Write to XML File crashes when multiple Timed Loops present

Hello All,
It took me forever to track this bug down.
In this project we can edit operating parameters on the Host and send them down to an RT program in a cRIO-9025. The data is converted to XML and stored on the cRIO's disk.
Occasionally, the RT program would lock up and had to be rebooted.
It turns out that if you use Timed Loops , then a Write to XML File (or presumably any file write) will not return.
Attached is an example. This has 5 loops to make it crash faster, but it will eventually crash with only 2.

Hello Chris,
I know that Write to XML File fails because I put in debug code in my actual program, a flat sequence which updated an indicator, and after the crash, the indicator had not updated.
Yes, I know that it replaces the file. It's a configuration file, not data gathering. This is just an example of the bug.
FYI,
I increased the period for the loop with the file save to 500msecs and it still crashed.
I then decreased it to 50 msecs, and replaced all of the other Timed loops with While loops and it does not crash, even though the file save takes much longer than 50 msecs, average ~150msecs.
I replaced the loop with the file save with a While loop while leaving the others as Timed loops and it does not crash.
So the bug is systemic and related to a file save in a Timed Loop when there are other Timed Loops.
I'm not looking for a solution, I'm only reporting a bug in Labview. The solution is not to use Timed Loops, especially, as you point out, when there is file saving. It cost me several days of dicking around to figure it out. Maybe someone can save some time if they find this.

  • No XML file attachment when using Submit by Email button

    Hello all -
    I'm using LiveCycle Designer 8.0 to create a simple form, and am using the Submit by Email button to return the user supplied data. When I save the form and test it with Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.1, the email goes through just fine, but there is no attachment. No XML file, no nothing. Just a blank email with my signature block at the bottom. Has anybody else experienced this? Any ideas on what could be wrong? All I want is the XML file.

    You have multiple options to sending whole PDF format.
    1) Set the submit button to submit whole PDF format by using a mailto: [email protected] in the submit button action URL.
    2) Set the submit button to fire a javascript that submits whole PDF format. See Adobe's Javascript reference guide for instructions.
    Note: Methods #1 and #2 require Adobe Acrobat or Extended Reader Rights; because, Adobe Reader users are restricted to submitting just the data formats; such as FDF,XML, XFDF, XDP, and HTML. Beware extending reader rights to a PDF form using Adobe Acrobat places end user EULA restrictions, such as not more than 500 end user submissions for each form.
    My Recommendations:
    #3) Set the submit button to point to a URL of a server-side script; such as ASP.net. Then set the format to a data format; such as FDF, XML, XFDF, or XDP; and use ASP.net and iTextSharp (Free) to merge the data with a blank PDF form; and attach the submission to an outbound SMTP mail message and send without 3rd party email software such as MS OUTLOOK.
    #4) A combination of #1 and #3; where you enable usage rights on the PDF using Adobe Acrobat; and send to a server-side script which bypasses client-side email software.
    Check out the following website for online examples that submit to a server side script:

  • How Do I write an XML file using Java?

    Hello there!! to everyone reading my post.
    I have this project I need to do, and I have no clue where to start, I was wondering if you guys could help me out.
    I need to know how to write an XML file using a Java Program, but without using a Third party library.... just using java native APIs.
    I will probably take the values to construct the file from a form.
    I will certainly appreciate if you could post some sample code for me.
    Thank you very much in advance..

    Hello there!,
    I have some doubts about the Tutorial I am currently reading. correct me If I'm wrong, but the section "Write a simple XML file" teaches you how to do so using a text editor. I need to create my XML file from a running Java Program written by myself, that takes the values to build it from some variables.
    If I'm totally wrong about what I'm saying, could you please point me to where I can find the information of how to do what I'm asking for, inside the tutorial.
    Thank you very much,...
    sincerely.

