10.2.0.1 installation problem on redhat 4 (ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact)

Hi,
I tried to install Oracle 10.2.0.1 on a RedHat 4 box. Both, Oracle and RedHat are 64 bit versions. The installation was fine but the database creation (with dbca) could not create the database because of this error: ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact
I can not find any errors in the installation log. Only this warnings in the make.log:

Best regards,
Dirk

If you execute "uname -mpi" and output value is x86_64 then you didn't install all required packages.
/usr/bin/ld: warning: i386 architecture of input file `/opt/oracle/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/sysman/lib/snmccolm.o' is incompatible with i386:x86-64 outputAccording to this message you are missing some 64bit package.
To find the missing package execute following command to list installed packages and post the output:
rpm -qa --qf '%{name}-%{version}-%{release}.%{arch}\n'|egrep 'compat|glibc|gcc|libstdc'|sortMessage was edited by:

  • ORA-03135: connection lost contact (10gR2) on RedHat 3ES

    Hello all,
We are having an issue with a new installation of Oracle 10gR2 on a RedHat Enterprise 3ES server. After twenty minutes or so of idle connectivity, we are losing connections to the database with the following error: ORA-03135. So, I looked this up in the Error Messages doc and got this:
    ORA-03135: connection lost contact
Cause: 1) Server unexpectedly terminated or was forced to terminate. 2) Server timed out the connection.
Action: 1) Check if the server session was terminated. 2) Check if the timeout parameters are set properly in sqlnet.ora.
    1) Obviously, our sessions aren't being deliberately killed.
    2) This is our only timeout parameter in sqlnet.ora:
    SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT=5
It doesn't matter what tool we use (SQL*Plus, TOAD, PL/SQL Developer). All of these are getting the error after about twenty minutes of idle connectivity.
My other guess might be the OS disconnecting idle sessions on the listener port or whatever other port(s) Oracle uses.
Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks in advance.
    Bill

    Bill,
Can you shed some insight as to what changes were required at the firewall? I am using ODP.NET 10.2 client to connect to a Oracle 9i database and having the same problem intermittently where I am too getting ORA-03135 errors.
The database is running on Solaris and is three hops away. Latency as measured by ping to each hop is typically 1-2 ms.
The problem is reproducable from multiple hosts on two different subnets.
If I write code to handle the exception and retry the operation it will succeed everytime but I would like to fix the problem instead of bandaid it ;)
    Thank you,
    Brent Ferree

  • OracleAS 10g Installation Problem on RedHat AS 3.0

    Hi
I need to install OracleAS 10g on RedHat AS 3.0 and it seems that I need a patch (Patch 3006854) and the installation is impossible without it.I just started using oracleAS 10g and I dont have any metalink id.
I think something is wrong here.
a free trial version with a commercial patch !!!
can any one please help me out.
    regards yashar

    dear fredrik
I tried to install it according to the installation guid on http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleAS10gInstallationOnRedHatAS3.php as you see it asked for installation of a patch.
and yes I tried to install it without installing this patch and I got an error saying that I am missing a file named ld.so in /etc.I thought it might be connected to that patch.
beside when I was looking for the solution to my problem I saw many people having the same problem and asking the exact same question.
please notify about any solution that you think might help me solving this problem. I am in a hurry

  • Oracle8i Installation Problems with RedHat 6.1

    Hi all,
The Oracle8i installation process for Linux has MUCH room for improvement. After retrieving the so-called "User Friendly Install of Oracle8i on RedHat 6.1", I followed the steps diligently and after extending my swap space, I managed to get the install to work - sort of.... the install of "Database Assistant" failed.. Help on this issue if appreciated. However, a solution to the next problem is much needed:
After exiting the installer, I go $ORACLE_HOME/install/utl and run the "linux.sh" script (as given in the guide). This script is not successful-it does not find a library "-ldl". Is this an Oracle library? Help! I cannot proceed with the installation until I can get this to work!

Take a closer look were it fails exactly.
The linux.sh mainly calls the MaKe files in different directories to link the products together. dl is a library which should be found in your PATH staement. Use ldconfig -p to see which lib-path are include in your ld-path. Make shure that you've included the ld_library_path statement in your root .profile.
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Oracle 10g installation problem on redHat

    Dear pals,

The error log show the same thing thus nothing can help.
    My Redhat version is:
Linux version 2.4.20-8 ([email protected]) (gcc version 3.2.2 20030222 (Red Hat Linux 3.2.2-5)) #1 Thu Mar 13 17:54:28 EST 2003
Is there anyone can help? Thank you very much in advance.
    Regards,
    Eddie

Werner Puschitz has a good home page (sorry, I forgot the link) on that:
    su - root
    cp /etc/redhat-release /etc/redhat-release.backup
    cat > /etc/redhat-release << EOF
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)
    EOF
It works for me on RH9.0. Change redhat-release.backup to
redhat-release after you are done with your installation.

My system is 64 bit AMD.
I installed .deb package on Ubuntu 9.04 server. I installed the following packages.
    1.     ibc6-i386

dpkg -l |grep libaio gives the following:

I have been running XE on 9.04 (32bit on my laptop - 64bit on my workstation) and both works fine. I had no problem installing. I followed the directions in documents I found on Ubuntu forums and also google. The document I used to install on 64bit was from http://littlebrain.org
    I remember using

    dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
and then I used the ./oracle-xe configure as root, the installation was ok - and I have even updated the APEX version to 3.2.1 on the XE installation running on my 64bit Ubuntu 9.04
    hope this proves useful

  • Oraview.vrf(0) is missing -- installation problem

    Hello:
I had a problem when I was trying to install Oracle 8.0.5 on my
RedHat 6.0 machine. Please help me if you happen to know the
solution. It seemed that everything was OK at the first stage of
my installation. After I set the environment variables, I ran the
orainst to install new product without creating database. After I
got the success result, I ran the "glibcpatch" script. I also got
the message saying "Applied glibc patch for Oracle 8.0.5.
successfully." Well, after I ran the orainst again to try to
create database objects, I got the problem. In the install
screen, I select "Oracle 8 Standard RDBMS 8.0.5.0.0". After the
installation ran for a while, I got this message:
    Oraview.vrf(0): FILE_NOT_FOUND while verifying oraview.
    (No such file or directory.)
I tried several times to install again from the very beginning.
But each time it stopped there. I got the same results. Did
anybody out there have the same problem before? If you know how
to solve this problems, please help me. Your help is greatly
