3D solid warps on oddly on a Z rotation

I've browsed the internet looking for an answer to this peculier problem which is: Whenever I convert a flat solid layer to a 3D object and then try to rotate it on the Z axis, it begins to stretch the object on the X axis. When I return back for a full 180 degree turn, it returns to it's normal size and ratio.
I have found other people with this problem, but I haven't found a clear solution on how to fix it.
Help would be appreicated.
I'm using CS6 on Adobe Creative Cloud and I'm running on Windows Seven.
Thank you very much.

Theck the PIXEL ASPECT RATIO of your footage, comps, and any nested comps.  They all need to be square: a pixel aspect ratio of 1.

  • Possible to turn OFF "Rolling Shutter Ripple" correction in CS5.5 Warp Stabilizer?

    Is Rolling Shutter Ripple redcution on by default in CS5.5 Warp Stabilizer?  Can I turn it off?
    I am having some strange results trying to stabilize some night-time astro timelapse sequences I shot from a moving car.  There seems to be some warping and "zooming" of parts of my frame, regardless of which stabilization options I choose -- motion, no motion, scale-crop-rotate, subspace, etc.  I've tried every combination possible, including the various border options.  The only thing I can think of, at this point, is that the Rolling Shutter correction function might be struggling to deal with frames shot from a moving car at 4/10ths of a second at night.  Is there any way to turn off the rolling shutter compensation?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Jim.
    The source stitched 176 frames for my test are about 1gb. So trying to get to the bottom of it without someone having to dl them (and it will take a while to put them up). The 8 frame version shows the same effect happening, just exaggerated. But its a fair call to assume maybe it would not happen with enough information to work with.
    The original http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7070604/full_ae_1080.mov I had tried at the time using detailed analysis as well to see if it fixed the issue, and the results were very similar.
    I'd also found that using subspace warp instead of PSR (position, scale rotation), or even just P (position) seemed to generate some additional warping there in the output, and certainly for my footage did not result in making it better.
    However, I have re-run the full footage starting from frames not a movie using detail analysis and subspace warp since you running that over the originally processed 1080 footage seemed to do a pretty good job.
    The results are here : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7070604/full_ae_1080_warp.mov?dl=1
    You can see the warp is really messing it up, and the zooming is not fixed. Left hand side easiest place to see it.
    Note I've found putting ?dl=1 on any of the links actually downloads them for anyone having issues with it simply playing in their browser. The way I am visiually checking any of these for issues (as many are at 1fps) is to load them into quicktime, change it to View, loop. Then In quicktime 7 holding FFWD. In quicktime 10 hitting forward until it runs at 8x. Looping at 8x is where you can really see the issue.
    The files I had not broken out seperately that are in the source files upload were the results in after effects just using the 8 frames. Here they are seperately.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7070604/1080_rez_p.mov?dl=1
    Position only.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7070604/1080_rez_psr.mov?dl=1
    Position scale rotate.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7070604/1080_rez.mov?dl=1
    Unstablized.
    I presume even with subspace warp you get the same results or worse using these 8 frame files.
    If you ignore the extra warping/twisting in the new file, you have the same results as the original http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7070604/full_ae_1080.mov?dl=1
    played at 8x. The easiest place to see it is the mid left side where you can see it zooming in and out. The fact that it really only starts happening a 3rd the way through makes me think its simply not dealing with the changes in zoom, or the later pan changes in the source file. It wierd the photoshop processed version comes out fine though.
    I was really hoping it was a case of, "ah, I see why it can't deal with those 8 frames, it really needs a manual tracker/stablizer doing x,y,z" But of course I'd be even happier with a tweak to the automated warp stabilizer.
    If I do a 2nd run on the sample file http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7070604/full_ae_1080.mov I notice selecting P, or PSR does not fix it. Selecting Perspective or Subspace (which probably includes perspective) seems to go a long way and have a similar result.
    Leads me back to thinking selecting subspace on the original footage just warps it, selecting P or PSR fixes all but the zooming thing, and then reprocessing with perspective is tackling the persective in isolation which it could not effectively do before. I don't know if that is because you cannot select P&R without S scale. Or because AE's perspective adjustment cannot work effectively with images that have scale variences in them or ?
    I've now run the ouput from a frames start via P and PSR. Brought them back in and prosessed with subspace and P and PSR. Results seems to be no better. There is some special sauce here somewhere with the reprocessing. Maybe its the codec I am going out to in the middle, maybe its the aspect ratio, maybe its ???
    Might be time to u/l the full source files I guess.
    Thanks for sticking with me.

