Hi Frank.
Thanks for the response.
Agreed, the pertinent question is why can't my colleague edit the JPG exported by Aperture. It's probably also worth pointing out, the same problem occurs with JPGs exported from iPhoto.
The Windows software usually plays nicely with JPGs by all acounts, just not the ones I send - which I do via eMail or my public space on Mobile Me incidently.
So, another key question is: all settings being equal (color profile, quality, etc.) are the JPGs as produced by iPhoto and Aperture indistinguishable from those produced by other apps on other platforms - i.e. does the use of JPG enforce a common standard?
If that is the case, I suspect ours might be a permissions issue.
According to the Microsoft support page on editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery, the inability to edit a picture is commonly caused by unsupported file type, or read-only attribute set on the file.
Unfortunately, he and I are not in the same place, and he's not particularly au-fait with this type of problem solving. Hence, before involving him, I'd like to know:
1. it's possible (i.e. someone else does it), and,
2. what's involved (at my end and/or his).
Thanks again,
PB

  • Export from Aperture to edit in Windows Live Photo Gallery

    Hi.
I'm hoping to work collaboratively with a colleague, in a scenario where I take & edit photos, then pass them over for a possible final touch up before being forwarded to clients.
I use Mac OSX 10.6 and Aperture. He uses Windows Vista and Windows Live Photo Gallery.
The problem we've come up against is this: he is unable to edit the image I've exported from Aperture. I'm exporting as .JPG, and he's able to read them ok - i.e. load it into Windows Live Photo Gallery, but not alter the image.
Does anyone have a similar workflow, exporting from Aperture, then editing in Windows Live Photo Gallery?
    Thanks in advance,
    PB

  • Windows Vista Photo Gallery displays incorrect colors? Photoshop?

    Hi all
I have two PC's running Windows Vista that I work with and both have photoshop CS3 installed, but for what ever reason on one of the PC's the Windows Photo Gallery application displays really desaturated colors when views jpg's and the like (the other PC's displays them fine).
I've googled and haven't yet found out a quality solution, lots of info on simply combining and replacing drivers and the like and nothing really set in stone from Adobe, or Microsoft etc
    Any help would be great

Are both your monitors hardware calibrated? Is Windows Photo Gallery a fully colour managed application?
If the answer to one or both questions is no then you cannot expect similar results.
If the monitors are calibrated and Photoshop has identical colour settings then the images should appear similar on each computer.

  • Import People tags from Windows Live Photo Gallery

I've used Windows Live Photo Gallery for years and have over 15k images that have people tags embedded in the metadata for the files.  I recently downloaded the Photoshop Elements 13 trial and am trying to determine if the organizer that ships with it will meet my needs, however, I am not seeing a way to import People tags from my existing images.  I have imported the images, and most of the photo tags appear to have been imported, but not the people tags.  Is there any built-in way to import people tags from the file-based EXIF metadata, or an external tool or add-in that might be able to bring my WLPG People Tags into PE13?
    Thanks!

Adding a 'Me too' to bump this up. Doing the '30 day evaluation' as I'm looking to change only because MSFT has abandoned the product and I some better editing on things like 'healing/clone brush' for the picture's I scan (using the very old Digital Image Pro).   Google's Picasa has no problem recognizing them including the location of the face selection (though it does like to recognize over top of them sometimes).
I can deal with some of the amazingly frustrating clunkiness of the UI and navigation (they seriously need to hire some new usability designers) but it is a show stopper if the People aspect won't recognize existing tags from WLG and/or Picasa.

  • HP5640 All-in-one does not print photos from Windows Live Photo Gallery

Setup printer using mobile device  Installed print driver using provided CD. Updated driver software. Printer is networked by wireless to computer & smartphone. Was able to print photo from smartphone, was able to print Word document from computer. Was unable to print photo from computer using Windows Live Photo Gallery. Used the HP troubleshooter, following all possible solutions to no avail. Selected the option of HP Photo Paper but it defaulted to the 8x11 paper tray. Can someone please help? Thank you!

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you're experiencing issues when printing from Windows Live Photo Gallery on your Windows 8 computer to your HP ENVY 5640 e-All-in-One Printer, as your prints continue to default to the letter size Paper Tray. I would like to assist you today with resolving this printing issue. Can I please have you follow the steps below to properly configure your print settings under the Print dialogue window in Windows Live Photo Gallery.  1. Load your Photo Paper in the Photo Tray on your printer  2. Open an image you would like to print under Windows Live Photo Gallery 3. Click on File and select Print   4. Under the Print dialogue window please ensure that your printer, Paper Size, Quality, and Paper Type are all set properly for your specific print job    5. Next, click on the Options button on the bottom right hand corner. Under the Print Settings dialogue box click Printer Properties.    6. Next, change the Paper Source to Photo Tray. If it currently is set to 'Main Tray' please click the Main Tray option and it will drop down to allow you to select Photo Tray. Click OK once the Tray change has been made.    NOTE: If the Paper Size shows an exclamation mark, it means that your Photo Tray does not support the Paper Size selected. Click the dropdown next to Paper Size and choose a size that does not show an exclamation mark.     7. Under the main Print dialogue window click Print on the bottom right   Your document should print as per normal now from the proper Paper Tray.   Please let me know if the steps provided resolve your Paper Tray photo printing issue. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Importing Photos From Windows Live Photo Gallery To iPhoto '11

