1142N Mounting Position

Quick question about a survey I did yesterday.  walked in and noticed that all the access points were wall mounted about 2 feet off the ground.  The coverage wasn't bad, but I recommended they relocate the APs, to the ceiling as well as well as a few other things.  Checking online I've noticed differing opinions about relocating the access points with some people saying since they are omni-directional orientation doesn't matter, but I would still believe mounting it so close to an obstruction would be an issue?

This is a topic that confused me and I spent a while pondering myself. From what I can determine, whilst the 1142/3502/3602 etc APs with internal radios are "omnidirectional" (360 degrees) it is only on the horizontal plane whilst on the vertical plane it is 180 degrees. This means that should you have the AP mounted on a wall it will be sending out a signal in a 360 degree pattern across floors above/below it and will have a strong signal in front of it but not as much behind (there will still be RF bleed and coverage behind due to reflection of radio waves etc).
If the AP is mounted on the ceiling, the signal will push out on a 360 degree range in what is best described as a donut pattern so imagine that the AP is at the center of a giant donut that expands outwards as the power increases. This will result in less cross-floor interference and provide more efficient coverage across each area (unless there's a specific need for wall mounted APs).
One option to save money on re-cabling all your areas is to install right angle mounting brackets on the walls to mimic ceiling placement:

    I managed to run the DBUA woithout any problem .
    I left the upgrade process running and came back to check .I tried to start the database with 10g.
    I was able to mount database but open database was failing.
    I ran the sqlplus while db was in mount position.

    but the alert log file was giving the error
    ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
    ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option
    I started the database with sql
    startup upgrade    and ran below sql.

    ORACLE instance started.

  • My IPod won't accept my verified AppleID, what do I do?

    I am very new to Apple products (Aside from using Macs in  ), and just got my first Ipod yesterday. I started my AppleID with my email address like anyone else and verified it. Briefly though, today I switched it to another email address I have. Finally deciding against it, I decided to switch back to the original email address I had used when I got it yesterday. But when I switched it, Itunes kept asking me to verify my AppleID through the original email. I had already done this when I started my account, so I could not do it again. Now I can't buy or download anything because my ITunes or my IPod keeps demanding I verify something that has been previously been verified. What can I do? I can download stuff on my computer through ITunes, but it doesn't work on my IPod. This *****...

    The drive is not grabbing the discs?
    Is the drive just not letting you insert the discs?
    There is one thing you can try before going the external drive direction.
    The first thing that I would attempt is to reset the optical drive’s eject mechanism. To do this, you’ll need to connect a wired, USB mouse to your computer. Then, tell your iMac to shut down. Once the machine is powered off, hold your mouse button down and re-power your iMac.
    Keep the mouse button held down until you reach the login window. You should hear the optical drive perform one full eject cycle. At that point, you can release the mouse button, log in, and try insert a disk in the drive.
    If this doesn't work, the cost of repairing the original drive maybe comparable or, most likely, more expensive to repair than just adding an external optical drive. And there is no guarantee that the internal optical drive won't fail, again, as the slot loading drives in iMacs have a tendency toward premature failure. It is not a very good drive to begin with and optical drives don't really like being mounted in a upright, vertical mounting position.
    With external optical drives, there are many price and quality levels. You can purchase a cheap drive knowing that in less than a couple of years, it could fail and need a new replacement OR purchase a more expensive , but better quality drive that is more durable and designed to last longer.

  • Drop temp tbs without end

    Hi,
    Database is Oracle 8.1.7.4 about Windows NT.
    I have a temporary tablespace with a datafile wich take more than 2Go.
    I would like to create another temp tablespace locally managed with a tempfile to replace the first.
    When I drop the old temp tablespace (with a datafile) this take more than 30 minutes, and I didn't wait more, I killed this session.
    Why this one take to many time ? How can I make to make this quickly ?

    To run your database you need one temporary tablespace available and the method which you can use is that first create a temporary tablespace first and then make it your default temporary tablespace bounce your database in mount position and then make your newly created tablespace your default temporary tablespace and then open the database and drop the old one.