  • Top 15 Issues/Fixes Needed in the next Premiere Pro release/update (CS6.5 or CS7)

    I’m excited for what’s coming next in Premiere Pro CS6.5 or CS7 (whichever update is next). As a former FCP7 user myself, Premiere CS6 was a quick and necessary switch (especially after changing the main keyboard shortcuts back to what I was used to). I’ve since gone back to FCP7 on occasion for certain things and I can tell you that I’m so glad I’ve switched. For all the headaches and serious errors that I still get daily/weekly with Premiere Pro CS6, it’s still definitely a big step up. I'm encouraged by staff members like Mitch W. that have expressed confidence that many of these issues will be resolved in the next release. Here is my personal list of “Top 15 issues/fixes” needed in the current Premiere Pro CS6…
    (Adobe STAFF...feel free to print this out and hand it to the engineers responsible for making changes )
    1) The infamous multicam FLAW. Needing no introduction…when you are editing your video in the multicam window and you hit pause or stop Premiere has decided that’s a great time to make a cut on your timeline and also switch angles back to the original angle whether you like it or not. You cannot stop ever while editing multicam without Premiere making these unwanted cuts and angle changes. Awful. Multicam in PPro is otherwise pretty nice, but this issue is terribly counter-productive especially when you are editing longer complex multicam sequences. Imagine if every time you hit pause or stop in the regular timeline it made a cut there and switched clips. Ugh. You get my point.
    2) The audio meters/levels do not work while in the multicam window. A staff member in the forums (I think it was you) said this was a bug. Hope it will get fixed. The audio levels work in every other window and its essential to be able to keep an eye on the levels while editing multicam.
    3) Ticktime.cpp-207 error. Ugh. What a nightmare. I have confidence that it will be fixed soon. Mitch W. from the forums is my new hero for taking on this error. How to replicate it?…simply have 6 (or 7) or more clips with the warp stabilizer effect added on the same timeline as a nested multicam clip and you get this error upon reopening your project. The more warp stabilizers you use, the more times you’ll have to hit “continue” to get through the error before you can open your project or export it to AME. I deal with this every single day because all my projects use these two elements. Most of my projects I have to hit “continue” on the error message upwards of 350-450 times to open my projects. Gets old fast.
    4) Icon View order control. When you display all your clips in icon view instead of a list view (In the project window), there is no metadata to allow you to put the clips in order somehow (or at least maintain the order that you have in the list). There are roundabout workarounds, but c’mon.
    5) Warp Stabilizer fixes…it is an AMAZING tool (far, far, far better than smoothcam in FCP7) BUT…it has it’s issues. Since I use hundreds of times/week (no exaggeration) I know it’s functions/flaws really well. The issues with Warp Stabilizer:
    a) #3 above
    b) Toggle OFF the effect after it’s applied and then hit Analyze again and PPro crashes. (easy to avoid but annoying bug)
    c) If a clip is in the middle of stabilizing (not just analyzing…but the final step labeled “analyzing”) when Auto-save comes up…most of the time PPro freezes and crashes.
    d) The DEFAULT “method” (in the settings for Warp Stabilizer) should NOT be “Subspace Warp”…it should be “Position, Scale, Rotation”. Why? It’s FAAAAARRRR better and more efficient. 95 out of 100 times it causes MUCH less “wobble” in the final stabilized clips AND most importantly 95 out of 100 times it scales the video less. Way better method.
    6) The ability to open multiple projects simultaneously. As simple as FCP7 had it…or even better…as cool and efficient as FCPX does it would be nice.
    7) The ability to mark a clip and not just a point on a timeline (because if you move the clip, the marker doesn’t go with it). I know you can use “Clip Marker” but it's very limiting, can't be moved, can't add notes, can't advance to the next marker (as far as I know). Also a marker list like FCPX has would be nice so you can see your markers all in a list at a glance and adjust them as needed.
    8) Ability to select a clip in the Project window and find out where it’s used in the timeline. I LOVE how you can do the reverse and take a clip in the timeline and “Reveal in Project Window” but it would really help to go the other way around. Dealing with several hundred clips for every project I’ve missed this feature from time to time (FCPX handles this really well).
