Calendar app in 10.3 dev preview

Surprised to see what seem like an obvious UX issue with the calendar app in the 10.3 dev preview:
The month view is moved forward/backward in time by swiping down and up, where the day and week view are moved forward/backward in time by swiping left/right. While I suppose I could get used to it, I don't see why it was necessary or desirable to break the user's sense of past/future navigation depending on what chunk of time they are striding forward/backward. Why not just keep the way that it works in 10.2?

Oh, and also a minor observation/suggestion:
In month view, the agenda panel below the calendar can be expanded by tapping a tiny little icon button. Swipe gestures are genius on small screen mobile devices because they require less precision vs. tapping on some very specific spot. Why not expand or contract the agenga view panel with a swipe up/swipe down? The tiny little tap target can stay, as a visual cue for folks who prefer to tap a button, but high-utility swiping is all over the rest of the calendar app, and agenda view expansion is just one more logical place to put it.

Oracle JDev 10g Dev Preview - More generics fun

Building off of the previous post about how imports don't clean up properly when you are using generics... My co-workers and I are having fun working with Generics and the Code Assist feature. As Soon as a collection with Generic information is used in a class, Code assist fails to work with any methods. It shows autocomplete on defining classes, but if, for example, you want to type a method to an instanciated object, lets say,

aColl.ite <ctrl> - <space>
Nothing happens. Nothing to even indicate there is a code assist there.
Is this a known "feature" / "bug"?
Is there going to be another Dev Preview released anytime soon? Our company is leveraging the power of Java 5, and without the tools, it is getting more difficult to use the advanced features....

Best way to install Dev Preview 2.1.x on OS X 10.7

I just downloaded the OS X dev preview and am looking forward to experimenting with it, but the link on the downloads page that purports to link to "Release notes and installation instructions" actually leads to release notes only--no install instructions. I'd like the preview to be generally available on my system, but also want to make sure I don't have to chase down and delete multiple files when upgrading to a newer version (I might miss something) and also don't want to destabilize Java in apps that don't use JavaFX. Suggestions as to how to achieve these (probably contradictory aims) best are appreciated.
I'm usiing IDEA 11, and accessing Java libs through Scala 2.9.0.1 or above (depending on project).

don't want to destabilize Java in apps that don't use JavaFXThe JavaFX dev preview installs are seperate installs from Java - Java knows nothing about them, so it can't be destabilized by them - this may change some time in the future if Java and JavaFX are co-bundled on OSX, but that probably won't happen anytime soon, so I wouldn't worry about it.
I'm usiing IDEA 11, and accessing Java libs through Scala 2.9.0.1 or above (depending on project).If you are already using JavaFX + Scala + IDEA 11, then you don't need the guide below, which isn't directly related to your question . . . but just in case.
Install Idea 11.0.1 from http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download/index.html (important to have the latest version here as earlier builds of version of 11 didn't really work - read crashed... - with the scala plugin).
Get the latest nightly build of the Idea scala plugin from http://confluence.jetbrains.net/display/SCA/Scala+Plugin+Nightly+Builds+for+Nika (Nika is codename for Idea 11, earlier builds of the scala plugin don't work well with Nika).
Install the downloaded scala plugin in Idea via File | Settings | Plugins | Install Plugin from disk
Install JavaFX from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javafx/downloads/devpreview-1429449.html
To create a sample JavaFX + Scala project based on a maven artifact imported into Idea:
Set a JAVAFX_HOME environment variable to the location your JavaFX developer preview SDK is installed at. (not required for general JavaFX development, but is required to use this maven artifact).
Create a new project, File | New Project | Create Project From Scratch | Project Name => colorfulcircles & **select Maven Module** | Add Archetype | GroupId: de.schlichtherle ArtifactId: javafx-scala-demo Version: 0.4
Edit the pom.xml file to set the scala.version to 2.9.1 and the scalatest version to 1.6.1, then click on Maven Projects | Reimport (optional step to get the latest version)
Open ColorfulCirclesDocs.scala and change Application.launch line to Application.launch(classOf[ColorfulCirclesDocs]), then rightclick on the launch line to run the program - your screen should be full of colorful circles generated by scala invoking JavaFX.
If you are new to JavaFX, I recommend developing JavaFX in Java, otherwise have fun with JavaFX and Scala and, if you have not seen it yet, checkout the ScalaFX project (http://code.google.com/p/scalafx/) .

How to download Lion Dev preview

I'm having trouble downloading the preview. I got my redemption code, plugged it in, and the dev preview shows up as available. I see it in the 'purchases' category, with an 'install' grey button. However whenever i click the install button nothing happens. Please help!

As soon as I boot it up, it tells me that said version of iTunes is not designed for my build of OS X, and it crashes on me.

Ipod Touch not in itunes - windows 8 Dev preview

Hey,
I use the new Windows 8 Developer Preview and I cant find the apple mobile process. So the result of that is my iPod Touch (4g) doesn't show up on my computer. Help please?

10g Dev Preview -- sub query problem

I'm not sure if this is the place to report bugs or problems with the 10g developer preview. But here goes.
I have some code that used to work. The idea is to find "task" objects that are not assigned to anyone, ie, have no "task assignment" records pointing to them. This code used to work. It creates an expression that when queried returns all Task objects that are not in the subQuery which fetches task assignments.

