Transitions between external swf

I borrowed some code to create menu transition swfs in which
as a button is pushed, it will look to see if the current swf is at
midframe and if so, play the exiting animation of that swf and then
load and play the intor for the swf for that button selection (hope
that makes sense).
However, I have enhanced my swf files to have a number of
stop actions for submenu items for that catagory so the swf does
not automatically just play to the midframe and stop. Is there a
way that I can modify the code so that if the swf is not at
midframe yet, I can have it "gotoandplay" midframe if that makes
sense?
Here's the code:
on (release) {
if (_root.currMovie == undefined) {
_root.currMovie = "OrangeAll";
container.loadMovie("OrangeAll.swf");
} else if (_root.currMovie != "OrangeAll") {
if (container._currentframe >= container.midframe) {
_root.currMovie = "OrangeAll";
container.play();
Thanks,
Dave

what is the script that you have on the buttons on the bottom
of the page that are supposed to load the new content? I think it
may have something to do with your lockroot.

  • Seamless transitions between externally loaded movie clips

    I'm building a flash player that loads various movie clips in succession  depending on user input. The player should continue to play seamlessly  when one clip ends and another starts playing, however there is always a  slight noticeable delay between the COMPLETE event for one clip and the  actual playing of the next clip. I am using the FLVPlayback component to  load the video clips, with successive clips loaded in different players in the component.
    I've tried playing the next video a short duration before the current video finishes by adding a cue point just before the end of the currently running clip (about 200 - 300 ms before the end). This improves matters somewhat, but it is not a reliable method as the timings are different for different browsers and computer specs.
    I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with smooth  transitions between external video clips and could suggest possible  optimizations I could use to improve the transitions.

    Thank you for replying.
    The video clips basically continues the same shot only with different directions, so I can't fade out between transitions. It needs to appear as though it's playing a single video clip in that respect (a one-shot scene).
    Another major issue is that there is music playing for each video which should continue playing without interuptions. Even a small gap is noticeable with audio. I thought about separating the audio and video streams but that could mean they could go out of sync as the more transitions occur.

  • Trying to properly code a menu with buttons that can go back and forth between external swf files

    I have a project I've been working on that, when properly coded, has a "main menu" with 4 "doors" (buttons). When the corresponding buttons to these "doors" are clicked, it should go to and play an external .swf file. If that doesn't make sense, think of a DVD menu. You click play movie, it plays the movie. When the movie is over, there's two buttons on that swf file to either play the movie over or go back the main menu, which is an external .swf file (Remember, we go to the movie from the menu, which is a seperate file). So far, the buttons work. The menu works. However, from the movie, at the conclusion, when I click the button to go back to the main menu, it displays the movie clip and the buttons, but none of the buttons work. I'm starting to think it has to do with the fact the main menu was written in AS3 and the movie was made in AS2. If anyone can assist me in being to able to keep both files and still navigate between the two, being able to bring up the menu from the movie and be able to play the movie again, and so on and so on, that'd be GREAT. I'm somewhat of a noob to Flash, but I learn quickly and I'm open to any suggestions. Here's the code for main menu, which I guess acts as the parent file, and the movie. If I get this to work, I essentially would duplicate the same actions for the other 4 doors, once I complete the environments for them. Thanks
    Main.Fla/Swf (written in AS3)
    (This is the action on the first frame, that has all the buttons. For this question, I'm just trying to properly code for 'Door4', which is the "door" to the movie.)
    import flash.display.Loader;
    stop();
    var myLoader1:Loader=new Loader ();
    Door4.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, jayzSwf);
    function jayzSwf(myevent1:MouseEvent):void
              var myURL1:URLRequest = new URLRequest("jayzspeaks.swf");
              myLoader1.load(myURL1);
              addChild(myLoader1);
              myLoader1.x = 0;
              myLoader1.y = 0;
    Movie.Fla/Swf (written in AS2)
    (This is action on the button that returns to the menu)
    on (release) {
              this.createEmptyMovieClip("container",this.getNextHighestDepth());
              container.loadMovie("main.swf");

