Zooming Hyperlinks

I have a catalog made in InDesign and exported to PDF. It contains thousands of Hyperlinks that lead to text anchors within the same document. I want it to default to a two page spread but when you click on a picture, it zooms in to the text anchor on another page at about 150%. Is it possible to do this anymore? We could do it in Pagemaker easily, but the option isn't there in InDesign, so I thought it might need to be done in Acrobat.

  • Interactive Page Curl - But printing?

    My client is insistent on having an interactive PDF (with mousover zooms, hyperlinks and so on) including a page turn. This is fine, I have read and done the tutorials on iPDFs (exporting as SWF, importing to Acrobat etc).
    However, the client wants his customers to be able to print from the iPDF, which seems reasonable, but the swf file has no pages that Acrobat recognises. I realise it won't print the page turns.
    Is there a way to get it to print? can you 'hide' a print version of the pdf inside, can you set the swf to recognise pages, is there a setting in InDesign's export to swf, or Acrobat's import, I can click?
    We're on cs5.

    I think you'd have a lot less grief if you made two versions.
    I agree Peter, I really do, but they only want one. Account handler has promised something before checking or asking properly. Also, account handler is the company owner!

    On the PDF can you add in a layer and insert the PDF into that layer, and leave it stacked under the iPDF.
    That way there's really two versions but the print version is hidden under the iPDF - and then if they print that page it should print the PDF page.
    Sounds good, is that something I'd do in Indesign?

  • Hyperlinks, how can I zoom in on part of a page on a pdf.

    I have made a 12 page pdf with hyperlinks in Indesign. The contents page has 2 links to a page.
    The 1st link is to the page as a whole and it jumps to the whole page and thats ok..
    The 2nd link refers to a small paragraph on the same page but jumps to the whole page.
    Both links do exactly the same thing. So whats the point in 2 links?
    How can I make the 2nd hyperlink zoom in on the small paragraph of type only?

    I don't think there is a way to assign a zoom view for a link within Indesign. In Acrobat, you can assign a page view that zooms in on a specific area.
    Here is a suggestion. Instead of two links that goes to the same page, use only one. When the user is on this particular page, create a rollover that is a zoom in view of the paragraph.

  • Hyperlinking Overriding Marquee Zoom?

    Hello all - I'm a new member to this forum and have what is (I hope) a simple question...  I've got a series of PDF documents that have hyperlinks embedded in them from another application (ArcGIS).  The hyperlinks work great with Adobe Reader 8 (they do exactly what they are supposed to do) so that end of things is good.  What I'm finding though is that when I try and use the marquee zoom tool in AR8, it only lets me use it outside the area where the hyperlinks are (basically just the white space around the map).  As soon as I hover the marquee zoom tool over the map, it gives me the finger (not literally) to click on the hyperlink it is over top of and marquee zoom is not available unless I again go out over the white space around the map.  It works fine starting in the white space and ending within the map but not at all from just inside the map area (again, just get the finger to select a hyperlinked feature).
    The puzzler for me is that this issue is occurring on some new laptops we have just purchased but on older laptops we have (again with Adobe Reader 8), it does not occur at all - marquee zoom works from anywhere on the page and the hyperlinks work properly as well.  I've looked through all the options and menus in Adobe Reader but can't see anything that would override this behaviour...does anyone out there know of how to resolve this issue?

    I printed all the menu items and found out, that marquee zoom has a value "Zoom":
    [cName:ZoomSubMenu, oChildren:[[cName:ZoomTo],[cName:Zoom],[cName:ZoomDrag] ....
    Unfortunately app.execMenuItem("Zoom") doesn't execute this item and no error is shown. ZoomTo and ZoomDrag are executed.
    What problem it might be here? I have the XIth version of Acrobat Pro.

  • Pinch and zoom stop my hyperlinks working

    i have a folio that works well and navigates as it should, my customer requested pinch and zoom so i added it (my inDesign pages are all linked PDF files with hyperlinks on them so it was just a case of rebuiling the articles and Folio with the PDF format). Now the pinch and zoom work but all my hyperlinks are broken, any ideas, hopefully it is just a setting i need to change.
    i have both folios active in different acrobat.com accounts and i updated all my software 8th Feb 2012.
    I need to release this as an App ASAP through the DPS single edition but i don't want to pay for it until i know it will work.

    Yes that is it - i have a few strange issues but i am solving them 1 by 1 and it is looking good now.