This maybe isn't that surprising. I see that the unbound ExpressionBuilders might be causing problems. However, which I switch to something a little bit more like what I see in the examples:

Installing Safari 4 Dev preview but keeping safari 3

Is there a way that I can install Safari 4 Developer Preview on my mac, but still have Safari 3 in a usable format?

When you remove 4 it installs 3.
No, it doesn't. Uninstalling Safari 4 Preview reverts your system to the version of Safari you were previously running. It doesn't install anything.

Web services 10.1.2 & 10.1.3 dev preview

Hi,
I'm trying to generate a simple web service using both the 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 versions of JDev.
I create a simple class with one method to add two integers toegther and return the result. Everything generates with no errors reported but when I try to run the test client I get this error:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Files\jDeveloper\10_1_2\jdev\bin
I get the exact same error for both versions. There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of documentation for eith er version so if I am missing a step in the process it not easy to find what I'm doing wrong.
Any help on this would be greatlt appreciated.

As you can see it has added another "add" method which takes a single int parameter and doesn't return anything, so it won't compile. Just removing or giving this new method a return statement doesn't help as the original add(int, int) method is not available in the stub client. There is an add method available, but its the new one JDev has added itself.

Datasource not created - 10.1.3 dev preview

Hi,
I have a database connection in my Connections panel which doesn't get deployed to the test environment when I run/debug my application.
When i use the same setup under 10.1.2 I can expand the application server connection I created for the test environment and the connection is there as "jdbc/xxxxxx". In 10.1.3 the jdbc branch is empty.
Can anyone tell me how to get around this please? I tried manually editing the data-sources.xml file but I get an error on OC4J startup telling me I have a duplicate datasource name. Its obviously doing something with the connection, its just not in the JNDI tree anywhere for me to look it up.

thanks for your reply. That all sounds great how it should be but as I said in my first post, the connection isn't being deployed to the server.
According to the server preferences window the connections should be available as "jdbc/WebcProductsDB". I can't look up the connection at this location and when I browse the JNDI tree in the app server conncetions section the whole jdbc branch is empty.

PS you can modify the JNDI name in the OC4J server preferences window, but any changes you make there aren't remembered by Jdeveloper.

Icon with Dev Preview running 8.1 - will I need to reset to get the Denim firmware?

Apologies if this has been asked already, but I'm running DP 8.1 on my Icon (no issues, other than heavy lag for startup screen) and am wondering if I'll need to reset my phone to 8.0 to get Verizon's blessed version of 8.1 with Denim firmware? Thanks!

You shouldn't need to. I've read some people with 928s or 822s have disable the PFD app, though. That's just a simple check box.
The real question remains. WHEN is this coming. We're in a better position than we were a week ago but still in the dark as to a real date.

Using the dev preview on one partition fresh install on other?

I want to install mavericks on my formatted partition but when i download it it asks me if i want to continue (because i am running 10.9) and download the installer, i say continue it goes into a loading loop and never registers on my account. When nothing worked then i went to the 10.9 recovery and used the reinstall option selected my formatted disk (it is formatted correctly) and it askes for my apple id. It then says i must use the apple id used to "buy" osx mavericks and it refuses to work any ideas?

Osx wont boot after installing windows dev preview.

Hi. I recently added boot camp and windows 8 to my 2011 mbp 17". Ever since the install my computer wont boot osx unless i run disk utility and repair my mac partition. Then everything runs fine untill i go into windows again and then go back to osx. Thoughts?

So to get a external source to boot Lion, you need to Carbon Copy Cloner Lion to a another new/blank Disk Utility HFS+ Journaled formatted drive. Disconnect your TimeMachine drive before doing anything and don't clone to it or everything will be erased, use another drive.
Once you have Lion cloned, hold option and boot from the Lion clone and test it out.

Your signature says you have 10.6.8, obviously there are no install disks for 10.7, however you can make some by "hold option" and clicking on Purchases in the MacAppStore and redownloading the Lion installer (but don't install)
Follow these directions to make multiple "hold c" bootable DVD copies of the Lion installer.

Test the disks out, you can see it's just like the 10.6.8 installer disk with Disk Utility and everything.
With a Lion DVD one can install Lion AND the Lion Recvoery Partition on a new or totally erased drive, like we are about to do.
When you clone Lion, it only clones the Lion OS X partition, not the Lion Recovery Partition. So by totally erasing the entire disk and installing Lion from the DVD can the Lion Rececovery Partition and Lion OS X partition be restored and your GPT repaired and your firmware flushed.
So once you got a Lion clone disconnect it, then c boot from the DVD and erase your ENTIRE Lion internal drive, this means you have to select the drive makers name on the left, HFS+ journaled of course.
Once that is competed, install Lion fresh, this will create both the Lion OX partition and the Lion Recovery Partition.
When that is finished, don't bother booting into the fresh Lion install, simply option boot off the Lion clone and reverse clone onto the Lion OS X partition, this will place back Lion, all your programs and files just like before.
Then you should be back to normal, your GTP is fixed, EFI is fixed (reboot twice) and you have everything except the Windows bootcamp partition.