    At least you're going in the correct (mis)direction. You have AS3 loading AS2. So that's not a huge hurdle.
    I believe all you really need to do is send your Main.swf a signal that the content it loaded (e.g. jayzspeaks.swf) is done and you want to get rid of it.
    The code I pointed you to asks you to (upon download and import then) instantiate it in both AS2 and AS3. They give a very simple easy to understand line of code.
    // as2, load this in jayzspeaks.swf
    var myBridge:SWFBridgeAS2 = new SWFBridgeAS2("connectionID", clientObj);
    // as3, load this in main.swf
    var myBridge:SWFBridgeAS3 = new SWFBridgeAS3("connectionID", clientObj);
    Make sure the connectionID matches between them. Set it to whatever you want.
    When you're done with your as2 loaded content you'd send a signal (over localconnection) back to the AS3 Main like they say:
    myBridge.send("someFunctionToUnloadContent");
    myBridge.close();
    You'd need to make the as3 function "someFunctionToUnloadContent()" (example purposes only name) and it should unload the jayzspeaks.swf that was loaded in the loader.
    Make sure you get that close in there so you don't drill up a bunch of localconnection objects just like the simple source code says.

  • Loading an external SWF from an external SWF

    Hello,
    I'm somewhat caught between a rock and a hard spot on a flash
    site project. Here is the situation:
    I have created a parent movie (which loads all external SWFs
    inside of it) that has the menu navigation built into it. However,
    my client wants me to place some more links inside of the external
    SWFs that lead to other pages (external SWFs) of the site. Is this
    at all possible? I was hoping there is a way to tell a button in an
    external SWF to make the parent movie switch between external SWFs.
    Any and ALL help is very much appreciated. Thank you.
    Another question: does this involve using the _parent script?
    Elijah

    Hello,
    Thank you for replying. Here is exactly what I'm needing to
    do:
    We will call the parent file "index.swf". Inside "index.swf"
    I have a "holder" for external swf files to load into when I call
    on them from the main menu buttons on "index.swf". When a customer
    comes to the site, the "index.swf" file initially loads
    "welcome.swf". Inside of "welcome.swf", I have some images that I
    want to make into links to other external swf files.
    My problem is when someone clicks on one of those pictures I
    want the "index.swf" file to open up the corresponding external swf
    file in its "holder", where "welcome.swf" currently resides. Also,
    all of these swf files ("index.swf" included) have stand-alone FLA
    files, none are attached to one another. I have never worked with
    "levels" before, would that be necessary in this case? I have
    attached the code for the external swf loader.
    I hope that gives you a better idea of what I'm trying to
    accomplish.
    Thanks again.

    your isse begins here ..
    loadSection()
    you use the same loader to not only load files but you are tyring to use it to target the movieClip you also want to play.
    The issue is loader.  The loader can only reference one load at a time.. otherwise you screw up your listeners and the ability to unload files properly.
    You should load all files in Your current system as its own variable so that while one loads you can still control a movie.
    So what type of end transitions do your files have?
    What exactly with this seems like youre getting an issue.. looking at it looks alright aside from the fact that some methods are not used at all by your class

  • Need smoother transitions between .swf's

    I have a website I am doing that has a flash intro with
    music. I then have the site itself which is also designed in flash.
    These 2 swf files sit on 2 different .html pages with an action
    that tells one frame to go to the next "page".
    My client whats it to be a smoother transition, almost like
    its going within the same .swf fles. I tried to save the flash .fla
    and just importat and try to figure it out how to import the
    intro.swf file into my main flash site and to just add it at the
    beginning. Bu this didn't work either...

    Try using a fade-in or a fade-out
    located in transitions
    between the pics
    play with the timing of the fade
    this helps between all pics
    but adds alot of time to the movie.

  • Communicating between two external swfs

    Okay, I have two external swfs that load into a main movie
    (at separate times). Currently there is a button in external A that
    tells the main timeline (_level0) to load in external B to _level1.
    However, I also need external B to load in a specific thing. How
    can I do that? I've tried this:
    in external A:
    button.onRelease = function (){
    _level1.myMovieClipLoader.loadClip(_level1.myArray[0],
    _level1.myMovieClip);
    }

  • Differing behavior loading external swfs between Linux and Windows

    I have a swf that loads several different swfs that implement the same basic class, some of these external
    swfs also import different resources from library swfs, such as font, video, and graphic assets.
    This seems to work perfectly well on both windows and Linux with using the font and graphic assets in
    the flash player (debug v 10r32), everything works as I'd expect.  I am added everything into the main swf's
    appdomain when using the loader (with loadercontext, etc).
    When I am loading the video asset class in the external swfs, it works fine on both systems for the first swf
    loaded that uses the video class.  On windows, whenever the second swf using the video library loads up, it
    gives a #1065 Reference error pointing to one of the variables used in the video asset swf.  It runs fine on Linux.
    I've tried playing around with the different AppDomain settings to no avail.  I am stumped as to why it would
    function perfectly well in Linux, but fail on Windows.  Any pointers as to where to look next?
    Thanks for any and all help,
    RP.

