10.2.0.4 - 11.2 - dbua - fatal - db using asm as storage,... but it isn't

I'm upgrading my 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.1 on RHEL5.4.
I start up the 11.2 dbua, and select the database to upgrade, then dbua pops up a box that says:
"The database is using ASM as storage. Before you upgrade the database, you need to upgrade ASM using Automatic Storage Configuration Assistant (ASMCA) from grid infrastructure home. Starting 11gR2, ASM should be running from grid infrastructure home"
The problem is.... I am not running ASM.
Any reasons why dbua is complaining about this, and how I can get past it?
Thanks in advance.
Stuart.

trace.log shows dbua thinking ASM is installed. I'll update this when Oracle Support come back to me...

• Fatal errors using JavaFX ChoiceBox, Tooltip, Popup in Eclipse (RCP) View

I'm using JavaFX within an Eclipse RCP application. Any JavaFX popup (ChoiceBox, Tooltip, etc..) within an eclipse view causes a fatal exception to occur when clicking on the popup. The popups do appear, but clicking on them causes the fatal error.
I created a standalone JavaFX application to confirm that the Popups work fine in that environment. They do.
I also created a standalone SWT-based application (outside of an RCP) that embeds the FXCanvas within an SWT shell and the problem doesn't occur there either.
But when the Combo is contained in an FXCanvas within and RCP view, the fatal exception occurs.
Has anybody else seen this behavior?
I tried it with JavaFX 2.0.2, 2.1 b17, 2.1 b19 (all 32bit)
I'm using JRE 6.0_30-b12 (32bit) on Windows 7 (64bit)
My RCP target platform is based on eclipse 3.6 (galileo).
Thanks!

The problem is described in http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-20883. e(fx)clipse 0.0.14 (http://tomsondev.bestsolution.at/2012/05/29/efxclipse-0-0-14-released/) which I've just released fixes the problem. Unfortunately it does not work with 3.6 because I'm using OSGi API only available > 3.7.0

• Fatal error using C++ native library

Hi everyone,
I'm currently developing a JNI native library in C++ in order to use an original library from a third vendor. I'm trying to perform a very simple operation, just calling a concrete method from the original library from a Java sample application.
The same test in C++ is working fine, so I assume the vendor library is working correctly. But if I perform exactly the same code from within my native library using JNI, it give a crash like this:
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
# SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x000000371c880580, pid=17095, tid=1077307712
# JRE version: 6.0_27-b07
# Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (20.2-b06 mixed mode linux-amd64 compressed oops)
# Problematic frame:
# C [libc.so.6+0x80580] wchar_t+0x0
I think this is telling me that there was an error in the native library, more concrete in the libc.so library which is part of the GNU C++ compiler used to generate the native library. I don't know what the "wchar_t" wants to mean, since I know that is a primitive type for wide chars. It might be that the error is related to the use of this primitive within the vendor library?
The compilation options that I'm using are the following:
#CCFLAGS = -shared -Wl,-soname,${TARGET} -lstdc++ -ldl -lpthread -fopenmp
CCFLAGS = -shared -Wl,-soname,${TARGET} -ldl -fopenmp
#FPFLAGS = -DLINUX -DGX_NAMESPACES -fPIC -fshort-wchar
#FPFLAGS = -fPIC -fshort-wchar
FPFLAGS = -fPIC
${TARGET} : FPEnginePulnixImpl.o
${CC} -o ${TARGET} FPEnginePulnixImpl.o ${CCFLAGS} -L${JAI_DIR} -lVrs
FPEnginePulnixImpl.o :
${CC} -o FPEnginePulnixImpl.o -I"${JDK_INCLUDES}" -I"${JDK_INCLUDES_LINUX}" -I"../jni/include" -I"${JAI_INCLUDES}" ${FPFLAGS} -c ../src/main/C++/FPEnginePulnixImpl.cc
I played around with those ones, without success so far. I debugged the native code and I know the crash is coming when I call a constructor of a C++ class of the vendor library. Is there something I could do about this? BTW, on Windows is working fine, but indeed, the vendor library is a different one. I've got the impression that there's something in the JNI wrapper of the JDK6 that I'm using that makes the vendor library to crash, either that or something wrong with the compilation of my native library.
Any help will be welcome.
Thanks and regards,
Luis

Most often errors are caused by
1. Pointer errors
2. Api misuse, such as using something in the wrong order (which actually leads to a pointer problem but it not really the cause.)
Keep in mind that the fact that code runs 'ok' on one system is NOT a safe indicator that the above problems do not exist.
If it is not that then if the binaries have incompatible build properties then that can cause problems.

