4 iphone users each with own itunes acct

we have 4 iphone users in the house.  4 authorized computers. (though we only have 3 computers in the home-the other authorized pc is dead) seems to be that to get my music that I d/l on the mac to itunes I need to erase and sync my phone as it's associated with another itunes library.  so I purchased some songs on the imac and can't get them to my iphone.  same deal with my husbands phone.  Problem is back in the day he synched his phone with another computer.  we purchased a new imac and he synched with the imac.  he wants to get all of his previous stuff from itunes(books and such) but it also says his iphone is associated with another itunes library and you need to erase and sync and it will be replaced with the current itunes library.  (same situation for me) if we do that, we lose a ton of stuff(music , books, apps, etc...) what's the best way to approach this??  we really don't want to erase and sync-and the other computer that he first synched to-is no longer working, it's dead.  So would he have to erase and start over and repurchase things he purchased 3 years ago??  Very frustrating.

Home Sharing might solve your problems, take a look at this article: iTunes: Understanding Home Sharing
You can also share your library over the network if you have different accounts, see this article iTunes: How to share music and video

  • We have 1 ipod 5, 2 iphone 4s, one computer. Each have own iTunes acct. How can I sync/or download each one to it's own music? I can't plug in one iPhone because it says it's syncing to my acct.

I need help trying to download music to three different devices. iPod5, 2iPhone 4s, one of which is the main name on account. However when I go to plug one of the 4s' in the computer, it starts to sync to my own "named" device, my itunes acct.(needless to say, I don't have any music on the one iphone.) How can I prevent syncing my daughters' ipod, iPhone to my name. They have their own accounts/emails, but  we have one computer. Can someone walk me through having each of our own syncing and downloading of songs/cd's?   Also, I assume you can only have one iTunes account on one computer, is that correct?

Well not exactly. We've had the same computer for a long time. It started with two ipod 3's. We tried to add a third ipod3 and for some reason were not successful.  (it never recognized one of these ipods). Okay, since then we've had an ipod4gen, ( I think I have generations right, not that it matters) anyway, I see in my itunes, that there are three "list" names. However, we now have new devices, an ipod5th gen, and two iphone4s.  We don't sync them hardly ever, just plug them into wall for charging.  Okay, my daughter(w/ iphone4s) wants music downloaded on hers, and yes as you have already read, when I plug it in it says it's syncing to my iphone. I don't want to mess hers up. So you are saying try to log out of my acct. and log in using her password? I get that part. However at this time I don't have her phone to try this. But like I said, I believe I tried doing that and it still said syncing to my account. So I "pulled the plug".  We need three different accounts so they/we can plug in with no hassle from eachothers accounts. This may be a simple fix, but I am not "computer savvy" with this stuff.LOL!  Thank you for your help, I truly appreciate your input on this matter!:) (I'll have to try this on hers later today, as far as logging in and out of corrrect itunes accts.).

  • HT4913 1 computer, 2 users each with own apple IDs - iCloud problems with iTunes

We've both paid for iCloud/iTunes Match with our respective IDs, but only one of us can actually use the service at a time on our shared computer, and then the other is locked out for 90 days.  When I login the the machine with my login, my iTunes is linked to my apple ID, but I can't use iTunes Match anymore because my husband authorized the computer to his Apple ID/iTunes Match account.
Is there a way around this so my husband and I can each use iTunes match, since we both paid for a year of service?  Anyone know how I can get Apple to just cancel my service for the remainder of the service period and refund this amount since I can't actually use the service?

I spent nearly 2 hours on the phone with 3 Apple representatives trying to figure out how my husband and I could both use our new computer (MacBook Pro) to manage both of our iTunes accounts.  Like you, we both have separate apple ids / accounts.  I began by establishing my Match account, and it worked wonderfully!  I then tried to do the same for my husband's account.  This is what I found out: according to Apple reps., Match can only be used by one apple account user on the one computer.  This seems CRAZY to me!  My husband and I do not both need our own computers; he rarely uses a home computer.  I understand that Apple is trying to prevent the stealing of music, but we are not stealing anything.  I simply want my husband to be able to enjoy the benefits of Match.  This forum suggests using "Home Sharing," but it seems to me from what I've read, "Home Sharing" only works with the same Apple id as well, so that doesn't help me any either.  It has been a time consuming and frustrating situation.  Any suggestions from anyone???