    9) Add a through-edit indicator in timeline and “re-join clips” option. If you cut a clip but keep both clips together it’s just one continuous clip. But I really hope Premiere adds the not only an indicator of some sort (like FCP7′s way of having two small red triangles facing each other on that cut) so you know it’s one continuous clip BUT ALSO the ability to right-click and “re-join” the two clips into one.
    10) When clip is double-clicked in timeline, CTI position in source viewer should match location in timeline. This one is pretty annoying and a fix would be incredibly helpful. The way it is now is very counter-productive. Definitely hope this gets fixed ASAP.
    11) Better border controls for images/videos. Can’t do much with images right now in PPro. At least allow to customize the color and size/strength of it’s borders and shadows.
    12) Better support for Mac/Apple's top end computers/GPU's. I'm still surprised that 2011 top of the line iMac cards (AMD 6970M) that have 2gb of ram are not supported. I’m sure/I hope 2012 iMac’s will be supported with their new Nvidia GPU’s…but I’ll hold out hope that the top iMac (up until 3 months ago) is supported at least at it’s full power. All around better Mac support would be great considering the wave of new users coming over from FCP.
    13) Opacity/Transparency issues with EXPORTED videos with Cross Dissolves, etc. For some odd reason videos exported from Premiere CS6 have issues with cross dissolves or minor transparency. I’ll try to explain…in the program window of PPro CS6 cross dissolves look fine. Also, if you take a clip and stack it on top of another clip and put the top clip at say 99% opacity instead of 100 it looks like it should in PPro. But, if you export the clips you’ll quickly see that there are issues. It’s almost like the exported videos dissolve from 5 to 95. They skip the subtle beginning (0-5%) and subtle end (95-100%) of any fade. A clip in PPro as described above that is on top of another but set at 99% will look more like 90-95% in the exported file ESPECIALLY if the two clips are contrasting (eg. top layer dark, bottom layer with bright elements). It’s like the opposit of ease-in/ease-out. I have to ease-in/ease-out of every dissolve to avoid this issue…and even then, it’s not THAT much of an “ease” as one would hope. Another user in a forum once posted a video that shows how abruptly exported videos end their transparency changes…see: THIS SAMPLE VIDEO  Perhaps this is a GPU/processing issue with AME vs. Premiere Pro but whatever it is, it should be fixed so videos you export look like the videos you edited!
    14) Better control in Creative Cloud over which devices are “activated/deactivated”  We have 3 computers and it would be nice if one could log in to their Creative Cloud account and see a list of which devices they have and just toggle on/off which one’s are activated/deactivated. This is especially helpful when you are mobile and forget to deactivate one of your two home/office devices so you’re stuck now until you get back to the home/office to deactivate it. This is not a Premiere thing, but just a general wish.
    15) Ability to sync multicam clips automatically using the audio. Plural eyes apparently does this well. Would be nice to have it built into Premiere like FCPX does. Select all the shots you want to sync, One button click, wait a few seconds, done.
    That’s my top 15. Everything else is awesome in my opinion for what I do 10 hours a day 6-7 days a week. I’ve included bug reports/feature requests for all of these at one point but if you are someone else reading this go to the following link and ask for these issues to be fixed: FEATURE REQUEST/BUG REPORT
    I wish Adobe did smaller updates more often. Because even if they were smaller updates, we’d at least know you are working on fixing some of these issues that have plagued this NLE for years. Holding off fixes for one or two big “updates” every year is tough to deal with in a world of the ever updating apps we live and play with daily on our phones. I realize Premiere is a much larger scale and far more professional than a phone app, but hopefully you get my point. Here’s to hoping the next release (NAB 2013?) resolves all my top 15 issues. Here’s to hoping that these issues will be resolved sooner than later so I can stop raising hell in various forums. I’m honestly ready to start praising and defending Premiere Pro instead of griping about it’s bugs and flaws. It’s a fantastic program “on the way” to being the best. I hope.

