Zoom in on Images

Flash 8 Trial Mode, XP-P, Kinda new to Flash, too.
I'm using the template Modern Photo Slideshow that came with
the trial
version. Its default stage is 640 x 480, which I need to
change to 320 x
240. I know how to do that, but once I do that, does it
resize the rest
of the template items or do I need to manually do that? If
manually, any
pointers?
Actually, the controller in this template does not do
zooming, and I
wanted people to be able to zoom in on the vastly reduced in
size initial
image to any point on the much, much larger final zoomed
image. I hope
that makes sense. I see this all the time on various web
sites, like
Blair.com.
This template allows autoplay or manually controlling moving
between
images in the gallery. My photos are mostly 3264 x 2448, so
there is a
lot of zooming potential. I also need to add a caption to
each photo.
I'm not seeing how to put this all together. Are there any
tutorials on
this, web sites, etc that can also help? Not knowing all the
terminology
yet makes it hard and time consuming to Google all this. I
don't have
much time to finish this. I know I am never going to get it
done by
tonight. Maybe I should just PayPal someone to do it for me?
Any help available out there - either in instructions or
reasonable price
for doing it for me and delivering the raw file for me to add
the captions?
TIA,
CS

  • I want to zoom into digital image pixels.

    To demonstrate DSLR chip behavior at high magnification, I want to zoom into the frame and see how individual pixels actually look.
    But when I use the Scale tool to enlarge the picture, FCPX thinks I want to avoid seeing pixels so it mushes the image, blurring all the pixels.
    How do I get it to stop doing that? Can it be done in Motion?
    Photoshop scaling has all these Bicubic options, but it also has the Nearest Neighbor option so I can see individual pixels in the blow up, there. Is there a way to get FCPX to do the same idea?

    Peter Inova1 wrote:
    When you are zooming into a movie that is made in a way to reveal an HDSLR's blown pixels, it would be nice to see them as a pixel map.
    again: the actual compression (from any cam!) doesn't deliver single pixels.
    it starts on the sensor of the cam - ever heard of the Bayer Filter?
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bayer_filter
    if you could read out the raw data of that chip, you'd notice twice as much green 'dots' than red and blue, oops!
    next, your cam compresses '4:2:0'
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4:2:0
    that Chroma Subsampling drops 7 of every 8 'color dots' ... most pixels are 'grey'!
    finally, it's a lossy codec, working with 'assumptions'
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter_frame
    picture-prediction .... that's bits, not atoms
    on de-coding, final delivery, these 'formulas' are calculated to a 1920x1080 picture ... but that is not the 'pixel reality' from your cam, nor on its sensor, nor in the file.
    so, a zoom-to-pixel-level is a special effect, as mentioned above, create a close-up in Photoshop, showing r/g/b- squares … but this is not reality.

  • Where is the zoom slider for images in Finder?

    Since installing Lion, I have noticed that I can no longer make the thumbnails in a Finder window larger using a zooming slider (as is found in iPhoto). If I remember correctly, when I used to open a folder full of images in thumbnail format, I was able to use a slider at the bottom of the window to enlarge image thumbnails. Is this function no longer available, or am I missing something?

    Hi Captfred,
    Your answer help me a bit.
    However, in SL, I could zoom in the thumbnail / or resize the icon inside the Finder window by 2 finger pinch gesture, just like what we usually do in the Safari window.  Now it seems this gesture feature is not avaliable OR we need to do something in the setting in LION OS?
    Thank you.

  • Why doesn't the Zoom work on images in Firefox 4 ? The page Zoom works for webpages but not for pictures like Firefox 3.7 did :(

    I have already seen the "page Zoom" help article and that doesn't solve the problem.
    with Firefox 3.7 i could view an image and use the "control" & + & - keys to zoom in and out but with the new Firefox4 that zoom only works on webpages and does not work for images like it did before.
    is there a solution to this ?

  • "Stuttering" when panning/zooming a still image...?

