DST Mountain Lion bug?

Our MacBook Air's clock did NOT reset itself for DST.
In the Preference pane, though, set the time automatically is checked!
The laptop's an hour ahead of my watch!
Oops!   It's my watch that needed changing.  Now with an Apple Watch, that would happen automatically!
So, it is time for dinner after all… although, actually I'm not hungry because I'm on regular, normal astro time!

Don't you just have to active the 24hour format to your whole mac? (You probably also have the 12 hour clock AM/PM in iCal). To do this, simply follow these steps:
-> System Preferences
-> Language & Text
-> Region
-> Chose Germany again and close window.

If you're not comfortable with English, it may be best to post in your native language. Others can use automatic translation, if necessary, to help them understand you. They may reply in their native language, and then you can do the same to understand them.
    Google Translate

Give details of the problem. A statement such as "it doesn't work" conveys no information. If it did work, you wouldn't be here. Instead, you should post something like this: "I did A; I was expecting B; but I got C instead." Include the complete text of any error messages you saw and where you saw them: in an application window, a CrashReporter window, a log, or whatever. Also include the steps you’ve taken yourself, if any, to try to resolve the issue. If the problem is of recent origin, did you make any changes to your setup just before you first noticed it? Is the problem reproducible or intermittent? That is, does it always manifest itself when you take a certain action, or only at unpredictable times?
Before posting, ask yourself whether it’s likely that you are the the only person ever to have had this problem. If not, search the discussions for answered questions similar to yours. If you found any pertinent information, but it didn't help, include details.

  • Another Mountain Lion bug

    Hi all.
I have discovered another bug in Mountain Lion.
I have Adobe Creative Suite 6 Installed (including InDesign CS6) and have had to also install my old InDesign CS4 to work with clients that use it.
I have chosen an InDesign document that was created in CS4 (and hasn't been opened in CS6) and right clicked - 'Get Info'
Changed the 'Open With' default from CS6 to CS4.
    So far so good.
I then clicked "Change All", I get the confirmation message box, and as soon as I click "Yes, please change All to CS4" It immediately changes the default setting back to CS6.
If I change the "Open with" default for a file to CS4, and leave it at that, it works fine for that file,
but the "Change All" function seems to be broken.
The Change All function seems to work fine on Leopard and Snow Leopard. I haven't tried Lion, but I suspect that is where the trouble starts. (It has with other bugs.).
Any light that any of you could shed on this, or even fixes involving the Terminal and the Unix commands, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time.
Also this forum has a problem with the question form.
below it has asked me for my product - "Macbook Pro"
Then Operating System - and it gives me a choice of iOS from 4 to 7
As far as I know, Apple hasn't inflicted mobile phone operating systems on computers. yet.
    perish the thought.

Change All works quite well for me for every version of Mountain Lion and on several different computers. It's not an OS X problem. You have some other problem such as possible file permissions' issues. You might try repairing ACLs and permissions in your Home folder by using the "resetpassword" Terminal command that you may access via the Recovery HD. You will not be resetting passwords, btw.
Reset User Permissions and ACLs in Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
From the Utilities menu select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt enter: resetpassword. Press RETURN. When the window opens select your startup drive where it says "Select the volume containing the user account:" At the bottom of the window you will see, "Reset Home folder permissions and ACLs." Click on the Reset button.

  • Mail 6.0 (Mountain Lion) Bug

I upgraded to Mountain Lion yesterday and I've noticed that sometimes when I go into Mail, there seems to be a graphics glitch and then goes away.  Today, I went to Apple and they told me its most likely a bug they'll have to patch since it's the first version of ML.  I have a picture to show you.  It's mostly when I open mail with a message from something that has links.  They sent it to the engineers to see what's wrong.  My hardware diagnostic came back fine too.  Should I be worried?

No, you're not alone. I am seeing it in Mail, too. I started seeing this issue in 10.8 and now running 10.8.1. However, some insight.....
If you are running a Dual GPU MBP like I am, it seems to happen whenever the integrated GPU (Intel) is being used; if I am on the discrete GPU (AMD Radeon), I do not see it.
My guess is this will be fixed in the next update (ie. 10.8.2) but in the meantime, those affected should submit feedback directly to Apple about it: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

I just noticed what might be a minor bug in Mountain Lion.

As an update, I tried switching the main display to the MBP. Nothing changed.
However, I changed the rotation to 90 degrees and everything is back to Normal! Aside from the fact that I'm looking a 24" screen in the vertical position.

