Is it possible to set firefox to recreate the daily bookmarkbackup (json) file each time it close as opposed to once a day ?

From what I understand, Firefox create a daily backup of it's bookmarks in a .json file the first time it closes each day. We found that if a user has already closed Firefox in the present day (and the .json bookmarkbackup file is already created for the present day), it won't add to this file the bookmarks added later in the day at futures Firefox closes...
So if, for example, places.sqlite gets corrupted later in the day, all new bookmarks added after the first close (and creation of original daily backup) of Firefox aren't backuped...
Is there any way to set it so that each time it closes for the current day, it regenerate the daily backup of bookmarks with the lastest bookmarked pages?
Thanks

Note that a JSON backup is created when you start Firefox and not when you close Firefox.
You can make Firefox create an automatic HTML backup (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox if you set the browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML pref to true on the about:config page.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML
That backup is created by default in the profile folder as bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and path via the browser.bookmarks.file pref on the about:config page.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.file
The browser.bookmarks.file pref doesn't exist by default and you need to create a new String pref with the name browser.bookmarks.file and set the value to the full path of the backup bookmarks file.
Note: an HTML backup doesn't preserve tags and annotations, so you lose those if you need to import the HTML backup.

  • Is it possible to set an opening date for a password protected file

Is it possible to set an opening date for a password protected file!
I want to lock a folder and then have it open on a perticular date not just open with a password so that i am not tempted to open it. Is it possible?

Yes. Go to the Settings app, and select safari. There will be a section called "Autofill", and you can enable it to save your passwords and auto-fill your personal information taken from the address book. Also, iOS automatically saves all Wi-Fi passwords, so there is no need to save it manually yourself.

  • How can I set my time capsule to back-up only once a day?

How can I set my time capsule to only back-up once a day.  It appears to be backing up several times a day.  Not sure there is a set schedule for the back-ups and they take a great deal of time; over an hour each.

Then something is wrong.  Changing the schedule will only deal with the symptom (and give up one of the better features of Time Machine's usually quick and unobtrusive hourly backups).
See if the size of the backups makes sense, considering what you've changed since the previous one.  If it seems much too large, that may be the problem.  See #D4 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting for some common culprits and ways to see just what's going on.
If the sizes seem reasonable, see #D2 in the same link for things that can cause extra-slow backups.

  • How can I stop firefox from checking add-ons and displaying the What's new page each time I launch it

Since upgrading to the latest version, I have viewed read and interacted with everything on the What's new page. I have done this a number of times but the page is still opened each time I launch Firefox. In addition it shows my homepage in a second tab.
Prior to opening Firefox it checks for add-ons.

hello Michells, this will likely be caused by the user.js file in your profile folder.
go to the firefox ''menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information'', click on ''profile folder/show folder'' and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there delete the file named '''user.js''' and restart the browser afterwards.

  • The App Tabs are a great function but mine vanish each time I close Firefox. Why? Really just makes them act just like a regular tab then. Mac OS w/ Firefox 5.0.1

The App Tabs are a great function but mine vanish each time I close Firefox. Why? Really just makes them act just like a regular tab then.

Make sure that you use Firefox > Quit Firefox to close the window with the App Tabs and the Firefox application.<br />
If you only close the window and not Firefox then you need to use History > Recently Closed Windows.

  • I desperately would like to update Firefox to version 10 from version 9 but each time I try, I am stuck with FF10 checking addons for comparability and the Welcome page opening every time I start the browser.

    Windows 7 64 bit
I desperately would like to update Firefox to version 10 from version 9 but each time I try, I am stuck with FF10 checking addons for compatability and the Welcome page opening every time I start the browser. I continue to have to revert to version 9 to resolve this issue.

Sorry to be a while getting back! Tried all of that with no sucess so this AM, bit the bullet and deleted the FF folder from programs and downloaded and installed FF 10.01. Still was plagued with the same problem. Went into the appdata folder and there were two sessionstore.js files. Deleted them both, restarted the browser and no compatibility check for add-ons was done at start up and the extra tab for Welcome to FF was no longer opening Everything seems to be working as it should and I did not loose any of my settings.. Thank you for trying to help and I hope my solution helps anyone else who might experience this in the future. Here's hoping the next update goes smoother!