    Hello.
    I'm working on a small project which is basically a series of zooms/pans on still images. The pans/zooms are quite slow and take place over about 6-8 seconds. There's nothing too fancy going on here, but I notice that when I do a RAM preview or render out a comp, I get small "stutters" in some of them. Does anyone have any ideas why this would be happening and any suggestions on making these animations a little more "smooth". I mean, these things aren't complex at all, and overall they're quite smooth, but there's still times when I get these stutters and I can't figure out why they'd be happening? Would appreciate some advice!
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    There are certain speeds that sync up with frame rates so that they cause judders, jitters, stuttering or whatever you want to call it. The slower the frame rate the more obvious the problem.
    If you've ever watched a western on TV or at the movies you've seen the stagecoach wheels turn backwards at various speeds. This is an example of the problem. It's actually called a stroboscopic effect. Mechanics, in the good old days when cars had carburetors and distributors, used to hook up a timing light to the #1 spark plug so that a light flashed on a timing mark on the crankshaft pulley. This light had the effect of stopping the rotation visually. That's exactly what's happening when you are moving your photograph across the frame at one of the critical speeds. Your eye is fooled and your brain can't process the movement smoothly.
    There are also other cases where the sub pixel interpolation between frames causes areas of detail to flicker between frames. The latter problem can be seen by viewing your comp a frame at a time while zoomed in to say 800% and observing the edge detail. This problem can be especially nasty when you're trying to do a smooth title or credit roll. The horizontal lines that make up fine type can almost completely vanish between fields or frames if the text is moving at the wrong speed. You can test this out by creating a single pixel high horizontal line in AE and animating it from bottom to top of the frame. The only speed where you'll get a nice solid line in every frame or field is one that is an exact multiple of the frame rate. IOW, 1 frame 1 pixel of movement, 1 frame 2 pixels of movement, and so on. Move at 1 frame and 1.33 pixels of movement and the line will appear to completely disappear then return.
    If you are working at 24fps progressive you'll find that the juddering caused by motion at critical speeds is much more problematic than projects at 29.97 fps. Interlacing, as was mentioned before, helps and gives you a wider range of motion, but interlacing can introduce more pronounced flickering in the detail if you are right at one of these critical speeds.
    This problem extends to shooting as well. Cinematography manuals contain critical panning speed charts that list the number of degrees per second you can pan with various lens (angle of view) and shutter speed combinations. There isn't a videographer out there that's tried shooting 24P video and not ended up with an unusable pan due to these critical speeds.
    The solution to successfully animating detailed images is to use the right speed (pixels per second) for your frame rate, add extra motion blur to hide the problem, or reduce the amount of detail in the image. These are the only solutions that I know of. They all limit design and timing, but what good is your design if it makes your eyes go buggy.
    The best way I know if to tell if the problem is a playback issue is to use a device or program that tells you when you're dropping frames. You can use QT (by looking at the playback rate) or in FC or PPro by having the program report dropped frames. If it's a data rate issue you need more horsepower or a better codec.

  • Circle zooming parts of image - hints to get me started

    Hi!
    I didn't know how to explain the "zoom" in the message title
    so I'm linking to the page containing the effect I want to mimic:
    "Zoom"-effect
    Can someone give me some hints on how I could remake the
    "zoom"-effect in a Flex-application? I'm not asking for the whole
    solution but for some pointers on what classes and such I should be
    using (bitmap, mask, cursor...).
    Would appreciate some answers since I really want to do this
    in Flex/ActionScript rather than Silverlight.

    You would need to track the MouseEvent.MOUSE_MOVE with an
    event listener on your 'shoe image'. You would use that to set the
    X/Y of your 'tooltip' component that had a much larger image so
    taht it followed your mouse, and translated the x/y into the other
    coordinates to move the image around underneath the viewport (like
    bigX = x * 1.2, bigY = y* 1.2 though you can easily calculate the
    scale value from the image sizes). The viewport would be a
    MaskFilter I believe. Yu would set mouseEnabled = false for the
    tooltip so that it didn't accept input from the mouse, instead
    passing through to the image underneath. I also believe that
    example use the Move transition with an easingFunction so that it
    lags behind slightly.

