Zyxel pk500z router/wireless modem loses wireless connectivity with imac

My iMac loses wireless connectivity with wirelss internet from my Qwest  ZyXel PK5000Z modem/router intermittently. Have to constantly reboot the router to allow my Imac and other Mac notebooks nto reconnect to wireless internet connection.

Suggest that you take one or more of Mac laptops down to the coffee place and connect there to check  your performance. If you get a good connection there....as I suspect you will...you know the Macs are functioning correctly.
If the Macs perform well at the coffee place, you need to contact the ZyXel support folks for ideas on why the PK5000Z device is requiring constant restarts.
As you might imagine....on an Apple support forum, we are not going to be able to provide much help with a ZyXel product.

I am familiar with how to add hardware and point to a .msi file under XP, but less so on Windows 7.  I ran the add hardware tool, but it finds no new hardware to add.  There is no point installing a driver when the hardware can't be found.  Besides, I didn't do anything that would have changed or removed the old driver.  My WiFi was working perfectly until Sunday.
I also tried rolling back windows to an earlier restore point.  Unfortunately, it reports that it is unable to apply any of the prior restore points (even after I temporarily disabled Norton AntiVirus).
How to I initiate getting a replacement WiFi card under warranty?

Can time capsule boost the wireless network without beeing connected with cabel, hence wirelessly?

Yes, providing that the wireless network has been created by another Apple "n" router.
The "extend a wireless network" feature on the Time Capsule is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.

Impossible, there are zero, as in none, zip, nadda viruses for OS X. If you have viruses on it they are for MS Windows and will not affect OS X. I suspect the hard disk has crashed, if you have backup then it's not a big deal to have it changed, just take it into your local Apple Store or AASP for service. If you have not been backing it up you may be in for a painful lesson on why backup is critical.

  • Wireless printer no longer connected with Lion

My HP Photosmart D110a multifunction printer/scanner is connected via a wireless Belkin router. Prior to upgrading to Lion, anyone on my network was able to print to it and the scanner worked fine. Since upgrading my iMac to Lion, the HP printer utility indicates that the printer is not connected. I have the latest driver and tested the connection from the printer to the router and all the reports indicate it is connected.
The other computers on the network are still able to print to the HP, but my 2011 iMac, upgraded to Lion cannot.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Davegt
With help from the HP website I just figured it out. The printer and computer needed to be connected by a USB cable. With that, I was able to run the HP Printer Setup Assistant and it, somehow, connected my iMac printer stuff to my router. When that was complete, it instructed me to disconnect the USB and now the wireless connection works.
    Thanks for trying to help.

  • Wireless does not hold connection with b43 driver!

    Hi everybody!!
It's my first time here in the forum, so nice to meet you.
I have a laptop Acer Aspire 3050 and I recently formatted it to install the new Arch 2009.08.
It's pretty cool, but I can't make my wireless card (Broadcom BCM4318) work with b43 driver. It worked very well with Arch 2009.02, but now it's a pain!
It recognizes the driver, loads it and connect with no problems, but when I ping my desktop machine, it says that unfortunate message "Destination Host Unreachable"
It sometimes works when I do these commands about 5 or 10 times:
    ./connect
ping 192.168.0.1 >>> Destination Host Unreachable
    ifconfig wlan0 down
    rmmod b43
    /etc/rc.d/network restart
    modprobe b43
    ./connect
    [... many more times]
but even when it does connect, it usually can't hold the connection for more than 15 or 20 minutes. And I have to do it all again.
Hear goes some info on configuration files so it may help you:

    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond hal)
I've already tried many different configurations in rc.conf, but it still does not estabilish a connection in the first try.
I'm using the driver from the wiki (http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/broa … .5.tar.bz2) and did not try with only ndiswrapper. It's because I want to have all functionalities from criptography and... after all, it was supposed to work, wasn't it?
Where could be the problem? The driver version? Or bad configuration?
Thanks in advance!! If you need more information, please ask.

So, the same problem occurred and in a relatively shorter time than before. I began to think that something is causing this problem.
My theory is that it is a VMWare software issue. What I've been doing differently recently is using it in "Unity" mode as opposed to "Full Screen" mode. My guess is that the program is modifying my wireless permissions and screwing it all up.
So, what I've done is set the "Network Adapter" to "Host-Only". This denies the VMWare program internet access but still allows file sharing between the Windows virtual environment and the Mac hard drive.
Then I had to re-install Mac OS X all over again to fix the wireless settings/permissions mess.

