Zooming in on a picture while maintaining frame size

Hi all,
I am hoping someone would be able to tell be how I could zoom in on a photo without it expanding to cover the other footage in a shot.
To better vizualize... imagine you have footage of an interview... the person speaking is on the left. I would like to place a picture on the right side of the screen and zoom in on the picture without also increasing the overall amount of space that picture takes up on the screen. I assume there must be some type of framing tool.
I am running Premiere Pro CS4 - full production suite. I also have CS4 Design Suite if that has the right tool.
Thanks for helping out a noobie!
Dan

Perhaps I need to be more clear, I want to do a gradual zoom. Not simply show the whole picture, then show a close up.
I mean, sure I could go into each frame and recrop the picture, but that would be ridiculous.
There must be an automated way of doing it. A way to set boundries for a picture, so that no matter how far you zoom in, the overall dimensions of the photo, visible over footage, does not change.

  • Maintaining frame size when zooming into stills

I am having trouble maintaining the my frame ratio (video is 16:9) when I am importing stills and adding a zoom motion to them. The stills have been sized properly to the 16:9 ratio when they come in, but once I go the motion controls and set the keyframes for the motion, the zooming works but the whole images gets bigger as it is zooming. I want boundary to stay the same but to zoom in on the image. Please help.

I am new to this, so my explanations may be confusing. Let me try to explain my issue again. When I produce my final product I would like to it to be at a 16:9 ratio. From your last response it sounds like I should be able to achieve that through exporting in quicktime. All my video footage is already at 16:9. For the stills I am resizing them in Photoshop (taking into account the square to non-square pixel conversion) and bringing them into Final Cut Express. When I add zoom motion to those stills the image then fills the 4:3 view in the canvas. My video already looks letterboxed in the canvas, and I would like the stills to look the same.
Can this be solved simply through the exporting process or do I need to modify something in FCE? Whatever the solution, my goal is to maintain the highest resolution possible. Thanks.

  • Cropping while maintaining pixel size

Just got LR5 - wish it was as intuitive as PSE.  A few initial questions:
    1) When I crop in LR, I see no way to maintain the original pixel size as is easily done in PSE.  Is it not possible?
    2) When I select "Help" or press F1 in LR, I get LR Help, however the Search feature doesn't list LR as one of the Product selections in the dropdown box.  I did register LR.
    3) When you make an adjustment in LR, isn't there a way to Undo it?  I thought you might be able to delete it from the history.
    4) What is the best free source for learning LR, preferably video.  I did see the ones by J. Kost on the Adobe TV website, but they weren't very detailed/complete.
    Thanks.

Thanks dj.  A couple of follow-ups on your responses then I'll mark it as correct:
    1) So when I crop in PSE with the pixel size set at the size of the original, that is not really buying anything?  I don't think it does a resample, just decreases the Document Size by a corresponding amount.  There is no advantage as far as photo quality or anything else to keeping the pixel dimensions at the larger size (of the original)?
    3) When you "undo" by double-clicking on the name of the slider, is this a true undo (i.e. the history item is deleted) or does it just create another history item that offsets the original adjustment?
And a couple of other items on recommended ways to do things:
    - Would you recommend when making adjustments to show both the before and after in the panel to see how it is changed?
    - Do you personally use shortcuts all the time?  From watching videos from J. Kost and some other guy whose name I don't recall, they both seem obsessed, to the point that it is annoying, with using shortcut keys.  There are so many of them that I don't see how it is a shortcut if you have to look them up.
    Thanks dj.

  • Importing pictures from camera roll while maintaining folders

Hello, I am wondering if there is a way to import pictures from the I have on my iPhone (that are in folders) and put them on my pc while keeing them in those folders?
    Example:
After having some 2000+ pictures on my iphone, when IOS 5 came out i started putting them in folders...
I have Folder 1, Folder 2, and Folder 3, etc on my iPhone.
Is there a way that I can import those folders with their contents onto my pc without importing all the pictures seperately, sorting them, and remaking all the folders?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You can use the app PhotoSync to wirelessly transfer the pictures to your computer while maintaining your folder structure.

  • Cropping in PS while Maintaining Aspect Ratio and DPI

I shoot the Nikon D3, RAW (.NEF) and convert through ACR. Through ACR, the DPI is set to 300 DPI; the DPI caries over to Photoshop.
I crop in Photoshop using the crop tool (not marquee). To maintain 2:3 or 3:2 aspect ratios, the crop tool requires the width and height in inches or pixels. If specifying resolution, the document size will crop to that DPI, if not; the DPI is derived from pixel dimensions.
In my case, I’ve been cropping at 2in by 3in (or reverse for orientation). The resulting “real” image pixel dimensions are still very high (correct to crop size) but the document size reported in PS is 2in by 3in with a wildly high DPI. By changing the resolution back to 300 DPI through Photoshop, the document size returns to normal. Therefore the picture has not lost anything; it appears to only be a function of the Meta data. The pixel dimensions remain constant while the document size and DPI change.
It apears that you canot specify an aspect ratio via the crop tool without defining it in inches or cm. You can do it with the marquee tool but the marquee tool sucks for cropping. You can however crop in ACR with the crop tool by merely specifying the aspect ratio (not in inches or cm). In summary, the PS crop tool is based in inches or cm while the ACR crop tool is simply aspect ratio.
What I can do to crop in PS while maintaining aspect ratio and defined DPI. Is there a work-around, magic trick, or something else I can do to fool the PS crop tool into an aspect ratio not based in inches or cm?