  • Default zoom factor for bookmarks and hyperlinks

    In Acrobat Prof. 8.1.2, is it possible to set a default zoom factor for
    newly created bookmarks or for hyperlinks referring to pages in the same
    document? Is it possible to change the zoom factor for all such hyperlinks
    in one step without having to edit each of them individually?

    That book needs so much clean up I don't think you can fix it, sorry.
    I'd start over - again, apply the above child's book example to start another book.
    Be sure to replace the boiler plate text/images with yours, then reposition....don't just dump yours on top of them.
    If you can't use the child's book TOC example, search here on the topic, but don't ignore the minimum requirements in any case.
    And again, use Pages or InDesign if you want more control over your e-pub.

  • Temporarily disable hyperlinks when zoomed in? (OS 3.0.1)

    Hi all,
    Is there a way in Mail or Safari on the iPhone to temporarily disable all hyperlinks when zoomed in? I am visually impaired and zoom in quit a lot on HTML email messages and in Safari. I can't count the number of times I've accidentally activated a hyperlink when panning around the page while zoomed in. This is very annoying! I can hardly read an entire article while zoomed in without activating some link on that page.
    I don't think there is a way but I wanted to at least ask the forum before submitting feedback to Apple. Any other suggestions on how to avoid this annoyance will be appreciated.

    Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to do that. I feel your pain; I have an eye problem as well and it's kind of frustrating, but it helps if you just try to avoid pressing the links while zooming.

  • How to hyperlink from a pdf file to a specific page in a second pdf file

    I would like to setup a set of pdf documents, on the hard disk of a PC or Mac, that can be open in acrobat pro and have hyperlinks that jump to, and open in a new window, in acrobat pro, to a given page of a second document in the set.
    It seems to me to be something that everyone would want to do and should be simple enough.
    But I seem to be missing something.
    I had partial success a few years ago using what I recall are the following general points:
    Create files in word,
    Use absolute address
    Use / not \,
    Converting the spaces in the address to %20
    Set the hyperlink base to “file:///T:/PdfDocumentsFolder/”
    Add location with  #page=3 to end of file name, 
    Convert to pdf with acrobat pdfmaker
    Open pdf with web browser into reader.(could not get it to work on mac with OS 9) by Checking Edit-Preferences-Internet-Web Browser Options-Display PDF in browser
    This will allow the pdf to open to a given page, but only in the acrobat reader under MS IE, Not in Acrobat pro and not on a mac even in the reader.
    Now I have a large (500) PDF documents with a very large number of comments and a key user switched to a Mac and can not automatically go to the page and would lose or have to transfer comments that have been made on the pdfs.
    I have looked at and tried a number of things that have not worked:
    Change all the links by hand:
    Tools-Advanced Editing-Link
    Action-Open file
    I can not see where when Inserting a link by hand one can place the page number
    Action-Open weblink
    Close, This can open a file,
    If Edit-Preferences-Internet-Web Browser Options-Display PDF is checked it will jump to a page
    But if it is not checked it will open in acrobat pro and not to the page
    Does not seem to work on a mac
    Looked at acrobat javascript
    Don’t seem to see any method that would allow a page number
    Under open document
    Open under a URL
    app.launchURL("Document.pdf", true);
    seems to error if a #page=2 is add to file name
    Looked at security
    Don’t seem to see that there is anything in the preferences that can be set to enable the jump to page action
    Looked at privileged and non-privileged and did not see how that would help
    Looked at adding disclosed=true;
    function Disclose()
    this.disclosed = true;
    Looked at Portfolios to see if some kind of group of documents would allow the jumps but could not find a solution.
    I have not looked at bookmarks to see if I bookmarked every page “Pagexxx” and then jump to the bookmark would get around the problem.
    So I am not getting the right combination and could use some help

    In a similar vain within the word source documents I was able to get a hyperlinks to make the same kind of jump to a page using a VBA macro with the following call:

    I did not see that the “go to view link” could change documents. I thought it was only within a document.
    I manually added two “go to view links” and that seems to work on both mac and pc computers.
    That brings up two questions.
    For old files can a acrobat java script batch file be setup to read the hyperlinks in a pdf document  and replace them with a “go to view link” style?
    Can one place a “go to view link” style in a word document and then have the adobe convert to acrobat process it into the pdf format with the rest of the document? (or set up the converter to make word hyperlinks change to pdf “go to view links”?