  • Mountain Lion bug:  Switching between virtual desktops not possible when using external screen only.

I think I have found a bug.  I upgraded to Mountain Lion last week, 2 days after ML became available.  My laptop is a Macbook Pro from November 2011.  I ran Lion before and I did an upgrade on my laptop (not reinstall, but upgrade).
I have an external HP screen (24 inch) connected using DVI (standard connection). I also have an external Apple keyboard (bluetooth) and the external trackpad (bluetooth). I concider myself as a power user with long experience.  I started using multiple desktops in Snow Leopard, and really liked the "4 finger swipe up" that came in Lion.  By swiping 4 fingers up on the trackpad, I can see all "virtual desktops" on the top of the screen and select or more applications to the different screens.
This function does still work, but when I put the Macbook pro in "clamshell mode" (meaning the lid is locked and I am ONLY using the external screen), then this does not work.  When I do the gesture (4 finger swipe up), the virtual desktops on top of the screen are not shown.
But if I open the Mac and then having 2 active screens, both the internal LCD on the Macbook Pro and the external HP screen, it works again.  It does not matter which screen the "Finder many" is active on.
Picture below show how it is supposed to work.  And it still works if no external screen is connected or if the external screen connected but the lid on the Mac is still open (not clamshell mode).
This is how it looks on the external screen when I do the "4 finger swipe up" and the Macbook Pro is in clamshell mode (lid down).  Please also note how the background image is not minimized in the same way as before.
Have any other experienced the same problem ?  Where do I report this to Apple ?  Any e-mail or WEB pages where I can report bugs ?

As an update, I tried switching the main display to the MBP. Nothing changed.
However, I changed the rotation to 90 degrees and everything is back to Normal! Aside from the fact that I'm looking a 24" screen in the vertical position.

  • Mountain Lion Bug with Late 2008 15" Macbook Pro

While draging any type of file from one place to another it seems as if my mouse sticks when i let go of the button. My track pad is not broken because I grabed a Magic mouse, and still same problem. The only way to fix this I have found is relaunching finder, which then puts the file back in its original spot.
Please Help! This is driving me crazy!
Also here is a video I made for my issue...

Something is going on with your Accessibility preferences, though I am not sure what.
    System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad >
Verify both Mouse and Trackpad Options. If you cannot find anything obvious then change one or more of the settings and determine if it has any effect.

  • Is apple giving money back if you have Mountain Lion uninstalled?

    Hi everyone,
My main question is if Apple will give me my money back for Mountain Lion and iPhoto11 if I have them uninstall them? I know it's only $35 total, but I am not paying them my hard earned money for a program that has ruined my computer and makes me not want to even use it.
Also, is the correctional update going to be free for people who already purchased Mountain Lion when they release it? Does anyone know when they plan to release it?
Thanks for reading and/or responding, in advance!
Here is the rather long complaint I registered with Apple if you are interested:
    "Good day,
After downloading Mountain Lion (I will call it ML) and iPhoto11 2 days ago, I am experiencing non-stop problems on a 2010 macbook pro that I have NEVER had issues with. I downloaded ML initially after seeing in multiple locations that Apple was advertising speak-to-type app that allows you to do type papers/do homework simply by taking into your computer... Yea, they forgot to mention the app only lets you talk for 30 seconds and gets more than half of my words wrong. WHAT KIND OF PAPER CAN I WRITE IN 30 SECONDS?! False advertisement.
Anyhow, here is the list of my other issues:
    - Photostream/iCloud for my pictures has stopped working after about 24 hours of doing fine.
    - My "All Notes" list is not in sync with what comes up on my notepad. I click on one title and it pulls up a completely different note. This works fine on my phone though.
    - Notes are not saving what I write on my phone; is only saving what gets typed in from my computer.
    - Notes is sending 2 copies of some notes to my phone. If I delete the second copy, it comes right back when I refresh Notes.
    - Anything that I open that has iCloud gives me a message saying whether I want to allow access to "imap.gmail.com." It gives me the options: always allow, allow and deny. No matter which I click this message continuously pops up on my screen, not accepting my entry. It won't go away.
    - My email makes me retype my password when I open it, but only about 1/3 of the time. Sometimes it accepts my password and sometimes it does not. I am entering the same exact password...
    - I set up my emails to appear in order by date. This does not save.
    - My internet kept failing when I first installed ML. It hasn't failed recently but it is slow.
    - Apps are loading very slow. The App Store will only load sometimes, and is very slow when it does decide to.
    - My battery is draining much faster than it did with Snow Leopard (SL) and is also draining much faster than it says it will when I hover the icon. Right now it is at 29% and says 2 hours 5 minutes remaining. Eight minutes about it was at 36 percent and said over 3 hours remaining. Clearing not true.
Also, here is a list of things that are confusing and I have not been able to find an answer to on the forums:
    - How do I view only one account on my email, so that I am able to see all of the folders under that account that I created?
    - How can I organize my documents into folders?
    - Why are the folders and documents I had in SL not appearing when I click on documents in finder?
    - In finder, where it lists documents, applications, desktop, airdrop, ect. I used to have one called "katielubinski" (my name) on SL. That is where I stored all of my document folders and now on ML it is no longer there and I am unable to find my documents. What happened/what do I do instead?
Hence all of that, I want it uninstalled if you cannot fix ALL of these problems and I want my money back. I also want iPhoto11 uninstalled considering I only purchased it because it's the only version that works with iCloud... which has stopped working for my pictures and therefore makes iPhoto11 useless for me. I liked iPhoto09 better and didn't even want to "upgrade" from it. I don't like the new changes at all. Also, I expect that the correctional update you all are issuing is going to be free for those of us who have already purchases Mountain Lion? It better be.
I know it's not just me thanks to all the articles on the internet I have read. I also posted on facebook about this and had a non stop stream of messages and comments about issues my friends are facing... we all seem to have a unique variety. Hopefully that doesn't mean more problems are to come. I have talked to two people who said its working fine. Two out of eleven that I have spoke to... Good job, Apple.
    Sincerely,
    My Name"
So, yea... that's it. Haven't heard back from an actual human being, of course, so I plan on calling Apple Support today and also have an appointment at the Apple store about an hour away from me incase they can't help with everything over the phone. Wish me luck!

