  • Permission denied :Oracle 10g on RHEL4

I am using ubuntu 10.10 and Virtualbox installed on it.I have installed red hat (RHEL4) on virtualbox. When i try to run the oracle installer from the cdrom i get the following error "permission denied".I am have tried to edit fstab entry in /etc but it didnt worked.I am only getting a read permission and unable to chmod it.

Automount does not mount cd/dvd rom media with execute privileges.
If you prefer a permanent solution, you can try the following:
Find the following line in /etc/auto.misc:
    cd              -fstype=iso9660,ro,nosuid,nodev :/dev/cdrom
and add exec so it look like:
cd              -fstype=iso9660,ro,nosuid,nodev,exec :/dev/cdromI usually add the Oracle to root sudoers (visudo command), at least for the duration of the install. Then simply do:
    - Insert DVD or mount iso in Virtualbox
    - Oracle User: sudo umount /dev/cdrom
    - Oracle User: sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media
If you see "runinstaller" instead of "runInstaller" you may have some hybrid dvd and you can try the following:
    sudo mount -o loop,norock /dev/cdrom /media

    Dear all,
how to genrate and check WAIT STATISTICS in oracle 10g on RHEL4.

Oracle Kernel keeps track of these statistics. Query v$waitstat for overall system level wait statistics or v$session_wait for individual session wait statistics.

    Hi,
I am struggling to find a laptop supporting Oracle 10g on RHEL4 update 2. Though the Redhat HCL shows some laptops... those are all outdated.
Now, I do find laptops supporting RHEL 5 workstation version. Is Oracle 10g supported on such desktop version ? Kindly help me find a Laptop for personal purpose.
I am fine to have it Dual boot with Windows Vista / XP but equally want to ensure that it supports the OS as well. Please help me find one such personal Laptop !!!

    Hi
This message should be in the linux section. Linux format wrote a quite good article on the issue 105 http://www.linuxformat.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=NewArchives&issue=105

  • Remote execution of DTS packages from Java Stored Procedures

I'm an Oracle 10G DBA and Linux/Unix Sysadmin looking for a Java guru to help me find a reusable template or locate a solid programming methodology (examples) that will enable me to connect via JDSI to SQL Server 2000/2005 and remotely execute DTS packages from within Oracle. I am working at office that's absolutely addicted to MicroSlop products and the DBA team cannot conceive of giving up their precious DTS packages. I've already converted their MS SQL Server 2000 database to Oracle 10G on RHEL4 via SQLDeveloper but I am unschooled in the art of java programming and would like to locate some sort of rudimentary template or examples or java class that can easily be loaded into the Oracle 10G database instance via the loadjava utility. These java classes/methods/stored procedures need to be executable from within embedded PL/SQL code and able to connect to SQL Server 2000 to execute DTS packages via passing dtsrun commands ... Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Ilford:
Sure you can use fully package notation in your Java classes.
Look at this Java source code:
    http://dbprism.cvs.sourceforge.net/dbprism/cms-2.1/src/com/prism/cms/core/
All of them are Java Stored procedures.
    Best regards, Marcelo.

  • Oracle and business object!

    hi!
we have oracle 10g on rhel4.
we do have business object XI
even if i have restricted the permissions for the users, why do i see all the schemas and there objects like CTXSYSM, DBSNMP, SYS when i connect throught the universe of BUSINESS OBJECT XI.
may be it is because by default all users have the privileges which the pseudo role PUBLIC has and when we install oracle, there are so many privileges like insert, update, delete, select on many objects in the schemas which are given to public by default.
can i seperate a user from the public privileges?
kind of ... revoking public (role) from the user???
    thanks

since public pseudo role has a lot of privileges (select, insert, execute, delete) on many of the objects in CTXSYS, SYS, DBSNMP schemas. Also a user can run a select on ALL_ and USER_ tables and views from the dictionary.
can i restrict a user to view the ALL_ and the USER_ views from the dictionary and should see only the objects which i give explicit priviliges.
also can i revoke the privileges which are defaultly given to PUBLIC from a user???
(all users have the privileges which are there with PUBLIC, and defaultly PUBLIC has a lot of privileges at database creation time)
please help me to resolve the security threat!
    thanks

  • Know IP Address

    Hello Experts,
I want your help. Is there any way so that we can know the IP address from which a particular data has been modified in a table? We have not enabled Auditing .

No way. Unless you enable auditing at database level or audit modifications at application level.

  • Small Concept Buildup in regard to different Sessions of sqlplus..

    Hi,
    I am using Oracle 10g over RHEL4..
I have opened two sessions of sqlplus through different Terminal windows.. Now the issue that I am facing is listed below..
I made one sql file which contains some select query under one Terminal prompt.. Now i tried executing the same file from Other terminal prompt in sqlplus hr/hr,, it doesn't reflects the data instead when i did sqlplus hr/hr again(after exiting, then logging),, then it retrieved the actual data that i saved in the sql file under first Terminal prompt..
This happens everytime, i.e. every time I made some changes in the file under first Terminal prompt, and tried executing the one in other Terminal Prompt, then it reflects the previous data onlyy.. After i exit the session, and logged in again as hr/hr, then it reflects the actual data..
Please share the logic behind this..
    Thanks in advance..
    Rahul

The logic is one of the most basic of concepts in the Oracle database and one you must learn before you can have any hope of being successful. Oracle does not allow dirty reads.
Go to the docs at http://tahiti.oracle.com and read the Concept docs paying special attention to the following keywords:
    SCN (system change number)
    COMMIT
    ROLLBACK
    TRANSACTION
    Multiversion Read Consistency
From the standpoint of the database in any other than the current session: Nothing is changed until you commit the transaction.

  • DBCA doesn't see a newly created database

    Hello,
I installed Oracle 10g on RHEL4. I created a database called ORCL during installation. Then I created another one, called TEST, using DBCA.
Both databases are up and running, but when I enter DBCA again and want to configure/drop database it sees only ORCL, TEST - not.
    Can anybody help me?
    A.

There's only one entry in oratab:
    orcl:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/orcl
I guess there should be one for my test db and there isn't. I can enter it manually of course, but what path should I enter? There isn't
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/test
because I did only create a database.
I remember that when I created TEST database there was an error, something like "unable to write /tmp/oratab to /etc/oratab". But there was no file called "oratab" in /tmp then.
User, his right and pathes are correct - Oracle soft and first database were installed successfully, there's is only one problem - with the second db.
    Thx in advance
    A.
