Hmm, "Use Adobe Reader" should launch the PDF outside of Firefox in the stand-alone Adobe Reader application, so seeing it in a tab is something of a puzzle.
Could you check your version of Adobe Reader? For Windows 7, you normally would have the Reader XI series (Reader 11), which has had several updates. From inside Adobe Reader, you can use Help > Check for Updates to make sure it's current.
In Firefox, could you check your Adobe Acrobat plugin version or possibly versions? You can view that on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. If you find multiple versions, this can cause problems and may need to be cleaned up manually (post back on that for suggestions).
Sometimes, the settings file which stores those download handler preferences becomes corrupted and there's not much else to do than to rename or remove that file and let Firefox rebuild it.
To do that, open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a new window (Windows Explorer window) listing various settings files.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''mimeTypes.rdf''' to something like mimeTypes.old
Start Firefox back up again and "PDF Files" should be back to their default setting of "Preview in Firefox". Try changing that to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" and test to see whether there's any improvement.

10.8.2 keeps repairing system folders which ruins my version of English.lproj. Does anyone have and suggestions to fix this?

I work for the Eastman School of Music's Computer lab. We are testing out Mountain Lion with the intention to move it in to our labs in December. Typically we create a user template by rsyncing our changes to the standard template to /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/. We use iHook to delete the Lab User when people log out, and when new people log in the template from /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/ is used to create the new Lab User. The problem is that Mountain Lion seems to have a self healing aspect to it so it removes the changes we make when we rsync. When our Lab User logs in now they get a default apple desktop instead of the one we create. We have a lot of apps that we want in the Dock and we need a way to keep our changes to the Lab User template.
Is it possible to make OSX 10.8.2 stop fixing our changes to /System/Library/User\ Template/English.lproj/? Or is it possible to get our labuser to call its information from another template that OSX 10.8.2 will not interfer with? Is there some kind of plist I should be looking for that controls where OSX directs its requestes for how to set up new accounts?

It turns out that the solution was right in front of my face. Our old script was wipeing out the caches from the computers. When I commented that out of the script everything went back to normal.

Because that site refers you to apps for smartphone devices. Not for your Mac.
Regardless of the Instagram website, v10.5.4 is an outdated version of Safari. You need to update your system software.
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
Restart your Mac after the updates are installed, then try Instagram on Safari.

Thanks for your message. You can custom set pages but there are no preset of page sizes like A4, A3, ect. I cannot click the size preference, nothing comes up

iMac is connected via wirelss to printer/scanner. All was working OK until update.

Assuming that the HP software is up-to-date, but still not working, have you tried Image Capture in the Applications folder. Does that work?

Why can't i open a pdf with adobe reader X

When am i not able to open the PDF with the Adobe Reader X, and also not able to choose it as programm for opening of the PDF. (Right click and "open program with", it's not possible to choose Reader, when i try nothing happens and it's not added to the program list)

I am having the exact same problem. This is very disturbing.
Lately I have been deluged with adobe update dialogues. I don't know whether this is real or some kind of bugus malware phenomenon.
Imagine my surprise when I looked here in the forum and I am not alone.
Kaufmann's remark that we shouldn't be using adobe reader doesn't explain why it is malfunctioning like this. I have been using the reader on Mac OS for years, and I don't get what's happening now.

Anyone else having trouble opening CMYK PDFs from Photoshop CC with JPEG 'high' compression?

When I save a PDF file in Photoshop CC in CMYK color with JPEG compression (quality = high), it will save without any errors. However, when I open the file in Acrobat (11.0.3), I get an "Out of Memory" pop up error. I press Ok, and the document is just displayed as a blank white image.
I'm using Win7 64-bit, Photoshop CC 64-bit. Plenty of memory (24GB) and allocated RAM in preferences, and I've done some troubleshooting that leads me to believe the error is not due to system memory, but rather a specific bug in the software. I have Photoshop CS6 on the same machine, and if I open the PSD, save as PDF with the above settings, everything is fine when I open it using Acrobat. This seems to just be for Photoshop CC, not CS6.
Here is the troubleshooting I've done so far:
PDF format, RGB color, any other settings --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, no compression --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [medium] --> Acrobat can open the file.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [high] --> Acrobat can NOT open the file because it encounters the "out of memory" error.
PDF format, CMYK, JPEG compression [maximum] --> Acrobat can open the file.
This is silly. I don't get it. Can anyone else confirm this problem for me?

Like you said, there isn't enough information to rule out an issue with Photoshop CC, as the same action using Photoshop CS6 results in a usable file.
New information (while making files for uploading):
The error only occurs with CMYK files of larger dimensions. On a 500x500px image, Acrobat throws out "A drawing error has occured". a 2500x2500px image runs into the "Out of memory" error. In either case, Acrobat cannot successfully open the file generated by Photoshop CC, while it can if it was made using Photoshop CS6.

Another observation for what it is worth (not a solution again). I was able to open all 3 PDFs in Irfanview as graphics. The properties of the image were
The major changes for the others within the JPegs was the number of pixels (133X133) and the size (1.4inX1.4in). There is also a reduction in the number of colors.
Just for information, I opened the big JPeg in Acrobat (9.5.5) and it opened fine. However, it looks like the color space was changed as shown below:
Even if I change the input to use CMYK and not RGB, it looks like it gets converted to RGB. I haven't spent time to figure out the preflight analysis properly, but at least this may give you some info back.

I can't open any .PDF already existing in my Mac and also can't open anything online throughout browser (I use Safari and Chrome)
I've already uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader over and over again and it has no improving.
I've tried to install an older version and still doesn't work.
All my problems started with the upgrade to Adobe Reader XI.
As you can imagine I really need to be able to open pdf through browser, that's my biggest concern.