    Good luck!
While the majority of users are not seeing any major issues there are always a significant minority who run into problems.
Question is why?  Is it something to do with software/system configuration prior to upgrading, the process going wrong or Mountain Lion bugs.
Now there are inevitably bugs in all software  - the question is why are onlt some peopel affected.
Your real problem is that you can't simply downgrade to Lion or Snow Leopard without wiping your existing system.
Apple have refunded some users who have not been happy with certain aspects but I think they would be handling this on a case by case basis.
Personally, if in your situation I would ensure I had all my data backed up, reinstall the shipping OS, update it to current version and then try to install Mountain Lion again.
When computers play up sorting things like this out is a real chore.

  • Energy Settings vs Rendering... problem in Mountain Lion and CS6?

I'm using AE CS6 off the Creative Cloud for the first time with Mountain Lion 10.8.3.
Previously I've been working in Lion with CS5. I do intensive, long renders and in the past, anytime the computer was actively processing, it would never put it's hard drive to sleep. But, this morning, with the new OS and sofware, I discovered the render had simply paused when the energy saver kicked in. The hard drive had stopped.
Obviously I can turn off the energy save setting, but is this a Mountain Lion bug? I really appreciated before that I could hit a 12 hour render, and then if I was elsewhere, I would know that the computer would go into sleep mode upon completion of the render. Trying to stay green.

That's interesting Rick. I'll have to test that. so basically the rule would be, hit render and don't use the machine to check or work on anything else. Don't leave the AE window.
I'll have to figure out where to post this question for Apple.

  • Time Machine backup disk no longer available since upgrade to Mountain Lion

    He everyone,
I've been using Time Machine for years to backup my iMac to an external USB harddrive (Samsung HD103Sl), and everything used to work just fine up until I installed Mountain Lion.
Now Finder nor Time Machine can see my external harddrive. If I go to DIsk Utility, the harddrive is listed there, and everything seem to be just fine. I tried to run a disk verification and a repair, but Disk Utility tell me everything is OK.
Is it a Mountain Lion bug? Can someone help me with that?
    TIA
    Charles

I'm not sure if I have exactly the same case as yours....
I got the problem with my external HDD (with 2 partitions) while I was using one of the encrypted partition as Time Machine backup. I could not erase it after I upgrade to Mountain Lion, and it shown "this patition contain a locked disk and can not be resized until it is unlocked" in Disk Utility.
You may have a look if that's the same in Disk Utility.
Finally I get it fixed by the "diskutil" command in "Terminal" in "OSX > Applications > Utilities".
I used the command "diskutil" to verify the UUID of the "Logical Volume Group (LVG)" of the locked partition.
Then use the command to delete the LVG.
** All logical volume under this groiup will be deleted!!
Once the operation finished, I am able to recreate the partition in Disk Utility.
    Hope this help!!

