I´m looking for the solution for a very annoying problem. I have a macbook pro and my boyfriend has a macbook. We are booth using apple bluetooth keyboards. The problem is that it now often happens that his keyboard is trying to connect to my macbook pro and vice versa. Before i bought my btkeyboard we paired his bt keybord to my and we first thpught it had to do with that. But after a complete reinstall av the os, the problem remains. It is very disturbing because I have chose "deny connection" all the time while I´mworking. Or it happens that the bluetooth keyboard wakes the other ones Macbook/Pro. My keyboard is also communicating with his macbook time to time and I don´t remember that we ever paired them.
Is there someway to solve this problem. There must be thousand of people working with bluetooth devices in the same environment (area of 10 meters or whatever) or do we have to go back to wired keyboards for integrity?

Have you completely deleted the Bluetooth pairing from the Bluetooth system preferences pane for the keyboard you don't want to use?

I’ve looked around Google and here and I can’t find a definitive answer to my question so hopefully you guys can give me some advice
I bought the Office package in 2011 when it was new and installed it on my Macbook. I now plan to buy an iMac for the purpose of studying so I'd like to remove it from my Macbook and transfer it to the new Mac. My Macbook is running on the current highest software (the name escapes me at present, I'm not on it to check) and I assume the Mac will be too. If I were to uninstall everything, would I be able to use the same disc (i.e. same unique code) on the other computer? I believe I only have the 1 disc 1 Mac version so can't have two running with the same software.
Ideally I'd not like to buy another Office package so any advice would be much appreciated. I realise I may not have much choice though...!

New Mac's come with OS X 10.8 so you would have to check compatibility of your software with the new OS X versions.

Next you will have to check if the software will install or not on 10.8 from the disk, since the disk is static it can't change for newer OS X versions, however the software itself might run fine if a more recently updated version is downloaded and installed, then the license key entered.
Far as licensing concerns, you will have to check with the developer how to go about deauthorizing, uninstalling and getting a new license key for the new machine or if you can continue to use the existing one.
Most licenses are for one machine, however some can be multiple machine packs.
If you don't exactly need Office specifically to work with other Office users, you can also install the free LibreOffice and it can open your Office files.
The thing with Office is it's widely used in businesses, so if you learned it already then it doesn't make much sense to continue using it and paying money for only personal use.

LibreOffice is truly cross platform, Linux, OS X and Windows. The files are easily exchange and many Mac users are thrilled using it apparently as the developers have commented a great deal of Mac users are installing it.
If you have trouble installing, it's likely Gatekeeper security that's on the new 10.8 machines, simply hold control key and click on the installer/program and select "Open" and it will remmeber it's a trusted program from then on.

Make macbook and iphone dont receive same messages

How can I set up my macbook and/or iphone so that if "message" on my macbook is open, then iphone would stop receiving messages, i.e. I will not need to look at the same messages on iphone that I've already looked at on my macbook.

I am new to the Apple environment but an advanced user of Windows. I currently teach Senior Citizens how to use a computer with windows. However, there are some seniors that have either a MacBook or iPad and would like to learn how to use them as well. Therefore, I'd like to offer to have a training class that includes both of these products together. Do both products contain the same basic type of applications such as; Mail, Address, Calendar, Photo Booth, iChat, etc...? I know that Safari is the same.
I want to be able to give both types of users a good understanding on how to do things such as; using Mail, surfing the web, etc... I noticed though that sometimes the steps taken to do something on a MacBook is different on an iPad. I would appreciate it if anyone can give me advise on how to approach this type of class.

Maybe after you have spent time with MacBook Pro, iPhone and iPad yourself and used iOS 5.1 and soon to be iOS 6. Send the students to an Apple Store training seminars. Knowing Windows, maybe prepare students for Windows Metro and Windows tablet or something more familiar.
Even though iOS look and feel has invaded Mountain Lion, they are not the same in any way. In name and looks only is Safari really the same.

