3-tier forms to n-tier forms
I posted a verbose thread earlier - I hope this will attract more responses.
We currently deploy forms 9i bespoke applications over our intranet via IE.
Our group has been asked to re-engineer our forms to meet the company's SOA vision.
Jdeveloper 10g looks like the way to go it seems to me. But how do we migrate our existing forms into the desired J2EE/SOA model?
Also, we have been asked to re-engineer a larg(ish) form (in a proof of concept) - to make use of external calls to manage all database DML (rather than rely on default mechanisms). Has anyone been asked to do this before - and what was the justification for it? If so, did it succeed, and what was the scale of effort?

Our architects have recognised the business logic currently wrapped up in our 9i forms (namely our fmb files). And they wish to publish this business logic through Java beans (as you state).
We have 250+ active forms in our bespoke application - all developed in our forms "shop" - many of which started out in life as forms3 (and even forms2) modules,
The current thinking is to replace all our forms operations (namely validation and record management (update,insert,delete - not query)) with calls to 'services' that will do this by proxy. The plan is that these services will not be deployed in an Oracle environment. The services - powered by JAVA - will reside on a remote IBM server (websphere).
I guess the goal for our forms 9i application is to re-engineer them so that they contain code to a) render screens on the client browser, b) perform all record management via external calls, c) perform all business logic by external calls, - but d) perform queries by a local (net9) connection.
We are therefore facing the prospect of writing external calls for all the record management operations that are currently executed by default mechanisms.
A comment on our stategy would be very much appreciated.

Problem with transfering unicode form data in MULTIPART/FORM-DATA
HI experts,
I have this web based multilingual application. Page 1(form6.jsp) is basic registeration form with 5 fields and one image upload to the server. Page 2(verify.jsp) is another jsp page for verification of UTF data entered in page 1.
page 2 (verify.jsp) also uses a bean called (verify.java) for picking up values. page 3(insertEntry.jsp) is the page for inserting that data into the Database and uses a bean called (logicbean.java).
Now, the problem im facing here is that if i use multipart/form-data, the unicode text filled in page1 is shown as garbage when its is transfered to page2 and displayed on page2. It is all gibberish. But if i do not use multipart/form-data, the unicode text transfered from page1 to page2 is displayed perfectly on page2.Im using devenagari(UTF) language for filling in details.

I have narrowed down the problem to the point where i understand that the "request.getParameter()" function for multipart is not able to understand or read UTF data properly. The out.println prints garbage from this function on the console. im using WAS

How to call a swing form from another swing form by clicking a button
i created a swing frame , this frame have a form and an internal form. in this form have 3 buttons OK , CANCEL , NEW. i created some other forms i.e OKFORM, CForm,NForm. i want to invoke the OkForm when i click OK Button, Similar implimentation for other buttons too. i want the button logic to invoke other form. please send reply ASAP.

Is it possible to call a 9i Forms from a 6i Forms ?
Hello,
I have a customer using CRM 11.5.10.2 ( Database 9.2.0.6 / 6i Forms) and will be created a functionality in the CRM screen, where end user will call (via button) a custom application running on 9i Forms.
Customer believes that there is a technical limitation to achieve that. That is, call a 9i Forms from a 6i Forms.
Is it possible to call a 9i Forms from a 6i Forms ?

Marcos Souza.I should have thought so, as Forms 9i is exclusively web-driven, so how you launch the URL is immaterial as long as you use a supported browser. As your Forms 9i apps will invariably be on a remote web server, you'll not encounter compatibility issues either. How do I add a Handwritten Signature to my form? And other Form Questions
Hi there,
I'm making a form for parents who's kids are going to drive a motorcycle for the first time.
Now I want to use my laptop with touchscreen for people to fill it in.
the normal boxes (name, adres etc) with keyboard.
But the important part is the SIGNATURE which has to be handwritten.
It's for insurance and legal autorisation from the parents that the kid is allowed to drive and they know the risks and rules.
How do I add a box in which parents can sign.
Or is there another solution to make it legal?
Another question now I might have someones attention:
After a parent is done filling the form and presses OK or DONE
Is there a way a parent can choose to use a new blank form or the same form again without date of birth/name/sex
so he/she can fill the forms faster for the rest of the kids?
OR
Is it possible to let a parents say I have 4 kids (with a choice menu)
and the parent wil get 4 name/age/sex openings and the rest of the form will stay the same?
And
Is it possible to export the whole bunch into a excel for easy usage

KimJust to share some info for this:
I used to do this sort of thing quite a bit. What I used was a scanner to scan my hand written signature to an image file. I would then paste the image file, which supported transparency, over the signature line. More recently, I used Photoshop to draw a signature saving in a transparent image file.
Just to warn you though: you are asking for legal advice, and you are not going to get that here. I would consult with an attorney to find out exactly what is legal. -
How can I pass data from a form guide to another form in a business process
How do we pass data from a form guide to another form(not necessarily a guide) without having to open the form. For example we have a small form guide to capture the contract id so we can then get data from contracts table to present to the user in a form. We want the user to open the guide (either Flex guide or form guide) to enter the contract id. Upon submission we want the process to get the contract data and put it into the form that will be opened at the next step by the user without having a user interact with the form to get the data into it. In other words we need the process to get the data and populate a different form than the form guide the contract id was entered in and this new form needs to be opened in the next step by the user.
Firstly, I'm assuming that you have a Forms ES Server if you are rendering a Guide. This could be either version ES1, ES2/2.5 or ES3/ADEP
If you submit the form back to the server, you can populate a second (PDF/XDP) form with the data bound to the same schema/Data Model using Forms ES.
You referred to the next user in the chain - If you are using Process Management, this is very easy, as you define what form is used to render the data in the "Presentation & Data" section of the Assign Task activity -
Installing a Forms & Report middle Tier (10.1.2) on a 10.1.3 farm
I have to install a new farm based on the 10.1.3 release. I will install the Infrastracture and one middle tier in two different Oracle Homes. The problem is that I need also Forms & Report Services, and we know that there will be no F&R services until release 11. The question is:
can I install a 10.1.2 middle tier instance on top of a 10.1.3 infrastructure (with a different Oracle Homve, of course)?