  • Problem using 2 ImageViews (one normal, one zoomed) on an image

    Hi, I've a problem in using 2 imageviews on an image.
    Imageview A displays an image, and it has been flipped using "scaleX = -1"
    Imageview B displays the same image as a zoomed image using viewport with "scaleX = -1"
    Unfortunately, Imageview B now displays the far right-hand side of image, insteads of the left-hand side.
    package imageview;
    import javafx.geometry.Rectangle2D;
    import javafx.scene.image.Image;
    import javafx.scene.image.ImageView;
    import javafx.scene.layout.HBox;
    import javafx.scene.paint.Color;
    import javafx.scene.Scene;
    import javafx.stage.Stage;
    var image = Image {
        url: "{__DIR__}flower.png"
    var ivA = ImageView {
        image: image
        scaleX: -1
    var ivB = ImageView {
        image: image
        fitWidth : 0
        fitHeight : 0
        viewport: Rectangle2D {
            minX: 0
            minY: 0

        width: 415
        height: 200
        scene: Scene {
            content: HBox {
                content: [ivA, ivB]
    }

    Well, I asked for a mock-up of the wanted view, not the real one which I saw already (using my own image)... :-)
    But I think I understood want you want. The problem is that you have to set the viewport position according to the image size, but this one is available only after loading it, ie. after the scene is already computed. And the Rectangle2D is immutable, you can't bind the variables.
    I solved this by updating the viewport after a click.
    Maybe we can track the image loading completion with using on replace on 'progress' or just 'width'.
    var image = Image {
        url: "{__DIR__}flower.png"
    var fullView = ImageView {
        image: image
        scaleX: -1
    var zoomedViewSize = 100;
    var zoomFactor = 1.0;
    var zoomedView: ImageView = ImageView {
        image: image
        fitWidth : 0
        fitHeight : 0
        viewport: Rectangle2D {
            minX: 0
            minY: 0
            width: 100
            height:100
        scaleX: -1
        onMousePressed: function (evt: MouseEvent): Void
            zoomedView.viewport = Rectangle2D {
                minX: image.width - zoomedViewSize
                minY: 0
                width:  zoomedViewSize
                height: zoomedViewSize
            zoomedView.requestFocus();
    Stage {
        title: "ImageView"
        width: 415
        height: 200
        scene: Scene {
            content: HBox {
                spacing: 10
                content: [ fullView, zoomedView ]
    }[EDIT] OK, it works with:
    var wdth = bind image.width on replace
        if (wdth > 0)
            zoomedView.viewport = Rectangle2D {
                minX: image.width - zoomedViewSize
                minY: 0
                width:  zoomedViewSize
                height: zoomedViewSize
    }Note that this variable definition must be after the zoomedView definition... The order of initialization is important here.

  • How do I get sharp pixels when zooming into an image?

    Motion does a great job of smoothing imported images, but for my current project, I want sharp edges on the images pixels rather than blurred-together colors. I need to zoom way into an image and show a sharp mosaic of image pixel squares. Is there any way to accomplish this?

    1) Motion shouldn't be blurring your imported images at all - if you scale them large enough (easiest in the Inspector), you should be able to see the individual pixel blocks of color.
    2) You could always use the Pixelate filter (pretty sure it's there, I'm away from Motion right now)

  • Zooming on an image that's not the centre of picture?

    Hi,
    I have been trying to find a tutorial or info on how to do the following...
    I am using PE4 and I like some of my images to zoom in on certain things in a photograph.  I am using the Presets which works fine if you want to zoom in to the centre of the photograph but how do I zoom in on an angle?  For example if there are 3 people in a photograph and I want the focus to be on the person on the right how do I change the path so that the zoom starts from full photograph (where pic is taking up the whole screen) and have it zoom towards the face of the person on the right side?  Is there a way to change the path without having to offset the photo to begin with?  At present I can only zoom into the centre which isn't always the effect I am after.
    I have tried several things but am just having no luck - am I even in the right area?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Thanks so much. I have taken an annual subscription to Muvipix.com and have already got my moneys worth!  I have tried unsuccessfully in the past to get that pan/zoom effect but now that I understand keyframing it makes it quite simple.
    Just a question regarding the DVD menu templates that are able to be downloaded for subcribers - once downloaded, how do I use them as a menu template in my project (PE4)?  Do I have to go via "get media" or is there some other way to import them so that they can be used?
    Thanks - I can see hours spent now watching tutorials!
