Zooming in on photos?

I use an Eye-Fi Pro X2 card in my 1Ds Mark II and have it set up to send 4 mp jpegs to my iPhone so I can see them more clearly. Is there any way to zoom in more on the iphone screen? I want to use it to check focus more accurately but I can't seem to get the iPhone to let me pinch in more than just a little bit.

Are there any plug-ins available to accomplish what I want?
They have yet to find a way to use "plug-in's" with iMovie '08 which is why so many people are are upset about not having access to various "effects." What is preventing you from changing the project aspect ratio to match your photos (which are usually 4:3 or 3:2)? Between the built-in "fit" and "crop" modes and zoom feature, I don't understand your problem here.

When I zoom in on photo using iPhoto, how can I save the zoomed in photo please?  I would like a screen shot of my zoomed in photo - is this possible?.  Cropping doesn't give the same effect as zooming in and magnifying the photo.  Any help would be appreciated thank you.  I have an iMac

To take a screenshot of the zoomed photo, press either the key combination
⇧⌘3   for a screenshot of the full screen, or
⇧⌘4   to bring up a selection rectangle: select the section of the screen, that you want to save.
The screenshots will be sent to your desktop; drag them from there to the iPhoto icon in the Dock to import them.

  • Zooming limit for photo

    Hi
Can anybody suggest, whether there is any way you can identify the optimum zooming level for photos while using kepburn effect, it does the zoom irrespective of the photo size be it a small image or high res image. Because of this when you see the final movie some photos are pixelated and some are really good.
Or the only way is eye judgement, if it looks grainy then reduce the zoom level? I am expecting something like after certain zoom level it wont let you zoom further..!!!???
    thanks in advance

Also please suggest how do I know that I am making 1x
zoom and 4.4x zoom any tips appreciated.
We set the zoom with the zoom slider in the Photo Settings window. It allows us use a zoom from 1.00 to 5.00. The slider zooms in on the original image.
More clarification from Karl Petersen, the last line
in your reply is still a bit confusing for me as I am
amateur here. In the last line you say 'we want to
aoid enlargina the chunk we grab with the Ken Burns
zoom' can you please elaborate on this for me.
I was afraid someone would ask.
When we use the zoom slider we essentially crop the image — grab just a portion of it to display in the clip. The image that's grabbed is always 640x480, no matter what zoom we use and no matter the size of the source image. Hold that thought.
iMovie quality is sacrificed whenever iMovie must enlarge or shrink the content to make the 640x480 clip. We want to avoid that. A little enlarging or shrinking is okay, but not a lot. Creating a 640x480 clip from a 4000x3000 image shrinks it a lot, which isn't good.
Instead of using iMovie's zoom slider to crop, it's actually better to use iPhoto's crop tool — set to a 4:3 aspect ratio for a DV project, 16:9 for wide projects — to crop the image to the content we want, then export that cropped image from iPhoto to a 640x480 image (for DV) that we import to iMovie. That delivers the best quality.
If we do not resize the image before importing it to iMovie, the size of the source image — its height and width, in pixels — suggest the ideal cropping zoom for that image. An image that's three times wider than 640, for example, suggests we use a 3x zoom to avoid sacrificing quality. In fact, a 3x zoom is ideal, for then iMovie doesn't have to resize the grabbed portion used to make the clip.
If, on the other hand, we use a 2x zoom on that same image, iMovie must shrink the grabbed portion to make it fit 640x480. If we use a 4x zoom, iMovie must resize the grabbed portion larger, so it fills 640x480. Both sacrifice quality.
So whenever a source image is larger than 640x480 we should 1) crop it in iPhoto — cropping is optional — then export it from iPhoto to an image that's 640x480; or 2) crop the image with the iMovie zoom slider set to avoid expanding or shrinking the cropped portion of the image. The ideal zoom is (the width of the image) divided by 640. iMovie lets us use a different zoom, of course, but it sacrifices quality.

  • Fill screen with zoom for small photo sizes (as in slideshow)?

Front facing iPhone 4S camera sized photos are too small in iPhoto. Is it possible to set a default to fill screen with zoom for all photo sizes (as in slideshow)? Seems like the old iPhoto worked like this.

That's what I was afraid of!  I wish it would still scale photos to fill the window also if they're smaller  than the window size (not just 100%), like it used to in older versions of iPhoto. Especially irritating, since the problem photos are from an Apple product, the front facing camera of the iPhone4s.  I already added my complaint to "feedback".
    Thanks anyway.

  • Please tell me you can use pan/zoom tool for photo slideshow with photos not cropped to screen?