RinoAS 10.1.3 doesn't have any infrastructure (as well as not having Web Cache etc). The latest full release is 10.1.2.0.2, which includes infrastructure and Forms/Reports. For Identity Management, I'd recommend the new 10.1.4.
As indicated above, the latest Forms/Reports release is 10.1.2.0.2 (patched to 10.1.2.2), which is the one you should use. You can install either the full Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 with Forms/Reports, or use the Forms&Reports Only release.

Calling a form from the main form

As you can see here , i want to open a form, when i click on a subitem of ELEVI menu. so i did that, but that form is shown in the back of the main form.. i wanna that form being shown as a child form of the main form, or something like that..
also, i cannot close the second form, why?
the code for opening that form when clicking a submenu item is:

How to display the values in the form based on another form option?
Hi,
I have two forms. Based on form 1 option the form 2 should display.
Form 2 values are stored in a separate table consists of step_id and step_name
For example:
In a Procedure there are multiple steps(step1, step2... step n).
If procedure 1 is choosen from form 1 and user clicks the start button and the page navigates to another form 2.
In form 2, step 1 of procedure 1 should display.

1. On Page 1 on condition Proc1 chosen create a conditional branch that fires only when Proc 1 is chosen
2. In the Branch set the Items on Page 2 with values of Items as dictated by Proc 1.
That should do it.
It depends a lot on what Page 2 needs to dispaly the right stuff.

How can I pass a variable to a form to pre-fill form fields on load?
Hi all,
I am developing a Windows Form Applicaiton in C# to register new users and walk them through a signup process.The application does a lot of other things as well. This part of it collects their personal information and saves the data to the database. Part of the process requires the user to complete a pdf form (W-4 tax form). I would like to pre-populate as many form fields as possible for them when the pdf launches, and not have them enter anything to get their data to prefill the form fields.
My issue is I can't figure out how to get the pdf to know who is loading the form so I can do the SQL select and populate the form fields. I need to do a select * from Table where UniqueID="xxxxx" but how can I get the form to know on load what "xxxxx" is so it grabs the users personal info from the database?
I have searched high and low and found nothing on how to do this without doing some hoakey hack outside of the application or pdf doc.
I am creating/editing the form in LiveCycle Designer 8 and am loading the form for use by the user in acrobat 9.
Any help,ideas, or nudging in the right direction would be much appreciated!I found this solution:

FORMS 6i and referenced forms in the database and compilation
Hello everybody,
I must work on an existing FORMS 6i APPLICATION.
I'm using FORMS 6i patch 18 on an ORACLE DATABASE 10g.
When I open a form I've got the message 'to retrieve reference objects, you must connect to the database' ( I think subclassed objects ), I do it and I got the error 'Failed to load objects ....'
In fact, I realize that the form I have to modify contains some objects referenced in some ( 3 in fact ) fmb source files, after searching on the web I have to 'insert' these 3 forms in the database : I have done it.
Everything is OK now : no more error when opening the form, I modify it and compile it on my testing environnment.
My question is : Do I have to "insert" these 3 source fmb forms into production in order to make my compiled fmx executable ??
Indeed, the only way to insert a form into database is to have the developper 6i database tables in the database, but in production I think it does not matter, do you ?

Romeo Georgievski.You only need the referenced objects when
- changing the form in the Builder
- generating/compiling the form
When generating/compiling Forms Builder or Forms Compiler are resolving the references against the objects stored in the database.
They are now part of the runtime form (fmx file).
Note:
Storing objects into the database is desupported/depricated after Forms 6i (6.0.8). -
i created a form using acrobat XI pro. SOME users of the form cannot save the form. what can i do from my side to 'correct' the issue?
Do you know what PDF viewer those users were using? Do you have any more details about what happens when they attempt to save?

Online php form (inserts) in pdf form and send via email
So first hello all.
There are 4 PDF Forms amd 4 php forms on a website.
The user should be able to fill out the php form, click on send and the inserts from the user should be stored in the pdf form and send to an email adress.
I know that there are 3rd party tools, the convert it to a image, draw the inserts and convert it back.
But i want to know, how to do it with acrobat itself.
Is there any way to put varaibles in the pdf where php can set (fill)
If this is impossible:
I have heard, that there is a server version from acrobat who can manage this.
The information about this is rarly like i dont understand how much the costs are.
First : price x (for the server software itself)
Second: price y (for every processed document)

IT Technik SchiedtYou cannot use Acrobat on a server in that manner. Acrobat is licensed for one user one system at a time.
You can create and FDF file with the form field data and use that data to fill-in a PDF. You needd to create a unique PDF that could be added to an email and then deleted. You could also accumulate the data in a database. -
Master details form: in the details form the List of values is not working
The master details have an upper form and a lower form OK
So, the List of values of values in the upper is working fine,
the lower form or the details form the list of values not working on it and the code is right, and mean not working like when you press on it its not showing any thing
also is work on a regular form like a tabular form .
so please help !!!
