Load data warehouse from non-Oracle database

Hi
I need to load a data warehouse (in a Oracle database 8.1.6) using Post Gree database tables.
The question is: Oracle Warehouse Builder can identify this database like a source module?
Or is better I generate txt files from Post Gree tables, load a staging database (in Oracle) with the same structure of POst Gree tables and after that, load my data warehouse?
Best Regards

You can identify Oracle sources from Oracle 7.3 and up. I.e. yes, you can directly go against the database and you do not need to extract into flat files.

  • Error while pulling data from an Oracle database. ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected

I'm trying to pull data from an Oracle database using SSIS. When I try to select a few fields from the source table, it returns the following error message:
[OLE DB Source [47]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "OraOLEDB"  Hresult: 0x80040E14  Description: "ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected".
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "OraOLEDB"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected".
The source columns are a combination of numeric and texts, and I've also tried selecting one of them, which didn't work. I'm using the Oracle client 11.2.0.1, and it works fine with any other data sources I have connected to so far. How can I resolve this
    error?

    Hi H.James,
According to your description, the issue is a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected while pulling data from an Oracle database in SSIS.
Based on the error message, the issue should be you are comparing a number column to a non-number column in a query. Such as the query below (ConfID is a number, Sdate is a date):
     where C.ConfID in (select C.Sdate
                       from Conference_C C
                       where C.Sdate < '1-July-12')
Besides, a default behavior for the Oracle OleDb Provider that change the NLS Date Format of the session to 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS can also cause the issue. For more details about this issue, please refer to the following blog:

  • Accessing non-oracle databases from oracle

Is there any way to access from oracle to non-oracle databases and copy the data using COPY command?

    Hi Nitin!
You can access these legacy applications as so-called external applications. Check out the Application Server Single Sign On guide.

  • Connecting to a non-oracle database (jdbc) from a java stored procedure

Does anyone know to configure the database to allow a connection to a non-oracle database from a Java Stored procedured, using JDBC?
    Thank you in advance,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I haven't tried it, and these are just some of my thoughts, but I
think you would need to load the JDBC driver for the other database
into the Oracle database (using the "loadjava" tool, of-course).
Then your java stored procedure should be able to instantiate the
third party JDBC driver and obtain a connection to the other database.
    Hope this helps.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • ClickOnce WinForms Application to retrieve data from an Oracle Database

I am hoping someone can help us.
We are trying to create a ClickOnce WinForms Application that will allow our Customer Service group to retrieve data from an Oracle Database.
We are currently able to use such a ClickOnce WinForms Application to allow our Customer Service group to retrieve data from SQL Server 2000 databases and even to a PICK Basic database. We use ole db drivers for these connections and keep the connection strings in a configuration file.
    Our primary question now is:
    1) What files would be needed on each client machine?
    Thanks for any pointers.
    :) Anne

    The problem has been fixed.
If you wanna to load data from Oracle DB,the connect String should be like this:
    cnss.open "Provider=OraOLEDB.Oracle.1;data source=orcl;User Id=fdmitf;Password=fdmitf"
besides, you should assign a value (True/False) to your function, as TonyScalese said in this post:
Import from RDB Fails with "Error:Import failed.Invalid data or Empty..."
Problem solved is always a great joy! Thanks!

  • How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory

How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory instead Of saving the data file to the Directory created on the Oracle Server ?
I require to design the Procedure which will pull the data from various tables and needs to store the data in the Client's local directory.

Since SQL*PLUS runs on the client, you can use SQL*PLUS to spool data to your local drive.
You could also use the database to write a a specified drive where all users have access to (mapped network drive, e.g.). I wouldn't recommend doing it that way, but it is sometimes useful when the files are created in some nightly batch run.

  • Loading data only from access

    Hi,
I just want to load data only from MS Access tables to oracle tables.I already have oracle tables. Can i do this with Oracle Migration workbench.
    Thanks

    Hi,
The Oracle Migration Workbench can be used to migrate table data from your MS Access to your migrated Oracle database schema. The data can be transferred either online, using the Migration Wizard of the workbench or offline using SQL*Loader scripts generated by the workbench, to copy data from the source database to your destination Oracle database.
You mention that you already have the Oracle tables. Did you use the migration workbench to migrate your Access MDB file to Oracle?
If so, then you can do the following to load your data into the Oracle database using the offline capture method:
    1. Use the Exporter for MS Access tool (omwb<version>.mde) to extract the data from your Access MDB file. This generates .DAT files containing the table data.
    2. Launch the workbench, pointing to the repository containing the source and oracle model information for your Access MDB file. This will be the repository you used during the initial migration of your Access database to Oracle.
    3. Select the Oracle Model tab, then select a user schema in the Oracle Model that you want to migrate the data to.
    4. Select the associated "Tables" node of the tree.
    5. From the "Objects" menu, select the "Generate SQL*Loader Scripts.
    6. Use the generated SQL*Loader scripts to load the Access data, contained in the .DAT files generated in step 1 above, into the Oracle database.
For further information on the steps outlined above, please refer to Chapter 6 Migration the Database of the Oracle Migration Workbench User's Guide, specifically
section "Transferring the Data Offline". The User's Guide can be obtained in the /omwb/docs/usersguide folder of your omwb installation, or via the Help | User's Guide of the workbench.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Hilary

  • Connectivity to non-Oracle database sources

I have information on a seperate MS Sql Server that I would like to create a connection in OWB to connect to.
In one of the tutorial is mentions connections to a "non-Oracle database".
Does anyone have the process of how to connect from OWB to SQL Server that resides on a different server?
    Thanks,

On what platform (operating system) you installed OWB control center (target database) - Windows or Unix?
In case of Unix look at this thread
Re: SQLServer access from AIX Warehouse builder
If you use Windows configuration will be simpler (all steps should be performed on server with target database/OWB Control Center).

