How to resolve the java.sql.SQLException: OALL8 is in an inconsistent state
Hi All,
I am getting the SQLException "java.sql.SQLException: OALL8 is in an inconsistent state." and in finally block while I am trying to execute another operation on the same database getting another exception "java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe".
I am using a connection from the connection pool configured in Oracle Application server. I am using the Oracle App server 10.1.3.4 and my database is Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0.
Any help in resolving this issue would really be appreciated.

Hi,
What version of the driver are you using? The "OALL8 is in an inconsistent state" exception usually indicates a problem in the protocol. When this exception occurs the protocol is broken and the connection can't be used anymore. I would suggest that you try using the 11.2.0.1 JDBC driver that you can download from:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/index.html

I thought the character encoding is failed and placed the charsets.jar,rt.jar,commons-i18n-0.4.jar in the deployed folder(Web-inf/lib). But still the exception is observed.

What version of the driver are you using? The "OALL8 is in an inconsistent state" exception usually indicates a problem in the protocol. When this exception occurs the protocol is broken and the connection can't be used anymore. I would suggest that you try using the 11.2.0.1 JDBC driver that you can download from:

How to make the java.sql.Datasource.setLoginTimeout method work
I have an EJB that gets a database connection. At the moment, if it can't get a connection, it waits there for 3 minutes, which is unacceptable. I would like to throw an exception or somehow limit the timeout period. When I found this setLoginTimeout method I thought my troubles were over. But no matter what I set it to, it still blocks and waits about 3 minutes.
I have tried this with MSSQL7 databases, and Sybase databases, using all the inet drivers available and also jConn52 driver (for Sybase). But with no luck (despite inet saying Opta supports this method)
Is it that no drivers yet support this method? If so, could you point me in the direction of some drivers (MSSQL7 and Sybase Server ) that support this method? Otherwise, could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

I did JDBC to SRM scenario. In that the incoming message is posted successfull to the SRM server. But in the acknowledgement message is not delivered to the sender. It gives an error message in the RWB. Its states that the field 'ADATE' contains no values. But when i check the XML payload in RWB it shows value in that particular field. the date format in the X and the Database table is correct both are in the same format as yyyy-mm-dd. But still its giving error messge. Help me to resolve this issue.

I am using 9.0.3 app server. I have a datasource with datasource class 'oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleConnectionCacheImpl' and JDBC Driver oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver.
Our oracle database gets restarted every night, so there will be some staled connections in the pool.. and when I use the application after the database is restarted I get the following error:

I am pretty sure that in 9.0.3 DriverManagerDataSource did not support stale connection checking. and I don't think OracleConnectionCacheImpl does either (at least there is no way through the config files).
The only option might be through code, i.e. your application checks for stale connections since there is some driver settings that you could modify through code. I would suggest posting your question in the JDBC forum and do mention that you are running on OC4J and is there a way in the driver that you could check for stale connections, through code.

I'm getting a java.sql.SQLException in the Bussiness Component Project Wizard. I made the connection using "Oracle JDBC Thin" and the connection works fine, then I click next to give the package name and when I click next again, I get the java.sql.SQLException runtime error and I don't see the user scott for which I created and tested the connection in the schema combo box of the next page in the "Buss Comp. Proj. WIZARD" wizard nor do I see any tables.
I also tried it with jdk1.3 support and it didn't work. jdk1.3 was installed succefully in jdeveloper because you can see in the about dialog box.
can someone please shed some light here. Whats weirder is that I'm following the same exampe in chapter 1 of the JDeveloper3 Handbook and thats about 40 dolloars down the drain.
My OS is Windows2000 server, I'm using JDeveloper 3.2

Web Service Error: java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe

I am using JDeveloper PL/SQL web service generator. After some time we start receiving the "java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: Broken pipe" exception when we invoke the web service. I've noticed that the error starts occuring once all the connections in the database have been closed.
Here are the Data Source configurations I tried using:

I don't use JDeveloper to develop stored procedure web services. However, I do use WebServicesAssembler.jar to generate stored procedure web services.
I had the same problem as you did. After some research in this forum, I was informed that it's a bug in the web services generator itself. I was also informed that the newest version of WebServicesAssembler.jar is supposed to fix the problem.
If you want, you can always write a batch job to restart the OC4J periodically. The command is
dcmctl -ct oc4j -co home
If I come across the posting containing the answer to your solution, I will forward it to you.

to build a BLOB. Essential this is what I do:

2: byte[] bytes = new byte[ length ];

4: result.putBytes( 1 , bytes )
the java.sql.SQLException happens as a result of line 4.

I am having a problem connecting to a remote SQL Server DB. I am using NetBeans 5.5 and the latest J2EE. I am able to see the tables in the IDE and bind objects to data. But when I run it it gets this:

Thank You."Connection refused" means that the client sends a packet saying "I would like to connect to port number NNNN please" to the server computer, and the server computer's OS sends the reply "there is no process listening to that port on the network interface you are using".
The database server is not running, or running but not listening to TCP/IP connections, or at a different port from what you think, or listening to only selected network interfaces (it is possible for a process to listen to a specific interface or a wildcard for all interfaces). A less likely scenario is that a firewall is sending the "connection refused" message.
First aid check list for "connection refused":
- Check host name in connect string.
- Check port number in connect string.
- Try numeric IP address of server host in connect string, in case name server is hosed.
- Are there any firewalls between client and server blocking the port.
- Check that the db server is running.
- Check that the db server is listening to the port. On the server, try: "telnet localhost the-port-number". Or "netstat -an", there should be a listening entry for the port. You need to configure the database to accept TCP connections; the server documentation or google should explain how.
- Try "telnet server-host-name the-port-number" from the client, to see if firewalls are blocking it.
- If "telnet" fails: try telnet with the numeric ip address.
- If "telnet" fails: does it fail immediately or after an obvious timeout? How long is the timeout?
- Does the server respond to "ping serverhost" or "telnet serverhost" or "ssh serverhost"? -