    Just to summarize:
Setting a dimensioned ratio (e.g., 2 in by 3 in for Width and Height) in the Crop tool without filling in a Resolution value yields a crop with the desired aspect ratio, and without any resampling.
There is no way to specify a ratio with the crop tool, specifically, as the OP has requested, though in a future version perhaps specifying simple numbers there without any units might be a way Adobe could facilitate this.  It would be a nice addition and with little downside.
I guess what I don't understand, though, is why the OP cares about the "high" resulting dpi value?  It's just a number.
Expanding on this, the Resolution is nothing but a metadata value that can be changed at will (e.g., through Image - Image Size... - uncheck Resample) at any time in the future.  There is ALWAYS a Resolution value associated with the image, both before and after the crop (though the crop tool may end up changing it; so what?).  In short, the Resolution is just an arbitrary figure until such time as the user wants to use the image for a purpose (e.g. printing).
Always think in terms of pixel dimensions (number of pixels horizontally and vertically) while editing, then think about dpi right before publishing.  It's hard to go wrong this way.

  • How do I make image backgrounds black and white while maintaining color in the foreground objects?

I have a close up close-up image of an orchid with blurred background.  I am trying to make the background black and white while maintaining the foreground color on the petals, buds and stems.  Any ideas?

Use the Blank & White Brick and either brush the effect onto the background or brush is away from the foreground.  "Detect Edges" will help control the edge of the mask.
You might be interested in knowing that you can brush on/away masks of different strengths, and thus produce effects in between 0% and 100%.
Search the forum -- there are several good posts detailing how to create this effect.

  • How to change the picture frame size in Lightroom 5 Book

I would like to control the actual picture frame size when making a Book in Lightroom 5. Or else know the sizes of the different picture frames provided by choosing the different page layouts. That way I can either change the picture frame dimensions to accomodate each photo or change the image size to fit in the offered picture frame. I find that using the software as is winds up cropping the images in unwanted ways. Modifying the picture frame would be my preferred alternative. Appreciate any ideas

    Hi again Tony,
I have been using Adobe Photoshop 7, Photoshop Elements, Perfect Photo Suite, Photo Studio, etc., changing Image size, placing a picture on a page and then, do a simple last minute size adjustment by using the arrows to stretch or shrink it in place. Things would be a lot simpler if I could do the same thing with the cells in Lightroom 5. Cell pad adjustments do not fill the bill.
I think we’ve pretty much concluded this exchange. Thanks again for your effort.

  • Can i perform SDK 7 Compilation while maintaining SDK6 look and feel for my App

In our organization we test the App using visual specs and our existing visual specs are aligned with SDK 6 look and feel. When i compile my app with SDK 7 the visual display of the App changes completely and is no longer in sync with the visual specs used for testing. As SDK 7 compilation is a mandate for post Feb 1 submission, is it possible to compile the code with SDK 7 while maintaining SDK 6 visual look and feel?

What i am actually trying to do is to maintain the existing SDK6 UI Look and Feel on iOS7. Apple has issued a mandate to have all Apps compiled with SDK7 for App Store submission post Feb1, 2014. If i compile with SDK7, even if i set the deployment target as iOS6, when my app runs on iOS7 it will have the new Apple's iOS7 look and feel. How can i accomplish this?

  • Use of Delimit button while Maintaining a View

    Hi Experts,
I have created a table with ENDDA as key field.
I have created the corresponding maintenance view for table and generated it .
Now while maintaining the entries in the view, I see a button 'DELIMIT' in menu bar.
I have created two entries with overlapping endda and begda.
When i select an entry and click on the DELIMIT button, its proposing a start date which is sy-datum( Today's date )...
I dont understand the exact functionality of this button.
Can some one please explain me DELIMIT button functionality?

    >But any better solution to this.. Any SAP standard practice for this, as this is a very common scenario?
That is why we have plugs. You can not rely on the browser navigation buttons.  If so, what would happen when you Web Dynpro Component is runnning within the Portal or the NetWeaver Business Client.  That is why your navigation should be self contained with the component.

  • Creating an 11x17 booklet while maintaining file quality/size

I regularly use Pages for newsletter production - my newsletters must be in 11x17 format when submitted to a printer for production. I do not have InDesign or Quark - I'm trying to avoid the expense, quite honestly.
So: when I have completed a Pages document, I must convert to 11x17. I currently use Cocoa Booklet to do this. However, much to my dismay, I've found that the size/quality of my document takes a nose dive when I convert to 11x17 format with Cocoa Booklet!
I want to give my file to the printer in the highest possible resolution. One of the newsletters I do frequently contains artwork, and the creator deserves decent quality images in the final printed product.
So my question is: is there any way to create an 11x17 document from a Pages document while maintaining the original document quality?
    Thank you!

See the other post for the problem of assembling an imposed set of pages. Usually though your commercial printer will handle this. If they can't I really wonder whether they should be handling the job.
The core problem of resolution and quality suitable for commercial printing is however a problem with the colorsync quartz filters used by OSX to produce PDF-X files. Apple has set these up wrong and made them well nigh impossible to correct.
If anyone out there can give detailed step by step instructions how to alter the filters in Colorsync Utility and make them appear correctly and consistently in the printer options, I and many others will be eternally grateful.
As it stands the output reduces many graphics, effects and even some text to an unacceptable 72dpi pixellation.
The inking is wildly over what commercial printing requires. Normally this should never total more than 320% to prevent smearing, pooling and overwetting and bubbling the paper.
The filters do not provide the crop marks, bleeds or printer's slugs needed for production.
The filters do not allow targeting of the individual printer's equipment and settings.
There is no transparency or documentation of the process nor its effects which makes it difficult to control or know if it is correct (as it stands it is not).
Danger, Danger Will Robinson! Do not use!
Not much else can be said until Apple corrects this and stops misleading its users into thinking they (Apple) are actually providing a solution. In reality they have created a massive problem.
I pray that someone has finally been listening and this gets fixed in Snow Leopard.
    Peter