    Nice list, however it does seem a little bit like you may be hoping that Adobe provides the Final Cut 8 package that Apple never delivered on. Having edited primarily with P-Pro for the last decade, I hope Adobe focuses more on getting the next release to run as smooth as CS5x does, strangling and crucifying all the codec and playback bugs that arose in CS6. To me, it appeared that too many of the changes in CS6 were semantic or cosmetic, meant to give a FCP user more familiarity. Why change the name of an edit function from "overlay" to "overwrite" after 15 years? Because it enhances the product, or because that is what Apple called the function in FCP? If Adobe renames the Program Monitor to the "Canvas" with the next release, I think that I might be sick. There were nice additions to the Creative Suite as a whole, but I hope the next Premiere release reverses some missteps made in CS6, and focuses more on stability and enhanced functionality. I also really hope that they have an open ear towards criticism; Apple did not and their users ended up with FCP-X
    It saddens me that the fixes I want most in a future release were purposeful changes between CS5x and CS6x.
    1) Provide the options for transport controls in the source and program monitors. All of the users at my office hate that the jog and shuttle were removed in CS6. JKL was an option prior to CS6 and if we liked it we would have used it. I keep reading the justification that this change was meant to save space and streamline the UI. I can't express cordially how much this bothers me to look at the empty wasted space in my CS6 UI where the transport controls should be. The experiment has gone on long enough.
    2) Restore the 3 Way Color Corrector to its previous functionality. The 3 way color corrector has been effectively neutered in CS6. Where in CS5x and earlier releases one could separately target the input/output levels of Highlights, Midtones, and Shadows, CS6 has only a master input/output level control. Why is less control better? Is it a 3-Way Color Corrector or a 1-Way Color Corrector?
    3) Restore Clip and Timeline markers to their previous functionality. I don't even.... I can't. A user shouldn't have to do work arounds to create a modicum of functionality. This again was an attribute that wasn't broken in earlier releases.
    4) Simplify the the task of pasting media into a targeted track. As it is now, pasted items will always go to the lowest activated track instead of the targeted track.
    Lastly I would like the Adobe Premiere teams to consider what an amazing accomplishment Premiere CS5x was. Upon CS5's release, a good portion of competitor's workflows became obsolete. CS5.5 refined, stabilized, and expanded functionality.
    CS6 changed the UI around, moving or deleting buttons, changed keyboard shortcuts, and renamed functions. Oh, and added hoverscrub, you know...like FCPX. In exchanged there was loss of functionality, stability issues and broken codecs.
    I really hope the next release is more like CS5x and less like FCPX

  • Quite posibly the most unstable device I've ever had the misfortune to use.

    I'm in utter rage at the performance and stability of the iPhone 3G.
    My 8GB model constantly crashes, freezes, music stutters and I am experiencing REGULAR slowdown on the device.
    I gave up a perfectly functioning N95 after having a positive experience with the iPod touch and I finally wanted to have the touch experience with the 3G. How wrong was I to get this phone.
    To top this all off, I know someone who has the same 8GB iPhone 3G and he has told me that his one has never slowed down or crashed.
    After my above rant, is he lying or could I have a faulty device? The old 1.14 software on my iPod touch was rock solid with the odd crash in safari but i never did experience the laggyness as I am on the 3G.
    Am I experiencing the norm with these issues or is my friend correct that the iPhone 3G is as stable as he tells me?
    Thanks for reading,
    Chaz.

    You could have a faulty device. My daughter has the 3G iPhone and says she has no problems and loves it (she is also coming from an iPod Touch). I've had the original iPhone for a bit over a year and have had no problems -- even after upgrading to OS 2.0 on July 11.

  • Object Problems.

    Hi I'm trying to devolope this program that works with polygons. The following code simply makes a polygon with the user input number of sides and rotates it clockwise. But the problem i have is that now i want the even numbers of the user input to be rotated clockwise and the odd numbers of the user imput to be rotated anti Clockwise both at the same speed. Can someone please give me a hand. I'd be much appreciated. Thanks.
    import genesis.*;
    public class RotatingPolygon {
         Rotates a solid red regular polygon with the given
         number of edges about its centre.
         public static void main (String [] args) {
              PolyFigure.create();
              int edges = DialogBox.requestInt("Supply the number of edges:");
              PlanarPoint [] vertices = new PlanarPoint[edges];
              PlanarPoint centre = new PlanarPoint(195, 135);
              final double pi = Math.PI;
              double radius = 100;
              double angle = 0;
              while (true) {
                   for (int i=0; i<edges; i++)
                        vertices[i] = getVertex(centre, i*2*pi/edges + angle, radius);
                   PolyFigure.fill(vertices);
                   angle = angle + 0.01;
                   Delay.milliseconds(5);
         public static PlanarPoint getVertex (PlanarPoint c, double alpha, double r) {
              double x = c.getX()+r*Math.cos(alpha);
              double y = c.getY()+r*Math.sin(alpha);
              PlanarPoint v = new PlanarPoint(x, y);
              return v;