• Localconfig is not found out in the new grid Oracle_HOME

Hi There,
Ifollowed the metalink Note ID 736121.1 to upgrad ASM for Non-RAC from 10gr2 to 11gr2. The 11gr2 Grid installation is successful, which is on a different directory from the current ASM directory. What I did for insallation is software only installation. However, when I'm doing step 4 in the Note, localconfig is not found out in the now Grid home directory(/ora/fs0000/app/grid/11.2.0/bin). even no DBUA is found out either. I'm unable to upgrade ASM for non-RAC from 10r2 to 11gr2.
With the successful installation of 11rr2 grid, the CSS is running in 11gr2, but No DBUA is found out in the new Grid Oracle_HOME directory.

1) Install the new 11g ASM Oracle Home (on a different directory) as described in the Installation Guide associated with your specific platform :
http://www.oracle.com/pls/db111/portal.portal_db?selected=11&frame=
==)> Installation Guide for <your platform/Os>
2) Shutdown all the database instances that are using ASM as storage option.
3) Shutdown the ASM instance.
4) Reconfigure the CSS service:
Connect as root OS user and execute:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/localconfig reset
Where: $ORACLE_HOME is the new 11g ASM Oracle Home
5) Startup the ASM instance (connected as Oracle OS user) as usual (using the 10g Oracle Home).
6) From another graphical session, set the environment variables (ORACLE_HOME, PATH, etc.) pointing to your new 11 ASM Oracle Home.
7) Then execute the DBUA from the new ASM 11gOracle_Home/bin/dbua:
DBUA will show 2 options:
=)> upgrade ASM instance.
=)> upgrade the database
8) Select [upgrade ASM instance] option. The DBUA will upgrade your ASM instance to release 11g automatically.
9) Finally, please startup the databases that are using ASM as storage option.
Does anyone has experience upgrading 10g ASM for Non-RAC to 11gR2?
Thanks in advance.

Refer to the C++ Users Guide that comes with the compiler, the chapter on Building Libraries, which explains these points in more detail.
When you build a C++ shared library, you must explicitly list all the libraries that it depends on. Unlike building an executable, the CC -G command does not by default create dependencies on system libraries. Although not explained well in the Guide, you should be sure you get the shared (.so) versions of all libraries, not the static (.a) versions.
All C++ programs require at least libCrun and libc. Programs that use the C++ Standard library (using anything in the std namespace, like std::string) also need to link to the appropriate version of the library.
The default library is libCstd. If you compile using the optional STLport library, you need the libstlport instead. You cannot use both libCstd and libstlport in the same program.
In your case, the build command would look something like this, assuming you are using the default libCstd:
CC -G -o mylib.so ..... -library=Cstd,Crun -lc
Be sure that any preceeding -Bstaic option is followed by -Bdynamic before listing these system libraries.
To verify you have picked up the dynamic libraries, run the command
ldd mylib.so
to see a list of dependencies. If you don't see the following in the list
/usr/lib/libCstd
/usr/lib/libCrun
/usr/lib/libc (or /lib/libc)
something is wrong.
A note about LD_LIBRARY_PATH: don't use it.
Ideally, the environment variable should never be set. If you must set it to reach vendor-supplied libraries, never put the system directories /lib or /usr/lib on the path, and never put the compiler installation directory, like /opt/SUNWspro/... on the path. You can wind up forcing the runtime loader to seach directories in the wrong order and pick up inappropriate versions of libraries.
For more on LD_LIBRARY_PATH, read this note in Rod Evans' blog. He's the Sun linker expert. The material here is available in the manuals, but his blog has a nice summary.

Dear XML team,
I am using the SAX parser version 2.0.2.4. When parsing a valid
XML of approx. 3,5 Megabytes i get a fatal error XML-0121
saying 'End tag does not match start tag
<CORRESPONDENTIENAAM1>...'
We checked the xml on the well formedness with tools like XML
Spy and IE5. The XML is valid!
We did some testing on the XML with the SAXSample class and we
noticed that the error is related to the use of Entity
References. When we removed the Entity Reference ' the XML
was parsed correctly.
We also noticed that if we cut the XML in two smaller parts it
was also parsed correctly.
I attached the output of the parser, as well as the output of
the SAXSample class.
I hope you can fix this problem!
With kind regards,
Rolf van Deursen.