  • Now i see it, now i don't

    as per my previous question, i installed an 80GB harddrive in my G3 tower. i then erased the original 4GB harddrive and had intentions of using it as simple storage. it order to do this easily, i unplugged the cd drive (not the power, the other cable), connected the old harddrive and erased it, all was well. when i adheard the 4GB drive in place, and reattacted the cd drive, i no longer see the 4GB drive. whenever i unplug the cd drive i am able to see the harddrive, what the heck is going on?! (i also have a floppy drive in the computer, both drives need to stay)

    You didn't indicate the type of beige G3 that you have - desktop or mini-tower. If the latter, you can easily connect two hard drives in a master/slave configuration to the same ribbon cable if:
    (1) The ROM version is $77D45F1 (Rev. B) or $77D45F2 (Rev. C). Using the Apple System Profiler, scroll down to Production information, and the ROM version will be listed. If it's $77D40F2, you have a Rev. A ROM that doesn't support dual drives on a single ATA channel.
    (2) The two drives are configured correctly, with one being "master" and the other "slave." This is done with small jumpers, that plug into the drive's configuration pins in a specific manner, which varies from one manufacturer to another.
    You undoubtedly left the 4 GB drive with its factory-configuration of master. If it's connected to the same ribbon cable as the new hard drive or the optical drive, only one device can be set as master and one as slave. The CD-ROM drive is factory-configured as master, so if the 4 GB drive is connected to the same ribbon cable, then change its configuration to "slave." With both set as master, the hard drive will not be recognized when the optical drive is connected. When the optical drive is disconnected, the hard drive will be recognized. Hopefully, you have connected/disconnected the drives with the computer powered OFF.
    If you have the desktop G3, remove the hard drive from the floor-mounted position and install both hard drives in the two bays, beside the optical drive. This would involve eliminating the Zip drive, if your G3 has one. There is no feasible way to connect two hard drives to the same ATA channel, with one mounted on the chassis floor and the other in the upper drive bay. The physical separation between the two drives and the cable length needed to connect both of them, causes too much data corruption.

  • Cannot Save Notes-Help Please

    I have experienced this problem intermittently in the past, but now things seem to be really stuck. I go to Mail and open a new Note. In the past, when I was finished I would hit the "Done" button and the note would appear in my "Notes" box under "Reminders". Right now when I try this I get the message "Error. This Note could not be saved."
    Beginning in the fall I started having a problem with the program creating "extra" intermediate notes under the same name throughout the day. I also started experiencing Notes disappearing totally after hitting the "Done" button. Sometimes they would show up in strange places in various "Mail" in/out/trash boxes. Sometimes I even found them on my iPhone in my AOL inbox.
    I would really appreciate any thoughts as I've been using this as my primary note taking tool.

    While you might have damaged the drive, but because of how they are vertically mounted in the iMac and maybe some heat related issue, the drive could've simply just failed. Its time has come.
    Tthe internal optical drives in the aluminum style iMacs because of there mounting position seem to be prone to failure.
    Your AppleCare has long since expired.
    You have two options. You can pay to have the drive removed and replaced with a new internal drive and risk another premature failure. At least your iMac will have a brand new internal optical drive.
    OR forget about the internal drive and look for and purchase an external third party optical drive that will be much better built and last longer and you can use this drive again when and if you decide to upgrade to a newer Mac or iMac model.
    Another note. If you decide to have an Apple tech replace the internal optical drive, you might ask if possible, how much to install a larger hard drive into this iMac since they have to tear down the entire iMac anyhow.

  • My SuperDrive on my iMac won't load any typre of DVD or CD and is shaded,How about a fix?

    SO when I try to load a DVD or CD in the slot on the side, my SuperDrive just ejects the disc. Any fixes out there. I notice that the SuperDrive is shaded in the about my Mac.

    You could try a commercially or retail available CD/DVD dry brush lens cleaning disc to see if this revives the drive.
    If not, It maybe your internal optical drive is dead.
    This is a common occurrence in iMacs. The optical drive is, usually,,the first piece of hardware to fail.
    Optical drives don't work very well in the vertical mounted position. That ans the heat inside the iMac are, usually, the cause of a failed SuperDrive in iMacs.
    You can either pay to have the internal optical replaced, or purchase an external optical drive plugged into your iMac.These come in a lot of price and quality levels.
    iMHO, the more expensive and durable tray loading drives have much better quality and longevity than slot-loading optical drives. You'll have to decide yourself what you want to use ii you go with using an external drives.
    Some users buy cheap external optical drives,,knowing in a year or two they will have to replace it. Others, like myself, would rather spend more money on a more durable drive that will last longer than a year or two with regular use.
    I'll leave these decisions to you.

    As you say that u have lose the folder then follow the following steps
    1.Bring the database in mount position
    and execute first this cmd
    2.alter database drop logfile group(Number);
    3.alter database add logfile group 11
    ('/oracle/<SID>/origlogA/log_g11_m1.dbf',
    '/oracle/<SID>/mirrlogA/log_g11_m2.dbf') size 50M;
    4. open database with resetlogs

  • Cannot read discs, help please?