I keep trying to re-download Mac OS X Lion to my Macbook, and repeatedly get this same error message

When I power on my Macbook it automatically takes me to the recovery screen where I am faced with four options. I click on the option to reinstall Mac OS X Lion. It prompts me to enter my Wifi information. I do so then it prompts me for my Apple e-mail and password. I enter this then it tries to connect to the server and I keep getting told “This item is temporarily unavailable, please try again later” message. I have been doing this for days, when exactly will later be? I regret ever buying anything Apple with all of the hoops they make you jump through to do the simplest of things. I just want to fix this I can rid myself of this machine. Thank you in advance.

Yes you can. They coexist and you can use them both together. They will have different preferences in System Preferences so you can select your options for each.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I ran the first aid in the Keychain both for verification and for repair and both immediately returned with "no problems found".
As for the certificate, according the web administrator nothing had changed for the certificates.
even on the windows laptop I also get the certificate as being expired, but by simply accepting that I still have access.
I had a pop up every time that alerted me to the certificate issue, but whether I "continued" or not that still did not matter.
Yesterday, in an effort to find a solution, I went into the "details" and entered to trust this website.
Now that certificate issue does not pop up anymore. But I do not know how to reverse that either.

If you want to add a second partition to the internal drive (in Disk Utility, select the drive, then open the partition tab and just click the + button), you should first be sure that you will have enough room to accommodate whatever the second volume will be. I am currently doing this for Snow and Mountain Lion.
To get to whatever volume is not the startup disk, restart and hold down option/alt at the chime, which will bring up a selection of the two volumes. Use the left or right arrow keys to select it and then hit enter/return.

Try a restart of your entire system. Shut down both your modem and your router if they are two separate devices. Then restart each item one at a time with about three minutes between each device.
Also reset the iPad by pressing and holding the Start and Home keys together, ignoring there'd slider until the Apple logo appears.

You can connect the iPad to your Mac's iTunes and do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases, that should copy it over to the Movies part of your library.
Depending upon what country that you are in, and whether the film studio allows it, you might also be able to re-download it on your Mac via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page.

I repeatedly get "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshow" message. This process is the same on my iMac, MacBook and another iMac. I have been burning dvd's int he same way for the past 12 months using the exact same steps successfully.

I keep getting "error during rendering/encoding of menus/slideshows" message. I have been burning DVD's in exactly the same way for the past 12 months and mostly on my MacBook which is 3 years old. Obviously I'm using iDVD. I purchased an iMac about a year ago and moved to use this for dvd burning without problem. A few months ago (approximately) I started to experience problems with burning with the error message above. I tried everything including starting the whole process from scratch right down to capturing the movie clips from my video recorder into iMovie, then using them in iDVD. Still the same message came up. I lost count of how many times I repeated the process with different clips and variations and the same thing happened. This was also the case with my MacBook and my husband's iMac.
After taking both of mymac's tothe service centre, having new optical thingys put it and even a new hard drive on my iMac along with a new DVD burner the same thing happened. They told me it must be the process that I am using that is incorrect!
I took my 27" iMac to an apple shop and asked them to assist me while I use the same technique as I always had. The same message came up so they tried using my clips in one of their mac's. The same message. They tried it with different clips and the same message. The only way we could get theirs to work was with a magic DVD which did not produce what I needed and was limited with only one page.
I now cannot use any of my Mac's for the intended purpose that I bought them for - to produce good media for my work! It was suggested that I purchase some non Mac software to burn DVDs which defeats the object of having a mac with iDVD in my opinion. I have a book on iDVD which is very informative and have followed the process to the letter and checked all the trouble shooting and still no remedy. It was mentioned that an up-date may have caused the problem on all my macs.
I feel that this issue should be addressed by Apple as a matter of correctness.
I now find that on the net there are many posts in forums and such like with exactly the same (almost word for word) problems. Please Apple, keep/regain your good name and sort this out.