  • I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, but my husband has his own itunes acct, how can he use the main itunes library and get out music on his phone also

I have 2 iphones in the family and want to use itunes match on both devices, unfortunately my husband has his own itunes acct and when i change on his phone to my itunes acct it states that the email is already in use, any help on how to get the itunes match to go onto both devices, thanks

    "Method Three
Create a separate iTunes library for each device. Note:It is important that you make a new iTunes Library file. Do not justmake a copy of your existing iTunes Library file. If iTunes is open, quit it.
This one may work. I searched and searched on the website for something like this, I guess I just didn't search correctly, lol. I will give this a try later. My daughter is not be back for a few weekends, therefore I will have to try the Method 3 when she comes back for the weekend again. "
I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. She wants to sync her iPod and also backup her iPod at both places. Both PCs have been authorised. Thanks

  • HT1206 Can I have in one iphone 5 music from more than one itunes accounts?  My daughter and I have our music in the same pc. She and I have iTunes accounts. I have not been able to load in my ophone with my itunes acct music that she purchased in her acc

iTunes Match is not sharable across Apple IDs. The best way to get the music on her iPad is to leave hers signed into her Apple ID on the iTunes Store and sync via USB.

Let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi (or AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi) to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, can you get a normal iTunes install to go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • My wife and I each have an iphone 4, how can we each get own itunes

my wife and I each have an iphone 4 and one itunes account.  our calendars and address books have merged on both phones.   how can we each get own itunes accoung

Hi, you may have to manually remove calendar events and contacts that are irrelevent to each of you. To create an Apple ID account please click here. After doing this you can simply navigate to the App Store and go to the "Featured" category. From there scroll to the bottom and you can then tap on the account name and then press "Sign Out" for the iPhone that you wish to switch accounts for.

I have three users each with PC/Mac and iPods, how do I overcome the '5 user limit'? If I create a new acct, will it blow out the library on the iPod?
    thx

You don't.  5 is the limit of COMPUTERS that can be authorized to a single itunes account.  Ipods/iphones/ipad/Apple Tvs do NOT count toward the 5.

  • Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?

Why ON EARTH would I want to do this??  Come on Apple, copy protection aside, this is the stupidest prompt in the history of prompts.
The basic problem (if you Google it) that many many many many legitimate purchaser's of music are running into is this prompt.  And here is why:
    1.  We have an iPhone with a bunch of purchased songs on it and was at one point working with another iTunes library.
    2.  For whatever reason our computer crashes, the computer is gone/sold, not available, dead, pick your poison, it happens.
    3.  We setup a new computer and install iTunes and get a prompt to "Authorize" this computer (apparently we get 5 authorizations total).
    4.  We try to get all the songs from our iPhone back into iTunes and click the Sync button and ...
    5.  We get the following:
The iPhone "Your iPhone's name" is synced with another iTunes library.  Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time.  Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
Really?  This is what I have to do, wipe out all my purchased songs so that iTunes and sync with a new library?  At what point did Apple think this idea was even remotely in the best interest of their customers?  Seriously?
So now I'm stuck with an iPhone with songs on it, a computer with songs on it, but neither able transfer songs ... Happy Happy Joy Joy.  This is NUTS!?  Why punish people that you can verify they've purchased their songs with this bizarre scheme ... and further more, what if some of my songs on my iPhone were brought in from a valid CD purchase?
So my only way out of this craziness, is to use a 3rd party app that will hack the transfer for me?  This is good how?  I'm sorry, but at what point did Apple's $40 Billion (yes Billion) profit for 2012 instigated this sort of treatment to valid paying customers?
So ... here I am, anyone have a solution to this using "valid" means (without losing all my music) or is 3rd party hacks my only option?

