ZPM bundle scheduling

Hi,
I'm trying ZCM10.3a, I try to deploy a patch to a workstation that need it scheduled on device refresh . After the deployment wizard I see that a new bundle "ZPM Assigment on Date/time" has been created but in his relationship there is nothing. I try to refresh agent a lot but nothing was installed
Somebody have encountered same issue?
Thanks

I believe it has to do with the fact that you cannot control the schedule of the DAU bundle that runs.
So even though "next device refresh" it doesn't really mean that you can right-click the ZAA icon and do a refresh.
I think you have to wait for the next day (24 hours) for the DAU bundle to run again.

  • ZPM Bundle deployement Failed...Or did it?

I have been creating MS Patch Bundles for Windows 7 in Monthly groups. So All of January's patches for Windows 7 only are labeled "Windows 7 Update - Jan 2013". For the most part this works well. Yet I am noticing that if I just click on the bundle to deploy it I might get a bundle failed error. I tend to do a lot of my work in the CLI and noticed that when I open the "Show Progress" window and ran the bundle deployment zac bln "Windows 7 Update - Jan 2013" and watched the progress bar it failed right after the deployment downloaded. Yet the CLI continued to show each patch inside the bundle was deploying.
Am I looking at this correctly in that the reason for the Bundle fail was that one of the Patch's couldn't or shouldn't be deployed so the bundle failed due to that issue yet the remaining patches continued to deploy out?
The other question I have is whether the method I am employing is a sound method? I developed this after posting in the forums a question on how to best deploy patches and someone replied with this method. This seems sound to me but obviously the pitfall is a bundle failure reported due to a patch failure.
    Thanks

I don't know if I need to change the way I deploy patches but haven't really run into another way to do this without creating bundles for each individual patch and running them that way. Seems like even more work considering the number of patches that are released each month.
I have ran into an issue with the ZPM on monthly patches as described. I ran the Update Cache against January's batch of patches. I then ran the bundle against 4 different systems. 3 of the 4 fails with a Cache failure just downloading content. The 4th machine seemed to install correctly. I deleted the bundle and recreated it fresh to see if it would resolve the 3 other system failures. The second creation of the patch bundle seemed to resolve the issue. No re-caching of content was done. Just a bundle creation.
Now I am having the same issue with February 2013. None of the workstations have accepted the bundle. I get a Cache failure about 7% into the download of the content. It never even starts the install of the patches. I just requested the Cached content run the Update Cache for those months patches from MS. Will try to recreate the bundle Monday to see if a couple of days worth of cooking might help.
I have tried to find documentation on how best to manage patch deployment using ZPM both on a general search and through Novell documentation. No luck with that. I don't know if this is covered in a class or left to each group to figure out what works best for them. For me, I run a school system one-to-one and have limited time to push a patch out. As a matter of fact if I don't have the laptop in had chances are it isn't updated. I had hoped ZPM would help keep that manageable but ZCM in general has been frustrating at times. ZPM Works in some cases and in others fails hard. And that can happen on the same machine or patch deployment. Just depends on the day.

There is a known bug (still ongoing) , but I don't think you're getting that error. If you were, then it would affect every machine that needed that patch, and you'd get a quite specific error.
Support | Failed to process action: information for id has not been cached
IF that's the error you're getting, then you have to run the SQL command to find out which bundles are screwed up, and go into the ZCC -> Patch Management -> delete the patches, and possibly change your schedule for downloading so that the cleanup happens BEFORE the next download run (details are in the TID) and then it should cache them properly again.
Unfortunately the problem can re-occur randomly with different patches, so it's always fun (not).

  • Bundle Schedules not Initiating Action

Sometime between August and September my bundles quit paying attention to execution schedules. What I mean by this is that if I set a bundle to launch "now" or at 1:00 PM, the ZCC server shows that the event is supposed to take place but I am not seeing any activity on the workstation at launch time until I manually refresh the client or its natural refresh takes place after the scheduled launch time.
Scheduled bundles are executing WOL on schedule. I currently have a couple of bundles and patch updates that I have to manually initiate the refresh to cause them to launch (using the "now" option) or they just are not indicating that they are launching at their scheduled times. In some instances I am finding that a few of my systems are receiving the bundle payload but it is not being reflected in the Bundle's Status screen. (These were copy bundles that I can see the files were successfully copied).
Running ZCC 11.2.3a on Windows 7 Enterprise x64. I wouldn't be surprised if a previous month's Windows patch mucked something up considering the recent patch recalls, but was hoping that someone might have an idea if this is a wide spread issue or if I'm just the lucky one. Thanks!