  • Mountain Lion WiFi: Major Problem

I have a late 2011 17" MBP and did a clean install of 10.8.  Ever since that time, I am unable to maintain a useable connection to certain access points.  At first it seemed like the internet was slow, but eventually pages loaded and I didn't think too much of it.  But then I started accessing lots of files on my home server (OS 10.6.8 Server) and the Finder was beachballing with nearly every click.  I plugged in an ethernet cable and all the problems went away.  Went back to wireless, the beach balls and sluggishness came back.  Then I rebooted to my 10.6.8 partition and connected and used the network just fine on the wireless, as I had been for years before on this MacBook and my previous MBP.
After searching through forum posts I saw that some people were blaming this Mountain Lion bug on whatever runs the 5Ghz connections.  So I forced my MBP to connect to the 2.4Ghz radio.  While I did have one glitch (a video didn't play smooth over the network initially) it has basically been solid ever since. Yesterday I spent the day at a client where I run the network and my 5Ghz problems came back.  I would have to power cycle the Airport to get the connection useable again.  Both my home network and this client's are running with Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex 7363 access points.  At home I also have an Airport Extreme from a few years ago that I use as a router with wireless disabled.  I turned that on and while I didn't really use it for all that long, it seemed to work at 5Ghz--but I didn't really use it that long and need to do more testing.
    My exact setup:
    1) Clean install of 10.8
    2) Late 2011 MBP 17"
    3) Ruckus Wireless ZoneFlex 7363 firmware 7.3.x
I hope this is fixed soon or someone discovers a workaround.

+1 -- I'm basically in WiFi h*ll since upgrading. 10.8. Injected all sorts of issues on my network and devices where 10.7 was rock solid. Mid 2009 15" MBP dropping connections on Linksys E4200 at 5GHz. If I switch to 2.4 GHz, no issues. At home I have an Airport Extreme running 2.4 and 5Ghz. I am experiencing drops on 5GHz there as well. I upgraded to 10.8 instead of a clean install, but from reading the forums that doesn't work either.  I have a Mac Mini that is wired and no problems.
    A couple of other interesting pheneomenons since upgrading;
    new model Airport Express:
I bought one the same day as upgrading to 10.8 and immediately encountered issues setting up the AP to extend the Airport Extreme network on 5GHz (kept returning "encountered unkown errror" when writing the configuraiton to the AP). I had to use the old 5.6 Airport Utility to get it to save and 2.4GHz to keep devices from losing their connections. Other weird thing is the 'Back to My Mac' icon on the Airport Express stays yellow where the Airport Extreme turns green.
    new model Apple TV 3:
Flawless prior to upgrade day. Now, no longer works on either frequency. Started with dropping Home Sharing connections, then progressed to losing WiFi altogether. It won't even run on the ISP provided router at this point. If I do a reset or a full restore in iTunes, it works for about 5 minutes and then drops the connection and resets itself to the main screen with only a 'Settings' and 'Computers' icon.
I know, possilby conincidences and unrelated but curious issues for sure. I've pulled out each piece and tried to see where the problem returns but no luck. I have recommended and deployed a lot of Apple devices over the years and this is the first time I've ever had problems. One family member seems to be having a similar issue with a new Apple TV3, Airport Extreme and iMac on 10.8 combination. A little embarrassed for having made those recommendations now. The only thing that solves it for me is rolling back to 10.7

  • Bit by Mountain Lion's Time Machine bug - how to proceed best in the simpler cases?

