Zoom Resizes Window Problem

I've got CS2 and I'm finding it very annoying that whenever I zoom in or out in a document the window resizes. I can have two documents open and their windows neatly sized to fit the screen, I zoom in on one and suddenly that document is filling the whole screen. Yet, when I go to Edit / Preferences / General I see that the 'Zoom Resizes Window' box is unchecked.
The only way I can zoom in without the window resizing is via the Navigator window. But that's more awkward. Any ideas anyone?

Ah, excellent, thanks Ed, I didn't notice that check box. A case of too many check boxes spoils for wroth .. perhaps?

I have been using Imageready for years, and now trying to
switch to Fireworks, since Imageready is gone... I am afraid I will
be here a lot to ask questions...
My first one is: Is there an option to automatically resize
the window if you zoom in or out with Ctrl-+/-
In Photoshop you can set it in the preferences: General
--> Zoom Resizes Windows, but haven't found the equivalent in
Fireworks. I'd like to organize a number of pictures on the screen
so that I can make decisions where they go on a webpage...
    Thanks,

On PC's, document windows don't resize in any program unless
    you resize
them manually. If they behave that way on Macs, that's a new
    concept for

I'm not sure what you mean by images behind it. If you mean

  • "Zoom Resizes Windows" doesn't work in CS4

I have the "Zoom Resizes Windows" option checked in Preferences. However, when I use the scroll wheel on my mouse (which is assigned to zoom in the Photoshop software), it only zooms in/out on the image within the window. WHY do they put the option in there when it CLEARLY doesn't work???
I have my image document windows "undockable", so that I have the flexibility to move them around and zoom in/out as I please when I have more than one. But the zoom does NOT zoom the document window. It keeps it the same size while moving the image within it. This "Zoom Resizes Windows" option is NOT working.
Is this a joke, or am I missing something? Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

I too am having the same issue as Whintersby. I find that it is not pixel related as much as it is the physical size of the resized window.
Note the lower right corner. Once the resize dragger disappears the window will no-longer resize up using the CTRL ++. Unless you first physically drag the corner with the mouse a little. At that point the functionality returns. As Whintersby  has said it is quite frustrating and quite disruptive to a solid work flow.
If anyone has found a solution to this it would be quite helpful.
For any Adobe techs that might be here, I am on Win7 (64).
While this may possibly be a moot point as I intend to upgrade to CS5, I want to make sure that it gets resolved and does not simply continue into CS5.

  • ITunes 10.6.1, resize window problem

I know this has been asked before, for earlier versions of iTunes, but I can't find a satisfactory answer.
Just changed my 24" white iMac (running SL) to a 21.5" iMac with Lion and iTunes 10.6.1.
With iTunes, it seems I have only 2 options:
Full screen mode: works fine, use it a lot, can see everything.
Non-full screen mode, which I want to use ocasionally for a quick change of something but now iTunes is too long and all of the bottom tool bar is below the bottom of my screen. As it's below the bottom of the screen, there are no grab handles to resize it.
Is this just how iTunes works now (silly, as none of the other programs act this way), or is there a way to deal with this?
    Thanks
    Andrew
ps the "Apple Support Communities" now seems to be the only place I go to where automatic spell check no longer seesm to work!

Solved my own problem. Option-click the green button is now working, even though I tried numerous time before posting with no success!
Also I've just seen the spell check "abc" above, but am wondering why this is no longer automatic?

  • Help resizing window using PS CS4 on PC

I am trying to figure out a way to put 4 or 6 images on my screen and be able to move them around to compare them.
Am using Photoshop CS4 on PC and XP Home. I open 4 or 6 files and float all in windows. I then zoom out and make 1 image smaller, so it is smaller than the window. Then match zoom and location to get the zoom ratios the same. Now I have 4 or 6 images that are in windows that are larger than the image.
Is there any way I can make the windows smaller to be the same as the image other than do each one individually by dragging on the corner? Is there a shortcut to do this? Any way to adjust all the windows at once?
I realize this is a bit confusing. Let me know if I can clarify the question better. Thanks.

Go to Edit>Preferences>General and tick the Zoom Resizes Windows box.

