1 hr video says it's too long sharing to iDVD

I took an amature analog video of my brother's wedding, imported it through a canopus DVC100 to iMovie. I chopped it up, removing some footage of the ground, and adding some fades and transitions.
and now I'm ready to use iDVD for the first time.
I had noticed earlier that the project seamed VERY large in terms of MB compared to the low 640 x 480 resolution and not very long (1 hr) of edited video. Unedited, the 6 or so 1.9 GB chunks of raw video add up to more like 3 hours.
1) was 640 x 480 the max I resolution I could import at? I don't really remember CHOOSING that resolution, but it certainly seems like the bottleneck in terms of final product quality. I expect that 640x480 resolution was the default?
2) how is my 1hr of edited iMovie project too large for a DVD? Is iMovie really exporting the ENTIRE 3 hr of unedited video even when I only select the 1hr of edited video in my timeline?
how do I do this correctly?

Thanks for straightening me out on all of this!
Feels better knowing the time barriers so that I know WHY iDVD threw up the warning.
Matti's response was also correct. My video is NTSC 720 x 480, and again, great to know that's the standard resolution and not just some arbitrary bottleneck that got selected when I imported the video. I'm sure this resolution will look just spiffy when played back on DVD on the TV.
I was just messing with the iDVD wedding theme. Dropping some video on the drop zones and such. COOL Stuff! I was a bit disappointed, however, to see those videos I dropped down, jumping around a bit and looping. I'd rather have the DVD menu play through my little samples once, and then transition to a static DVD menu. I'm not a big fan of looping. After finishing the song I pick for the background, for example, just stay silent please! I'm going to swing by my local apple store, swing by their "studio," and see if the DVD menu can be tweaked more to my non-repetitive liking.

  • Trying to email a 3 minute video from my ipad2 but it says it is too long.  Is there a way to get around this?

how to send a 3 minute video via email from the ipad2..I tried but it says it is too long.  Is there a way to circumvent this?  Or if not, how do I break it up (how ridiculous) so that I can send it?

Thank you for the recommendation! Being my impatient self I am trying the app VideoEmail, but although my ipad made the sound as if the email went through... It is not showing up in my sent box. Also, too late to contact recipients to see if they got it. So tomorrow I will probably be trying GoodReader! Thanks again!

  • Why can't i email my video?  It says it is too long.

Please can you tell me why my iPad is telling me I can't email a video to myself.  I get a message saying it is too long.  The reason I can't understand this is as follows:
    1.  The clip is quite short - maybe a minute or so.
    2.  I am sending it via MY OWN wifi network (so it has no impact on my carrier)
    3.  I am sending it to MY OWN email account on MY OWN network server (so it's not as if there are any space or bandwidth issues anywhere)
I hope there is a workaround.  I don't want to have to carry around my MacBook with my iPad just so that I can send short videos via email.

    Lex,
You say that it has nothing to do with Apple but they are the people that write the email code that generates the message aren't they?
Regarding your "You can see how big the file is: in Finder right click on the file, and 'get info'.", there is no Finder app on the iPad is there?  I assume that to find out how big the file is, I would first have to get it onto the Mac?

  • IDVD says project is too long

I have just edited some home video and the finished project in iMovie is 1hour and 15 minutes. I am trying to burn this onto a DVD and get a message that the project is too long and I should insert double layer media.
I thought you could burn up to 2 hours onto a single layer DVD. What am I doing wrong?
    I am using iLife 05 on a G5 iMac running 10.4.6.
    Thanks.
    David

Go to preferences and change the setting from Best Performance to Best Quality.
B.Performance is limited to 60 minutes while
B.Quality is limited to 120 minute
    (on single layer media)

  • How do I email my videos if they are too long?

I have a friend who has an ipad and she did a video or a couple of videos that wouldn't email to her email account.  I have had this problem with mine before. How do you get videos that are too long to email?

You don't e-mail them. You upload them somewhere. You can try getting a youtube account (you can set the videos to private or unlisted, so the general 'anybody' can't see them without you sharing the link.
You could also upload them to a service like dropbox or the such and then the other party can download them

  • Can't copy files to AirDisk. Says filenames are too long

I plugged a USB drive into my Time Capsule, that I previously had plugged into my Mac via the USB port. Now that I've mounted it as an AirDisk every time I try to copy files to it I get an error message stating:
'You cannot copy some of these items to the destination because their names are too long for the desitnation...'
None of the files I've tried to copy over have long filenames. In fact just to test it I created a text file & saved it with only 2 letters as the filename, & still get the same problem trying to copy to the AirDisk.
    Can anyone help?

    Yes, it's formatted as HFS+.
Just to make sure, I've unplugged it from the Time Capsule & plugged it into the USB port of my Mac again & it works fine like this. But now I've plugged it back into the Time Capsule it's now working fine. Strange.
    Thanks for the suggestion

  • TS3772 I made a 3 minute movie with my iphone 4s. when I attempt to share it by message or email, a message says the movie is too long and that I must make clips. Is there any way to get around this and send the whole video? I think everything is in the c

I made a 3-minute movie with my iphone 4S. When I attempt to share it via email or message I get a message that says it is too long, that I should try to make a clip. Of course I had rather send the whole thing. What are the possibilities? I think my music and likely my videos and pictures are in the cloud.

  • Output columns too long

    Hi,
I've a join over two tables with about 150 columns. This was never a problem.
Now I have two MAXDB databases from two customers (7.6.06.03). In one of them my statement says "output columns too long", running the same application on the second db works fine.
    Any ideas?
I guess there is a problem with maximum record length of about 8000 bytes. Can this be extended in any way?
    Any help will be appreciated.