  • Limited sampling rate with multiple timed loops

    I am trying to use two timed loops.  The first timed loop is supposed to acquire some analog inputs, average the values, and then display the average values on the Front Panel at a rate of 2 Hz.  When I want to acquire data I enter a second timed loop and try to acquire data at a rate of 50 Hz.  The second timed loop is designed to acquire 1 value and then append the data to a file.  During the 50 Hz acquisition I want the first timed loop to also run so that the Front Panel continues to refresh values at 2 Hz.
    The problem I'm getting is that the second timed loop doesn't acquire and write data any faster than the first timed loop.  So in this case I'm limited to 2 Hz data acquisition when I want 50 Hz.

    Hi FRLFTE,
    the second loop run not faster because both loops are in the same "big" while loop, so that the second loop has to wait till the first is ready.

    outf.flush();

    Hi,
    when I look in the JDK1.4.2 specification I don't see any write method in the Document interface.
    However, your solution is the Transformer class. There you transform your DOM tree into any output you need. Your code sould look something like this:     TransformerFactory tf = TransformerFactory.newInstance();
         // set all necessary features for your transformer -> see OutputKeys
         Transformer t = tf.newTransformer();
         t.transform(new DOMSource(xmlDoc), new StreamResult(file));Then you have your XML file stored in the file system.
    Hope it helps.

  • How to loop through single XML File and send multiple RFC calls?

    I am looking for the best approach to use for making multiple RFC calls (can be sequential) using a single XML file of data.  I have been attempting to get a BPM loop working, but to no avail.  My RFC only accepts a single set of delivery input and I have been told to try to work with it as is.

  • Ref Cursors to write to xml file

    Hi,
    I am relatively new and i am looking at what other professionals have to comment.
    I am retriveing a ref cursor in Oracle and would like to store this information in an xml file along with another variable, as it would be easier to read/edit from an xml file rather than firing the stored procedure and picking/saving the ref cursor on every occassion that is required.
    Looking for what the experts have to say about this way.
    Also, i am looking at trying to implement this.
    How does one write to an xml document from a ref cursor in Oracle 9i
    Thank You
    Any help will be appreciated.

    You can not write REF Cursors directly to an XML file. One way to write REF Cursor data to an XML file would be to popoulate the Dataset using the REF Cursor and then use the XML functionality on Dataset to generate an XML file. Another way would be create an OracleDataReader and populate the XML file yourself.

                        list_box.Text = check.ToString();
    i down know what method can help me save my xml file after update hight score of user in this case .
    Anyone has an idea to solve it for me ? please , thanks you !
    sorry about my english !

    Hi,
    It is not recommended to update a file withing the project, so you need to store it in the IsolatedStorage.
    Here is a sample to read and write file in IsolatedStorage,
    XDocument xDoc;
    var file = Util.ReadFile("XMLFile.xml");
    if (file != null)
    xDoc = XDocument.Parse(file);
    var bestScore = xDoc.Element("best_score").Value;
    //do calculation
    xDoc.Element("best_score").Value = "200";
    Util.SaveFile("XMLFile.xml", xDoc.ToString());
    For the above code to work, you need to have a file named "XMLFile.xml" in your IsolatedStorage, with data as  "<best_scrore>200</best_scrore>"
    To read and write file:
    public static class Util
    public static void SaveFile(string filename, string data)
    try
    using (var store = System.IO.IsolatedStorage.IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication())
    using (var stream = new IsolatedStorageFileStream(filename, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite, store))
    StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(stream);
    writer.Write(data);
    writer.Close();
    catch (Exception)
    Debug.WriteLine("Couldn't save the file.");
    public static string ReadFile(string filename)
    try
    String data;
    if (!IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication().FileExists(filename)) return null;
    using (var store = System.IO.IsolatedStorage.IsolatedStorageFile.GetUserStoreForApplication())
    using (var stream = new IsolatedStorageFileStream(filename, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.ReadWrite, store))
    StreamReader stmReader = new StreamReader(stream);
    data = stmReader.ReadToEnd();
    stmReader.Close();
    return data;
    catch (Exception)
    return null;

  • Write into XML file

    Hi,

      Is the file type extension still attached at the end of the file name?
    It sounds like you are dealing with 10 corrupted files.
    If there are no privacy concerns, can you upload one of those files to the FTP service of your choice—such as yousendit.com, Dropbox, etc,—and post the link here so others can try opening them?