    Hey thanks for the reply. I guess what i really wanted was that when compiled and run, it opens a dialog box requesting the number of edges. A regular polygon with the given number of edges is then drawn but this time the even-numbered vertices (i.e. vertices 0, 2, 4, etc.) are rotated clockwise about the centre by 0.01 radians every 20 milliseconds, while the remaining odd-numbered vertices are rotated anti-clockwise at the same speed.
    I'm so stuck on this so if you can lend a hand it would be so much appreciated.
    Cheers.

  • Free Transform breaks Motion Tweens

    Sigh! Normally I try to solve problems myself... but Google isn't giving me anything about this so maybe I'm the only one in the world experiencing this particular issue.
    I've used Flash for making games for years now, and I got used to using the old motion tweens for making looping animations for characters. I made the leap from AS2 to AS3 a while ago, and felt like I should try to use these new motion tweens as well since I got CS5...
    I've found them completely unusable, however, due to a bizarre problem that happens when moving around objects using the Free Transform tool.
    For a single character, I'll have a MovieClip with several layers, each with a 'body part' MovieClip on it, then I add the new blue-type motion tweens to all of those layers. At the end of those tweens, I use F6 to (hopefully) duplicate the starting pose; it is meant to loop, after all. Then I'll go about half way between these two keyframes and move bits around to create the A->B->A sort of 'idle' or 'breathing' animation.
    The Free Transform seems dodgy though. If I select all the 'limbs' of a character at once and try to rotate them as a group, it works, but they each end up displaced a bit when I release the mouse; they get offset slightly or rotate a bit in seemingly random directions.
    For example, compare these two images (it's easiest if they're opened in separate tabs, I suppose): http://scraps.fighunter.com/sparkpupagh1.png and http://scraps.fighunter.com/sparkpupagh2.png
    The first one is after rotating it but before I released the mouse button, the second is what the pieces ended up like after I released the button. Most of the pieces ended up where they should be, but the head was offset slightly. This is a mild case; it's usually worse and affects all the pieces, and the slight offsets and rotations build up, too.
    This in itself wouldn't be too bad - though it's frustratingly inaccurate - but it gets much, much worse the more I work on a single animation.
    (Note: These strange changes don't happen if I rotate all the parts as a group if they're not also contained within new motion tweens...)
    Here's a screenshot showing a frame mid-way through an animation, with one of the parts selected: http://scraps.fighunter.com/meepagh1.png
    The Motion Editor is shown, though I don't use that directly.
    With that feather bit selected, I then rotated it a tiny, tiny amount, but didn't *move* it at all. When I released the mouse, it ended up snapping suddenly to here: http://scraps.fighunter.com/meepagh2.png
    That'd be frustrating in itself, but as you can see from the Motion Editor, it's also messed up most of the other frames in the animation, somehow. This becomes unbearable, as you can likely imagine!
    If I edit the graph in the Motion Editor directly to alter the Z value and cause a rotation, it works, without problems... but this is horribly inefficient and unintuitive and not a solution. I can't animate by tweaking numbers. It's like trying to draw a portrait using an Etch-A-Sketch!
    It seems to only be the Free Transform tool that creates this bizarre problem.
    This has been happening since I got CS5 maybe a year or two ago, though I haven't actually had to use the animation tools much until a few days ago so that's why I'm bringing it up now. I've restarted Flash, my computer, etc, etc, many times; I also got the trial version of CS6 today to see if THAT would fix it, but the exact same thing happens in that version too.
    I'm wondering whether it's my computer's fault in some way... I don't know enough about hardware and 'specs' and that sort of stuff to describe anything about it, but I'm using Windows Vista and the computer is fairly old and not exactly what I'd call reliable. I'm planning to get a new one soon, so it'd be nice if that fixed this problem... but frustrating if it doesn't.
    I'll link to the CS6-flavoured .fla that those screenshots are from: http://scraps.fighunter.com/Meep.fla
    I'd very much appreciate it if someone could test this to see if it's happening to only me! If I go to frame 146 (to choose one at random), and try to rotate the foot, slightly, using the Free Transform tool, it breaks in the way that I've described. (Oddly, the head feather rotates without issues on that frame...) If you were to try to do this same thing and it *doesn't* break, it might be a good sign that it's my computer's fault!
    If it *does* break though... then I'd very much appreciate any help I can get from someone who understands the new motion tweens better than I do!
    It'd be a shame to have to go back to Classic Tweens because of this...