    Hi, any suggestions would be wonderful, but this is the current case:
    I have an iMac that I purchased back in 2007. Literally, I just installed snow leopard a week ago, and the next time I inserted a disc into my drive - the disc got stuck. And this was very bad of me, but I took a card and gently jimmied the disc till it came out. I have never had this problem till I installed snow leopard onto it. So now whenever I put a disc in - it doesn't mount, and I hear the drives trying to read the disc, but it only spits out the disc after thirty seconds or so. Also, I have tried many different discs, and it is all the same case. They are all spit out. Help please? Should I just take it into the Apple Store?

  • F210 question

    As a new owner I quickly realised the F210 mounting is fairly hopeless and rather insecure. All videos are recorded in excellent quality complete with continuous vibration.
    My question is can the video be recorded upside down. What I mean is can I mount the camera using a different system which may end up with the camera upside down to normal. Some cameras allow this to happen and just record correctly regardless of  the mounting position. IE. turn the camera 180 degrees and the picture turns with it like an iphone.
    There should be a setting somewhere but I cant find it.
    Other wise the camera seems quite good. Just the mounting is crap.

  • Removing the vesa mount - unlock the stand position?

    I'm taking my iMac back to the apple store to get an issue with the display fixed (smudging in the top corners - grr) but first I need to remove my vesa mount and put the original stand back on so I can take it to my appointment.
    I have got the original stand back on, but the mount is still in the extended, locked position. Does anyone know how I unlock the position of the bracket so that my iMac no longer faces down at my desk and it's position (angle) is free to be adjusted by hand once again?

    ah, found the link below (why is it often so difficult to find things on these forums?) - it really is just a matter of pushing in and down with the card to press the latch (which you can just about see above the bracket) until you here a click and then all is well again.
    Probably would of been good for apple to put those instructions in the manual that came with the bracket...

    In this case you don't want to locate it in the basement.
    Locate the router on the main floor preferably in a window open to the back yard. Exterior wall material such as Stucco or metal siding will require using a windows because of the metal or mesh.

  • K7T26 Pro2A Mounting Hole Positions

    I know this may sound silly but can somebody please tell me if, when installing this motherboard, you only use the six mounting holes on the board (the ones with the silver ring around them).  6 doesnt seem many and it seems to me that the EIDE connections are not supported.  I've looked on upteen web sites and in the manual but all it says is there are 6 holes.  There are some more holes but they seem small and do not match any holes in my case.

    If it says there are 6, thats all you get.

  • Can I prevent mounted volume Finder windows opening on startup?

    I look after a studio with about 10 Macs, some of which are running OSX 10.4.11. We automatically mount 3 network volumes containing client data at startup. The Finder always opens a window for each volume but I want to prevent this from happening.
    In Finder preferences I can prevent the volume icons from appearing on the desktop but the Finder still opens a window for each one at startup when the volumes are mounted..
    How can I control this action?

    This is a hack, but you can try to use xtool to close the windows. I place the following script in my login items. You may want to put in a delay of some sort.
    You may also try iKey.
    I use iKey to remap the keys. It has a little more function then youpi key. For many years, I used youpi key before switching to iKey.
    You might like iKey/youpi key. I have my frequently used applications set to f keys. The same f key starts an application and switches to the application.
    Youpi key is free. It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported. There is a commercial version you can buy, called iKey.

  • Is it possible to mount a physical disk (/dev/mapper/ disk) on one of my Oracle VM server

    I have a physical disk that I can see from multipath -ll  that shows up as such

    That particular is visible in the OVMM Gui as a physical disk that I can present to one of my VMs but currently its not presented to any of them.
    I have about 50 physical LUNs that my Oracle VM server can see.  I believe I can see all of them from a fdisk -l, but "dm-115" (which is from the multipath above) doesnt show up.
    This disk has 3 usable partitions on it, plus a Swap.
    I want to mount the 3rd partition temporarily on the OVM server itself and I receive
    # mount /dev/mapper/3600c0ff00012f4878be35c5401000000p3 /mnt
    mount: you must specify the filesystem type
    If I present the disk to a VM and then try to mount the /dev/xvdx3 partition -it of course works.  (x3 - represents the 3rd partition on what ever letter position the disk shows up as)
    Is this possible?

    Its more of the correct syntax. Like I can not seem to figure out how to translate the /dev/mapper path above into what fdisk -l shows. Perhaps if I knew how fdisk and multipath can be cross referenced I could mount the partition.

    How to translate the /dev/mapper address into the correct fdisk, I think I can then mount it.
    If I try the same command as before with the -t option it gives me this error.
    # mount -t ext3 /dev/mapper/3600c0ff00012f48791975b5401000000p3 /mnt
    mount: special device /dev/mapper/3600c0ff00012f48791975b5401000000p3 does not exist
    I know I am close here, and feel it should be possible, I am just missing something.