Hmm.. this sounds a bit odd.
Do you use prepared statements in your application?
Concerning the change of limitations, just compare the documentation

@Lars Breddemann: do you suggest to move to 7.7? Are there any problems? How do i the update?
    Yes, absolutely.
7.7 has been out for years now and it's pretty stable.
To perform the upgrade, I'd go for simply using SDBSETUP.
Alternatively you may use SDBUPD (textbased interface).
Ok, now you've got a project for the early days in 2011
    Have a nice holiday season!

  • Problem preparing imovie error code project too long

I am creating imovie which is only 16 minutes long and has still images and songs. Previous copy was copied using iDVD but now error message comes up saying project is too long. Please Help.

A DVD can actually hold up to 120 minutes, including titles etc.
Best Performance is for movies of up to 60 minutes.
Best Quality is for movies of 61 - 120 minutes.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
(And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.)
An alternative, if your project can not be edited down to 120 minutes, is to use Toast for the burning, which has a setting 'compress to fit' for longer projects, albeit with a minimal quality loss.

  • Single user mode: Argument List is too long, PLEASE HELP

    Hey guys,
I recently posted a topic asking if any1 knew how to delete all png files on the desktop,
    Nt many people replied,
But anyway, I did some research and now I know how to do it,
but in single user mode (cmd + S),
When I typed in rm *.png
While I ws on the desktop in single user mode,
It came up saying Argument list too long,
Does any1 know how to fix this,
    Plz reply ASAP,
& if possible addme on Skype mark.davidson19, it wld b extremely helpful

If there are too many files expanded via the *.png wildcard, then the argument list length maximum can be exceeded.  The last time I checked, Mac OS X had a 256K line length limitation. (AIX was 1M, Linux 128K, Solaris 1M, Windows 8K (Cygwin env) - your mileage may vary with each operating system release).
If you have too many files to expand on the command line, then you can delete them in batches.  There are several ways to do this
    cd ~/Desktop
    rm [a-m]*.png
    rm [n-z]*.png
    rm [A-M]*.png
    rm [N-Z]*.png
    Or finer increments.
    You could use something like
    find ~/Desktop  '*.png' -print0 -depth 1 | xargs -0 rm
    And you can also use
find ~/Desktop '*.png' -depth 1 -delete
This being a Unix environment, there are most likely a dozen additional ways to delete all the .png files and avoid command line length limits.
As MrHoffman says, using rm and wildcards is a very dangerous thing to do unless you really REALLY know what you are doing.  If not, I strongly suggest having a recent full backup handy.  I actually suggest a backup regardless of how good you are in the Unix environment (I have multiple via different backup utilities preformed on a very regular basis;  years of experience has taught me you cannot be too careful with your data - it is worth far more than the cost of backup equipment).

  • Disk Utility (10.5.6) error: File name too long

Hello, here is one for you all...
I am in the midst of creating a new "build image" so I can start deploying Leopard.
Before I upgraded the build to 10.5.6 I was able to create a disk image of this build machine.
After updating it to 10.5.6 and all of the current Apple updates I am no long able to create a disk image.
I keep getting an error several minutes into the imaging process that says +"*File name too long".*+
I've run permission repair on the disk and Disk Warrior with still no luck. I've also used different machines and a boot FireWire drive to make he image and still have had no luck. I can use CCC to clone my Master build to another machine but I need to be able to make an image of it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Bear in mind that in Unix, a file name includes the path, so if you have a very deep file or perhaps some kind of infinite recursive link, that might cause the problem, since that would make the file name very long indeed.
This may not be the problem you are having, but it just came to my mind when I read your post

  • Slideshow Taking WAY too long to load

I have a slideshow posted at
    http://olyrents.com/slideshow.htm
My client is saying it takes too long to load, and I am
finding that it is loading all of the photos first before you can
scroll through and view them. It's just not functioning properly.
I wonder if someone could look at the actionscript and give
me any suggestions? Maybe there's something else going on?
I have attached the script from the original fla file.
    Thanks!

That adds up to somewhere in the realm of 5MB, which isn't
going to be a quick load time, though it might be visually workable
if you separate the loading from the viewing.
One thing you might consider is doing away with the preloader
visual. With 65 images being interupted by 65 preloader screens, it
kinda defeats the potential aethetics of the images and may lead
one to think it's taking a long time to load them as a result.

  • TS3899 Video too long to email

I'm trying to email a video from my iPhone but I keep getting a message saying that it's too long and that I need to edit it.  I've emailed longer videos in the past and have been successful.  What am I doing wrong?

Hello Jenkjat, what you are describing is one of the iPhone's most frustrating limitations. It has nothing to do with the size of the email attachment. Apple has simply decided that 52 seconds of video is the longest that can be emailed, end of story. This usually corresponds to around a 5-6 mb file.
Considering that a standard Corporate Gmail account can send 25 mb attachments this restriction does not make sense. The same "logic" applies to sending pictures. Apple has decided that you can only email 5 pictures at a time, try to select the 6th image and the email icon will not come up. You can of course go into the email program and attach one image at a time (insert image) and the go on but that is tedious and not very logical.
The best solution to the issue of sending longer videos is to download the Google Drive App and set up a folder within Gdock's that have the preferred sharing privileges and then upload to this. However, a 5 minute video will NOT be 25 mb or so as the otherwise excellent iPhone compression software (that kicks in when you email a video) is not used. Therefore the file will be very large and completely unpractical to upload even on 4G as it would use up too much data.
There are also Apps out there that allows for longer videos to be emailed but I have not found anything yet that works as well as Apple original. Any ideas or suggestons anyone?
