Zoom to selection possible?

Hi! Is there any way in Illustrator to zoom to selected object (I want to maximize the selected object to the window)? There is the FitArtboard and the FitAll, but a ZoomToSelected would be great.
Regards / Jimmy

There is sort of very inconvenient work around that might actually impact the feasibility of this as a practical future feature addition to the zoom tool.
Here goes:  (it is over the top)
draw an artboard slightly larger or smaller than the art
use the command from the artbard option dialog to fit to artwork bounds or fit to selected art
Set the artboard and hit command 0.
It might be possible to script this or write code as a feature
The problem is right now there is no way to hide an artboard, make it invisible or select it zoom and them hide it once zoomed.
Also no way to assign a keyboard short cut to a script or use a script in an action and then you would be able to assign a keyboard shortcut.
This should now be possible and very handy.
Being able to assign per document  keyboard shortcut to zoom into particular artwork on the document level would be even more helpful.
Especially on complex work.

  • Zoom to selected

Would it be possible to have a command that would zoom the view to show the objects that are currently selected? It sure would make it easier to navigate to what you're working on regardless of size.

All the time in your case.
I'm working with state maps in Illustrator, and in these, there are some municipalities so small that they can't be selected manually. Also, it's easier to select the object if it's named as the municipality itself and you're doing selection based on a list. But these objects are so small that sometimes they appear as a small dots, even if they are 3 or 4 contiguous objects. If I zoomed in to these and then I select others located outside the zoomed-in area, I have to zoom out, then zoom in on the others. It'd be easier (and faster) to zoom to selected.
I think if we are asking for a feature, such a petition is based on the fact we need such a feature. We've worked around the missing feature and found another way to do the job but we find it difficult or harder or more time consuming than having the feature.
Have I already said the word "feature"?

  • Using band zoom to select all data points within the band

I'm feeling stupid this morning. I'm a new user with 2011, but haven't figured out how to copy a portion of data. I can use view 2D axis system to view my data. Then I use band zoom to get to the portion I need, but for the life of me I can't get it to copy that portion. I have set flags at the beginning and end and such, but the best I get is the beginning point, a single no value point and the end point. I am not getting all the points in between the flags. Am I supposed to somehow flag all points in the zoom view? I have done a search, but can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Robert,
This is a pretty easy and straight forward thing to do:
Put you data into the VIEW window. Then pick the BAND cursor in the toolbar (see below)
Select the "Set Flags" icon in the VIEW windows with the data and the Band Cursor:
After you have the data selected with the FLAGS (the data points will be displayed in a thicker line style) click on the "Copy Data Points" icon:
You will get a full copy of the data in the band, copied to a  new channel in the Data Portal. In the example below I dragged the new data into both windows (not that the red data is still highlited by the flags, this it's a thicker line style).
That should answer your question, please let me know if you have additional questions,

  • User Defined Fields, Is Dropdown Selection possible?

    Dear Experts,
In User Defined Field -1 can we define our own values, so that for this field we can make drop down selection, instead of manual entry.

  • ALV Grid row selection possible options

    Hello Experts,
I have an ALV Grid output with rows color codes based on certain status for each rows. Now when the user selects one or more lines to do the next process, what happens now as sap standard is the selected lines becomes highlighted ( kind of yellowish) and the selection button gets pressed.
But what the user is requesting is ,lets say he selects one blue and another red line, then both becomes yellow (because of the SAP standard highlighting) ...he would like those line colors to be still red and blue and only the selection button pressed.
Is there a way to do that is ALV grid? I'm trying to convince him to look at the status colum if he gets confused with what colors he selected or I will have to use a checkbox field as the first column and and hide the ALV selection option.
But was curious to find if this is possible in ALV?Or any other suggestions to handle this requirement is welcome.
    Mat

    Hi Mat,
I am curious if your user is so arogant when he buys a car too. Does he say to dealer "Sorry I don't want this gear lever to be placed here and here, I want it a litte bit higher. Can you please fix that?". This sounds like you are struggling with dumb user. I have never heard of someone complaining that the standard highlight is in wrong color. You already provided to him row colors, right? I think most of the users would be hugging you for such facilities.
I think in your case as the user is inalterable you should go for the checkboxes as you say. This way maybe you will somehow satisfy his needs (as the row colors will be kept even during selection). Personally I wouldn't bother such requirements. As long as the program reports correct data, he should not complain at all.
    Good luck then
    Marcin

  • Zoom into selection, progressively?

Can I setup Illustrator to zoom in and out from the selected object(s) instead of mouse point on ALT and centre otherwise?

In case it's version CS6 or lower on a Mac, there's a plugin available from worker72a.com
    costs 5$ IIRC
nice thing about it: it's in the menu, so you can assign a shortcut.

  • Auto-zoom to selected object?