My MacBook Air mid-2012 had never been updated to Mavericks.  I had backed it up just a week before a big coffee spill that killed it (June 2014).
I finally got a replacement never-before-used 2012 Macbook Air running Mountain Lion (great to make the Time Machine restore seamless).
That's when I tried "Restore from Time Machine" and it showed the "last full backup" as being from June 2013!!!  Then in Migration Assistant, couldn't locate my disk.  I've been bitten by the "Exclusion" bug and my Library/ Applications / System folders have not been backed up since a year ago.  I'm one of the ones that "found out after it was too late."
So I'll try the workaround.  Thanks to Pondini for his great website:
    http://pondini.org/TM/D10.html
    http://pondini.org/TM/D10r.html
My plan is to restore from Time Machine to my 2013 full system.
Then swap out the Users folder to bring it up to date to the June 2014 version that I have backed up.
Luckily I have only one user account so this can't get TOO complicated.
After that, I'll reset Time Machine and check it periodically via the Command-R trick to make sure it's backing everything up fully.
Still, I'm left with a few questions/concerns that I'm hoping Pondini or others can help to allay before I proceed....
-What will I have lost in a year from those folders that did not back up?  I know I may have lost non-Mac applications that I downloaded and also any software updates to said applications.  What problems might I encounter in the way of error messages, etc.?  I feel like i don't understand the contents of these folders well enough to realize how in trouble I'm in (or not) regarding these folders being out-of-date by a whole year.
-Is it really as simple as swapping out the Users folder on the new system with my most recent backup from June 2014?  Any hiccups I should expect from this process?  Will all of my photos go back into iPhoto?  Will all of my mail files go back into the Mail app?  Or in these cases, is there something I need to initiate to smooth out this process?  Photos and Mails are the two big concerns; as for the other stuff, I have yet to find out if it's relevant until a problem occurs.
-Once I have restored Apps/Systems/Library to the 2013 backup and Users to the 2014 backup, then what?  I'll reset Time Machine but then should I assign it to the new computer?  Should I tell it to inherit the new computer?  Should I wipe it clean and start fresh?  How to proceed after so that I don't have more and more problems down the line, and hopefully don't lose any of the data that I at least have managed to save/restore up to now...
Thanks in advance for any help and sorry if I'm not more clear; I'm not so technologically literate so I'm not sure how best to phrase these things to get my point across.
And special shout out to Pondini who made the discovery of this bug a lot easier to stomach thanks to your helpful website.

  • Mountain Lion (10.8) and Safari bugs

    Hello,
I want to chime in and list the bugs in Safari since my install of Mac OS 10.8.0
Java does not function as it should. It's buggy and generates errors, stops on errors and wont load data from some websites correctly.
My main concern centres around my work place and our use of IP video cameras to record people coming and going. We login to individual camera's on occasion to check streaming. 10.6.x and Safari never failed at this but 10.8 and the new Safari will load the first few frames of a stream and then the stream will halt. Investigation has pointed towards Java and a possible Safari incompatibilty. Google Chrome and Opera have similar issues, FireFox on the other hand works as it should.
We also use FileMaker Pro 12 to display some of our camera feeds (custom WebViewer windows) for a receptionist, which work great under 10.6.8 and it's underlying WEB Kit engine. Mac OS 10.8 fails on this front, loading a few frames of live content, with the stream freezing there after. This does not affect the functionality of FileMaker just the the live streaming from our camera's.
Any input from other readers would be of assistance.
p.s. A quick trip to a Genius Bar was futile as the rep had no knowledge of Mountain Lion, Java or Safari...

  • Parental Controls bug in Mountain Lion 10.8.2

For years I've used Parental Controls, not to restrict my daughter's web content, but to limit her time on the computer.  But tonight I upgraded Mountain Lion from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 and something broke.
Suddenly every secure web page she tries to access (to include google, gmail, amazon, etc.) fails.  It says "Parental controls restricts access to secure websites".
A little hunting around turned up the following Apple Knowledge Base article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2900 that says "https note: For websites that use SSL encryption (the URL will usually begin with https), the Internet content filter is unable to examine the encrypted content of the page. For this reason, encrypted websites must be explicitly allowed using the Always Allow list. Encrypted websites that are not on the Always Allow list will be blocked by the automatic Internet content filter."
I understand that logic however that should NOT apply to me since I'm not trying to automatically restrict her adult web content or create allowed/blocked site lists, etc.  She has *unrestricted* web site access, so the Internet content filter shouldn't even be in play here.
Just to get this up and running, I did type the Admin account and password in at the prompt to let her gain access to the web pages.  However that did not work.  Even though it said it would now allow access - it did not.
I also tried going into Parental Controls, turning ON web site filtering, going into Custom, and adding in approved secure web sites (google, etc.)  Even *that* did not work.
Everything was great until 10.8.2 came along but now her account is for all intents and purposes unusable.
    Help?  And thanks.

Same problem here. Apple seems to be neglecting the parental controls. First, they broke X11: http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/ticket/439. 10.8.1 didn't address that problem. Not only does 10.8.2 not address the X11 bug, it actually breaks secure web browsing!
Just to add a little more information, secure browsing on Safari seems to work OK for me once authorized. However, neither Firefox nor Chrome work with any secure site even after they have been authorized. Unfortunately, my daughter's school site is secure and it doesn't work on Safari so her Mac is useless for school now.
Looks like I'll have to restore using Time Machine and not update again until I know this has been addressed.
    Apple, I'm not impressed.
    Mike
