0S-X 10.8.2 And CentOS

I have a Mac Mini running 10.8.2 and having created a bootable ISO of CentOS 6.3 I am unable to boot from this DVD. (I've been holding down the 'C' key during a reboot to no avail).
Since I've external drives as well, is it possible to boot from the Linux install DVD and have it install on one of the bootable external disks?
If that is not possible it would appear that I have to use Boot Camp....correct?
Many thanks,
Ron

First, an iso and bootable are not interchangeable. If it is indeed an iso, you need to burn the iso to disk as a disk, not iso.
Second, you need to hold down the option key to enter the boot manager. All bootable systems will show up. If it is a CD or DVD, it will take a little time to read the disk before it shows up.
I believe the C key will only boot Mac OS X off a CD, but I'm not certain.

    hi all
I am also facing the similar problem but in my case i used sun web server 6.1 and i installed policy agent 2.2.After authenticating in sun access manager it will throw me Server errror -
"This server has encountered an internal error which prevents it from fulfilling your request. The most likely cause is a misconfiguration. Please ask the administrator to look for messages in the server's error log."
and in policy agent log file it will throw me following exception
Error 12560:8f45a0 PolicyEngine: am_policy_evaluate: InternalException in AuthService::processLoginStatus() with error message:Exception message=[Invalid user ID and password. Try again.] errorCode='103' templateName=login_failed_template.jsp and code:3
Error 12560:8f45a0 PolicyAgent: validate_session_policy() status: Access Manager authentication service failure.
I delete my agent profile and recreate it but the message is same.I check my directory server also my agent profile is present there.
Can anyone tell me why this is happen?
    Thanks,

Take a look at the new ZCM11 - currently in Beta1 - for SLES & Red Hat support and broader support DBs - Oracle and Sybase included.

Most of ZESM functionality is built into this new architecture. You'll also get integrated Linux Management on this build.

11gR2 is not certified to be installed on CentOS, so from that perspective alone, OEL is the only choice.

  • FMS 4.5 and CentOS 6.1

FMS 4.5 lists CentOS 5.5 as a supported OS. Has it been tested on CentOS 6.1? Setting up a new server with FMS 4.5 and wondering if it's best to stick with CentOS 5.5 or if it should be OK to use CentOS 6.1. Thanks.

Everything seems to check out ok.  I've tried the server in multiple configurations.  Cent OS 6.2, 6.1, 5.5 with no firewall (iptables --flush).  All instances seem to fail in the same way.
Though I believe this may be issue with my web host.  I'm currently using Mediatemple.com and their VE service and this is where I have issue.
http://mediatemple.net/webhosting/ve/.   I don't believe they are blocking ports, so must be something else.
Does FMS have any known issues in the Virtuozzo environment?
I have CentOS 6.2 running on a local machine.... and FMS will work without any special configuration!!

  • Error while running runcluvfy.sh(11g RAC on CentOS 5(RHEL 5))

    Oracle Version: 11G

Question (including full error messages and setup scripts where applicable):
I am attempting to install oracle 11g in a RAC configuration with Centos 5 (redhat 5) as the operating system. I get the following error
ERROR : Cannot Identify the operating system. Ensure that the correct software is being executed for this operating system
    Verification cannot complete
I get this error message when I run runcluvfy.sh, to verify the my configuration is clusterable. I don't know why.
I edited the /etc/redhat-release and entered echo "Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 7)" to attempt to fool the installer into thinking its red hat 4.
But still shows the same message.
Anyone knows how to fix this ?
    Please help me.

    http://www.idevelopment.info/data/Oracle/DBA_tips/Linux/LINUX_20.shtml
runcluvfy.sh will not work on centos because the cluster verification utility checks the operating system version using the redhat-release packag and centos do this with his packages, so you must install and use redhat-release package
Get rpm-build to be able to build rpm’s:
    [root@centos5 ~]# yum install rpm-build
    Get source rpm of redhat-release
    [root@centos5 ~]# wget ftp://ftp.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/os/SRPMS/redhat-release-5Server-5.1.0.2.src.rpm
    Build package:
    [root@centos5 ~]# rpmbuild –rebuild redhat-release-5Server-5.1.0.2.src.rpm
    Install newly generated rpm:
    [root@centos5 ~]# rpm -Uvh –force /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/redhat-release-5Server-5.1.0.2.i386.rpm

  • How to install Fedora and Ubuntu on MacBook Pro?