  • Firefox crashes or just freezes and each time I close it, I have to type all the websites again - it does not memorize them as the previous version did?

The latest version of Firefox looks great, but some new problems began appearing:
-sometimes it crashes or just freezes and nothing can be done, it just says Not Responding
-each time I close all the tabs I always put - Save option so that next time all the tabs are there, but with the new version I never get all the tabs from the previous session, but only the blank or home page?

Restart your computer and try again.
    Double check your AppleMenu()>System Preferences>Trackpad
    for all custom settings here.

  • Is there any way to set Firefox to remember history for a certain amount of time rather than all or nothing?

In previous versions, there was a choice to remember browsing history for a certain number of days, but in the current version the only choices seem to be to remember history or not remember history, with no way to customize in between. I don't want to have to clear my history and cache manually all the time, but I don't want it cleared every time I close my browser, either. Has the customization feature been removed entirely or am I missing something? And if it's been removed entirely, could it please be brought back? It's helpful for people who want their older browsing history to be deleted without deleting the entire history.

  • Firefox 34 never remembers passwords for sites, have to log-in to everything after each time I close browser

Was using Opera for a while, but really seems to be crashing alot lately so back to Firefox again for the 1st time in years (using whatever latest version is)
Seems no matter what options I check or uncheck in the settings, every single time I close Firefox it logs me out of all sites (FB, YT, email, Soundcloud, etc.) Been extremely annoying......I even took the time to try typing every site I wanted in the exceptions list for cookies, which did nothing at all....For the hell of it I tried the always remember history option with everything possible checked & still nothing...
Would appreciate any help, been driving me insane & sick of wasting my time re-entering passwords all day long
    Thanks

There are many ways that cookies might get cleared, including some Firefox features, Firefox add-ons, and some external privacy/utility software that sweeps up between sessions.
Within Firefox, you would want to double-check:
    (1) Not using automatic private browsing
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
This dialog should show either: "Firefox will: Remember history" or "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history". If it shows "Firefox will: Never remember history" then change to custom and uncheck the box for automatic private browsing.
    (2) Allowing persistent cookies
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
With the dialog set to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history", check that the cookie setting is:
    "Keep until: they expire"
If this is set to "Keep until: I close Firefox" then you would need to create exceptions for sites you want to be able to set persistent cookies (and then clear existing cookies so they get set again with the correct expiration dates).
    (3) Not clearing cookies at shutdown
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
With the dialog set to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history", check that either:
    * "Clear history when Firefox closes" is not checked, or
    * When you click the "Settings" button next to "Clear history when Firefox closes", the checkbox for Cookies is not checked
    (4) Not using extensions that clear cookies
You can review your extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
Does all of that check out?

  • Somehow firefox now opens with my windows mail. Each time I enter my password it asks if I want to save it so I don't have to retype my login and password each time. I hit yes and when I leave firefox it doesn't keep my password. I would like to either

I recently went to open my windows live mail, which normally opens because it has my login and password saved. Now it opens in firefox and I have to retype my login and password everytime I open my mail. I would like when I open my mail not to have to retype my login and password as this is why I have it set up in the original windows mail anyway. So I have attempted to live with this problem by adjusting the options to save my password and when I close out of firefox and try to reopen it later in the day I have to retype my login and password again.

  • How do I have App Tabs open on the 'original page' (i.e. not the last navigated to page') each time Firefox is closed and re-opened?

I need to have the App Tabs I have set 'start' on the original page I set them up on, each time I start the browser.
Anyone know how to do this?

Open a new window or tab. In the address bar, type '''''about:config'''''.
If a warning screen comes up, press the '''''Be Careful''''' button.
This is where Firefox finds information it needs to run.
At the top of the screen is a search bar. Enter '''''browser.newtab.url'''''
    and press enter. '''''browser.newtab.url'''''
tells Firefox what to show when a new tab is opened.
If you want, right click and select '''''Modify'''''. You can change the
setting to;<BR><BR>about:home (Firefox default home page),<BR>
about:newtab (shows the sites most visited),<BR>
    about:blank (a blank page),<BR>
or you can enter any web page you want.<BR><BR>
The same instructions are used for the new window setting, listed as
    '''''browser.startup.homepage'''''.