• Fatal Syntax Errors Unique to XCode Compile

I am attempting to bring a Unix library into an XCode project for iPad and compile it. This Unix library compiles for i386 without any problems when I use gcc from Terminal, which is v4.2. However, when I attempt to compile those same sources from within the XCode project, I receive hundreds of fatal syntax errors, even though I it is still compiling to i386, and it is still using GCC 4.2. Here is an example declaration where it gives an error:
The Code:
int memcmp(const void *, const void *, size_t);
The error:
Expected declaration specifiers or '...' before '(' token
I must admit I am just now reading my introduction to Objective-C, so it is possible that there is a syntax error there according to some strict guidelines. The above code is actually C, but I did not worry about this because I was not expecting to extensively modify this library.
How is the XCode compile so different from using Apple's built-in GCC 4.2 that I receive hundreds of fatal syntax errors from within XCode, but it compiles with only a few warnings from the command line?

At the moment, I am having difficulty compiling libpng. libpng does not appear to like Apple's custom stdio.h header file.
What errors are you getting? I'm pretty sure I've build this library before, although not for iOS. Building for iOS shouldn't be much different than any cross-platform build, such as when building 32-bit on a 64-bit machine.
I tried it myself and couldn't get the configure script to do it all. Those things never work when you need them to. I had to hack up the Makefile and libtool file. Here is a patch file:

It seems to work:
file ./.libs/libpng12.0.dylib
./.libs/libpng12.0.dylib: Mach-O dynamically linked shared library arm
You don't need to create static libraries. Just use the "installnametool" to change the location of the dynamic libraries to @executable_path and include the required libraries inside your application bundle.

If you have problems with the DBUA and you cannot properly run it, instead of using the GUI approach you may
consider the MANUAL upgrade with the scripts!
The DBUA calls the same scripts you have to run with the manual method but in a more Next-Next Wizard.
For me DBUA is a great tool for Windows, but with Linux-Unix i prefer the Manual upgrade with the scripts

• X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatality and external deco

Hello. I have problems with my X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatality. I connect the sound car to a external Denon decoder?with a RCA Coxial cable. I listen the sounds of computer, but i don?t have dolby or dts sound. In DVD sound in DOLBY ok using Power DVD for example. But, in HD avis for example with AC3, the decoder don?t detect the 5. sound. Looking in Creative online Help I view thar the Creative Console have a option of Dolby and DTS where i can put the mode passthrough to use a external decode, but in my creative consolo this option don?t appear. I probe to uninstall and install again the drivers but don?t work. What happen? How I can resolve??p.d: Sorry for my english, but I don?t speak english. THANKS?EDIT: I have Windows XP SP2Message Edited by tusqui on -05-200702:52 AM

Sorry to hear of your problem, the same thing happened to me when I made the mistake of downloading a "new" driver from the Microsoft Update Website. It was not the proper driver for our soundcard and changed registry settings that shut off the S/PDIF output.
The Problem--this model soundcard does not use hardware to process Dolby Digital or DTS. That is why you are getting Dolby Digital and DTS when you use Cyberlink DVD, the Cyberlink program is decoding it using software.
The Solution--My Digital (S/PDIF) out to external processor worked fine until the Microsoft Update incident.
I shall presume that your problems are also driver related. I tried going back to a restore point...no good.
I tried erasing all remnants of the soundcard driver, and reinstalling from the original CD ROM...no good.
I then entered the registry, and using the search function found all entries which contained the letters S/PDIF, I then looked for those that were shut off (0) and switched them on (). Unfortunately I did all of them at once, so I do not know for sure which ones need to be turned on. However, the good news is then the external processor showed it was receiving raw Dolby Digital and DTS signals.
My Advice--Try going back to a restore point first, if unsuccessful, follow by the deletion of all Soundblaster drivers and reload using your original Soundblaster CD ROM, lastly, if nothing else worked, and you know your way around the registry, use my solution. Important Note--If you are not familiar with the registry--DO NOT MONKEY WITH IT. You could cause much greater problems than you already have.
However, as with all things regarding computers, what worked for me may not work for you. If your sound card never outputted raw Dolby Digital and DTS signals, than perhaps it is a hardware defect. In my case, everything worked until that dog gone Microsoft put that (new) driver out. I will never again use any hardware drivers posted on Microsoft Update. I might suggest going back and reading through the older post on this website, this problem came up right after the Microsoft incident, it was unfortunate that I did not see the post before performing the destructi've download. I hope this information helps in some way.
Good Luck!