I've asked this question on facebook groups "Linux" and "CentOS" but got no perfect answer. Again I'm asking the exact question here in hope of getting perfect answer...
I want to "Install" (CentOS 6.0/Fedora 15) or greater" on MacBook Pro (15", Mid 2010, core i7, 2.66 GHz). CentOS/Fedora is the only alternative to Red Hat Enterprise Linux I could come up  with. Virtual installation is not my option and I can't use services like "updates" with RHEL unless I pay them.. so CentOS/Fedora is the one that I need.
Need help to install CentOS on MacBooK Pro. Also is it possible to have Ubuntu along side of CentOS?? ..

If you do not want any form of virtualization, the only other option would be wrangling with BootCamp to see if you can do a native install. From what I have read, BootCamp tries very hard to allow you to install just Windows OS, but there may be some way to do it successfully.
Suggest you visit the BootCamp forum.

  • Oracle BPM Composer and other Apps Too Slow

    Dear Forum Members,
I made a installation of Oracle BPM/SOA Suite in a Development VM with 5GB RAM.
The web applications such as BPM Composer, EM, Weblogic Console are too slow. They take too much time to load.
I am using the JRockit JVM and Centos 6.

Bump up your memory to 8gb and then look at your xmx setting in your startWeblogic.sh and ensure it's 3072m or more.

  • Installing oracle xe on centos ci environment

    Hi,
I have a CI environment that run automated tests on my application every time a commit is pushed to github, the tests are run on a matrix of environments to check if the application is able to run with different databases.
I currently have tests running with sqlite, mysql and postgres and would like to add oracle to the matrix.
The application is in python, (for those curious it is here: https://github.com/treeio/treeio) so on top of the oracle xe database itself I need to install the appropriate driver (cx_oracle)
The current CI I'm using is travis (https://travis-ci.org/), the tests run in a debian (or maybe ubuntu, I'm not sure) environment, they already have mysql and postgres installed
Installing oracle xe on debian proved to be a headache, I've found https://oss.oracle.com/debian/ unstable main non-free which contains only and old 32 bits version, while this wouldn't be a problem for me it generate conflicts when I tried to install cx_oracle dependencies
In any case I've found another CI (snap-ci.com) which uses centos, I've managed to install oracle-xe from the rpm and pip install cx_oracle finally works, but when I try to run anything that uses sqlplus it fails:
echo "CREATE USER treeio IDENTIFIED BY treeio;" | sqlplus -S -L sys/admin AS SYSDBA
    sqlplus: command not found
it seems it was not added to the path or maybe I should have installed yet another rpm.
Ideally I would like to run the tests with oracle DB on both services (so I can test my application runs fine on debian and centos the same) but I can settle on running it on just one of them if you tell me it is not possible
by the way, does anyone runs oracle or any of its tools on debian? they seems to provide only RPMs. do everyone that works with oracle uses read hat only?
    thanks
    Avraham

    Hi,
The CI service have a interactive shell, I was able to further debug. I fixed the command not found problem and then it complained about permissions, but running with root gives me yet another exception.
currently my script is as below:
    #set paths:
    export ORACLE_VERSION="11.2"
    export ORACLE_HOME="/usr/lib/oracle/$ORACLE_VERSION/client64"
    export PATH=$PATH:"$ORACLE_HOME/bin"
    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:"$ORACLE_HOME/lib"
    . /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/xe/bin/oracle_env.sh
    # create user
echo "CREATE USER treeio IDENTIFIED BY treeio;" | sudo sqlplus -S -L sys/admin AS SYSDBA
    It gives me
    Error 6 initializing SQL*Plus
SP2-0667: Message file sp1<lang>.msb not found
SP2-0750: You may need to set ORACLE_HOME to your Oracle software directory
I also noticed that I was insalling oracle xe 11.2 and client libraries 12.1, I'm not sure if that would cause problems but I'm installing libraries and clients with the same version (11.2.x)

  • G550 and internet connection

i have recently bought a new lenovo G550 notebook and it seems a cool notebook for me with its cheap price.
well im new with notebooks and i want to know that how i can connect my notebook into the internet .
i have an ADSL connection working with a modem/router and a dual boot operating system ,windows 7 and centos 5.
how i can configure my system for connecting into the internet???
any drivers it needed to be installed ???
    thx

First, you need to configure your broadband router. WLAN security puntually.
For Windows, you need to install drivers. When the wireless card drivers are installed, Windows automatically will detect any WLAN (ADSL routers use standard options, like showing the name of the WLAN).
For other any OS, read the FAQ.
PS: Always check hardware compatibility before installing an OS.