  • No connectivity with wireless notebook but has connectivity with wired desktops in the network

Hello! My name is Annie.  I have a BEFW11s4 LinkSys Wireless Access Point / Cable Router with 4-Port Switch version2.1. My three desktops are hard wired into the router and have no problem with connectivity to each of three computers in my home network and to the internet.
My problem is that my wireless notebook does not see the router. There is no connectivity or does not see wireless network in range.  The notebook is about two feet away in distance from router and wireless switch of my notebook is on. The WLAN Link is Green and the Link LED illuminates, which means that the wireless option is enabled.
Please help! I travel with notebook often for work and need to connect to the home network and internet once I am home.   The notebook has no problem with a different wireless router when at work( 2WIRE).  It's when I get home that I encounter the problem when I am using the wireless linksys described above.  I also change the preference in my notebook to make sure the home linksys router is the first in the list of wireless router.  I only have two in thelist (2WIRE and linksys)
    Thanks,
    Annie

annie no need to do the reset since 3desktops are working already...you can see linksys maybe thats your own network since you never mention about any wireless settings with your wireless access point, right?
so to make sure that you have the right settings check your access point screen or the configuration page to check or to futher configure the wireless the settings...try to name your own network so would identify our own network...

  • 2wire wireless- Airport Extreme- ethernet connection to iMac - how?

I have AT+T's DSL router that has wireless capabilities (802.11g, not n). I'm trying to use the new (802.11n version, although I'm not using n for this obviously) airport extreme to extended my wireless network to give me a wired access point to my old iMac (no wireless card).
So far the best I can do is get the airport extreme on the wireless network with a green light, but I can't get a wireline connection to land on this network. I'd even be ok with the airport extreme was a router that made the wired ports on a different network that would then route out to the wireless network.
When I connect a wired device to the airport extreme, it comes up with a 169.254.94.121 address. The wireless network is 192.168.1.x. The airport extreme does get it's 192.168.1.68 address on the same network as the 2wire. I've even forced my iMac into having an 192.168.1.80 address, but it can't ping the airport extreme's 192.168.1.68 address, so obviously the airport extreme isn't behaving how I would like. I even fired up WireShark on the connection, but it looks like the airport extreme won't even talk to it in any way; I was hoping to find the IP address on the wired side of the AX.
Basically I'm trying to use the airport extreme completely backwards from the usual setup. Wireless to wired instead of wired to wireless.
    Here's what I have:
Airport Extreme - Join a wireless network, security is WPA2, and it's on the network (as seen by 2wire)
Can I get the wired connections on the airport extreme to be an extension of the wireless network or even as another NAT routed connection?
DSL router (2wire) that sends wireless-> Airport Extreme (join a wireless network) -> wired connection to iMac.
Why am I doing this? No phone line connection even close to my iMac.

I had to jump straight into the manual configuration, but it does show Wireless mode: Join a wireless network. And the 2wire shows it as a device connected to that network.
    Connect using: Wireless Network
Ok, I'm still a bit confused. On the AEBSn, the only options available for Connect Using (found on the Internet > Internet Connection tab) are: Ethernet or PPPoE; For Wireless Mode (found on the AirPort > Wireless tab) are: Create a wireless network, Participate in a WDS network, Extend a wireless network, or Off. Unlike the AirPort Express or Time Capsule, there should NOT be an option for "Join a wireless network."
So at this point I think it is extending my wireless network. I just can't figure out how to get the wired ethernet ports to be on that same network.
Regardless, when configuring for "Join a wireless network," the base station would join as a wireless client, not as a means to extend the wireless range of the exiting wireless network. Since this is not the way to set up a WDS, the Ethernet ports on the AEBSn would not be enabled for sharing Internet connectivity.
WDS is not an option as the 2wire router doesn't seem to be able to handle that.
Then it appears that there will not be an option to create a WDS no matter which vendor's router you try to configure the 2Wire to work with. Sorry!

  • Wanna kill your wireless modem and function key with a few mouse clicks?

    Toshi satallite 675D, 3gHz 4meg ram, doze 7
All you have to do is go to msconfig and disable all start up apps except the touch pad and hit restart. This is immediately after the second in two days 2 hour recovery which fixes the problem. After watching while all the flab gets reinstalled and upon rebooting, I checked the fn key, its working. I went straight to msconfig and did what I described above checking the fn key while the restart choice is waiting.... it's working. After restart fn key and all the F keys at the top of the keyboard are dead and the wireless modem is also dead. Even tho the modem light is on.  I go back to msconfig and enable all startup apps  to no avail. I type in flash and restart the flash cards and it actually worked ONCE. I disable again as above and restart and every thing is dead again like before only now it's another two hours of reloading crap I don't need to get this other crap I don't need to work again. Surely...... there is a better way to turn the coffee shop modem on and off. What is it please? If this is the best toshi can do with a marketing device they are in trouble.