  • Can't use toolbar, right-click menu or hyperlinks

    For some reason when I open a PDF, the bottom toolbar that fades in and out does not function at all. I can't click the save, print, zoom, next page buttons. Also,  when you right click on the PDF, the menu appears in a different spot than where you clicked.  I also have the issue that I cannot click any hyperlinks in the PDF. When I hold my mouse over them, it rapidly switches between the text editing mouse icon and the finger hand mouse icon.. I have also noticed that when you try to move the fading toolbar, that the toolbar you have clicked and started to drag appears far above/below where the mouse is.
    I have tried playing with many of the settings in the Edit > Preferences panel, with no luck on any of the. I have also fully uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader X with no luck. I have tried opening the PDF on multiple other computers and they can all open and function properly. I am not using a work around by downloading the PDF and using the actual Adobe Reader rather than the IE version. (I have also tried opening the PDF in FireFox and it too has the same issue.)  Any suggests would be great, I have no clue what else to do! Thank you in advanced

    I think I have solved the problem. If anyone else is having an issue with this, try looking at your font size settings in Control Panel > Display (Windows 7) . It needs to be set to iether 100% or 125% for Adobe Reader to work correctly.

    Sub Problem:
    I am making an array of quads of all the hyperlinks in a document. I would like to automatically skip over all the bookmarks in the starting pages of a document and just get the links of the hyperlinks.
    Now I have to manually set the pages that contain bookmarks so they are not included in the array.
    Is there any way to determine if a link is a book mark or hyperlink in java script?
    It would help automate the conversion I need below

    I have been working on converting a set of pdf files with 1000’s of hyperlinks like www.site.com\folder1\file1.pdf#page=10
    To jump to a local copy of the files with a relative type link
    ../folder1/file1.pdf and then go to the proper page.
    I have found that it can be done manually by changing the hyperlink to a javascript

    and setting each destination file with a disclose()=true;

    I have resorted to the following plan using acrobat javascript, an external keyboard macro recorder and excel in combination to get around the problem
    Four folder level acrobat javascripts with “buttons”
    One to get all the link quads in an array, in the pdf and report the total number
    The second creates a form field in the far corner of the first page and moves there.
    The third jumps to each link found by creating a form field just to the left of the link and zooms in so it can be selected by a “mouse click” from the keyboard macro recorder 
    The forth deletes the form field
    The keyboard macro recorder runs javascript 2 and then 3 then clicks on the link just to the right of the middle of the screen and uses keys to get to the advanced editing to get to edit the hyperlink .
    The hyperlink is then copied to excel where it is converted using string functions to the needed javascript text to be copied back.
    To the acrobat file into a java script (after deleting the hyperlink)
    Rinse/lather/repeat
    I have been able to convert about 150 links an hour.
    Better then hand typing, but not like having java access to the links.
    I am looking to improve the solution

  • Can a Hyperlink be created based on the results of a Dynamic Theme Query?

    What I would like to do is create a link from the results of a dynamic theme. The following code displays the names of locations on my map, is there any way that the location name once placed on the map can be a hyperlink that will run a SQL statement that will show the status of that name. My map is based on 3 status levels identified by markers, green marker is up, red is down, amber is degraded. If the Marker is red I want to be able to click the name or the Marker that is on the map to find out what the problem actually is.

  • Hyperlinks in PDF files exported from Numbers 3.1

    The new Numbers is slooowly starting to rock. The new ability to sort and rearrange ranged area is awesome.
    I work with PR and we make reports to our clients. These reports are delivered in PDF files.
    I have a serious problem with Numbers 3.1 and the hyperlinks included in my report - an exported PDF file. The hyperlinks seems to be randomly mixed up. If I press a certain link for a URL, the PDF might redirect me to the correct page or .. might redirect me another page from the report.
    When I work in Numbers 3.1 sheet everything works just fine, all the hyperlinks are opened correctly. The problem only occours when it's exported as PDF.
    My current procedure is to work in Numbers 3.1 and once a report is ready to be handed over to the client, I export it in Numbers 2.3 format and then export it as PDF - where all the hyperlinks work correctly.
    But it would be sooo much more professionel and cool if everything just worked perfectly with Numbers 3.1.
    - Has anyone experienced this as well?
    - Does any one know if it's a bug - or if it me who's doing something silly?