I can confirm that some of the bundles Ive made where the deployment action included an availability schedule are no longer working in 11.2.3.24691 Monthly Update 1..
Glad to know Im not the only one..

  • Scheduled multi-patch Bundle - will it work?

A while back we started trying out ZPM for all our patching, soon found that using it for Microsoft patches was a) a nightmare to manage and b) slowed our ZCM database down to a crawl for 8 hours a day while it did something odd with the ZPM log tables. Anyhow I've since deleted all Microsoft patches from Zen and gone over to WSUS for the Microsoft stuff, works a treat so I'm leaving that where it lies.
However we really need to push out some important Flash and Java updates (also found Google Chrome in the list so that would be nice too) and here's how I want to do it...
    1) set the updates to install on a timed schedule and only install during this window
    2) set a requirement on the patch Bundle to only run if HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon is set to 0 (i.e. the machine isn't in the middle of imaging as ZPM made a mess of things when it cuts in too early)
    3) run Flash, Java and Google Chrome patches one by one i.e. the first one completes, next one starts and so on
    4) run this Bundle daily so if machines miss it one time they grab it the next, although if the Bundle has already run successfully it doesn't reinstall every time (as that would just be silly)
    5) run the updates successfully whether the user has admin rights or not (UAC may be on as ZCM 11.2.3a seems to have problems with Computer GPOs)
I tried doing multiple scheduled Bundles for each product individually which seemed to work, bit of a pain to manage though so I then tried a multiple Bundle. Thus far I've tried it two ways without success:
    1) using the Deploy Remediation wizard and setting schedule in there (doesn't seem to run on schedule despite the Agent on a client knowing the Bundle is there and on schedule)
    2) use Deploy Remediation to create the individual ZPM Bundles then make a separate Bundle that calls the ZPM ones. Worked on one machine where nothing had previously run but failed on another where the patches had already been applied.
I don't really want to use baselines as they are in 11.2.3a as they don't seem to work that well and don't give me control over when patches are applied. Can't go to 11.3 until summer at the earliest so that's out the equation as well. Any suggestions for how to achieve the above and where I might be going wrong?

  • Patch management schedule

Just gone to do some testing with ZPM prior to rolling it out on our student Windows 7 PCs and realised there seems to be a gaping hole in the scheduling options for deployment
For example I want to install Flash \ Java patches as soon as the system starts or as soon as the user logs on to ensure they're done before a browser is opened, how comes I can do this with Bundle schedule options but not for Patches?

Just found an interesting workaround that might solve my problems...
After remembering that ZPM basically creates Bundles for each Remediation activity I went to the Bundles\ZPM folder and found the directive Bundle for the activity I'd set up (I named mine Flash 11.8). At that point I could see the standard Relationship \ Assignment Details options and changed the schedule to "At User Login"
Tried it and Flash updated perfectly as expected, are there any side-effects to modifying the schedule in this way? If not it'll do the trick nicely as I can patch Flash and Java either at machine boot or login so they're ready to use straight away then have the larger Windows patches go through at night.

  • Hide ZPM folders in zenworks explorer window

    Hi all,
I'm upgrading ZFD to ZCM 10.3.1 with the new functionality of ZPM. I have ZCM in test environment. I see that ZPM bundles folders are visible in the Zenworks explorer windows. Are there a solution to hide this folders?
    Thank you

  • Schedule AWR through OEM

is there a way to schedule AWR reports using OEM

As 1772421 suggested - have you tried running from enterprise reports?I recall creating something similar - you can create either a HTML or test report (using the plsql packages) and bundle / schedule from EM.
    If you navigate:
Enterprise -> Reports -> BI Publisher Reports ->
You will need to create a new report, monitoring type, target will be DB.
If you run a table or report from sql you can then put in your awr statement (you'll need some dynamic sql to pull the last n snapshots into your comparison report).
If you go for a custom report you can schedule it daily against one or more target DBs & also stipulate the DB group. It's commonly done for the tablespace usage report (which is a good template to use also).

  • What to do with old remediation patches??