    In this case, it appears to be differing versions of the flexsdk that was being used to compile the application.
    Windows was using the default tarball from the adobe site,
    Linux was using a more up to date version from svn.
    I updated the svn snapshot, recompiled, set the Windows box to use it, and the error messages have disappeared.
    I can still crash the flashplayer doing other things, but it's more or less working exactly as expected now.

  • External swf troubles

    Here's the skinny. I created a VERY simple site, main page,
    one button, and a second page with samples. Each sample is an
    external .swf with a fade in and fade out for nice transitions
    between each sample.
    If I go to the samples page and click on a number the
    external .swf loads fine for each, but if I click 'home' then try
    the same process there is a failure and no external .swf's will
    load.
    Once I leave the samples page I cant go back without it
    failing.
    Im sure its something simple, but does anybody have any
    suggestions?
    Here's my code for loading the external .swf for each sample:
    stop();
    one.onRollOver = over;
    one.onRollOut = out;
    one.onRelease = goone;
    function over () {
    this.gotoAndPlay(2);
    function out () {
    this.gotoAndPlay(7);
    function goone () {
    if (_root.currMovie == undefined) {
    _root.currMovie = "sampleone";
    container.loadMovie("sampleone.swf");
    } else if (_root.currMovie != "sampleone") {
    if (container._currentframe >= container.midframe) {
    _root.currMovie = "sampleone";
    container.play();
    Thank you to anyone that can help!

    My main page has one button on it. 'photo retouching' . When
    clicked it takes you to a new frame that has 6 buttons on it, 1
    through 6. there is a blank mc in the upper left corner that is
    used as a container. when you click a button it loads the external
    swf, when you click a new button the current sample fades out, and
    a new one fades in. below there is a home button. if i click that I
    go back to the main page with the 'photo retouching' button on it.
    if i click that, regardless of what sample was the last to be
    viewed, it takes me to the samples page with a blank mc used as a
    container and 6 working buttons.
    so the jump from frame to frame is fine, but Is the last
    viewed sample supposed to stay loaded?
    (the container is only located on the single frame of my
    timeline that holds the samples page, does that matter at
    all?)

  • How can I get a preloader to launch a main (external) swf file, and have the main file remove the preloader once it's fully loaded?

    Using Flash MX, ActionScript 2:
    I’ve been struggling for several weeks, trying to get a preloader to work on a large (~80 MB) photo portfolio file (using the method where the preloader is on frame 1 of the file, and when loading is completed, it jumps to the content).  I’ve done countless tutorials, and none seem to work on my presentation.  I even tried downloading a trial version of CS4 so I could export every one of the file’s library movie clips and images so that they load on Frame 2 (a feature MX doesn’t have).  It takes about 20 seconds for the .exe to load from a CD, and no matter which preloader construction I use, it always seems to appear in the last few seconds before the movie loads completely.  During the initial wait time, there’s no indication that anything is happening:  no hourglass on the mouse, and not even a blank screen. This is only true for the first time that the file is loaded from the CD; on subsequent loads, the file must already be in RAM, because it loads within a few seconds.
    I decided that I’m going to try and make the file which the user clicks on (one named Windows_Portfolio.exe or another called Mac_Portfolio.hqx) the preloader so that it would be tiny, and would load instantly.  I want that file to launch the external huge portfolio file (renamed files.swf), keep track of its loading progress, and cycle through a slideshow (10 thumbnail images that transition into each other over 100 frames) proportionally, based upon the percentage of files.swf that had been loaded.
    I assume that there should be a loadMovie() or a loadMovieNum() command on the preloader’s timeline to launch files.swf, and that the initial code of files.swf should have some sort of this._parent._visible=false or other way of deleting the preloader on level0.  Can anyone explain the steps to me, or direct me to a good Flash MX tutorial that explains how to launch another external swf from a preloader .exe, keep track of its load progress, and delete the preloader .exe once the external swf had been loaded?
    Also, I’ve read that, using this construction on a CD, every file has to be in the same place, and that I can’t nest files.swf in a folder named “files,” and reference it with files/files.swf.  Is this true?
    Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