Thanks Bengt W for your attention to this matter. So much appreciated. And thanks for putting me right on the aim of forums (new to this). Although, you may regret asking for more information. I've added everything I can below.
The process I used is as follows:
Import recorded clips of between 5 and 15minutes each from my video recorder into i
Edit the clips (remove unwanted start and endng)
Add title to front of clips
‘Share’ them to ‘movie’ (export using QuickTime)folder in .mov format individually
Open iDVD and ‘create new project’
Select ‘favourite’ theme that I have set up forall my work dvd’s (this has been used successfully many times and I’ve triedwithout using the favourite them).
Add 2 submenus for each group of clips
Select submenu - drag and drop between 3 – 6 clips in each of the twosubmenus
Change title colours on clips
Dragand drop image into drop zones where required
In‘map’ view I check for any yellow warnings before burning to disc
In an attempt to remedy the problems I’ve tried the following:
Try new DVD discs
Try different themes (favourites and standardones)
Change images in drop zones
Start whole process again even from importingfrom camera again
Two other completely different computers (iMacand MacBook) with iDVD
Go to apple shop and use their computers to doin iDVD
Try with one clip and no menu pages added
Use a clip that I already have that did notoriginate from my camera
Turn computer off and restart
New hard drive
New optical lense (thing)
New DVD burner
Saving to disc image rather than dvd disc
Other points:
I also have a ‘flip’ and ‘iPhone’ whereI’ve imported footage camera which, although limited, records and makes videoclips and burns them to DVD through iDVD without problem.
For example, I have just gone through steps 5 - 11 using some clips that were already imported from my iphone to iPhoto and dragged across. I used a theme that I've used before which has failed and added one sub menu page where the clip went. It burned to disc image successfully.
The startup disc, I believe will have no space issues asit’s a new hard drive with no use apart from this. That could have been an issue before (I didn’t check it) butnot now.
Other technical stuff that I don't understand but you may:

Why will IMAP email not send from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail even though it is configured the same as on my old Macbook (and emails are sending just fine on the old computer)?

I can receive but cannot send IMAP email on my 1&1 mail account from Mac OS 10.10.1 Yosemite Mail on my new Macbook Pro. The account is set up the same port, password, username, server name as on my old Macbook and emails are sending just fine on the old computer.
When I hit send on the new Macbook Pro running Yosemite I get this message:
"The connection to host ... on port 993 failed.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."
It shows the server as (offline)
I've tried erasing and typing in the password. I've tried both checking and unchecking Automatically detect and maintain account settings. Still cannot send.
I also have a Gmail account and it is working...

email service uses an Incoming Server and an Outgoing Server. Mac Mail makes access to the Incoming Server(s) obvious, and hides the settings for the outgoing Server(s). A quick and easy way to get access to the Outgoing Servewr settings is to use:
Window > Connection Doctor ...
... then click on the red light for the Server that is not working for you to see its settings.

I'm not connected to the internet on my iPod but my brother is in the same room with his and he has internet. It wont let me join. Is this because my iPod memory is nearly full ? What can I do ? and b.t.w. the internet is working.

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Same Apple ID doesn't work between Macbook and iDevices

I only have one Apple ID. Bought an iPhone game on iTunes while using my Macbook (Republique). Now I can't buy in-app purchase (season pass) on my iPhone or my iPad because it's saying that this game was purchased with a different Apple ID.
I've also noticed this same "purchased with a different Apple ID" error message from my computer sometimes when I would try to update an app through iTunes when I bought it on my iPhone/iPad.
Also, my iTunes gift cards that I had redeemed under this Apple ID only seem to be usable through my Macbook and not my iPhone/iPad.
Also, the "Manage devices" page in iTunes on my Macbook only lists my Macbook under the devices, not my iPhone or iPad.
Also, my iTunes wish list is the same on my iPhone and iPad, but different on my Macbook.
What gives? How do I fix this?

So I just tried logging out and logging back in of iTunes on my computer. All of my devices seem to be on the same account now (the iPad/iPhone one), but I've lost ALL of my gift card money and now it won't update apps I bought previously on the same computer. How do I fix this?