  • Make large pdf starting from numbered pdf files

    Hello,
    I have a weekly job I do In acrobat Pro but would like to do without acrobat.
    1.
    I have a folder with pdf files numbered from 1 to ...
    For example 1.0041job1.pdf / 2.147job2.pdf / ...
    The number of pdf files changes every week depending several things.
    But always with number in front of filename.
    2.
    So I need a pdf (best quality or quality unchanged)
    with all pdf files in order...
    So the numbers of the original pdf files is the order I would like to have.
    So I get 1 pdf in order with all pages from the original pdf files.
    Acrobat first do it like this 1. 10. 11. 2. 3.
    I have to move always 10-19 to behind the 9. If you know what i mean.
    -----this would be great.
    But If possible I would like to add this rotation
    3 If pages are portrait just keep them portrait
    but landscape pages should get this
    all even landscape pages should rotate 90° clock wise
    and all odd landscape pages should rotate 90° counter clock wise
    Then this repetitive job would be so easy and fast to do.

    Hello Colin,
    I think you're having some Python script posted by Jacques Rioux in mind :

    It uses Python Bindings for Quartz 2D, which means you'd need to know both Python and Quartz 2D to write such script by yourself.
    Anyway, here's some documents I know of.

    P.S. When I have some free time, I might explore Quartz 2D APIs to write some simple command line tool to manipulate pdf file as you wish.
    But I'm too busy to do so in this month.

  • SmartLine class

    Hi,
    I am trying to make a SmartLine class that knows its color, location and size, but I am having some trouble. It supposed to be modeled after this SmartEllipse class but for SmartLine (doesn't have all the methods in it) it's giving errors in the setLocation method, saying it find symbol for "this.setLine(...)" Any help in making this class would be very helpful, here are the SmartEllipse and Smart Line classes. Thanks.
    * Chapter 7: SmartEllipse.java
    * Extends Java's Ellipse2D.Double class, adding the capabilities to
    * set color, rotation, location, and size, to move to a specified
    * location, and to display itself on a panel.
    public class SmartEllipse extends java.awt.geom.Ellipse2D.Double {
        private java.awt.Color _borderColor, _fillColor; // attributes
        private int _rotation;
        private final int STROKE_WIDTH = 2;
        public SmartEllipse(java.awt.Color aColor){
         _borderColor = aColor;
         _fillColor = aColor; // solid color to start
         _rotation = 0; // no rotation for now
        // methods not provided by Java
        public void setBorderColor (java.awt.Color aColor) {
         _borderColor = aColor;
        public void setFillColor (java.awt.Color aColor) {
         _fillColor = aColor;
        public void setRotation (int aRotation) {
         _rotation = aRotation;
        // more readable versions of methods provided by Java
        public void setLocation (double x, double y) {
         this.setFrame (x, y, this.getWidth(),
                     this.getHeight());
        public void setSize (int aWidth, int aHeight) {
         this.setFrame(this.getX(), this.getY(),
                    aWidth, aHeight);
        public void move (int aChangeInX, int aChangeInY) {
         this.setFrame((int)this.getX()+aChangeInX,
                    (int)this.getY()+aChangeInY,
                    this.getWidth(),
                    this.getHeight());
        public void fill (java.awt.Graphics2D aBetterBrush){
         java.awt.Color savedColor = aBetterBrush.getColor();
         aBetterBrush.setColor(_fillColor);
         aBetterBrush.fill(this); // paint a solid ellipse
         aBetterBrush.setColor(savedColor);
        public void draw (java.awt.Graphics2D aBrush) {
         java.awt.Color savedColor = aBrush.getColor();
         aBrush.setColor(_borderColor);
         java.awt.Stroke savedStroke = aBrush.getStroke();
         aBrush.setStroke(new java.awt.BasicStroke(STROKE_WIDTH));
         aBrush.draw(this);
         aBrush.setStroke(savedStroke);
         aBrush.setColor(savedColor);
    public class SmartLine extends java.awt.geom.Line2D.Double
       private java.awt.Color _borderColor;
       private final int STROKE_WIDTH = 2;
       private double X1, Y1, X2, Y2;
       public SmartLine (double X1, double Y1, double X2, double Y2, java.awt.Color aColor)
         _borderColor = aColor;
         X1 = 0;
         Y1 = 0;
         X2 = 0;
         Y2 = 0;
       public void setBorderColor (java.awt.Color aColor)
         _borderColor = aColor;
       public void setLocation (double X1, double X2, double Y1, double Y2)
         this.setLine (X1, X2, this.getP1(), this.getP2());
         this.setLine (Y1, Y2, this.getP1(), this.getP2());
    }