  • Resize window to fit not working

I can't get the resize window to fit option working. It has worked in the past; I have no idea what changed.
    I am using Adobe CS4 (11.0.2) on Windows 7 (6.1) 32 bit operating system.
I made sure the resize window to fit option is turned on and deleted the preferences file. How can I fix this?

Where is that option. I know of menu View>Fit On Screen shortcut Ctrl|Cmd+0 and that you can set a script event manager open event to run a Script or action to do a View>Fit on Screen but the only Preferences option I know of for image window size is "Zoom resizes window"???

  • Cs4 Zoom Resize...and a litte rant...and then a plea.

Hey Adobe, I've been a Photoshop user for over a decade and, for as long as I can remember, the two zoom resize options (the one attached to the zoom tool option bar and the one in the preferences menu) have allowed me to set the window resize option for my keyboard zoom and my zoom tool independently. This was tremendously useful for me since most of the time I don't want to resize my window and the keyboard shortcut would zoom in and out of my image in a useful and predictable manner.  Having the second option was great because it allowed me to fit my image to a smaller or larger window with a single click of the zoom tool.
I was reading the online help for the the zoom resize function and, under the comments, another user had the same concern that, though there are STILL two options, they no longer were independent.  Much to my disappointment an adobe representative (somewhat pompasly) remarked that the zoom functionality was flawed previously and that it's current inception, with two options that do the same thing and are  thus redundant, it is the more consistent (implying correct) manner in which the functionality ought to behave. I strongly contest that point of view and feel that I, as an expert user, have been undermined in favor of a arbitrarily dumbed down solution that adds several seconds to operations that I perform perhaps hundreds of times daily.
This brings me to a related but separate point. The update of the user interface from CS3 to CS4, with the change to the zoom functionally being at the heart of the issue, is inferior to previous versions. There are many new issues a few of which I will list for your benefit:
A liberal waste of my screen real estate in the palettes and menus
Annoying and unpredictable tab behavior (whcih still seem to crop up even though I have both options disabled)
Minimized windows that cannot be moved
A mind bogglingly poor lay out of the adjustment layer palettes (massive, unscalable, with textless icons and tiny handles on razor thin color bars)
'Full screen with menu" mode that now covers up my windows task bar (really, Adobe how dare you?)
Utterly mystifying hit areas of color palette sliders which will select and move the wrong slider if I don't click precisely on the intended one
Poor performance under openGL (I have a Nvidia 8800 which is a middle-high end card).
By my own, totally subjective account, It is fundamentally worse... for me.
Now I'm sure there are many users who are happy with the updates you have made and I applaud you for catering to your base, but why in God's name would you remove and redisgn functionality without offering the option of employing the previous inception. It is a slap in the face, Adobe. So I emplore you as a loyal coustomer, as a user who depends on your software for my livelyhood and as a design professional who interacts with your product more than my family...Please give me more control over the UI of your software. Please don't remove change functionallty. It frustrates me and wastes hundreds of hours of my time over the course of a year. Let me have two window resize options!

This is a user to user forum. Adobe does not read this. But I, at least, agree with some of what you posted. There is a feedback form that I have attached that will get your concerns to the right people. Hope this helps.

  • Slow performance when resizing windows

Hi I have a macbook pro 2.2ghz with 2gb ram. Certainly capable of resizing windows, however when I resize windows I get very poor performance. I always have to wait for the window to redraw on screen. This is unacceptable. This powerful of a machine can't resize windows in real time? I'm running Tiger 10.4.11. Is this normal behavior? Anyone else experience this? I appreciate any help. Thanks.

That's not right. What happens when you run your visualizer in iTunes? You should be able to get 60 FPS. Try running your hardware tester once and see if you may have a graphics problem.