  • Unable to set wireless connection with imac and Canon MX860 printer ...

I recently converted to a Mac and bought a Mac Book, iMac, Airport Extreme, and a Canon MX860 printer. i have installed the canon software numerous times on my iMac to set up the wireless connection. yes, the airport extreme recognizes the printer and i am able to connect to my private and guest networks. the signal strength is good. It's the next part that I'm always stuck at. The Printer settings does not display when i choose More Printers and select Canon IJ Network. I called Apple support and we tried changing my network settings to an unsecured network and it still has the same issue. It was recommended this may be Canon driver issue and advised me to contact Canon. I reset the Airport, changed my network name and password .. i think i tried everything and it still does not work. What was I thinking when i said i wanted to convert to Mac? I can't move forward and connect my macbook or pc yet until I successfully connect the imac. Yes, i installed the latest canon IJ Network tool. of course the USB connection is fine but that defeats the whole purpose if why i bought this printer. please advise how to fix. this is getting very frustrating.

Some help at http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV352LL/A perhaps in the comments.
And maybe at http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PIXMA-MX860-Wireless-Printer/product-reviews/B001R4C 5BK in the comments.
"I ran into the same network installation issue that I've seen in other Canon printers. Canon's network setup forces you to connect by USB cable first. Only after you tell the program that you want to use the computer over the network can you remove the USB cable, move the printer if needed, and if you're using a wired connection, reconnect a network cable. The process isn't particularly difficult, but it's more cumbersome than what other printers let you do, which is simply put the printer where you want it, plug in an Ethernet cable, and install the software." source = http://shop.pcmag.com/shop/product/pcmag/84634068.aspx?SB=6&OB=1
"MAC wireless network printer setup requires turning off firewall, and works fine if you leave firewall off (not recommended). If you set firewall at "essential connections only," wireless networked MX860 won't work. You must add MP navigator and solution apps to your firewall enabled list. Then it worked fine on the admin account, but still won't work on users account which required additional permission settings and selections. After 2 hours it worked fine, but I would've expected better instruction manual for MAC." source = http://cnet.nytimes.com/multifunction-devices/canon-pixma-mx860/4852-3181_7-3352 9769.html
"The only trouble that I have had with this machine is setting up the wireless network. The manual instructions are impossible for me to understand and I ended up having to call for assistance. Which easily solved the problem. And again when I had to reconfigure my network settings it was impossible to follow the logarithm of instructions in the manual. Again I needed to call for assistance. If I need help after the year manufacture's warranty I will be charged for these calls." source = http://www.zimbio.com/InkjetPrinter+Reviews/articles/1932/Canon+PIXMA+MX860+Wireless+One+PhotoPrinter
    Even Windows people have trouble:
"I NEED INTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CONNECT MY HP LAPTOP TO THE CANON MX860 PRINTER."
"I'm with you. I have my mx860 connected usb to my pc with the printer being shared but my wireless laptop can't find it no matter what I try."
    And, unhappy Vista person:
"I had high hopes for this printer - it seemed to have it all. But the wireless feature never worked, it only worked on my gigabit network for about two weeks (only THREE print jobs including the test print), and never observed it to work via USB - Vista (x64 Ultimate) would throw an error saying it could not attach the device."

  • Modem loses PPPoE connection

My Zoom ADSL 5654 modem keeps losing its connection with the PPPoE server. Every time I pick up the phone or hang up it's able to get its line sync--but about every third time, it can't also reestablish a connection. "System Status" says the PPPoE connection is down.
It also occurs sometimes when I haven't used the phone at all.
I can restore it by running the diagnostic test.
I've done what Zoom suggests: establishing a new location in Network Preferences. Doesn't work. The tech support guy didn't know what else to suggest, but he did say that restoring the connection with the diagnostics made no sense. Yet it works.
This may be relevant: Zoom modems store PPPoE login data and seem to control the logging in; in Network Preferences, DHCP is on and PPPoE is off. It's what the instructions direct, and it works most of the time.
What could be going on here? I'd appreciate any thoughts.
    Powerbook G4 17-inch   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi there
I have a similar problem - my connection drops if I use the phone. My belief is that this is not a mac problem but the adsl connection. I have been on a 1mb service for some years and recently had this service upgraded to 4mb. The problem started as soon as the 4mb came online (never had the problem with the 1mb service). I have been fighting with my isp and with the line provider to establish where the problem lies for three months to no avail. If I ever get an answer to this I'll post here.