    Well I really can't guess what you are trying to do here...
    public void setLocation (double X1, double X2,
    double Y1, double Y2)
    this.setLine (X1, X2, this.getP1(), this.getP2());
    this.setLine (Y1, Y2, this.getP1(), this.getP2());
    But the Line2D.Double.setLine method takes four doubles, and you are providing two doubles (X and Y) and two Point2Ds (this.getP1/2).
    The compiler is unable to find a method with the signaturesetLine(double, double, Point2D, Point2D) and so not surprisingly it cannot compile the class.

  • Motion keyframes don't render in FCP

    I've keyframed a couple of different elements (text and solid) on their opacity (fade out) and rotate (out of frame) and they behave fine in Motion and also in FCP viewer and canvas before rendering.
    But after rendering in FC, neither parameter did anything, as if they weren't not active, so that the elements simply stay in place. Any ideas why this could happen? It seems to me that Motion is broken, or FCP is not getting the full story. What is the fix?
    thanks, Td

    Alan, that was a good test. Yes it did render out of Motion just fine. The keyframes do occur when they should.
    As I said, they occur in FCP, until I render. IOW if I check pre-render at the point in time when the solid should dissolve, it does. It's as if FCP is not receiving all of the template's info when it renders the clip.
    I'll just stick with your method for now and go back to After Effects after this little experiment. In my experience it seems like everything "Apple" is a cheap broken toy made in China using inferior ingredients. Booooo!

  • HP 2840 Carousel not moving

    Greets all I have a Colour Laserjet HP 2840 which over time went from printing oddly, to only printing in yellow. At the same time the carousel was making odd skidding noises when rotating, and I had trouble removing toner cartridges as the carousel had often rotated slightly too far. After searching these fine forums I discovered the issue was likely the solenoid arm needed to be cleaned of adhesive gunk, and then covered with PVC tape. So with the service manual in hand, I undertook the extensive dismantling and service on the solenoid arm. During the repair I made two mistakes - the first was that I removed the rotator motor which was unnecessary. When reinstalling it, it seems to me it did not engage fully with the plastic gears - it seemed to sit 1 mm or so above them, despite the screws which fit the motor to the chassis being aligned correctly. The second was that before reinstalling the formatting cage, I accidentally plugged a 2-pin blue wires into a socket where the 2-pin yellow wires from the rotator motor was supposed to plug in. I did not plug in the yellow wires at all. This resulted in my machine clicking slightly (light flashing briefly on the NIC) then not turning on.  After performing the dismantling again and discovering the second error, I plugged the 2-pin yellow wires in the correct socket, and the 2-pin blue wires in the correct socket on the formatter. Lo and behold, my printer powered up correctly. However I now have a new problem. Now the carousel does not move at all, and displays 'incorrect yellow' on the LCD, even when no cartridges are in the machine. There is no sound of the carousel even making an effort to turn. I suspect the gap I observed between the rotator motor and the plastic gears is the cause, and wonder if I was supposed to align this in some fashion - is there a process for this? Another suspicion I have is that plugging the 2-pin blue wire (which normally plugs into the formatter) into the circuit board behind the formatter (where the yellow wire usually plugs in) has caused damage to that circuit board, and possibly my printer is unrepairable. Although I am not receiving any sort of error code on the LCD, which I would have expected from damaged electronics. I also had two screws left over after putting the printer back together (they were more like thick bolts), and wondered if missing these could cause the issue. Can anyone advise if there is a special way to deal with the rotator motor I may have overlooked when re-installing it, or some way to test if the motor is still turning?

