How can I transfer music not purchased on iTunes to my new computer from my iPod?

I recently got a new computer and wanted the music from my iPod on it. I have a ton of CD's so over half the things I have on my iPod aren't things I purchased from iTunes.
When I went through the process of transferring (it only gave the option to transfer purchases) there were no songs from any of my CDs.
I have tried everything I know how and still I have not found anything to actually help. I've backed it up and there is still nothing new in my iTunes.
Why can I not transfer items not purchased from iTunes to my new computer? How do I do this?
I would greatly appreciate it if you would put an answer in the simplest form possible as I am not very tech-savvy.
I would also like to do this simply and without downloading another program if at all possible.
I have a Windows 7 computer if that is of any help.

Unfortunately, unless you have a backup and can restore the iTunes library to the new computer, you are stuck with the current state of the iPod. This is one of those things that makes doing backups so important.
Unless your music is all purchased from iTunes (not from your own CD's that you imported into iTunes and then downloaded to the iPod), you will be able to re-download all your iTunes store music back to the iPod when you install iTunes on the new computer. When you first attach the iPod to the new computer and new iTunes the first time it will tell you that this iPod is synced with another iTunes library and let you initialize the iPod (which will erase everything on the iPod - so don't do this unless you don't care about the stuff on the iPod now).
I've seen 3rd party apps in the past that will let you copy music/content from iPod to computer and bypass iTunes, but not sure if they still exist as this was several years ago.

I upgraded my computer to 64bit. How can I transfer my Premiere Elements 8.0 (32bit) to new computer?

In October 2014, I purchased Adobe Premier Elements 8.0 (and the APE Templates 8.0) for my work computer (32bit Windows 7). Now they gave me a new computer which is 64bit (Windows 7). How can I get my Premier Elements program back on my new computer without having to purchase it all over again? I only had the program for a couple of months before they upgraded my computer to a 64bit I submitted my question through "Adobe Chat" and they said they couldn't help and I would need to check the forums. What did you have for installation...
a. installation files from a purchased download from Adobe
or
b. installation disc from boxed packaging of the product?
If you have an installation disc, then insert the disc into the burner tray and follow the instructions for the installation
that present sequentially. Remember that Premiere Elements 8 on Windows 7 64 bit is still going to be a 32 bit application.
It will be running in the 32 bit compatibility mode of the 64 bit computer and the 32 bit limitations would apply. But Premiere Elements
8 will install on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit but not as a 64 bit application.
Now if you purchased an download, those downloads are typically specific to the operating system to which it was downloaded.
Whether or not installation files downloaded to a 32 bit computer will work on 64 bit computer is questionable. Best advice is to
try it. You will get an immediate message from the computer and program if it is a no go.

I just recently had my hard drive replaced and lost all of my music and photos from it. I have all of my music and photos backed up onto my iPad and iPhone via iCloud.

If after researching the info in the other comments you still find that there is music that you would loose on the iPhone, there are 3rd party apps that can manage iPhone content without erasing the iPhone. Just search for a Windows alternative to iTunes.

How can I get songs not purchased on itunes off of my ipad2 and into itunes without using an external harddrive?

This has been a problem forever. I don't want to blank my devices and sync them. I just want to move files between them. It is a huge pain in a** that you can't just drag files around.
I have music from before ipods. It was put on an pc years ago that used to be linked to my current ipad2. All of my music is on the ipad2. that old pc has been reformatted and is now used as a workstation with only a few programs on it. I now have a new pc. I want my music on this pc. why am i not allowed to do this through itunes? why does syncing not take files on my ipad that aren't on my pc? why must i erase all of my data on the device in order to sync with itunes that has no data to sync?
All of the music i have purchased through itunes is fine. all of the apps are fine. what possible reason could there be for me not being permitted to take things that i own and put them on other things that i own?
I also have a new 5s. Why must i also erase this to put one friggin playlist on it?
Could i do this using an external hardrive? maybe. in an incredibly and overly laborious way. when the friggin files are right there. when i can look at them, and even play them through my pc from my ipad, but moving them over so i can put them on my phone.... **** no. the world would explode then.
The sync options should have a choice of putting all the combined data from both devices on both devices. I have absolutely no understanding of why in the year 2013 this is still a problem.

While I agree that it would be nice if it was easier to transfer media from your Apple devices they should never be used as the sole location for any of your media. Is there a way to transfer my non-purchases from my Ipod Touch back to my Itunes? My computer caught a virus and I had to reformatt the disk and of course like a fool didn't have anything backed up. if you still have your crashed computer get one of your techie friends to make your old hard drive into an external hard drive- they can get a sleeve for it from new egg or a supplier like that- you hook it up to your new computer, via USB connections, transfer the itunes folder to the new itunes folder in your new computer then import that folder into the itunes library on the internet site...........go to file then import folder and find your folder- mine was itunes music-

Music must be synced to the iPad using iTunes, so he will have to use a computer. Furthermore, if the music not purchased from iTunes is not in the iTunes library on the computer used and cannot be added from any source other than his iPhone, he will have to purchase and use 3rd party software such as Touch Copy (which will transfer this music from his phone to the iTunes library). (iTunes will only transfer non-purchased music from the computer to the iOS device, not vice versa.)

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything on the new computer.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases
