4TB Seagate Disk as a Local Storage Repo for OVM 3.2.4

I have a 4TB Seagate Disk Added to an Oracle VM Server running OVM 3.2.4
/dev/mapper/35000000000000001
                     3907017728 495547392 3411470336  13% /OVS/Repositories/0004fb0000030000196e5043753adcca
It is around 4GB in size. I can import the VM templates into the disk but then when booting up the VM, there is a kernel panic and it says the file system is corrupted or something.
The same VM template works on another repository. What could be causing this issue ?

  • How to use the local storage space in OVM 3.2.1

    Hi
We have installed OVM 3.2.1 in a server , which has 1TB HDD and 350GB RAM and we have installed the OVM manager in a seperate machine.
I am able to identified the server in the manager console but how can i use the local storage space.
Kindly help us to solve this issue.
    Regards
    Niranjan

    Hi,
if you want to import an ISO image, why you mount it?
    after you complete your installation.
1- discover server. (if your installation is finished good, then you found your server in Onglet Servers and VMs / unassigned servers)
2- Go to Perspective / Physical Disk to verify that detect the second partition
3- if it's good, then crearte a pool with no Clustered Server Pool.
4- create a repository on your physical disk.
5- Go to ISOs in your repository and click import iso image.
Now, verify that your apache/httpd server it is working or not.
    1- after you install apache/httpd
2- you shoud verify if it is running or not (pgrep httpd) if not start it (e.g. service httpd start )
3- copy the ISO file under /var/www/html
4- open your browser and verify.
and at this point i think it is good.
then copy the url to import the iso file with Oracle VM Manager
    the URL Look's like http://IP-Address/image-iso.iso
you should verify that the IP-Address is reached from the Oracle VM Server.
    and that's it
I tested it: and in my case:
i have copied the windows iso image:
    cp ../windowsXP.iso /var/www/html/
and now my URL is like * http://IP-Address/windowsXP.iso*
I hope this can help you
    Best Regards

  • The new Yosemite Photos app local storage usage question

    Hi,
Did anyone check the local storage usage for the new Photos on Yosemite?
How much space does it take for all the lores photos locally if the originals are stored in iCloud.
Lets say if 100GB of RAW files are migrated from Aperture in to Photos to cloud. This should be 100GB in the cloud and how much on OS X?
Can a RAW file still be downloaded from cloud later or are they transformed to jpgs once uploaded?
What if there is not enough storage for all lores photos on iOS or OS X representing all the original iCloud photos?
    I'm really puzzled about this.
    Thanks

I just installed the Yosemite upgrade with Photos.  I don't use Aperture of the iCloud, but the iPhotos library migrated with about the same disk space, but it is doubled, because the old iPhoto library is still on disk.

  • Adobe Indesign local.storage html

    Hi all
I'm developing a new extension with Extension Builder 3 for Indesign CC 2014
Does anyone knows were phisically is placed the html5 "local storage" file for Indesign CC 2014 extension, and wich can be it's name?
Is there someting that can delete the local storage outside the extension or Indesign? For example, with Google Chrome in "clear history" it's possible to clear the local storage of the visited website.
I need to use local storage for saving some settings without using external xml or txt file, and these settings must not be deleted.
    Thanks
    Best Regards

    Thank's for the answer.
I don't mean cookies but : HTML5 Web Storage. Do someone knows were they are stored? For example, in Windows, Google Chrome save that in %LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Local Storage. And wich other mean can delete local storage?
So, you suggest to use local .txt or .xml file in common directory paths on the S.O.?
    Thanks again
    Regards

  • Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Using 4TB hard disk

Hi, I have a HP X1600 G2, then I bought 12 x 4TB hard disk for increasing the disk space for this unit.
What I want to do is using the hardware array to configure the following:
    3 x 4TB RAID-5 plus 1 Spare to create 3 Logical Drives.
Then Spanned set it to a total of 24TB drive within the system.
Is it going to be work, or not?
    As I read the article
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc773268(v=ws.10).aspx
Said to use 2TB drive to be able to get a 64TB in total.
    Thanks in advance, Fortuno

    Thanks Shaon,
Yes, after I setup on the RAID controller, with GPT on the hard disk, I am able to create the spanned set for 24TB on the Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 that comes with the unit.
    Thanks again!