    If you know JavaScript (ECMA Script) then you might be able to get it done applying a for loop and a random function
    to the for loop if you know how to get a page-loaded request into JavaScript.
    But an easier solution, if you know ActionScript 3.0, and if your SWF's don't need to be recoded and can load into a "container" SWF would be to create a master FLA file that loads your SWF's in a random fashion using Math.random() as a multiplier, though you won't see much variation if you only have 2-3 SWF's to load--if you had more than that then you would begin to benefit from the random function's capabilities.  In ActionScript 3.0 use the load() method along with addChild() to load the SWF and add it to the stage.  You will be able to search for specifics on how to code the FLA properly by using Flash's Adobe Help tool and also using an internet search.
    -markerline
    P.S. Once you have the master FLA coded you can Publish it to an SWF and an HTML and if the container/master SWF needs to be in a page with other content you can simply copy and paste the object and embed tags for the container SWF from the published HTML into any place on your master HTML that you need it to reside.  You can then use CSS to control placement of the SWF object if it is in a div tag.

    in the swf itself that triggers its removal in its last frame. The
    following might work...
    MovieClip(this.parent).removeChild(this);
    Unfortunately I couldn't get this to work. I placed it on the
    last frame of the SWF to be called - is that right?
    I am not sure I am doing it correctly...

  • Problem with volume handle and external SWF

    Hello I'm having 2 problems.
    The first is that when loading an external swf in my main SWF I get this in the output window:
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at audio_fla::list_1/frame1()
    at flash.display::Sprite/constructChildren()
    at flash.display::Sprite()
    at flash.display::MovieClip()
    at audio_fla::MainTimeline()
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at audio_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
    But it still works. Its an mp3 player.
    The other problem is that the loaded SWF has a volume controller. When I test the external SWF by itself it works fine. When I load it on my main SWF when I start to drag the handle on my volume slider and MOUSE_UP outside the handle it still keep dragging the handle.
    The code of my main SWF is:

  • Need help loading an external SWF

    I'm not very proficient in Flash, so any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to load an external SWF with the following code:
    T1_Bttn_BloodCar.onRelease = function() {
    t1_images_mc.loadMovie("images/T1_Gallery/BloodCar_SWF/T1_BloodCar.swf");
    t1_images_mc._alpha = 0;
    It loads the SWF, but doesn't play it correctly when I test it. Here's how the loaded movie is supposed to look:
    http://www.theroboteye.com/T1_BloodCar.html
    But instead, it plays without the transitions, like this:
    http://www.theroboteye.com/TRE2009b.html
    I've been trying to figure this out for a few days and have tried adding "this._lockroot = true;" to the SWF I'm trying to load, but I can't get it to play correctly. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

    Try using the MovieClipLoader class (loadClip method) instead of the loadMovie method.  That way you can have a listener that waits for the movie to be loaded and then pull it into play, assigning actions and properties to it after the fact.

  • Loading an external .swf into an empty container

    I'm loading an external .swf into an empty container.
    Everything seems to work fine except when the .swf is loaded both
    seems to be running extremely sluggish. The button rollovers are
    slow, the page transitions..everything. I can't figure out why it
    is doing this. Both .fla's have the same frame rate. Is there some
    known reason why this might happen?

    well, we've tried that and it is actually a little bit worse.
    Normally i test everything in a browser window anyway. I'm thinking
    it might be a naming issue of some variable or something that is
    the same for both fla's....not sure yet though.

  • AS3 Unloading external SWF piling up problem

    I have two buttons on main SWF what loads and Unload two external SWFs back and forth.
    Also one timer function is calling external Screen saver SWF and unload the existing one when no interaction found.
    I am using unloadAndStop() function to unload the external SWFs.
    But after loading and unloading external SWFs, I am facing piling up or stack overflow problem.
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
