the captured clip on the same Mac you used to capture the video, or did the problem appear on a different Mac?
When you experienced the "mono problem" were you playing the captured clip in  QuickTime X or QuickTime 7?
For what it's worth, I have observed that if I play a video clip in QuickTime X that was captured on a Mac with FCE/QuickTime 7, for some inexplicable reason QT X does not fully recognize all the tracks in the clip.  Mostly it thinks the clips are audio only, no video; but if I play the clip in QT7 it plays fine.

  • When I plug in headphones or use audio jack only one speaker works.

There is only one speaker, the other side is the microphone.

  • Zoom H4n and audio driver error -2

I have a newish Intel Macbook with GB 09, and a Zoom H4n recorder that I have been using as an USB input device into GB with no problems.
However, GB no longer recognizes the H4n. The drill is to have GB open and connect the H4n to a USB port. The computer detects the device and asks if I want to use it as an input device. I say yes, and then this message appears:
"error code -2 was returned by the audio driver"
Is this a problem in the Mac? Do I need to reinstall something?

    Hi there,
Did you by any chance ever find a solution to your problem with the H4n?? I'm having exactly the same problem. I think it might have something to do with a preference file. I didn't disconnect the zoom properly before unplugging it, and since then I am having the same problems as you??? Very frustrating....
    Thanks.

  • Q: When importing old digital 8mm tapes, audio is only mono. How do I

force stereo or add a second audio to the other speaker. It is annoying ot watch an hour's worth of movie with only sound form one speaker. I know I can do this in final cut, looking to do completely within iMovie '08.

A Digital-8 camera should have had a stereo mic built in, but maybe the tapes were recorded with an extra external mono mic connected. It happens.
The mono audio from one speaker can be copied to the other channel of the stereo track by either (a) sending the movie to GarageBand and doing the tweaking there by adjusting this 'pan' control:
(..click on the picture for a bigger, clearer version..)
..or by (b) 'Extracting' the audio within iMovie, and then editing the audio in another program such as Audacity or Sound Studio ..click the following little picture and then click 'Start Slideshow' for the details:
Although iMovie can handle several audio tracks, it expects each one to be in stereo and doesn't have the facility itself to move audio from one channel of the audio (..left or right..) to the other channel.
If you're not familiar with adjusting audio in iMovie '08, try watching Apple's iM'08 audio tutorial, here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie-sharing-33
Finer tuning, or rather positioning, of audio, Extracting, etc - but still not this copying from left to right, or vice versa - is available in iMovie HD 6, which is downloadable from here. Both versions will happily work (separately) on one Mac.
"..looking to do completely within iMovie '08.." ..nope; can't be done: you'll need to import the movie into GarageBand for the simplest solution. Then export it from GarageBand and re-import into iMovie:

  • Imported DV plays only left channel audio

In working with iMovie HD 6, I've imported video from my DV camera and I'm only getting sound from the left channel (I used a lapel mic plugged into the camera while I was recording). Is there a way to mix the left channel audio into stereo, or at least two channel mono so that my movie and subsequent DVD project will play sound in both channels? I'd prefer to run the fix within iMovie, but will consider exporting if necessary. I can't recreate the original interview without a lot of work.

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Yep, you can do it in GarageBand, just setting it to move the mono channel into both channels.
Or you could use the free, downloadable "Audacity", and just select the left channel, then copy it, and paste it into the empty right channel, like this.
However, to use the wonderful "Audacity", you've got to find your original audio in iMovie, then remove it from within its hidden storage, whereas GarageBand just "knows" where to find the audio if you send your movie there, so click on Share and then GarageBand, where you can select the Movie Sound track, and just turn the little 'panning' control, in the Mixer column, to the centre.

  • Airport only plays from left speaker

Just got the Airport Express to hook up to me receiver so i can play music wirelessly from my iphone 5.  I hooked it up the same way i used to hook up my phone to the receiver and its only playing out of the left speakers.  Why?  When i hook up my phone it plays out of all the speakers.  I also tried hooking the iphones headphones into the airport and it only plays out of one speaker.  For $100 i figured it would play out of all the speakers.

To Start with, check in sound balance...to do that...
Go to control panel -> Sound -> Double Click on Speakers -> Levels -> Balance...