  • FC disk not available after storage repository creation failure

    Hi,
A storage repo creation job failed because of some network problems. After I fixed up the network problem, I can create another storage repo with another FC disk. When I try creating the failed storage repo again, the FC disk is no longer available for selection. Could the FC disk be left in a "half cooked" state? How can I clear the state and make it available again?
The log of the failed job seems to suggest rollback was completed.

Deleting the LUN sounds like a good clean way but unfortunately it did not work. After I recreated the LUN from the storage array, OVM is left with a "phantom" LUN which I cannot delete. Secondly I now get a OCFS2 lock which I don't know how to clear.
    Please help.

  • Local storage not available

    Hello,
I am trying to create a non-clustered server pool with a single VM server 3.1.1, using Manager also at 3.1.1.
So far I've created a Server Pool and added the discovered server to this pool.
The next step would be to create a repository on this server by going to Repositories tab, add a repository and click the "physical disk" radio button. At this point I am able to select the desired Server Pool.
However, I don't see any available disks to choose as the repository - only blank combo boxes:
    http://d.pr/i/4eYY
    http://d.pr/i/T0G3
This looks to me like a wrong window, since the label is for a san server and not a physical disk array or something along those lines.
The internal server disks are arranged in a raid configuration and a single partition.
I can't figure out what I'm missing. Please advise.

    >
What make/model is your hardware, also what RAID controller?
HP DL380/5's have known issues because Oracle uses an unsupported driver.
    >
    Its a proliant ml150 g6 server, with a P410i Smart Array Controller.
The controller is the same as mentioned in note 1373817.1, which is probably what you are looking at as well. I've experimented with that solution with no positive results yet.
    >
To see local storage to the VM the disk must be empty. You can not make one large partition on your raid array and use that same partition for your VM installation... and then expect to see the free space available to be used for a repo.
Check out page 49 of the user guide
As long as no partition and data are present the device will be detected as a raw disk. The choice is yours
to use the local disks either to provision logical storage volumes as disks for virtual machines or to install a
storage repository. If you place a storage repository on the local disk, an OCFS2 file system is installed.
You will have to break up your RAID volume into multiple LUNS. You should then be able to see the unused LUNS. I've personally never done this but I do have some SSD drives I use for extending database cache. I can see these drives just fine locally. The key is there can't be a file system on the disks. Oracle VM expects a raw device.
    >
Oh, I shouldn't have said a single partition, as far as partitions go, it's the default layout: /, /boot, swap and free space (it's a single drive as far as RAID goes). Can that work?
Thanks for that info, I might have to reconfigure the RAID as you suggest, I wasn't aware that it must be a raw device, that brings much valued insight :-) Although I should have expected this since VM 2.1 probably works in a similar way, I just never used the VM Manager and didn't study repos.py closely.

  • Multiple local storage repositories in a standalone Oracle VM Server

Hi, I have a server with two disk volumes created: RAID1(/dev/sdb3) and RAID10(/dev/sda1)
In the RAID1 volume was installed the Oracle VM Server 2.2.1.
The rest of the RAID1 volume is available in the /OVS storage repository structure.
Then I setting up a second storage repository using the space of the RAID10 volume.
    Steps:
    # mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda1
    # /opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py --new /dev/sda1
    # /opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py -i
    # /opt/ovs-agent-2.3/utils/repos.py -l
    [   ] 25bfdcda-bad1-4836-ad72-d6204e56befb => /dev/sda1 -- RAID 10
    [ * ] b8ea3f06-10f4-4ea3-8fd9-0295ac6d46b4 => /dev/sdb3 -- RAID 1
Finally I setup the fstab file to mount the RAID10 volume in boot-time in the /raid10 directory
    Reboot the server
In the /raid10 directory I see the same directories names than the RAID1(/OVS) volume.
    Are these steps correct?
When a new virtual machine is created with the Oracle VM Manager, how can I select the storage repository for this machine?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    yes this is correct.
Internally the ovs-agent will use the /var/ovs/mount/<ID> folders (you can check that with df -k) and not the /OVS directly.
You do not have a chance in the current version to choose the repository. The ovs-agent will simply take the repository where there is the most free space.
However after creating the VMs, you always (if shutdown) can simply move the contents of the folders (e.g. running_pool/name) to the other pool, and ovs-agent will automatically find the corresponding images (and update the configuration), when you start the VM.
    Regards
    Sebastian