    Hi Jakob,
    BlackPlum suggets: "Thankfully, I noticed that in the Export... dialog box, (from the File Menu), you can select "Current Sheet" in the Layout field (this field defaults to "All Sheets", it's easy to miss). So select Current Sheet, and voila, you now have a pdf with multiple pages (and clickable hyperlinks!)."
    Though my Export To ... PDF does not have such an option.
    Hope a solution will come soon.
    Numbers 3.1 with a very long table (will not fit on one page when printing) and two sheets.
    B2 contains  an active hyperlink.
    B32 contains an active hyperlink.
    Menu > File > Print >
    And on the right,
    Now click on Print...
    Now click on PDF (bottom left)
    Save as PDF

  • Hyperlinks in PDF files

    We are having problems with hyperlinks in PDF files.
    When clicking on a link in a PDF file the following message appears:
    "The file and its viewer application are set to be launched by this PDF file. The file may contain programs, macros, or viruses that could potentially harm your computer. Only open the file if you are sure it is safe. If this file was placed by a trusted person or program, you can click Open to view the file."
    There is a box that says "Do not show this message again", but selecing this box does not stop this message from appearing next time.
    Is there any way to disable this notification??

    BlackPlum suggets: "Thankfully, I noticed that in the Export... dialog box, (from the File Menu), you can select "Current Sheet" in the Layout field (this field defaults to "All Sheets", it's easy to miss). So select Current Sheet, and voila, you now have a pdf with multiple pages (and clickable hyperlinks!)."
    Though my Export To ... PDF does not have such an option.
    Hope a solution will come soon.
    Numbers 3.1 with a very long table (will not fit on one page when printing) and two sheets.
    B2 contains  an active hyperlink.
    B32 contains an active hyperlink.
    Menu > File > Print >
    And on the right,
    Now click on Print...
    Now click on PDF (bottom left)
    Save as PDF

  • Hyperlink/bookmarks pointing at the bottom of the page

    We have a problem with the behaviour of hyperlinks and bookmarks pointing to external documents in Adobe 7.0 and 9.0.  When we click on these bookmarks/hyperlinks, the target document opens at the bottom of the page. If the user's page setting is set to "continuous pages" it appears that these bookmarks/hyperlinks open to the next page but the adobe pagination at the bottom of the screen still shows the correct page. If the user's page setting is set to "single page" the bookmark/hyperlink opens the document to the correct page but at the bottom of the page (when the zoom is set to magnification 66% and above) .  We are not sure why the document is opening at the bottom of the page. The document properties - initial view settings are for Page layout and Magnification: Default.  Does anybody know why this is happening and how can it get resolved?

  • Make table of contents links keep current zoom level, not zoom out to full page

    When Indesign creates tables of contents, they automatically link to the paragraphs the links point to, so that in an interactive PDF, clicks and prods take the user to that page. Great.
    What's not so great is, that the hyperlinks / cross-references / jump-links / whatever that are created behind the scenes within the table of contents appear to:
    ...be automatically set to reset the zoom to full page width
    ...not be editable in any way
    Normal cross references retain the zoom level that the user has chosen, and normal hyperlinks that point to a page in the document have a range of settings about what zoom level change (if any) should be imposed on the user, which can be set to 'inherit zoom'.
    How do I set up a table of contents that doesn't annoy users by resetting their chosen zoom level to an artitrary default when they use the interactive table of contents?
    I'm really hoping I don't have to ditch Indesign's table of contents feature and create every cross reference manually.

    (editted) So it turns out that you can 'expand' a table of contents by copying and pasting it - this fills the hyperlinks panel with links that can be editted (like above) but breaks the auto-update - they're no longer a TOC, they're just a text frame full of links. (I had got different copies mixed up when I thought the frame holding the editable links was also auto-updating)
    The greying out of the links was a red herring, just something to do with the fact they were on a master page.
    It does mean that one possible TOC workflow is:
    Create a TOC on the pasteboard somewhere.
    Before finalising the document, update this TOC and alt-drag the 'live' TOC creating an editable 'dead' copy in an appropriate place in the document
    Edit the link properties of the links in the 'dead' copy (don't forget that you can select multiple hyperlinks at once by holding down shift, and edit things like the Zoom Setting all at once with Hyperlink Options in the Hyperlinks flyout menu. )
    Then, if you make other changes to the document later on, delete the dead copy, update and re-copy the live original, and re-do the changes to the new copy
    This isn't a bad method - it just adds about a minute's work each time you export a PDF (delete, update TOC, alt-drag, shift-select the new batch of .XXXX links at the bottom of the Hyperlinks panel, > Hyperlink Options, Zoom Setting  > Inherit Zoom, done).
    Alternatively, you could manually build a TOC using cross-references if you want links to the exact position on the page, not just the top of the appropriate page.