  • XML Publisher with Non Oracle databases

    Hi,
Can we use XML Publisher with non oracle databases like Postgres ,mySQL etc.

    Hi
Not sure if you're talking Apps or non but you can do it equally with both. Check out the Data Engine in the user guide and look for Distributed Queries. XMLP will need a jdbc connection to the db but you can then pass a query and get XML back.
You can even write one query to pull back say customers from Oracle and their invoices from MySQL, you'll get a merged data set back with a master detail relationship btw customers-invoices

  • How to import a table from another oracle database ?

    Hi all ,
i could like to use pl/sql to import one table from another oracle database server ?
is it possible to do this ?

if i don't have TEST table on server B whether COPY command will create this table on server B with the same structure ? If you specify CREATE as a clause the table will be created:
    SQL> help copy
    COPY
COPY copies data from a query to a table in a local or remote
database. COPY supports CHAR, DATE, LONG, NUMBER and VARCHAR2.
    COPY {FROM database | TO database | FROM database TO database}
                APPENDCREATE|INSERT|REPLACE} destination_table
[(column, column, column, ...)] USING query
where database has the following syntax:

I am using Visual Studio 2013, .net framework 4.5, entity framework 5.0 and oracle 11g database.
Issue Description: I need to develop WCF service to exposing the account information which needs to get the data from 20 oracle tables. Trying to create entity model from existing oracle database. first i tried creating just two tables it
was created but it took more than 30 minutes. then i selected remaining few tables it took more than a days but nothing created just showing spinning the wheel. then i tried with fresh project and selected all the tables but same issue nothing created and
also there is no error. during this process i checked database query monitoring there is a big sql statement collection tables metadata. i don't know what was wrong the query taking too much time to complete the  process.
we tried multiple machine and different oracle database all are same issue.
Sql server database -looks good no issues.
Any help/tips/ideas welcome to overcome this issue.

    Hi Sakthimp,
    Welcome to MSDN forum.
Your issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as
WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
Because your issue only occurred with oracle database, moreover Oracle developed the Entity Framework for Oracle itself, I suggest that you can consult your issue on Oracle forum/community:
you will get better solution and support there.

  • Can Jdeveloper Be Used For Non-Oracle Databases

I have been trying to evaluate Jdeveloper 9i and Jbuilder 7 Enterprise for Swing database development. I am particularly interested in the productivity enhancements such as BC4J and Jclient. The underlying database might be Oracle, SapDb (excellent, easy to use, and free), SQLServer, etc.
I evaluated Jbuilder Enterprise tools and it worked flawlessly with SapDb. This emphasized using their DataExpress and DbSwing components which provide many useful capabilities similar to BC4j and Jclient. It also involved using their DBPilot tool which allows browsing similar to that provided via a Jdeveloper connection.
I tried to use Jdeveloper for the same SapDB and it is essentially non-functional. I followed the instructions for using a non-default driver and tried to define a connection. It behaved inconsistently: often saying no suitable driver can be found and yet when you edit the connection and test without making any changes, it works. If you try to establish a BC4J definition, it is very inconsistent and fails to recognize important details as foreign keys. Even if you define a ViewLink manually, it still does not work properly if you attempt to define a Master-Detail Jclient form. As I have stated, all these types of capabilities worked flawlessly in their Jbuilder equivalent. Furthermore, I really like the fact that Jbuilder gives many of BC4Js benefits without needing a BC4J J2EE container.
Has anyone had real success using Jdeveloper's advanced features to develop for non-Oracle databases and if so, how did you get around these types of problems?

    Hi,
generally, SCAN can be used for 10g databases and you discovered the first half: for 10g databases you will have to modify the REMOTE_LISTENER entry for each 10g database instance to point to the SCAN listeners (as opposed to pointing to the remote local listeners, which is the default in 10g). You could even have the databases registers themselves with SCAN and the remote listeners, if you wanted to... It's more or less a matter of configuration. But for simplification reasons, I will stick to the case where you have your 10g databases register with the SCAN listeners only.
Now the other half is the client and the client configuration. An 11g Rel. 2 client configured for RAC would have a TNSNAMES entry that has only one address line for the RAC databases. The host entry in this one address line should point to the SCAN (the SCAN name is ideally resolved in DNS). A 10g client configured for RAC would have as many address lines in the TNSNAMES as you have nodes in the cluster.
The 10g client SCAN configuration would then be in the middle so to speak: You would have 3 address lines in your TNSNAMES, in which each host entry would resolve to one SCAN address (I assume you will use the recommended default of 3 SCAN IPs). If you choose, you can have a name resolution for each of your SCAN IPs, but this would not be required. Now, why would you do it this way? Because this configuration will always work and does not make you dependent on certain functionality that your DNS server may or may not offer.
For the remaining questions: SCAN is a DNS entry resolving one name to more than one (typically 3) IP addresses. OID is short for Oracle Internet Directory, which is a complete LDAP server. And you are right that there is no document how to configure 10g clients for SCAN from Oracle yet. However, there is a quite good document on SCAN on otn.oracle.com/rac, but I am sure you are aware of it already.
    Hope that helps. Thanks,
    Markus