    tt2,
So if I understand you correctly ... I can't move or sync content that was imported via my own CD's that is now on my iPhone back over to my computer?
Not with iTunes as your only tool, no.
The ONLY way I can proceed is with an iPhone backup and then restore that iPhone backup to my computer rather than my iPhone?  I assume this will trigger yet another "used activation"?
No you need a third party tool that will copy your other non-iTunes purchased media and photos not in the cameral roll across to your computer. (Some are listed, you can search the web for others).
When you have recovered all the media you want you can then backup the iPhone to the computer (this backup ONLY includes application data and settings, and the cameral roll. After you have backed up this data to the computer you can then immediately restore the recently made backup to the iPhone. The data in the backup will obviously be copied back but all media must have been added to the library or it will be removed from the device.
Your lost computer will count as an "activation" as will the new one. Apple devices don't add to the count. You can reset all your activations (including those you can't physically access) every 12 months should the need arise.
Am I the only one that thinks this is the most crazy and bizarre process of simply moving a music file from one of my devices to another of my devices?  Especially ones that were imported from CDs.
You still have the CDs? You can import them again. You sold, gave away, threw away the originals? Technically you no longer have the right to listen to the tracks you ripped. Is it inconvenient? Sure. One might argue that the very reason Apple & iTunes were able to drive the move to digital music to start with is that their system was designed to prevent the casual use of their devices as a means for "the kids" to simply "gift" their music libraries to each other without the tediously time-wasting efforts that the previous generation had to go through with home-taping. This no doubt helped get the content owners on board. Of course memory sticks and portable hard drives now make it trivially easy to copy content from one computer to another and indeed to simply backup your own content against a disaster but most people don't do either. Likewise they don't read instructions or terms and conditions until they are inconvenienced, and then complain. You and I might both wish iTunes made it easier, but it doesn't. And this isn't the place to complain about it. Use iTunes Feedback. You want help, it has been offered. Please read and inwardly digest it all properly this time. It does explain what you need to do to recover your data and safeguard it for the future.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
That's simply not possible I'm afraid. You'd need to give them their own account and allowance or make it so you are required to be there to input the password when they wish to make a purchase.

I can use the Remote app on my iphone to connect with my itunes library on my computer, but I can't connect to the Apple TV using home sharing with another computer in the house.  I am using the same ID and password that the apple tv uses to connect with the other computer.  Also how do I check what version of IOS that my iphone is using?

    Version:
iOS Settings>General About (or it'll say when you hook it up to iTunes)
Are all the devices on the same physical network?  I think you're saying all are set up using the same home sharing credentials.
If you've not done so restart all devices and your router.
If you can get any of the devices connected by ethernet to reduce the wifi burden that may help but to be honest I would not expect simply beoing on wifi to prevent devices/computers appearing in the list.
Does the other computer have any firewall or port blocking software running?

  • HT204088 How how can I synch my ipod + iphone music to my new computer? I get the same error  "my ipod or iphone is synched with another itunes library. An Ipod can be synched with only one itunes library at a time. What would I like to do Erase and Synch

How can I synch my ipod & iphone music (purchased from itunes on my old laptop) to my new laptop? I keep getting the same message on my itunes on my new laptop: " The ipod/Iphone is synched with another itunes library. An ipod/iphone can be synched with only one itunes library at a time. What would you like to do - Erase and Synch or Transfer Purchases?" What do I do?
    A couple of other items:
    1) I am guessing Apple does not keep a history of all my music purchases? As I did not have my entire library backed-up anywhere, and relying on the music I have on my ipod and my iphone as my only source of itunes music....I have lost over 500 songs!!!
    2) I used to have an Apple account under another account name, and since have switched to a new account name. Is there anyway to find the history of purchases from my old Apple account name and transfer these over to my new account name and onto my new laptop?
I hope someone can help, I am having a very difficult time trying to obtain answers. Angie

The iphone/ipod is NOT a storage/backup device.  Not maintaining a backup copy is a big mistake.
You can transfer itunes purchases from your iphone/ipod to your computer:
Authorize your computer for all accounts and then click  File>Transfer Purchases
