Db_dump not working on db file generated by rep-system

Question

built with db-4.5.20 a sample rep-app, the code from "Getting Started with Replicated Berkeley DB Applications" at http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/db/gsg_db_rep/C/index.html
It works as expected, but after stopping the all the running rep-apps (master, replicas), use "db_dump -d a quote.db", I got:
db_dump: Locker is not valid
db_dump: open: quote.db: Invalid argument
db_dump: Unknown locker ID: 10
db_dump: close: Invalid argument
Retrying, with "db_dump -h ...", db_dump hangs forever.
What is wrong?

Thanks for reply. db_dump -N works with some warnings. Now, I got stuck with db-4.6.21. The same sample code of simple_txn. The same way of build libdb.a, with 4.5.20, it works while with 4.6.21, I got segmentation fault.
library build for both 4.5/4.6:
cd $dbversion/build_unix
../dist/configure --disable-pthread-api
make
compile/link to 4.5, it works as expected.
compile/link to 4.6, I got:
library build did not include support for the Replication Manager
library build did not include support for the Replication Manager
library build did not include support for the Replication Manager
DB_ENV->mutex_set_align: alignment value must be a non-zero power-of-two
Segmentation fault
I tried to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH/LD_AOUT_LIBRARY_PATH properly, it is still same error. Besides, ldd command does not show any run-time libdb.so link.
My system is Red Hat Linux release 6.2
compiler is gcc 2.95.3
