hi,,,when i want to restore database from a .bak file i see this error

You need to install SQL Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 2
Download
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=11093, you are currently running the RTM and the backup was from Version 10.50.4000 and your attempting to restore to version 10.00.1600.
To find your current SQL Version open a New Query and paste the following then execute

Yes there can be difference and impact there are few features deprecated in SQL Server 2012 you must be aware about that. Please see

After you migrate database to 2012 please don't move ahead with production unless you have tested your application to new created database

Resore SQL server 2008 SP3 database to SQL server 2008 R2 SP1

I have a dump from a SQL server 2008 SP3 server and I'm trying to restore it to SQL server 2008 R2 SP1 server but getting the error:
Msg 3241, Level 16, State 0, Line 2
The media family on device 'E:\Work\backup.bak0' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.
Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 2
RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally.
Are these versions incompatible or is it just a problem with the file? If they are incompatible, I could upgrade my target server to SQL server 2008 R2 SP2, would this help?
The exact version info is as follows:

SQL server 2008 SP3 is technically a lower version than 2008 R2 SP1
but it was released after it.
The service packs release date don't matter, only the major+minor build versions are important; restore should work in your constellation.
During FTP transfer the file could be damaged, that's possible. The backup file could be also "blocked" by OS because it was download from a different server; then you have to unblock it like every other download file.

I'm newie in working with RMAN and I have problem with restoring database from backup set in my testcase.
I've restored controlfile, but I couldn't restore database - it fails with:

I can successfully crosscheck backup sets (by command crosscheck backup), but I couldn't restore database.

Moving an existing SQL Express Database to SQL Server 2008 (included in SBS2011) help!

I have software that uses SQL 2005 right now, but the database is close the max size (4 GB). I have SBS2011 installed and it includes SQL 2008 and SQL 2008R2. I want to move the database to the 2008 version that can that can handle larger databases.
I'm not an SQL expert, but have some experience with it. What I need are some directions on how to make this change without causing any problems with the system, including setting up the SQL server so it will have all the same settings as the old one.
This is a practice management software.

Hi,
I think you can upgrade SQL Server 2005 to later version of SQL Server rather than moving the existing database to another SQL Server instance.
Upgrade SQL Server 2005 SP2 Express to SQL Server 2008 R2 Express and SQL Server 2005 SP4 SQL Server 2012 Express. And you will have maximum 10 GB per database.
Make sure that your operation system is compatible with SQL Server
version which you want to upgrade to. For more information, see:

It is possible to backup and restore the database on another instance and modify the database path in the software.
You need to test it in your test environment first before making changes in the production environment.
In addition, you need to consult with the software developer and see if there is any potential issue.

Another Error in Initializing Database in SQL Server 2008 R2

I am working with ABAP Proxy to Rec JDBC( Integrating XI with MS SQL Server 2008 R2). I am using SAP PI 7.0
I am getting error in RWB at communication channel monitoring :

Can you please tell me from where we will exact this .jar file, bcoz we have search lotzz but we helpless.

Error 18452 "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication" on SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition 64-bit SP2 clustered instance

Hi there,
I have a Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise x64 SP2 cluster which has 2 SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition x64 SP2
instances.
A domain account "Domain\Login" is administrator on both physcial nodes and "sysadmin" on both SQL Server instances.
Currently both instances are running on same node.
While logging on to SQL Server instance 2 thru "Domain\Login" using "IP2,port2", I get error 18452 "Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication". This happened in the past
as well but issue resolved post insatllation of SQL Server 2008R2 SP2. This has re-occurred now. But it connects using 'SQLVirtual2\Instance2' without issue.
Same login with same rights is able to access Instance 1 on both 'SQLVirtual1\Instance1' and "IP1,port1" without any issue.
Please help resolve the issue.

I Confirm that I encountred the same problem when the first domain controller was dow !!
During a restarting of the first domain controller, i tried to failover my SQL Server instance to a second node, after that I will be able to authenticate SQL Server Login but Windows Login returns Error 18452 !
When the firts DC restart finishied restarting every thing was Ok !
The Question here : Why the cluster instance does'nt used the second DC ???

Permission denied when creating database in Sql Server 2008 for SQLExpress

I'm getting an permission error while restoring the database. I'm using SQL Server 2008 SQLEXPRESS
I'm able to create the user using this script " CREATE LOGIN [darth\vader] FROM WINDOWS;
GO;"
But when I try to give role to the user it's still give me permission error.. SP_ADDSRVROLEMEMBER ‘darth\vader’, ‘sysadmin’
Can someone guide me how to resolve this issue?

Creating dynamic database connection (SQL server 2008) from Adf application

Hello,
I am creating an ADF Fusion Application. I use Jdev. 11.1.2.3.0 , WebLogic 10.3 and MS SQL server 2008 database. My question is that how can I create a database connection configuration file, now I connect to the database through hard coding, there should be a way to do this with sql server I think.
my database name is : testDatabase
my database username is : testUser
my database password is : testPassword
Anybody can help me please.

The database schema is the same for all the users, but the location of the database differs, for example: I have set the hostname of the database to localhost because the database is installed on the local pc, but to other clients the database is installed on a managed server so in the hostname I should put the server's ip address or name. So I need an external file where I can set these options.

What is version of you SQL server express if it is 2008 and above you can use Import export wizard to move data.You can do by backup also but if your requirement is just to move data use Imp export wizard see below link

I have an mdf file of sql server 2005 database now i want it to attach in sql server 2008 R2 but when i try to attach it, it gave me error saying.
Fail to retrieve data for this request.
An exception occur while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.(Microsoft.sqlServer.connectionInfo)
C:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\file6.mdf is not a primary database file. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error:5171)

As the message says the file is not primary data file ,i guess it must be ndf(secondary data file) or some other file you might have selected by mistake.PLease select primary data file and try attching you will succed