I had seen postings in the past that if you deleted a ZPM bundle it would remove the patch after the uninstall time passed (default 30days)
Is that still the case with 10.3.3?

  • Firefox update (removing my settings)

    Hello,
We're using Firefox 24.3.0 (ESR) and we disabled auto updates for example. In patch management 24.4.0 is available now. If I ran the update through patch management then auto updates in Firefox is enabled again. Also first run is back.
Anyone else seeing this behaviour in Firefox or other programs like adobe/java/chrome etc..
We want to use patch management for those programs aswell but if our default settings are revert back everytime if we roll out a patch through zcm patchmanagement, it takes more time then creating your own bundles.

    This is normal behavior, IMO.
For example, the Flash auto-updates is controlled through an mms.cfg file or something that *you* have to customize and deploy. It's not part of any patch since there's no way Lumension or any patch vendor could magically know what/how you want the settings customized.
    To workaround the issue:
We have separate ZCM bundles for the configurations and deploy those every time you login to the device.
You *may* be able to customize the Firefox Patch deploy (I've not tried this) as I thought there was a special switch to use to tell Firefox install.exe to leave the existing settings "as is".
Technically a patch is a bundle and you'll see the install actions in there that you may be able to tweak to suit your needs.
Like if you have your custom settings in another bundle, you *may* be able to modify the ZPM bundle and ADD an action like "run firefox settings bundle".
Granted, Lumension/Novell may not support you if you have an issue with the modified patch, but I do believe technically it can be achieved.

  • Distribute action requirment

    Hi all,
I have a bundle that has 3 different actions, distribute, install and launch
In some cases the application is already installed (but not by zenworks) and then I only want the launch action to be completed.
The install action is not that difficult to set requirment on but is there anyway to avoid downloading content if the application is installed?
    /Lennart

    Simply Disable the "Distribute Action".
This will not prevent the "Install Action" from pulling down the files
    if needed.
About the only time you would want to need this is if you created a
bundle schedule that was set to "Distribute" but not "Install".
Let's say you wanted to install Office 2015 On Everyone's PC on January
    1st at 12:01 am.
Rather than Pushing all the content and running the install at 12:01
which may overload servers, you could slowly push the content in advance
and then run the install at the later time.
Honestly, I would disable that action by default on all of my Bundles as
the "Use Case" for it is very rare.

  • TFT 11.3 ZENworks Loader services are running on one

    Hi,
I Upgraded 11.2.2 to 11.3 . The Problem is that All bundle scheduled at boot device are not working for windows7 after this update .
I saw a patch on "FTF Roll Up 1 for ZENworks" but when I want to deploy this path the following message appeared!
The wizard cannot continue for the following reason(s):
ErrorUnable to complete your request for the following reason: The ZENworks Server or the ZENworks Loader services are running on one or more Primary Servers. Shut down the services before proceeding
Question: what are the step by step method to install this patch?
    Thank you

Thank you Shaun, in my lab test, your step by step method is working. What is the step to upgrade the PC computer ? I'll explain : The PC have Zenworks client 11.2.3, I upgraded the server to 11.3 and after I installed the patch TFT on the server after 1 day. My last question : Should I deploy the patch TFT only to upgrade the client because the TFT rebuilted the new software client on server or should I deploy the 11.3 update and after install the patch TFT on the PC?
Thanks Shaun for your follow-up, Pierre

  • Multiple Groups?

Dumb question, I've not read the docs all the way just yet.
In ZCM can you have workstations (devices) be in more than one group?
For example, have a group for ZPM that's sorted via IP (like in the standalone ZPM where there's a system group sorted via IP network segment)
But ALSO have a group in ZCM (like Windows XP, etc.) for regular non-ZPM Bundles, policies etc.
I am assuming that there's some sort of priority/precedence if you were to have multiple groups and somehow assigned conflicting things to multiple groups (we don't intend for that to happen).

    kjhurni,
    >In ZCM can you have workstations (devices) be in more than one group?
Just tested it and you can. I didn't test which would have priority, like
if the group had policies associated. Probably doesn't matter much in a
    bundle group though.

    Hi All
my customer scan one workstation ,and deliver 6 patches to this client. but he find only 5/6 patches update fine. I check the setting of the ZPM Bundle, all patches were set "continue on failure"....why the patch update fail (it is unpatched on this workstation),and whether the Bundle will auto re-send the patch again or not ?