• Upgrade with DBUA to 12c hangs while upgrade.xml does not generated

Hi together,
actually I've an upgrade problem with dbua. At a server with Oracle Linux 6 I've running an 121.0.2 GI. in that GI there are two Oracle Homes: one 12.1.0.2 wih PSU1 and one 11.2.0.4 with PSU4. I'm trying to upgrade the database "testdb" from 11.2.0.4 to 12.1.0.2 with dbua.
So I'm logged in and set all session parameters to the new 12.1.0.2 home:
$ export ORACLE_HOME=/usr/local/oracle/product/12.1.0.2/
$ export PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/bin:$PATH
After that I start the dbua. i select my testdb and wait. And still wait..... After selecting the db and dbua has getting al the database information he will hang at 0% by "Run Pre Upgrade Utility". But why?
So I've looked into trace.log from dbua:
oracle@testserver- DB_12_1_0_2:/usr/local/oracle/cfgtoollogs/dbua/testdb/upgrade2
$ ll

In the trace.log he tells me, that he weren't able to create a file called upgrade.xml and throws a java exception:

Yep they are! The own group they weren't in was the asmadmin group. Amusingly I had to add them both to the asmadmin group, so that the upgrade.xml was created with the oracle 12c user and group oinstal and not with oracle 11g user and group asmadmin. I can't tell you really, why, because it is a little bit confusing why he generate a file with the correct group when I add that group to the user, which was assigned wrong before to the file ?!?!

Hi David,
Thanks for your response.
No, I am not using any native code in my application. But in my
application boot-up, I am spawning lot of threads (around 25).
I am not sure if using -Xthinthreads would help (I am not using
it)...but anyways I feel even if -Xnativethreads(default) is
used this error should not occur.
I guessed that this could be related to memory issue and then I tried to reproduce
this issue with a simple program where I was spawning 5 threads, and in a while
loop just sleeping.
The sample program is as below.
import java.io.*;
public class Memtest {
public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception{
int count = Integer.parseInt(args[0]);
for (int i=0; i<count; i++) {
InnerThread t = new InnerThread();
t.start();
static class InnerThread extends Thread {
public void run() {
System.out.println("Thread started....");
try {
while(true) {
Thread.currentThread().sleep(2000);
}catch(Exception e){
I kept on running this program with different min/max memory
values. I was running lot of other processes on my system and my
system was very low on memory(even virtual).
I saw the below error when I ran my sample program (after trying
it for nearly 2 hrs). Here if you notice, it was not able to
start even a single thread (As the thread started message din't
appear)
D:\Thiru\javatest\jrockit>C:\JRockit\7.0\1.4.0\bin\java -Xms205m -Xmx205m Memtest

And then another time, I saw this other error (attached file jvm-

system had enough free memory. So, I am not sure if this is
anything related to memory also but definitely feel is a bug in

Hi Thiru,
I can't say as we have seen this one before. Perhaps if we had more
information we could work on finding the cause and produce a fix and/or
workaround for you.
Do you have any idea as to where in your code the problem is occuring
Does your application use native (JNI) code ?
If the problem seems completely random we could take a look at your
application.

Ok - you've probably seen this before. Basically, my girlfriend was working at her laptop whereupon it suddenly gave her this error. She doesn't know what she was doing immediately prior to this event, and now it gives her this message whenever she attempts to log on. It seems to happen literally just before the box pops up asking for her login info. I'm basically trying to retrieve her files for her. (or salvage the entire thing - although this appears increasingly unlikely!). Here is a list of what I have tried to do...
(This was originally intended as a letter for someone who is a lot better than me with computers, but the girlfriend forgot to drop the computer off last time she was in the city - we live in the sticks.)

Computer gets fatal system error c000021a status of 0x00000000( 0x00000000, 0x00000000 )
Tried to load up through safe mode, etc, same blue screen.
Tried the restore cd but it said it was the wrong one for this particular machine. However, by validating with the restore cd I'm able to access the OS set up screen.
From here, I tried to do a windows repair. Repair seemed to complete successfully, but I still got the blue screen on boot.
I then tried going through the recovery console with the intention of copying her files to a memory stick before reformatting. It seems I needed to set a number of variables, (eg. allowallpaths and allow removable media). However, I was unable to use the 'set' command (eg. Set allowremovablemedia =TRUE) since set is disabled. It seems that the security policy needs to be changed, but that this can only be done through windows rather than the recovery console. You can change it through the registry if you can infact access and change registry values from the recovery console.
After this, I did a chkdsk /p which revealed some errors, which I repaired (chkdsk /r), but this still had no effect.
I also tried to do automated system recovery but it wanted the asr disk inserted into the a: which I don't think we have. I was expecting it to allow me to specify a drive to save a backup to (hence use a memory stick), but again, I think this might only be possible from within windows. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Other thing to note is she is running service pack 2 (she thinks). I know this is SP3 forum, but I was pointed in this direction!
ANy help would be much appreciated. I've been searching the web for about 3 days for a solution, and plus I can't seem to find anywhere helpful with the exact same error message.

that error code means Bug Check 0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED. A restore wont fix it but a clean instal from the OS CD'S would. Does she have the OS cd's? Does she have a backup? Can she boot into safe mode (F8??)?