I have a mystery ghost path that I can't find. It shows up in the layer palette. But I can't see it on my artboard. I have Show Bounding Box and Show Edges turned on. I alt/option click the layer to select everything. But there's nothing selected on my artboard. (And my artboard is sized to fit artwork bounds).
Are there any scripts to auto-zoom/scroll the canvas to a selected object? Most 3D apps have a "Frame Object" command that moves and zooms the camera to make the selected object centered on the screen. Is there something like that for Illustrator?

I don't think so. Just lock down anything you want to keep, Select All, and hit delete. The phantom guide should go away.

Display first your image on an invisible label. Once displayed you can get the size of the image and you can redimension it as you want.

  • Is there a way to zoom into selected objects in Pages?

Working in the page layout mode in Pages and I note that there is no way to zoom into a particular object or selected objects. This is really a pain if you are working on a poster much larger than the screen and you want to zoom right to a particular object. Zooming only seems to go to upper left corner and you have to scrool around to find the object you were working on.
Has anyone figured out some magical way to zoom into an object on a page?

This may not be the perfect answer, but it's pretty good in some situations. Smart Scroll has a grab hand fetaure that you may like.

If what you are asking is how to make the list so that you
can selection multiple items, then all you need to do within
Dreamweaver is to select the list (make sure that Type is set to
list, and then check the Allow Multiple box. Or go into the code
for the select tag and add multiple="multiple" in the opening tag
    of the select.
If what you are asking is how to handle the multiple
selection on the server side to filter your recordset that is
different and a bit more involved and will require the knowledge of
the server language you're working with (and possibly the database
    too).

  • Keyboard shortcut for master selection possible?

Is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to a particular master slide? There are 2-3 masters I switch back and forth between, and it's a real pain to go to the mouse when I need to switch masters. Creating a shortcut doesn't seem to fall into the standard paradigm, because there's no menu item for it. How can I do this?

Select all the text, and then select the chosen font.
Alternatively, create two similar styles, one using Arial, the other with Courier.

  • Pan & Zoom - slide selection

First let me say that I am a brand new user and working on my first project, a slide show. How do I select an individual photo for use with the pan & zoom feature in the slide show I set up. When I click on a photo in the timeline, all the photos which are part of the "scene" are highlighted and then when I then click on the Pan & Zoom Tool, I get an error message telling to "select a single image or video clip."

    1) Slideshow created in Elements Organizer and then imported in Premiere Elements
Such a slideshow appears as a video file in PrE, you can apply Pan and Zoom tool directly to this file in Sceneline or Timeline, or you can Rightclick the slideshow in Timeline or Sceneline and select Break Apart Elements Organizer slideshow, and then apply Pan and zoom tool to individual photos.
    2) Slideshow created in Premiere Elements itself
You cannot apply the Pan and Zoom tool to this entire Slideshow in timeline or sceneline unlike above. In timeline, you can select individual photos and click on the Pan and Zoom tool. In sceneline you can select the slideshow and right click and select Ungroup scenes and then select a single photo and then go to Pan and Zoom tool.

  • Slideshow with Scene Selection - Possible?

    Hi all,
I am trying to create a slideshow with jpegs in Encore and would like to add a chapter selection menu for each slide. I can't figure out how to do this in Encore, is this possible? Can I also add music to the slideshow?
    Thanks in advance!

Is there any way to add buttons so I can have all my selections on 1 page?
Yes. As Ann says, you can do this in Photoshop. As she points out, study the Layer structure of one of the Library Menus closely. The little symbols at the beginning of the Layers' names are very important. Also, study the various Layers within the Button Layer Sets. They too have specialized naming conventions, that must be followed, and be sure to turn the Visibility OFF for any Highlight Layer (Button Sub-picture Highlight). These will be turned on, when your user navigates to that Button.
Also, there is a limit to the number of Buttons that one can have on a Menu, by the DVD-specs. IIRC, it's 32 for 4:3 Menus and 16 for 16:9 Menus. Not sure if those exact limits apply to BD Menus, but we're talking DVD-Video here, and not BD.
Also, when you look at the Menu .PSD in Photoshop, pay special attention to the order of the Button Layer Sets. Button #1 will be at the bottom of the Layers Palette, with Button #2 above it, and so one. This also establishes the Button Routing, i.e. what happens when you press the arrow keys on a DVD player's remote.
In Encore, you can alter the Button Routing to do whatever you want. I believe that Button Routing is only Automatic in PrPro. You might want to check this out. Unfortunately, I have used PrPro for authoring only rarely, and rely on Encore for all but simple Auto-Play DVD-Videos.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • What happened to zoom in and zoom out selection, so you could make the screen zoom in and out?

I added zoom in and zoom out to my yahoo toolbar and from one of the sites that let you pick buttons to add to your toolbar, and now it has disappeared. And I can not find zoom anywhere. Have you heard of this happening before? If so do you have a resolution for this? Thanks in advance. Dan