  • Query about local storage

    Hi,
i had a query about local storage.
I've a machine that hosts weblogic and tangosol. i've an ejb that accesses a distributed cache i.e NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.get("MyCache")
i modified tangosol-coherence.xml and set local-storage to false ( for distributed cache) and replaced the file in coherence.jar.
i'm using an overflow scheme and the back map uses a disk scheme.
i also start a separate standalone instance of tangosol and i set the system property of local storage to true for the standalone instance.
i start the standalone instance first and then weblogic.
The idea is ensure that the tangosol instance in weblogic or the weblogic JVM should not participate in storing data (hence local storage false).
only the JVM for the standalone instance should store data (hence local storage true -system property).
i wanted to know whether the property "local-storage" is pertinent to a member(machine) or to a JVM?
the reason for this doubt: as i'm using a disk scheme, tangosol creates a file for an overflow (e.g lh014402~.tp). i can see two such files when ideally i would have wanted only one for the tangosol instance.
         -rw-r--r-- 1 zephyr users 8364032 2005-06-23 17:02 lh014402~.tp
         -rw-r--r-- 1 zephyr users 8364032 2005-06-23 17:02 lh014403~.tp.
can you please let me know if we can configure tangosol in such a way that we can two separate instances running with local stroage false for one and true for the other?
         Awaiting your reply
         Thanks
         Vinay

I would suggest leaving the default 'local-storage' value set to 'true' in the tangosol-coherence.xml and just use the JVM argument to control the local storage of each individual node. Then start the stand alone instance normally (I assume you are using the com.tangosol.net.DefaultCacheServer) and start the WebLogic instance with the following:
         java [...] -Dtangosol.coherence.distributed.localstorage=false [...]
         Hope this helps.
         Later,
         Rob Misek
         Tangosol, Inc.

  • Oracle vm 3.1.x : does not recognize local storage

    Hi There
My VM manager does not recognize the local storage however I have a second HDD on my VM server:
    [root@myserver ~]# fdisk -l
    Disk /dev/sda: 320.0 GB, 320072933376 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sda1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
    /dev/sda2 14 405 3148740 83 Linux
    /dev/sda3 406 536 1052257+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
    Disk /dev/sdb: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    Also the Multipath is running:
    [root@myserver ~]# service multipathd status
    multipathd (pid 2735) is running...
    [root@myserver ~]#
The version of OVM is 3.1.1.305
I have used the default partition layout.
I was able to create a server pool without the cluster option but there is no storage bind to it since I could not utilize the local storage and my NFS (which is on a IOMEGA DATA CENTRE external HDD) for some reasons gets timed out while I am adding the server pool with NFS ( NFS was added to the storage no problem but once I try to add a pool on this NFS it gets timesd out)
I am new to OVM and also Linux so please go easy on me :) , Your help is much appriciated.

Very likely "multipath -ll" doesn't show up any path to sdb from the device mapper (neither it is in /dev/mapper)
    - Make sure you've rescanned disks from OVM Manager (Select the ovm server disks page) ;
    - try to perform "multipath -d" to see if it takes the path from sdb into account. If it is, run "multipath" no option
    - try to reboot the OVM server since it's not too late ;-)
Other than that I'm afraid you'll have to figure out why device mapper doesn't map your disk; the ovm server should have "script" install on it. Do the following :
    cd /root
    script figureoutwhyitsucks.log
    multipathd -k
    show config
    <ctrl>+D
    exit
That file would be helpful to figure out.

  • Live migration of VM from CSV storage - local storage

I have a VM I want to migrate from our CSV storage onto local storage. However, I can't find a way to complete this.
Live migration won't give me the local disks as an acceptable destination.
During this live migration even if I say that I don't want it to be highly available, the next part to the wizard doesn't give me any options whatsoever to move it anywhere.
I've tried moving it via the Hyper-V manager - which then directs me to the Failover Cluster Manager. Even there I can't give it a suitable destination on the local disk to stick the machine.
What am I missing in this?
Is there a way to do this without manually copying the VHDs to that location and creating a new VM?

As an additional option, you can use one time backup/restore procedure, using whatever free backup tool you want to.
We have done something similar with VeeamZIP that in many ways resembles simple zip-utility for VMs.
We had backed up given VM firstly, and, then, during restoration procedure selected local disks as the datastore the VM should be restored to; worked like a charm.
    Kind regards, Leonardo.

  • Local storage problem

I am running out of local storage , I deleted  a lot of photos   Notes  games apps  etc.. Yet I still cannot download a game I had , which was on the iPad but I deleted it ro refresh it . It also looks as if my available storage is going down the more I delete.