    Hi @jrcjrc ,
    I understand that you are having issues with the carousel not turning to change out the toners. You tried the document with the information to press on the locking mechanism on the right side and it isn't working. I would really like to be able to help you resolve this issue.
    I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
    Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
    Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
    This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
    You can manually move the carousel, by releasing the locking mechanism. Use something to push it down. Manually move the carousel backwards, don't touch the toner though. I have provided also a picture of where there are actually two areas to do this from, they are circled in red. The one on the left side is easier to move them.
    I will send you another step to try in a private message.

  • Solid line of pixels in my warped gradient. Can anyone explain/help?

    Hello all,
    So this is very odd. Here's the breakdown and steps I've taken so far.
    I create a new layer and fill it with black. Then I make a new layer and make a marquee selection. Within the marquee selection, I fill the new layer with a color to transparent gradient fill. I then take the new gradient layer and warp it using the "FLAG" preset. I adjust the bend to 20% and commit the warp/transformation. I get the curve I want, but right in the middle of the curve, running straight up the layer, is a solid line of pixels. It's almost as if, that one little line missed out on both the gradient itself as well as the warp effect.
    Very odd indeed. Can anyone please explain what might be happening with that?
    Much appreciated.
    v/r
    Jake McCarthy

    Gerbert2001, I had tested in CS6 as the OP had not mentioned their version and could not reproduce the issue.
    But in Photoshop CC I also get offending results.
    parascopelv, you may want to post a bug report on the issue over at
    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/
    or see if one already exists.

  • An odd by-product of PP3 Time Warp FX

    I was playing around with the Time Warp effect on a clip in a timeline and it wants to play the first 15 frames backward which just happens to be the length of the cross-dissolve. If I move the clip to another video track in the same location in the timeline and create the dissolve using the clip's opacity it works fine.
    I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or this is just the way it works.
    System is:
    Dual core Athlon 3.0 MHz
    3GB memory
    MS Vista
    All sw and hw updates are installed, including PP3

    You're welcome. It's always a good thing to know the basics before moving on to the advanced stuff. Let us know how things go.
    Happy editing.

  • Win 8.1 - solid HDD light on a W530 when the optical drive is closed

    Hello,
    I have a new W530 with Windows 8.1 on and a short time after boot or resume from standby, the HDD light will illuminate solidly (not flickering at all) with no disk activity to speak of showing in task manager.
    I have tried the usual steps of disabling superfetch, search indexing, av, etc. and nothing helps.  The only thing that does influence the light is whether the optical drive is closed or not.  With the drive open, the light behaves normally and reflects the peaks of activity shown in task manager.  The light going solid coincides with Windows turning off the Optical drive after start up when Zero Power ODD is enabled (the light still goes solid after a few seconds with Zero Power ODD disabled so may be related to some energy saving mode?).
    This behaivour is not exhibited in Windows 8, Ubuntu 14.04, FreeDOS or the Bios so does seem to be an oddity of 8.1 on the W530.  There appears to be no impact on performance of the system so it is more of an annoyance.
    I am wondering if anyone else has come across this and/or has any suggestions as I don't fancy siutting with my optical drive open all the time...
    Relevant specs are below:
    Intel i7-3740QM
    8GB RAM
    250GB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD (OS drive & boot drive, hardware/eDrive encrypted with Bitlocker)
    500GB Hitachi Travelstar 7200RPM HDD
    Nvidia Quadro K1000M 2GB (running in Optimus with Intel HD Graphics)
    The laptop is configured with a static 1GB page file on the SSD and a static 36GB page file on the HDD.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Ok, a bit of progress... For some reason, The SATA controller had been set to Compatability in the Bios rather than AHCI. Doing a fresh build with AHCI enabled did not exhibit the solid light when the Lenovo Settings Dependency Package was installed
    Restoring my system image and then going through the process of enabling AHCI after a windows 8.1 install has solved the issue.
    So, lesson learned - AHCI is needed in this config unless a solid HDD light is wanted. Obviously this is a bug, what is the best way to report it to Lenovo officially?