  • Resizing window affects data aquisition

Hi Guys, got a really annoying problem that I've been trying to solve for about 2 weeks now, I'm hoping someone will be able to help me.
We communicate through a dll to our data aquisition box (custom). Our custom data aquisition box has an array which we read in a timed loop every 20ms (although the array is present for around 50ms), once read we send a command saying that we have read the data.
Once we've read the data we put it into a queue. The logger then reads from this queue, all works fine on a normal run. However if we resize any window (not just a labview one) this seems to knock out our Timed loop. i.e. we miss 1-2 arrays worth of data (50-100ms). This is strange as we have it in a Highest priority VI running in the "Data aquisition" thread. We also do lots of other things i.e. read from a TDMS file and read/write to global variables and display data on a graph, this doesn't seems to have much of an affect on the timed loops, its just when we resize a window. Obviously we do not want to risk losing critical data, so we need a way of stopping this from happening?
Its almost as though the VI is running in the User interface thread and is a lower priority than the resize window method.
Does anyone have any ideas on how we can solve this issue?
    Thanks in advance
    Joe
We are collecting data at 1Khz and our Dll is thread safe and is set to "run in any thread".
    Using Labview 2009f3

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your replies. Sorry for late reply, I was out the office yesterday.
Unfortunately i can not post my source code however i have made a small mock up of how the system generally works, to give you an idea.
josbone: Our dll is classed as thread safe and we have it running as such - i thought this could be the case to start with. I presume because it is classed as "any thread" it could still be running in the UI thread though?
Tinnitus: I have attached a mock up that shows the main points in the system. I think I got a little confused on my previous reply. The DAQ holds the data there for 50ms and that is our only chance to read the data(more data comes through and our buffer can only hold 50ms worth). Which if the Timed Loop executes at 20ms should be fine.
DFGray: I got really excited reading your reply - it sounded like it was a great fix, however, unfortunately it did not work
    Hope the mock code helps
    Regards,
    Joe

  • Why is CS6 Zoom change window size is different then previous versions?

Why in CS6 when zoom changes window size and a folating window fits in Photoshop window or on other display screen do I get scroll bars where a select all selection marching ants are not visible on all four sides till I drag out the window to get rid of the scroll bars so I can see all of marching ants.  In preious versions of Photoshop space for scroll bars is present but there are no scrool bar, select all marching ants are visible on all four sides when an image's window fits in Photoshop window or on second display. Is there a way to make CS6 work like previous versions? Also if I just open a document and Photoshop fits it to Photoshop window or second display the floating window is correct without scroll bars. Zoon add then even when not needed....

Without manually resizing each open document window on my Mac, Photoshop 13.x would be simply unusable.
I hadn't posted anything on the subject because the system on which I run Ps 13.0.1 is based on a laptop (MacBook) literally rescued from the trash and with minimal specs.  The graphics card is not even involved in processing.
I put up with it because I'm basically using it to run ACR 7.2RC1, then bring the converted and ACR-adjusted onto my regular working machine running CS4.
In a nutshell, nothing will make the window fit the main monitor, not Fit To Window, nor 100% view, nor any shortcut.
I need to drag the window manually from the lower right-hand corner in order for it to fit the monitor.  Otherwise, there are substantial gaps on the right and at the bottom.  I never run in tab view.
    For the sake of thoroughness:
2007, 2GHz MacBook 2,1, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB of RAM (can use 3 GB), 160 GB internal boot disk, dedicated FireWire400 external HD for Ps scratch disk, external Time Machine HD.  Dual external monitors + built-in laptop screen Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
The Mac-Intel is used for no other purpose than running ACR 7.2RC1 and the only other application I occasionally run on said Mac-Intel is TextEdit.
My main working machine is a Power Mac (PPC) G5 Quad with 16 GB of RAM, on which 11.0.2 is the last version of Photoshop to run, so I have the Mac-Intel system described above just to run ACR 7.x under Photoshop 13.0.1.  I convert my raw files in ACR7.x open them in Ps 13.0.x and save them via Ethernet to an external HD connected to the G5 Quad for further processing in CS4.
2.5 GHz Power Mac (PPC) G5-Quad; 16GB RAM; mutant, flashed 550MHz nVidia GeForce 7800GTX 1,700MHz 512MB VRAM; ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D LP SCSI card; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8 boot drives; intrusive Spotblight, Dashboard and Time Machine permanently disabled; dual 22" CRT monitors; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet; FW flatbed scanner; 2 SCSI scanners (one tabloid-size transparency scanner and a film scanner); various internal & external HDs; FW Epson 2200 and Ethernet Samsung ML-2850ND printers; 2 X Back-UPS RS 1500 XS units.