I'm new to Mac and Premiere Elements (former PC/Sony Vegas Movie user), and am trying to do a Ken Burns type photo slideshow wherein my photos are left in their normal cropped state.  Right now it seems all photos get cropped to fill the screen size (i.e. 16:9).  I saw where you could uncheck the scale photo size to media (or something to that effect) under the general setting in preferences, but using the pan/zool tool still shows photos cropped to fill screen.  I realize conflicting aspect ratio will result in black bars top/bottom or left/right of frame, and that's ok/what I want.  I'm hoping this is doable?  Thanks, Jim

The primary question that I have is what is the end product...DVD-VIDEO Standard on DVD disc, DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc or other?
Let us assume for now DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc. The next question that falls into line is the one relating to what you describe as an assortment of photos going into this project...what are the pixel dimensions (what range of...) and aspect ratio. For aspect ratio, are we talking 4:3 or 16:9. How many of these photos are landscape oriented or how many portrait oriented.
In generalities at this point, I would ask you to look at:
    a. bringing your photos appropriately sized into a Premiere Elements project with an appropriate project preset.
    b. leaving Edit Menu/Preferences/General with its Default Scale to Frame Size with a check mark.
    c. in the workspace, scaling the photos to just fill the space in the Edit Mode Monitor
    d. then one by one pan and zoom a photo with the Pan and Zoom Tool.
If you use this Tool, you should get good results. One consideration is that the process results in the Timeline photo having a much larger duration AFTER than BEFORE. If you see any pros in using this tool for your purposes, then you might want to explore the technique that I described for applying a pan and zoom effect from this Tool to more than one photo at a time.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/05/pe11-pan-zoom-tool-more-than-one-photo.html
You also might want to explore fxEffects/Presets for horizontal and vertical pans or zoom. The catch in the presets is that you can apply a pan OR zoom, not a pan AND zoom to each photo.
Keyframing of Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan) should be explored under Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded/Scale and Position properties.
With more details from you, we could go step by step in any of the above.
We will be watching for your progress.
    Thanks.

  • CS4 transitions - how to apply fade/zoom for memorial photo montage - please help

I'm considering doing a photo-only montage for a relative's memorial if I can figure out how to get the look I'm wanting.  I want to apply a slow cross zoom AND a fade both, but it looks like I can only do one at a time.  How do I apply both of these transitions at once?  Or is there another way I can get the look I'm wanting?  Any tips or links you may have that would help point me in the direction I'm wanting to go would be greatly, greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Thank you I think you've pointed me in the right direction.  Please forgive me for my ignorance as I have just begun using this program.  I don't have all the official terms down yet, such as "key frame", so I'll try to explain the best I can what I've done so far.  On the timeline, I've got the yellow line on the image and I can click on a dot and drag one end of the line down so that it's diagonal, but it won't stretch across the following image.  Is there any way to have the line stretch across all images and add those little dots (are those key frames?) wherever I please?  I apologize if this made no sense whatsoever.  I just want to fade out one picture and then fade in the following picture using this opacity effect you mentioned.  Thank you very much for your time.

  • Interlacing issue when zooming in on photo in FCP

Can anyone tell me why this image (picture 1) looks interlaced in FCP's Canvas window and on my NTSC broadcast monitor when in fact it isn't?
I scanned this image at 600dpi planning to zoom in on the photo in FCP, so I know it's not a low resolution issue.
In FCP, when I zoom in on the image it looks totally interlaced:
Please see picture 1 (interlacing issue) here in my web gallery and compare with Picture 2.
    http://gallery.me.com/nicholasnatteau#100222
I have no idea what's causing this. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,

PS: I'm working in an NTSC DV sequence.

    Hi David,
Thank you very much for your help. Yes, I did render the timeline. Nothing in the sequence was left unrendered. Is the problem that my resolution is too high? Should I diminish the size of the still by 50%?
Picture 1 was scanned using "descreen" filter and picture 2 using Auto Tone only. I used a Canoscan Cannon 8800F scanner. That's as much as I know. I wonder if I did something wrong scanning the image or is there something I should have done in Photoshop prior to bring the still into FCP?
Did you notice the horizontal line issue in Picture 1? I'm not sure how to describe it, but Picture 1 looks to me like there some interlacing issue going on.

  • Using Mask To 'Zoom' In On Photo?!

    Hi all,
I'm struggling a bit to produce a smooth outcome for an effect I am trying to acheive.  I am currently working on an awards show video presentation featuring a variety of photos which I would like to animate.  My main strife comes when I mask a photo with the intention of the size of the mask remaining the same while the image within the mask is scaled up or down and perhaps moves using the Anchor Point to shift the focus of the image.  Another way to describe this would be that I would like to zoom in/out on an image that is contrained by a frame which does not change size or position.
One method I have attempted is to draw a rectangular mask around the image at the point when it first enters the composition.  This first mask is the exact size of the 'frame' I want to perserve.  I then duplicate the image layer/mask, move forward in time on the original image layer and animate the scale and perhaps anchor point.  Then using the duplicated image as a guide, I animate the original mask path to match the duplicated size, which is done by sight.  I leave the key frames linear, but still can';t get it right as the mask still appears to grow and then reduce again. Take a look at this example below.
I have attempted to copy the exact values of hte original 'frame' mask size, but those values scale with the layer itself and the frame does not retain it's original size.
I have feeling I am missing a trick in terms of perhaps pre-comping this or parenting, etc.  Can anybody point me to a tutorial or tip that can help me smooth this out?
Please let me know if you require any other informaiton, etc.  I am running CS5 on a Windows 7 PC.
    Thank you,
    Lindsay

You can make a solid, mask it to the size you want, and use it as a track matte for the picture below it.  You can then scale the picture as you wish, and the size remains the same.