How much space is Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
    http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.

  • Where Is Local Storage In Windows 8??

So i Have Revel App On My Windows 8 PC,
it stopped syncing because ive apparenly ran out of local storage space,
but i dont know where this folder is??? its not im my pictures
also is there a way via win 8 to stop it syncing to local and only sync to the cloud

Are you out of space on the computer or out of uploads in Revel? Revel does not save full sized copies of the photos on each device, but rather saves them in the cloud to avoid filling up your device. For this reason I am skeptical that Revel is the issue if your PC hard drive is full.  Is it possible you have many programs, music ,documents,  photos or videos that have filled up the disk?
Are you getting an error message from Revel? Are you a premium user? If not, you may have reached your upload limit of 50 uploads per month on a free account.

  • Setting Storage Classification on Local Storage (e.g. local SSDs.)

Hi all, I'm integrating SCVMM 2012 SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V with XenDesktop 7. When defining storage resources in XenDesktop, it can see the 'Local Storage' classification from SCVMM and use that for VM placement.
What this does though, is treat all local disks that have been marked by SCVMM as 'Available for Placement' as that Local Storage. (i.e. in the SCVMM console, view the properties of a Hyper-V host, select 'Available for placement' on specified volumes under
Hardware and then under Storage view the Storage Classifications on each physical drive.
Instead, I'd like to be able to treat each physical direct attached drive as a separate location for XenDesktop VM placement. To that end, I've been looking at setting a different storage classification for each physical drive I'm targeting. I assume this
is the right approach as XenDesktop looks to query SCVMM for the storage classifications to define VM placement.
When attempting to change a storage classification on a physical drive in the host properties in SCVMM, I receive the following error:
    Virtual Machine Manager
VMM is unable to process one of the provided parameters for the cmdlet (Set-SCStorageDisk):
Cannot convert 'System.Object[]' to the type 'Microsoft.SystemCenter.VirtualMachineManager.StorageDisk' required by parameter 'StorageDisk'. Specified method is not supported.
Try the operation again. If the issue persists, contact Microsoft Help and Support.

    OK
Directly running the PowerShell code returns the same error (as you would expect).
    $vmHost = Get-SCVMHost -ID "31ddbd43-b14f-42a1-9326-710b45eec45d"
    $storageClassification = Get-SCStorageClassification -Name "Local Drive D" -ID "a818fcbb-3346-49c4-837b-df2be834f7f7"
    $hostDisk = Get-SCStorageDisk -VMHost $vmHost -Name "\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE0"
    Set-SCStorageDisk -StorageDisk $hostDisk -StorageClassification $storageClassification -JobGroup "40edcf09-239e-496e-8dce-84b5eec02bb3" -Verbose
    Set-SCVMHost -VMHost $vmHost -JobGroup "40edcf09-239e-496e-8dce-84b5eec02bb3" -RunAsynchronously -VMPaths "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V|D:\" -BaseDiskPaths ""
Interestingly, if I change $hostDisk to $hostDisk[0], the Set-SCStorageDisk line runs and produces no error, but this does not actually achieve the desired effect.
Can anyone offer some thoughts or reasons why I would be seeing this? Or am I going about this the wrong way (and thus failing).

  • Increasing Local Storage options

    Hello,
We have several B440 blades that have 2x72gb drives in a raid-10/mirror array for local storage.  We would like to increase them to 146gb drives.  I have been unable to locate any documentation / support that shows what would be the best path to do this.  ie - in our HP servers, you can swap 1 drive, let the array rebuild, swap the other drive, let the array rebuild and then the array config utilites allow you to utilize the additional space.
We have the new drives and I have a spare blade to play on, so I'm happy to take ideas if no one is quite sure how to perform this.
    Thank you!

Though that procedure might work, you likely wont find any documentation from HP, Cisco or LSI on it - as it's not a supported method to increase array capacity.
If this is a lab system you're welcome to test this, but you do so at your own risk.  I wouldn't recommend this on a production system.
The Cisco version of the LSI MegaRAID User guide can be found here:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/3rd-party/lsi/mrsas/userguide/LSI_MR_SAS_SW_UG.pdf
This will at least explain how to increase a logical volume's capacity  (to take advanrage of the extra space) once the smaller disks have been  swapped for larger ones and re-sync'd.
    Regards,
    Robert