  • SAP Script  - resize window / paragraph

    Hello Gurus,
I have two problems related to sap script. ( ver 4.6c)
I have copied the original order confirmation form from 000 client in diff.languages like FR/DE/EN ( these forms are used by diff. offices in diff. location ) now we have to create a form for our china office location so I copied an existing form ( FR language) to language ZH.
    a. I cannot resize or move the window of the form ZH, to do this I have to convert the original laguage to ZH ( original language of the form is FR) , to change the original language I have to edit the FR language form and use the utilities->convert org.lang option , my question is if I do this process what will happen to our FR language settings users? or is there anyother way to do this ( move or resize window ) without disturbing other forms.
    b. I am using two paragraph settings for printing the item line in the order form, ex. ZZ and IS , if I use IS the item line appears but for ZZ there is no item lines printed on the form. ( blank ) What could be the problem for using ZZ Par.format.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks and best regards,
    A drop in an Ocean

Try to identify the original language of the SAPscript.
EX: GOTO SE71, give your form name and language ZH. select radio button Header and click change.
under adminstrative data, identify the original language. EX: if original language is DE
GO back to SE71, now give your form name and key in language as DE. Modify all windows here.. i.e. re-size etc., it will automatically gets changed in your ZH language. Also you can create new paragraph formats or change existing paragraph formats here using original language. you can see all changes in form ZH.
If you want to re-size in "ZH" itself .. try to change original language to ZH.
I guess, this info will help you to close the thread.

  • Nested Window Problem

Hopefully someone out there can help solve this one.
How do you get a child window to automatically resize within a parent
    window?
On their own both the child window and the parent window behave as
expected but once we attempt to load the child window into the parent
window the child window is sized to some unknown but excessively large
    size.
Can this be solved with some creative use of parent size relationships
or do we have to programmatically size the child window?
Any help/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Glen,
Thank you for the prompt reply.
We have already done what you suggested (My explanation was not very
clear ... sorry) to no avail.
Any more takers and/or ideas anyone?

You may need to dynamically tell the child window what its parent is (such
as a named grid that exists on the parent window). Setting the child
window to size to its parent should work once the child window knows who
its parent is. You should be able to put your window into that grid at
specified row and column coordinates. To reset the parent and position a
widget in a grid, you do something like the following:
    <Widget>.Parent = NIL;
    <Widget>.Row = 1;
    <Widget>.Column = 1;
    <Widget>.Parent = <TargetGrid>;
I believe that you should be able to do the same thing for a window, too
    (using "Self.Window" instead of "<Widget>").

  • Flash causing Windows problems.

I had a problem with my Windows not working correctly, with the following errors:  The topmost window that was open could not be minimized or closed without having Task Manager opened and with it as the topmost window; the Start Menu bar wouldn't come up from being hidden when I moved my mouse down to it without, again, opening Task Manager and having it open onscreen first; drop down menu choices don't work, regardless of Task Manager, without my using the arrow buttons to make my choice highlighted.  Now, we inserted a brand new hard drive, installed Windows fresh on the new drive, dleted EVERYTHING off the old hard drive, and as soon as I installed Flash, the problem immediately started again.  Also, in addition to this, a couple of our graphics drivers files were corrupted, and while they were fixed the issue remained.  This corruption took place on both hard drives after the problem began.  Finally, I at one point started messing around with screen resolutions and text sizes, and for a while the computer worked just fine after that...until I put it to sleep for a couple of hours, upon which the problem manifested itself wholly again.
    HELP!!!!

Well, closing and resizing windows is purely an OS function. Flash Player (in spite of what you're seeing) has absolutely NOTHING to do with Windows GUI operations. It's a browser plugin, which means it ONLY operates in your browser and ONLY on pages that contain Flash media. EVERYTHING else outside of that is your OS and other software.
Additionally Flash Player utilizes audio and video drivers through the browser, but it cannot and does not modify them in any imaginable way. If your drivers were corrupted on a new OS install, I'd submit that they needed to be updated BEFORE you installed anything on the system. I do about a dozen "reloads" a month for people and the FIRST thing I do after Windows is installed, is run Windows and driver updates until the OS is FULLY up to date. That's before the first piece of third-party software ever goes onto the HD.
The fact that it goes awry coming out of sleep (I assume with the browser and Flash Player not running when it was put to sleep) would further indicate some serious OS issues, since Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer) would be the ONLY thing running upon waking the system.