  • Differences between Arch linux and RHEL-based Distros?

    Hi there!
So, I am officially trying to make the permanent switch from Windows to Linux. I've used Linux in the past, from Ubuntu, to Fedora, to Mint, and I've always liked Arch the most. Nothing beats the feeling of an OS you had a hand in setting up.
I'm wondering though, what are the differences in Arch vs distros like Red Hat, Fedora, and CentOS? I recently picked up a book called, "The Linux Bible" which provides a course-like approach to learning the intricacies of Linux. I'm wondering if it would be easily possible to adapt the lessons from that to Arch, or to use Fedora or another RHEL-based distro like it suggests.
    Thanks

The biggest issue I find is with SE Linux. I don't know if this is default in RHEL itself but Fedora uses it. If I understood it properly, though, I doubt it would be such an issue!
EDIT: I think it would be best to learn one distro first, using documentation for that distro. So if you want to use the book, install something that matches the book as closely as possible. If you want to use Arch, use the wiki as your primary documentation. I say this because there is a big difference between figuring out the ways in which two distros differ when you understand the GNU/Linux basics and (I imagine) trying to do so when you are still learning those basics. I don't just mean ls, grep etc. - other systems use those - but the stuff which is common to any GNU/Linux distro. Obviously this applies even more if you also are learning stuff like ls, grep, cd etc. (which might be true if you're moving from Windows rather than, say, OS X or one of the BSDs).

  • Firefox 3.6.7 and 3.6.8 are sluggish, slow and unresponsive.

I am experiencing slow web page loads on all web pages using 3.6.7 and 3.6.8 on Mac, Windows and Linux Ubuntu and CentOS. Numerous websites recommend turning on network pipelining, upping the max requests, and disabling IPv6 dns, using the about:config command. That solved my problem, but beyond voiding my warranty ;^(, it also makes some ipv6 web content inaccessible. On a fresh Firefox install I am encountering wait times of thirty to one hundred seconds per page load, totally unacceptable in my workplace. At home, page loads are between fifteen and thirty seconds, and I am running dual core processors. The support community seems convinced that this is an IPv6 issue, so maybe there is a bug in that area. I don't want to think that IPv6 is going to slow the internet to a crawl.
Anyway the recommended solution that worked cross-platform is to disable IPv6 using about:config, set "network.dns.disableIPv6" to "true."

I've been having the same issue for many weeks. Intermittent freezes where the mouse cursor locks for up to 10 seconds at a time. Random 5-10 second pauses between opening adjacent tabs and just plain intermittent sluggish response. The frequency of slothfulness "appears" to be increasing with time. Either that or my patience is decreasing. I'm using the same box (Intel P4 2.8GHZ/3GB ram) I've had since installing version 6.xx of Ubuntu. Firefox was always been speedy until Ubuntu 10.04. No problems with Opera or Epiphany. Obviously they have nowhere near the feature set of FF so using them is a downgrade in convenience. However the FF performance has degraded sufficiently to where I'm finding myself using Opera more often than not. I've tried all the conventional fixes including the reportedly 'tried and true' '''disable IPv6 using about:config, set network.dns.disableIPv6" to "true."'' method to no avail.
Let's hope a rev is soon released addressing the problem or one of the other browsers begins to offer the same nifty add-ons as FF (fat chance).

  • AL & Glassfish Production system on CentOS?

I'm seeking opinions and REAL EXPERIENCE from anyone running the apex listener with glassfish on the CentOS linux OS.  I realize Oracle does not officially support CentOS (at least it isn't listed as an OS option on the glassfish site nor My Oracle Support).  However, knowing the relationship kernel-wise between RH and CentOS and the principles of the JRE, it isn't such a black and white decision for us.  I see many developers configuring a sandbox with XE, AL & GF on CentOS but if you have experienced success or issues with this environment (AL 2, GF 3 & CentOS 5 or 6).
I offer much appreciation in advance for sharing your experiences. Thanks!