    ##### Note:  I've seen a lot of discussion on this topic but nothing recent, so here it goes #####
    Hi -
I am about to receive my new iMac (congratulations to me!) and will soon commense transferring >5,000 photos from my PC.  I would like these to transfer into iPhoto.
I've used Windows Live Photo Gallery (WLPG) to tag these photos by various means (location, person, event, etc). I've read that WLPG stores this metadata with the .jpg file in XMP, or Extensible Metadata Platform. The result is that the tagging data is with the photo file. The tags are in a few categories:
    People
    Events
    Places
Each of these categories will have a number of tags (example:  Events include:  "Joe's 5th birthday", "Christmas '12", etc)
I understand that iPhoto supports data if it embedded in the ITPC.  Reading a bit about iPhoto, there look to be a number of homes for this data (Events, Keywords, etc).
Ideally, I would love to have these photos transferred into iPhoto with consistent tagging.  Does anyone know how I can maintain this data into iPhoto? Can anyone recommend a tool for the conversion?
    Thanks!

My Windows pc crashed and I'm thinking about replacing with the Mac Mini.  But like you, I have thousands of tagged photos in Windows Live Gallery.  Losing the tags is a non-starter.  I really don't care too much about "where" the photo was taken, but I do care about "who" is in the photo and what "event" was occurring when the photo was taken.  For example, one photo could be tagged with my daughter's name, my son's name, my wife's name, event of Disneyworld, and the date taken should be just embedded in the photo itself.  So four tags for the one photo plus the embedded date taken.
If I migrate to iPhoto on the Mac, will I be able to bring all of those individual tags over easily?  What was your final experience now that you've been messing with it for a year?  And if you are happy, are you able to sort all you photos by just clicking a person's name and a date range and having iPhoto return all photos with that one person within those dates?
Any insight would be helpful.  Thanks.

    Hi O_H_I_O,
Have you got an error code ?
Considering it is a brand new machine ,please update the machines .To get a better performance of the machines ,we should always keep it up to date .
There is a possibility that the DVD/CD-ROm drives driver is old or has corrupted .Please open the device manager , update or reinstall the driver to have a check.
Apart from this ,we can run the built-in tool to a diagnostic :
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Troubleshooting\All Categories\Hardware and Devices
We also can run the following fixit tool to have a check.
Fix problems with CD or DVD drives that can’t read or write media

You can launch it manually. The executable for the Scanner and Camera Wizard is:

  • Showing Geotags on iPhone from windows live photo gallery

I use Windows live photo gallery to geotag my photos (along with other details such as face and descriptive tags), however when i try and veiw them on my iphone they dont appear on the map. is there anyway to get them to come up? if not any suggests on apps i can use that will view up and also that you only need to add the address to geotag the photo

I ran a test with iPhoto's rating system and it does'nt seem to export it with the other metadata so it can be read by other apps that have rating systems nor does it read ratings added by another DAM (digital asset management) app, Media Pro 1.   So I doubt if it can read ratings from Live Photo Gallery.
I would try adding keywords to those photos to represent the rating, i.e. Five Start for five stars, write them to the files on the PC and see if  iPhoto will be able to import the keyword. If it can then a smart album can be created for all photos with that keyword and you can add the rating to all of them at one time. Then do what you want with the keyword.

I cannot print from Windows Live Photo Gallery.   The printer is connected and has a signal.

This printer is an HP Photosmart Touchscreen.  I have since resolved the problem by uninstalling, and reinstalling the printer.  Not sure what the problem was, but it is now working.  Thank you for your help.

    Hi Kossa,
You can also check if the issue occurs in
Clean Boot. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can continue to narrow down which entry is causing the issue.
    Besides, uninstall it and re-download
a fresh copy of FireFox to check the result. If the issue still exists, create a new user account to see if it occurs.
If the issue persists, you can contact Mozilla Support directly and use Internet Explorer (IE) during the time.

  • Migrating from Windows Live Photo Gallery to iPhoto

I'm interested in moving to a Mac, and bringing with me my photo collection, which has been organised (keyworded) using Windows Live Photo Gallery.
Has anybody had any experience with this?
All the keywords assigned using WLPG are stored in the photos as EXIF metadata, and I'm interested in preserving this, to save re-keywording the photos...
    Thanks
    David

    David
If the keywords are written to the correct fields on the Metadata then they will come with the photos to the Mac.
Easiest way to check, pop some on a USB Flash Drive and bring them to a Mac using friend's house or even a local Apple store.

  • HT201302 Is it better to save photos using windows photo gallery or windows live photo gallery?

Is it better to save photos from iphone 4s to laptop ..windows 7... using windows photo gallery or windows live photo gallery? ive used both and it appears to be adding all photos each time i do it despite which one i use.  My laptop is filling up with the same photos 2,3,4,5 times.... Depending what was on my phone at the time.... the older photos have been repeated more often. I thought when importing to laptop only new photos would be added... how do I change this?
Also now I have so many duplicates i dont know which ones to delete as some have been saved as jpg... , imgJPG...., vcm_s_kf.... and vcm_s_kf_repr.... Why? and which ones do I delete?
I have deleted some photos and pictures which look like computers, printers , docket printers  etc  Since then my Media Gallery does not work. Have I accidently deleted a driver or something? or is Media Gallery just overloaded?

As long as you've backed up your photos, what you use is really a matter of personal preference. To avoid duplicates, pick one program. Getting rid of duplicates that you already have is probably going to mean going through the photos one by one.
For problems with Windows Software, you're probably better off posting on a Windows forum.
    Best of luck.