  • Stop the zooming?  Imported photos in iMovie.

Up until recently I haven't dealt with still images in iMovie, but in this case I am opening the movie with a photo that I brought into Photoshop and retouched to look painted. I want to transition from the "painted" image to the actual image as an opening sequence. Only problem is that imported photos do a 5 second "zooming effect" and I don't want this. I want the stills to remain static on screen. I've looked through iMovie and I can't find a control for this anywhere. How can I keep the images static and not "zoom?"

Sue is right. Here's the step by step:
Select the photo you want to remove the "Ken Burns" zooming effect from. There should be a crop tool shaped a bit like a square towards the upper left corner of your selected picture, click on that. You'll see your picture enlarged on the right with a red and green square in it. At the top of the picture, select "Fit" instead of "Ken Burns" and this will turn off the zooming. Then click the "Done" button in the top right corner.

  • HT204379 Why does my screen saver "zoom" in on photos from my iPhoto?  Can I stop it from doing this?

I've recently moved up to Mtn Lion on a new MacBook Pro.
I finally figure out how to connect my iPhoto images with my screen saver (the way I alswyas did on previous Macs).
But the weird thing is that the Screen Saver zooms in on the photos!  Sometime choosing a very uninteresting part of the photo to suddenly enlarge on my screen!
What gives with that?  Can I stop it from doing this?  It's like cropping my originals - many of which I have already cropped ...
Appreciate any help that you can give on this.

The only fix here is to find a third-party screen saver that supports the behavior you want. Apple has adjusted its screen saver options over the years, and the latest ones are what you see in the system preferences.
The only way to change these behaviors is to hack the screen savers. The effects descriptions and some of the behaviors have settings in this folder:
    /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Slideshows.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Cont ent
There may be a way to modify one of those settings to prevent the zooming for the given set of screen savers (or at least one of them), but I would not recommend modifying these files arbitrarily as you might break something (or at least make sure you have a full and restorable backup you can access before doing so). There are a couple of known modifications to them that can adjust some behaviors, but image zooming isnt one I know of.

  • Zoom for memorial photo montage

Thank you in advance for your help. Can someone send me some easy steps on how do I zoom in and out on photos in Premiere CS4?
example, the photo is 5 seconds long, I want to zoom in or out on him not just use the zoom from photo to photo.
I dear freinds 25 year old son passed away and I am under the gun to help them get this done for a funeral.
I have used the old premier but cant seem to find it here.
    Thanks, Eric

Jim might know of some tutorial to look at...but just to show you quickly what it will look like...
    1) use a photo that is no bigger than 4000 px  X  4000 px.....
    2) put on timeline
    3) use CTI to determine start point for zoom and click "scale" under effect panel (sets keyframe)  under motion /scale...
    4) adjust scale from 100% to what you want...
    5) move CTI to next point on timeline where effect will end
    6) click scale again (sets keyframe)
    7) adjust scale
    done
image shows timeline and keyframes in effect panel where scale was adjusted
This link has the movie export made from this sample...called " zoom sample mov " ....for you to SEE what it does

  • Eliminate zoom for still photos

I am making a movie with stills and music.  Each photo zooms in.  Can I stop the zoom?

    Hi
YES - Ken-Burns Effect can be most annoying. I also wished that I was asked to turn it on when needed - Not being forced to turn it off - ALWAYS - as I never use it. (A 100% irritation factor)
    • Select all photo clips in Project.
    • Click on the small double L-shaped black symbol in one of them
then select Adjust (Anpassa) - followed by Done (Klar)
Usually this takes effect on all selected Photos.

  • Why can't I zoom videos in Photo?

Since I upgraded my iPad mini to iOS 7 I can no longer zoom in my videos in photo.  Why?  And can it be helped?

Unfortunately I cannot see the video images myself, but I still find it hard to believe that you could see the person's facial expression, unless you actually shot that video really close up.
I wonder whether you weren't looking at a photograph, which you then zoomed in to.
Anyway, no one from Apple is reading your post here.

i believe it zooms, even if the parallax feature is turned off (which can be toggled by going to settings -> general -> accessibility -> reduce motion

Only the 100% view is valid.
At lower magnification you are discarding pixels; at higher magnification you are inventing, making up pixels that aren't there.
A lot more information about your hardware and software is needed.
